Building a great multi-lingual teacher with sparsely-gated mixture of experts for speech recognition

The sparsely-gated Mixture of Experts (MoE) can magnify a network capacity with a little computational complexity. In this work, we investigate how multi-lingual Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) networks can be scaled up with a simple routing algorithm in order to achieve better accuracy. More specifically, we apply the sparsely-gated MoE technique to two types of networks: Sequence-to-Sequence Transformer (S2S-T) and Transformer Transducer (T-T). We demonstrate through a set of ASR experiments on multiple language data that the MoE networks can reduce the relative word error rates by 16.3% and 4.6% with the S2S-T and T-T, respectively. Moreover, we thoroughly investigate the effect of the MoE on the T-T architecture in various conditions: streaming mode, non-streaming mode, the use of language ID and the label decoder with the MoE.

To reach neutron-rich heavy and superheavy nuclei by multinucleon transfer reactions with radioactive isotopes

The dynamical mechanism of multinucleon transfer (MNT) reactions has been investigated within the dinuclear system (DNS) model, in which the sequential nucleon transfer is described by solving a set of microscopically derived master equations. Production cross sections, total kinetic energy spectra, angular distribution of formed fragments in the reactions of $^{124,132}$Sn+ $^{238}$U/$^{248}$Cm near Coulomb barrier energies are thoroughly analyzed. It is found that the total kinetic energies of primary fragments are dissipated from the relative motion energy and rotational energy of the two colliding nuclei. The fragments are formed in the forward angle domain. The energy dependence of the angular spectra is different between projectile-like and target-like fragments. Isospin equilibrium is governed under the potential energy surface. The production cross sections of neutron-rich isotopes are enhanced around the shell closure.

Constraints on neutron skin thickness in 208Pb and density-dependent symmetry energy

Accurate knowledge about the neutron skin thickness $ΔR_{np}$ in $^{208}$Pb has far-reaching implications for different communities of nuclear physics and astrophysics. Yet, the novel Lead Radius Experiment (PREX) did not yield stringent constraint on the $ΔR_{np}$ recently. We employ a more practicable strategy currently to probe the neutron skin thickness of $^{208}$Pb based on a high linear correlation between the $ΔR_{np}$ and $J-a_{\text{sym}}$, where $J$ and $a_{\text{sym}}$ are the symmetry energy (coefficient) of nuclear matter at saturation density and of $^{208}$Pb. An accurate $J-a_{\text{sym}}$ thus places a strong constraint on the $ΔR_{np}$. Compared with the parity-violating asymmetry $A_{\text{PV}}$ in the PREX, the reliably experimental information on the $J-a_{\text{sym}}$ is much more easily available attributed to a wealth of measured data on nuclear masses and on decay energies. The density dependence of the symmetry energy is also well constrained with the $J-a_{\text{sym}}$. Finally, with a `tomoscan' method, we find that one just needs to measure the nucleon densities in $^{208}$Pb starting from $R_{m} = 7.61\pm0.04$ fm to obtain the $ΔR_{np}$ in hadron scattering experiments, regardless of its interior profile that is hampered by the strong absorption.

Effect of Delta potential on the pion-/pion+ ratio in heavy-ion collisions at intermediate energies

Based on the isospin-dependent Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck(IBUU) transport model, effects of $Δ$ resonance potential on the free n/p and $π^-/π^+$ ratios in the central collision of $^{197}Au+^{197}Au$ at beam energies of 200 and 400 MeV/A are studied. It is found that the effect of $Δ$ potential on the ratio of pre-equilibrium free $n/p$ is invisible. The effect of $Δ$ isovector potential on the kinetic energy integrating ratio of $π^-/π^+$ may be observable only at lower incident beam energies and with stiffer symmetry energy. The strength of the $Δ$ isoscalar potential affects the height of the $π^-/π^+$ ratio around the Coulomb peak but does not affect the kinetic energy integrating ratio of $π^-/π^+$. In heavy-ion collisions at intermediate energies, relating to the question of non-conservation of energy on $Δ$ or $π$ productions, one can replace the $Δ$ potential by nucleon isoscalar potential especially a soft symmetry energy is employed.

