Nonlinear Dynamic Modeling of a Tether-net System for Space Debris Capture

In this paper, a flexible tether-net system is applied to capture the space debris and a numerical framework is established to explore its nonlinear dynamic behaviors, which comprises four principal phases: folding, spreading, contacting, and closing. Based on the discretization of the whole structure into multiple nodes and connected edges, elastic force vectors and associated Jacobian matrix are derived analytically to solve a series of equations of motion. With a fully implicit method applied to analyze the nonlinear dynamics of a slender rod network, the involved mechanical responses are investigated numerically accounting for the interactions. Contact between the deformable net and a rigid body is handled implicitly through a cost-effective modified mass algorithm while the catenary theory is utilized to guide the folding process (from planar configuration to origami-like pattern). The dragging and spreading actions for the folded hexagon net could be realized by shooting six corner mass toward a specific direction; next, the six corners would be controlled to move along a prescribed path producing a closing gesture, when touch between the flying net and the target body is detected, so that for the space debris could be captured and removed successfully. We think the established discrete model could provide a novel insight in the design of active debris removal (ADR) techniques, and promote further development of the model-based control of tether tugging systems.

Building a Virtual HPC Cluster with Auto Scaling by the Docker

Solving the software dependency issue under the HPC environment has always been a difficult task for both computing system administrators and application scientists. This work would like to tackle the issue by introducing the modern container technology, the Docker, to be specific. By integrating the auto-scaling feature of service discovery with the light-weight virtualization tool, the Docker, the construction of a virtual cluster on top of physical cluster hardware is attempted. Thus, through the isolation of computing environment, a remedy of software dependency of HPC environment is possible.

General realization of N=4 supersymmetric quantum mechanics and its applications

Based upon the general supercharges which involve not only generators C_j of the Clifford algebra C(4,0) with positive metric, but also operators of third order, C_j C_k C_l, the general form of N=4 supersymmetric quantum mechanics (SSQM), which brings out the richer structures, is realized. Then from them, an one-dimensional physical realization and a new multi-dimensional physical realization of N=4 SSQM are respectively obtained by solving the constraint conditions. As applications, N=4 dynamical superconformal symmetries, which possess both the N=4 supersymmetries and the usual dynamical conformal symmetries, are studied in detail by considering two simple superpotentials k/x and ωx, and their corresponding superalgebraic structures, which are spanned by eight fermionic generators and six bosonic generators, are established as well.
