3D hyperbolic Navier-Stokes equations in a thin strip: global well-posedness and hydrostatic limit in Gevrey space

We consider the hyperbolic version of three-dimensional anisotropic Naver-Stokes equations in a thin strip and its hydrostatic limit that is a hyperbolic Prandtl type equations. We prove the global-in-time existence and uniqueness for the two systems and the hydrostatic limit when the initial data belong to the Gevrey function space with index 2. The proof is based on a direct energy method by observing the damping effect in the systems.

Analytic smoothing effect of the spatially inhomogeneous Landau equations for hard potentials

We study the spatially inhomogeneous Landau equations with hard potential in the perturbation setting, and establish the analytic smoothing effect in both spatial and velocity variables for a class of low-regularity weak solutions. This shows the Landau equations behave essentially as the hypoelliptic Fokker-Planck operators. The spatial analyticity relies on a new time-average operator, and the proof is based on a straightforward energy estimate with a careful estimate on the derivatives with respect to the new time-average operator.

Global Well-posedness of a Prandtl Model from MHD in Gevrey Function Spaces

We consider a Prandtl model derived from MHD in the Prandtl-Hartmann regime that has a damping term due to the effect of the Hartmann boundary layer. A global-in-time well-posedness is obtained in the Gevrey function space with the optimal index $2$. The proof is based on a cancellation mechanism through some auxiliary functions from the study of the Prandtl equation and an observation about the structure of the loss of one order tangential derivatives through twice operations of the Prandtl operator

Well-posedness in Gevrey function space for 3D Prandtl equations without Structural Assumption

We establish the well-posedness in Gevrey function space with optimal class of regularity 2 for the three dimensional Prandtl system without any structural assumption. The proof combines in a novel way a new cancellation in the system with some of the old ideas to overcome the difficulty of the loss of derivatives in the system. This shows that the three dimensional instabilities in the system leading to ill-posedness are not worse than the two dimensional ones.

Well-posedness of the MHD boundary layer system in Gevrey function space without Structural Assumption

We establish the well-posedness of the MHD boundary layer system in Gevrey function space without any structural assumption. Compared to the classical Prandtl equation, the loss of tangential derivative comes from both the velocity and magnetic fields that are coupled with each other. By observing a new type of cancellation mechanism in the system for overcoming the loss derivative degeneracy, we show that the MHD boundary layer system is well-posed with Gevrey index up to $3/2$ in both two and three dimensional spaces.

Gevrey regularity with weight for incompressible Euler equation in the half plane

In this work we prove the weighted Gevrey regularity of solutions to the incompressible Euler equation with initial data decaying polynomially at infinity. This is motivated by the well-posedness problem of vertical boundary layer equation for fast rotating fluid. The method presented here is based on the basic weighted $L^2$- estimate, and the main difficulty arises from the estimate on the pressure term due to the appearance of weight function.

Regularity of traveling free surface water waves with vorticity

We prove real analyticity of all the streamlines, including the free surface, of a gravity- or capillary-gravity-driven steady flow of water over a flat bed, with a Hölder continuous vorticity function, provided that the propagating speed of the wave on the free surface exceeds the horizontal fluid velocity throughout the flow. Furthermore, if the vorticity possesses some Gevrey regularity of index $s$, then the stream function admits the same Gevrey regularity throughout the fluid domain; in particular if the Gevrey index $s$ equals to 1, then we obtain analyticity of the stream function. The regularity results hold for both periodic and solitary water waves.

Hypocoercivity for the linear Boltzmann equation with confining forces

This paper is concerned with the hypercoercivity property of solutions to the Cauchy problem on the linear Boltzmann equation with a confining potential force. We obtain the exponential time rate of solutions converging to the steady state under some conditions on both initial data and the potential function. Specifically, initial data is properly chosen such that the conservation laws of mass, total energy and possible partial angular momentums are satisfied for all nonnegative time, and a large class of potentials including some polynomials are allowed. The result also extends the case of parabolic forces considered in [4] to the non-parabolic general case here.

Global Hypoellipticity and Compactness of Resolvent for Fokker-Planck Operator

In this paper we study the Fokker-Planck operator with potential V(x), and analyze some kind of conditions imposed on the potential to ensure the validity of global hypoelliptic estimates. As a consequence, we obtain the compactness of resolvent of the Fokker-Planck operator if either the Witten Laplacian on 0-forms has a compact resolvent or some additional assumption on the behavior of the potential at infinity is fulfilled. This work improves the previous results of Hérau-Nier and Helffer-Nier, by obtaining a better global hypoelliptic estimate under weaker assumptions on the potential.