Effects of pion potential and nuclear symmetry energy on the $π^{-}/π^{+}$ ratio in heavy-ion collisions at beam energies around the pion production threshold

Within the framework of the isospin-dependent Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck(IBUU) transport model, we studied the effects of the pion potential and the symmetry energy on the pion production in the central $^{197}Au+^{197}Au$ collisions around the pion production threshold. It is found that the pion potential has opposite effects on the value of $π^-/π^+$ ratio at low and high pion energies. The effect of the pion potential on the total $π^-/π^+$ ratio becomes larger in heavy-ion collisions at beam energies below the pion production threshold. And at beam energies below the pion production threshold, with the pion potential, the effect of the symmetry energy on the $π^-/π^+$ ratio becomes smaller compared with that above the pion production threshold.

FFLO state with angle dependent Gap in Asymmetric Nuclear Matter

We consider the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) state with an angle dependent-gap (ADG) for the arbitrary angle θ_0 between the direction of the Cooper pair momentum and the symmetry axis of the ADG in asymmetric nuclear matter. We find two kinds of locally stable states, i.e., the FFLO-ADG-orthogonal and FFLO-ADG-parallel states, which correspond to θ_0=π/2 and θ_0=0, respectively. Furthermore, the-FFLO-ADG-orthogonal state is located at small asymmetry, whereas the FFLO-ADG-parallel state is favored for large asymmetry. The critical isospin asymmetry α_c, where the superfluid vanishes, is enhanced largely by considering the Cooper pair momentum with an ADG.

Symmetry energy at subsaturation densities and the neutron skin thickness of 208Pb

The mass-dependent symmetry energy coefficients $a_{sym}(A)$ has been extracted by analysing the heavy nuclear mass differences reducing the uncertainties as far as possible in our previous work. Taking advantage of the obtained symmetry energy coefficient $a_{sym}(A)$ and the density profiles obtained by switching off the Coulomb interaction in $^{208}\text{Pb}$, we calculated the slope parameter $L_{0.11}$ of the symmetry energy at the density of $0.11\text{fm}^{-3}$. The calculated $L_{0.11}$ ranges from 40.5 MeV to 60.3 MeV. The slope parameter $L_{0.11}$ of the symmetry energy at the density of $0.11\text{fm}^{-3}$ is also calculated directly with Skyrme interactions for nuclear matter and is found to have a fine linear relation with the neutron skin thickness of $^{208}\text{Pb}$, which is the difference of the neutron and proton rms radii of the nucleus. With the linear relation the neutron skin thickness $ ΔR_{np} $ of $^{208}\text{Pb}$ is predicted to be 0.15 - 0.21 fm.

Density-dependent symmetry energy at subsaturation densities from nuclear mass differences

We extract the mass-dependent symmetry energy coefficients $a_{\text{sym}}({A})$ with the nuclear mass differences reducing the uncertainties as far as possible. The estimated $a_{\text{sym}}({A})$ of $^{208}\text{Pb}$ is $22.4\pm 0.3 $ MeV, which is further used to analyze the density-dependent nuclear matter symmetry energy at subsaturation densities. The slope parameter of the symmetry energy at the saturation density $ρ_{0}$ is $L=50.0\pm15.5$ MeV. Furthermore, it is found that, at the density of $ρ=0.69ρ_{0}=0.11$fm$^{-3}$, the symmetry energy $S(ρ=0.11\text{fm}^{-3})=25.98\pm0.01$ MeV and the correspondingly slope parameter is $L=49.6\pm6.2$ MeV, which are consistent with other independent analysis.

Effect of tensor force on density dependence of symmetry energy within the BHF Framework

The effect of tensor force on the density dependence of nuclear symmetry energy has been investigated within the framework of the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approach. It is shown that the tensor force manifests its effect via the tensor $^3SD_1$ channel. The density dependence of symmetry energy $E_{sym}$ turns out to be determined essentially by the tensor force from the $π$ meson and $ρ$ meson exchanges via the $^3SD_1$ coupled channel. Increasing the strength of the tensor component due to the $ρ$-meson exchange tends to enhance the repulsion of the equation of state of symmetric nuclear matter and leads to reduction of symmetry energy. The present results confirm the dominant role played by the tensor force in determining nuclear symmetry energy and its density dependence within the microscopic BHF framework.

Effects of nuclear symmetry energy and in-medium NN cross section in heavy-ion collisions at beam energies below the pion production threshold

Based on the isospin-dependent Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck(IBUU04) transport model, we explored effects of in-medium $NN$ elastic scattering cross section and nuclear symmetry energy on the sub-threshold pion production in $^{132}Sn+^{124}Sn$ reaction. We find that with decrease of incident beam energy, effects of in-medium $NN$ elastic scattering cross section on the $π^{-}/π^{+}$ ratio are larger than that of the symmetry energy although the latter may be also larger. While keeping the effect of symmetry energy, the double ratio of $π^{-}/π^{+}$ from neutron-rich and neutron-poor reaction systems (with the same mass number of system) $^{132}Sn+^{124}Sn$ and $^{128}Pm+^{128}Pm$ almost fully cancels out the effects of in-medium $NN$ elastic scattering cross section.

Normal or abnormal isospin-fractionation as a qualitative probe of nuclear symmetry energy at supradensities

Within two different frameworks of isospin-dependent transport model, effect of nuclear symmetry energy at supradensities on the isospin-fractionation (IsoF) was investigated. With positive/negative symmetry potential at supradensities (i.e., values of symmetry energy increase/decrease with density above saturation density), for energetic nucleons, the value of neutron to proton ratio of free nucleons is larger/smaller than that of bound nucleon fragments. Compared with extensively studied quantitative observables of nuclear symmetry energy, the normal or abnormal isospin-fractionation of energetic nucleons can be a qualitative probe of nuclear symmetry energy at supradensities.

Three-body force effect on the properties of nuclear matter under the gap and continuous choices within the BHF approach

We have calculated and compared the three-body force effects on the properties of nuclear matter under the gap and continuous choices for the self-consistent auxiliary potential within the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approach by adopting the Argonne $V18$ and the Bonn B two-body potentials plus a microscopic three-body force (TBF). The TBF provides a strong repulsive effect on the equation of state of nuclear matter at high densities for both the gap and continuous choices. The saturation point turns out to be much closer to the empirical value when the continuous choice is adopted. In addition, the dependence of the calculated symmetry energy upon the choice of the self-consistent auxiliary potential is discussed.

Angle-dependent Gap state in Asymmetric Nuclear Matter

We propose an axisymmetric angle-dependent gap (ADG) state with the broken rotational symmetry in isospin-asymmetric nuclear matter. In this state, the deformed Fermi spheres of neutrons and protons increase the pairing probabilities along the axis of symmetry breaking near the average Fermi surface. We find that the state possesses lower free energy and larger gap value than the angle-averaged gap state at large isospin asymmetries. These properties are mainly caused by the coupling of different m_{j} components of the pairing gap. Furthermore, we find the transition from the ADG state to the normal state is of second order and the ADG state vanishes at the critical isospin asymmetry m_{j} where the angle-averaged gap vanishes.

Decomposition of EOS of Asymmetric Nuclear Matter into Different Spin-isospin Channels

We investigate the equation of state of asymmetric nuclear matter and its isospin dependence in various spin-isospin $ST$ channels within the framework of the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approach extended to include a microscopic three-body force (TBF). It is shown that the potential energy per nucleon in the isospin-singlet T=0 channel is mainly determined by the contribution from the tensor SD coupled channel. At high densities, the TBF effect on the isospin-triplet T=1 channel contribution turns out to be much larger than that on the T=0 channel contribution. At low densities around and below the normal nuclear matter density, the isospin dependence is found to come essentially from the isospin-singlet SD channel and the isospin-triplet T=1 component is almost independent of isospin-asymmetry. As the density increases, the T=1 channel contribution becomes sensitive to the isospin-asymmetry and at high enough densities its isospin-dependence may even become more pronounced than that of the T=0 contribution. The present results may provide some microscopic constraints for improving effective nucleon-nucleon interactions in nuclear medium and for constructing new functionals of effective nucleon-nucleon interaction based on microscopic many-body theories.

Effect of tensor correlations on the depletion of nuclear Fermi sea within the extended BHF approach

We have investigated the effect of tensor correlations on the depletion of nuclear Fermi sea in symmetric nuclear matter within the framework of the extended Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approach by adopting the AV18 two-body interaction and a microscopic three-body force. The contributions from various partial wave channels including the isospin-singlet T=0 channel, the isospin-triplet T=1 channel and the T=0 tensor 3SD1 channel have been calculated. The T=0 neutron-proton correlations play a dominated role in causing the depletion of nuclear Fermi sea. The T=0 correlation-induced depletion turns out to stem almost completely from the $^3SD_1$ tensor channel. The isospin-singlet T=0 3SD1 tensor correlations is shown to response for most of the depletion, which amounts to more than 70 percent out of the total depletion in the density region considered. The TBF turns out to leads to an enhancement of the depletion at high densities well above the empirical saturation density and its effect increases as a function of density.

Magnetization of neutron star matter

The magnetization of neutron star matter in magnetic fields is studied by employing the FSUGold interaction. It is found that the magnetic susceptibilities of the charged particles (proton, electron and muon) can be larger than that of neutron. The effects of the anomalous magnetic moments (AMM) of each component on the magnetic susceptibility are examined in detail. It is found that the proton and electron AMM affect their respective magnetic susceptibility evidently in strong magnetic fields. In addition, they are the protons instead of the electrons that contribute most significantly to the magnetization of the neutron star matter in a relative weak magnetic field, and the induced magnetic field due to the magnetization can be appear to be very large. Finally, the effect of the density-dependent symmetry energy on the magnetization is discussed.

Model dependence of isospin sensitive observables at high densities

Within two different frameworks of isospin-dependent transport model, i.e., Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (IBUU04) and Ultrarelativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics (UrQMD) transport models, sensitive probes of nuclear symmetry energy are simulated and compared. It is shown that neutron to proton ratio of free nucleons, pi-/pi+ ratio as well as isospin-sensitive transverse and elliptic flows given by the two transport models with their "best settings", all have obvious differences. Discrepancy of numerical value of isospin-sensitive n/p ratio of free nucleon from the two models mainly originates from different symmetry potentials used and discrepancies of numerical value of charged pi-/pi+ ratio and isospin-sensitive flows mainly originate from different isospin-dependent nucleon-nucleon cross sections. These demonstrations call for more detailed studies on the model inputs (i.e., the density- and momentum-dependent symmetry potential and the isospin-dependent nucleon-nucleon cross section in medium) of isospin-dependent transport model used. The studies of model dependence of isospin sensitive observables can help nuclear physicists to pin down the density dependence of nuclear symmetry energy through comparison between experiments and theoretical simulations scientifically.

Single particle potentials of asymmetric nuclear matter in different spin-isospin channels

We investigate the neutron and proton single particle (s.p.) potentials of asymmetric nuclear matter and their isospin dependence in various spin-isospin $ST$ channels within the framework of the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approach. It is shown that in symmetric nuclear matter, the s.p. potentials in both the isospin-singlet T=0 channel and isospin-triplet T=1 channel are essentially attractive, and the magnitudes in the two different channels are roughly the same. In neutron-rich nuclear matter, the isospin-splitting of the proton and neutron s.p. potentials turns out to be mainly determined by the isospin-singlet T=0 channel contribution which becomes more attractive for proton and more repulsive for neutron at higher asymmetries.

The influence of the symmetry energy on the cone-azimuthal emission

In the framework of the isospin-dependent Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck transport model, effects of the symmetry energy on the evolutions of free n/p ratio and charged pion ratio in the semi-central collision of $^{197}$Au+$^{197}$Au at an incident beam energy of 400 MeV/nucleon are studied. At the beginning of the reaction (before 11 fm/c) they are both affected by the low-density behavior of the symmetry energy but soon after are affected by the high-density behavior of the symmetry energy after nuclei are compressed (after 11 fm/c) and the effects of the symmetry energy are generally smaller compared with the central collision case. Interestingly, their dependences on the symmetry energy are shown to arise with increase of cone-azimuthal angle of the emitted particles. In the direction perpendicular to the reaction plane, the $π^{-}/π^{+}$ ratio or free n/p ratio especially at high kinetic energies exhibits significant sensitivity to the symmetry energy.

Three-body force effect on neutrino emissivities of neutron stars within the framework of the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approach

The three-body force (TBF) effect on the neutrino emissivity in neutron star matter and the total neutrino emissivity of neutron stars have been investigated within the framework of the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approach by adopting the AV18 two-body interaction plus a microscopic TBF. The neutrino emissivity from the direct Urca process turns out to be much larger than that from the modified Urca process. Inclusion of the TBF reduces strongly the density thresholds of the direct Urca processes involving electrons and muons. The TBF effect on the total neutrino emissivity of neutron stars is shown to be negligibly weak for neutron stars with small masses. For neutron stars with large masses, the TBF effect becomes visible and inclusion of the TBF may enhance the total neutrino emissivity by about 50% for neutron stars with a given mass of $M=1.6M_{\odot}$.

Three-body force effect on nucleon momentum distributions in asymmetric nuclear matter within the framework of the extended BHF approach

We have investigated the three-body force (TBF) effect on the neutron and proton momentum distributions in asymmetric nuclear matter within the framework of the extended Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approach by adopting the $AV18$ two-body interaction plus a microscopic TBF. In asymmetric nuclear matter, it is shown that the neutron and proton momentum distributions become different from their common distribution in symmetric nuclear matter. The predicted depletion of the proton hole states increases while the neutron one decreases as a function of isospin-asymmetry. The TBF effect on the neutron and proton momentum distributions turns out to be negligibly weak at low densities around and below the normal nuclear density. The TBF effect is found to become sizable only at high densities well above the saturation density, and inclusion of the TBF leads to an overall enhancement of the depletion of the neutron and proton Fermi seas.

Three-body force effect on off-shell mass operator and spectral functions in nuclear matter

Within the framework of the Brueckner theory, the off-shell behaviors of the mass operator $M(k,ω)=V(k,ω)+iW(k,ω)$, i.e., its dependence upon the momentum $k$ and upon the nucleon frequency $ω$, are investigated by including nuclear three-body force (TBF). The first two terms of the hole-line expansion of the mass operator are taken into account. The TBF effects on their off-shell properties are discussed. A comparison is made between the on-shell and off-shell values of $M_{1}$. The nucleon spectral function and nucleon momentum distribution are also calculated, and the calculation shows that they are hardly affected by the TBF effect at the saturation density. At a high density two times greater than the saturation density, inclusion of the TBF may lead to a visible effect on the spectral function and may enhance the depletion of the hole states.

Dense nuclear matter and symmetry energy in strong magnetic fields

The properties of nuclear matter in the presence of a strong magnetic field, including the density-dependent symmetry energy, the chemical composition and spin polarizations, are investigated in the framework of the relativistic mean field models FSU-Gold. The anomalous magnetic moments (AMM) of the particles and the nonlinear isoscalar-isovector coupling are included. It is found that the parabolic isospin-dependence of the energy per nucleon of asymmetric nuclear matter remains valid for values of the magnetic field below $10^{5}B_{c}^{e}$, $B_{c}^{e}=4.414\times10^{13}$G being the electron critical field. Accordingly, the symmetry energy can be obtained by the difference of the energy per nucleon in pure neutron matter and that in symmetric matter. The symmetry energy, which is enhanced by the presence of the magnetic field, significantly affects the chemical composition and the proton polarization. The effects of the AMM of each component on the energy per nucleon, symmetry energy, chemical composition and spin polarization are discussed in detail.

Density dependence of nuclear symmetry energy constrained by mean-field calculations

We establish a correlation for the symmetry energy at saturation density $S_{0}$, slope parameter $L$ and curvature parameter $K_{\text{sym}}$ based on widely different mean field interactions. With the help of this correlation and available empirical and theoretical information, the density dependent behavior around the saturation density is determined. We compare the results obtained with the present approach with those by other analyses. With this obtained density dependent behavior of the symmetry energy, the neutron skin thickness of $^{208}$Pb and some properties of neutron stars are investigated. In addition, it is found that the expression $S(ρ)=S_{0}(ρ/ρ_{0})^γ$ or $S(ρ)=12.5(ρ/ρ_{0}) ^{2/3}+C_{p}(ρ/ρ_{0}) ^γ$ does not reproduce the density dependence of the symmetry energy as predicted by the mean-field approach around nuclear saturation density.

Effects of Symmetry Energy in the Reaction 40Ca+124Sn at 140 MeV/nucleon

The density-dependent symmetry energy is a hot topic in nuclear physics. Many laboratories over the world are planning to perform related experiments to probe the symmetry energy. Based on the semiclassical Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (BUU) transport model, we study the effects of nuclear symmetry energy in the central reaction 40Ca+124Sn at 140MeV/nucleon in the laboratory system. It is found that the rapidity distribution of free nucleon's neutron-to-proton ratio is sensitive to the symmetry energy, especially at large rapidities. The free neutron-to-proton ratios at small or large rapidities may reflect high or low density behavior of nuclear symmetry energy. To probe the density dependence of nuclear symmetry energy, it is better to give the kinetic distribution and the rapidity distribution of emitted nucleons at the same time.

Effects of the magnetic field on the spallation reaction implemented by BUU coupled with a phase-space coalescence afterburner

Based on the Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (BUU) transport model coupled with a phase-space coalescence afterburner, spallation reaction of $p+^{197}Au$ at the incident beam energy of E$_{beam}$= 800 MeV/nucleon is studied. We find that the number of test particles per nucleon has minor effects on the neutron to proton ratio (n/p) of the produced heavier fragments while it affects much on their yields. The external strong magnetic field affects the production of heavier fragments much than the n/p of produced fragments. The n/p of free nucleons is greatly affected by the strong magnetic field, especially for the nucleons with lower energies.

Origin of symmetry energy in finite nuclei and density dependence of nuclear matter symmetry energy from measured alpha-decay energies

Based on the Skyrme energy density functional, the spatial distribution of the symmetry energy of a finite nucleus is derived in order to examine whether the symmetry energy of a finite nucleus originates from its interior or from its surface. It is found that the surface part of a heavy nucleus contributes dominantly to its symmetry energy compared to its inner part. The symmetry energy coefficient $a_{\text{sym}}({A})$ is then directly extracted and the ratio of the surface symmetry coefficient to the volume symmetry coefficient $κ$ is estimated. Meanwhile, with the help of experimental alpha decay energies, a macroscopic method is developed to determine the symmetry energy coefficient of heavy nuclei. The resultant $a_{\text{sym}}({A})$ is used to analyze the density dependence of the symmetry energy coefficient of nuclear matter around the saturation density, and furthermore, the neutron skin thickness of $^{208}\text{Pb}$ is deduced which is consistent with the pygmy dipole resonance analysis. In addition, it is shown that the ratio $κ$ obtained from the macroscopic method is in agreement with that from the Skyrme energy density functional. Thus the two completely different approaches may validate each other to achieve more compelling results.

Probing nuclear symmetry energy with the sub-threshold pion production

Within the framework of semiclassical Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (BUU) transport model, we investigated the effects of symmetry energy on the sub-threshold pion using the isospin MDI interaction with the stiff and soft symmetry energies in the central collision of $^{48}$Ca + $^{48}$Ca at the incident beam energies of 100, 150, 200, 250 and 300 MeV/nucleon, respectively. We find that the ratio of $π^{-}/π^{+}$ of sub-threshold charged pion production is greatly sensitive to the symmetry energy, particularly around 100 MeV/nucleon energies. Large sensitivity of sub-threshold charged pion production to nuclear symmetry energy may reduce uncertainties of probing nuclear symmetry energy via heavy-ion collision.

Three-body Force Effects on the Properties of Neutron-rich Nuclear Matter

We review our research work on the single-particle properties and the equation of state (EOS) of isospin asymmetric nuclear matter within the framework of the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (BHF) approach extended by including a microscopic three-body force (TBF). The TBF is shown to affect significantly the nuclear matter EOS and the density dependence of nuclear symmetry energy at high densities above the normal nuclear matter density, and it is necessary for reproducing the empirical saturation property of symmetric nuclear matter in a nonrelativistic microscopic framework. The TBF-induced rearrangement effect and the ground state (g.s.) correlation effect on the s.p. properties in neutron-rich nuclear matter are investigated. Both effects turn out to be crucial for predicting reliably the s.p. properties within the Brueckner framework. The TBF effect on nucleon superfluidity in neutron star matter and neutron stars has also been discussed.

A direct probe of the in-medium pn scattering cross section

Hard photon production from neutron-proton bremsstrahlung in intermediate energy heavy-ion reactions is examined as a probe of the in-medium pn scattering cross section within a transport model. Uncertainty of photon production probability pn-pngamma is cancelled out by using the ratio of hard photon spectra R_{12C+12C/p+n}(gamma) from two reactions. The in medium pn scattering cross section is constrained by using the ratio of hard photon production cross sections of proton-induced reactions p+12C and p+2H. A reduction factor sigma_pn^medium/sigma_pn^free of about 0.5 ~ 0.7 around saturation density is obtained by comparing with the existing experimental data.

Correlation between alpha-decay Energies of Superheavy Nuclei Involving Effect of Symmetry Energy

A formula for the relationship between the $α$-decay energies ($Q$ values) of superheavy nuclei (SHN) is presented, which is composed of the effects of Coulomb energy and symmetry energy. It can be employed not only to validate the experimental observations and measurements to a large extent, but also to predict the $Q$ values of heaviest SHN with a high accuracy generally which will be very useful for future experiments. Furthermore, the shell closures in superheavy region and the effect of the symmetry energy on the stability of SHN against $α$-decay are discussed with the help of this formula.

Initialization effect in heavy-ion collisions at intermediate energies

Based on the isospin-dependent Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck transport model plus the Skyrme force parameters, initialization effect is studied in heavy-ion collision at intermediate energies. We find that there are moderate initialization effects in the observables of free neutron to proton ratio (n/p), pion-/pion + ratio, as well as neutron to proton differential flow (F^x_n-p). Effects of initialization are larger for charged pion-/pion ratios than n/p ratios. And the effects of initialization are more evident in nuclear reactions at lower incident beam energies. We do not see large effects of initialization for light reaction systems or large asymmetric (neutron-richer) reaction systems. We also see relatively large effects of initialization on the neutron to proton differential flow at relatively lower incident beam energies or with large impact parameters. These results may be useful for the delicate studies of Equation of Sate (EoS) of asymmetric nuclear matter.

New approach for alpha decay half-lives of superheavy nuclei and applicability of WKB approximation

The alpha decay half-lives of recently synthesized superheavy nuclei (SHN) are calculated by applying a new approach which estimates them with the help of their neighbors based on some simple formulas. The estimated half-life values are in very good agreement with the experimental ones, indicating the reliability of the experimental observations and measurements to a large extent as well as the predictive power of our approach. The second part of this work is to test the applicability of the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) approximation for the quantum mechanical tunneling probability. We calculated the accurate barrier penetrability for alpha decay along with proton and cluster radioactivity by numerically solving Schrödinger equation. The calculated results are compared with those of the WKB method to find that WKB approximation works well for the three physically analogical decay modes.

Pion productions by proton and Helium-3 on Au197 target at beam energies of 2.8, 5, 10 and 16.587 GeV/nucleon

Based on a Relativistic Boltzmann-Uehling- Uhlenbeck transport model, proton and $^{3}$He induced reactions on $^{197}$Au target at beam energies of 2.8, 5, 10 and 16.587 GeV/nucleon are studied. It is found that compared with proton induced reactions, $^{3}$He induced reactions give larger cross sections of pion production, about 5 times those of the proton induced reactions. And more importantly, pion production from $^{3}$He induced reaction is more inclined to low-angle emission. Neutrino production via positively charged pion is also discussed accordingly.

Alpha-decay half-lives and Q_alpha values of superheavy nuclei

The alpha-decay half-lives of recently synthesized superheavy nuclei (SHN) are investigated based on a unified fission model (UFM) where a new method to calculate the assault frequency of alpha-emission is used. The excellent agreement with the experimental data indicates the UFM is a useful tool to investigate these alpha-decays. It is found that the half-lives become more and more insensitive to the Q_alpha values as the atomic number increases on the whole, which is favorable for us to predict the half-lives of SHN. In addition, a formula is suggested to compute the Q_alpha values for the nuclei with Z > 92 and N > 140 with a good accuracy, according to which the long-lived SHN should be neutron rich. With Q_alpha values from this formula as inputs, we predict the half-lives of isotopes of Z = 117, which may be useful for experimental identication in the future.

A Transport Model for Nuclear Reactions Induced by Radioactive Beams

Major ingredients of an isospin and momentum dependent transport model for nuclear reactions induced by radioactive beams are outlined. Within the IBUU04 version of this model we study several experimental probes of the equation of state of neutron-rich matter, especially the density dependence of the nuclear symmetry energy. Comparing with the recent experimental data from NSCL/MSU on isospin diffusion, we found a nuclear symmetry energy of $% E_{sym}(ρ)\approx 31.6(ρ/ρ_{0})^{1.05}$ at subnormal densities. Predictions on several observables sensitive to the density dependence of the symmetry energy at supranormal densities accessible at GSI and the planned Rare Isotope Accelerator (RIA) are also made.

Particle transfer and fusion cross-section for Super-heavy nuclei in dinuclear system

Within the dinuclear system (DNS) conception, instead of solving Fokker-Planck Equation (FPE) analytically, the Master equation is solved numerically to calculate the fusion probability of super-heavy nuclei, so that the harmonic oscillator approximation to the potential energy of the DNS is avoided. The relative motion concerning the energy, the angular momentum, and the fragment deformation relaxations is explicitly treated to couple with the diffusion process, so that the nucleon transition probabilities, which are derived microscopically, are time-dependent. Comparing with the analytical solution of FPE, our results preserve more dynamical effects. The calculated evaporation residue cross sections for one-neutron emission channel of Pb-based reactions are basically in agreement with the known experimental data within one order of magnitude.

Correlation Dynamics of Green's Functions

We generalize the methods used in the theory of correlation dynamics and establish a set of equations of motion for many-body correlation green's functions in the non-relativistic case. These non-linear and coupled equations of motion describe the dynamical evolution of correlation green's functions of different order and transparently show how many-body correlations are generated by the different interaction terms in a genuine nonperturbative framework. The nonperturbative results of the conventional green's function theory are included in the present formalism as two limiting cases (the so-called ladder diagram summation and ring diagram summation) as well as the familiar correlation dynamics of density-matrices in the equal time limit. We present explicit expressions for three- and four-body correlation functions that can be used to dynamically restore the trace relations for spin-symmetric fermi systems and study numerically the relative importance of two-, three- and four-body correlations for nuclear configurations close to the groundstate.
