Analytic Gelfand-Shilov smoothing effect of the spatially homogeneous Landau equation

In this work, we study the nonlinear spatially homogeneous Landau equation with hard potential in a close-to-equilibrium framework, we show that the solution to the Cauchy problem with $L^2$ initial datum enjoys a analytic Gelfand-Shilov regularizing effect in the class $S^1_1(\mathbb{R}^3)$, meaning that the solution of the Cauchy problem and its Fourier transformation are analytic for any positive time, the evolution of analytic radius is similar to the heat equation.

Analytic smoothing effect of the spatially inhomogeneous Landau equations for hard potentials

We study the spatially inhomogeneous Landau equations with hard potential in the perturbation setting, and establish the analytic smoothing effect in both spatial and velocity variables for a class of low-regularity weak solutions. This shows the Landau equations behave essentially as the hypoelliptic Fokker-Planck operators. The spatial analyticity relies on a new time-average operator, and the proof is based on a straightforward energy estimate with a careful estimate on the derivatives with respect to the new time-average operator.

Analytic smoothing effect of the time variable for the spatially homogeneous Landau equation

In this work, we study the Cauchy problem of the spatially homogeneous Landau equation with hard potentials in a close-to-quilibrium framework. We prove that the solution to the Cauchy problem enjoys the analytic regularizing effect of the time variable with an L2 initial datum for positive time. So that the smoothing effect of Cauchy problem for the spatially homogeneous Landau equation with hard potentials is exactly same as heat equation.

Gevrey regularity with weight for incompressible Euler equation in the half plane

In this work we prove the weighted Gevrey regularity of solutions to the incompressible Euler equation with initial data decaying polynomially at infinity. This is motivated by the well-posedness problem of vertical boundary layer equation for fast rotating fluid. The method presented here is based on the basic weighted $L^2$- estimate, and the main difficulty arises from the estimate on the pressure term due to the appearance of weight function.

Long time well-posdness of the Prandtl equations in Sobolev space

In this paper, we study the long time well-posedness for the nonlinear Prandtl boundary layer equation on the half plane. While the initial data are small perturbations of some monotonic shear profile, we prove the existence, uniqueness and stability of solutions in weighted Sobolev space by energy methods. The key point is that the life span of the solution could be any large $T$ as long as its initial date is a perturbation around the monotonic shear profile of small size like $e^{-T}$. The nonlinear cancellation properties of Prandtl equations under the monotonic assumption are the main ingredients to establish a new energy estimate.

Gevrey class smoothing effect for the Prandtl equation

It is well known that the Prandtl boundary layer equation is instable, and the well-posedness in Sobolev space for the Cauchy problem is an open problem. Recently, under the Oleinik's monotonicity assumption for the initial datum, [1] have proved the local well-posedness of Cauchy problem in Sobolev space (see also [21]). In this work, we study the Gevrey smoothing effects of the local solution obtained in [1]. We prove that the Sobolev's class solution belongs to some Gevrey class with respect to tangential variables at any positive time.

Sharp regularity properties for the non-cutoff spatially homogeneous Boltzmann equation

In this work, we study the Cauchy problem for the spatially homogeneous non-cutoff Boltzamnn equation with Maxwellian molecules. We prove that this Cauchy problem enjoys Gelfand-Shilov regularizing effect, that means the smoothing properties is same as the Cauchy problem defined by the evolution equation associated to a fractional harmonic oscillator. The power of this fractional is exactly the singular index of non-cutoff collisional kernel of Boltzmann operator. So that we get the regularity of solution in the Gevery class with the sharp power and the optimal exponential decay of solutions. We also give a method to construct the solution of the nonlinear Boltzmann equation by solving an infinite ``triangular'' systems of ordinary differential equations. The key tools is the spectral decomposition of linear and non-linear Boltzmann operators.

$C^\infty$ local solutions of elliptical $2-$Hessian equation in $\mathbb{R}^3$

In this work, we study the existence of $C^{\infty}$ local solutions to $2$-Hessian equation in $\mathbb{R}^{3}$. We consider the case that the right hand side function $f$ possibly vanishes, changes the sign, is positively or negatively defined. We also give the convexities of solutions which are related with the annulation or the sign of right-hand side function $f$. The associated linearized operator are uniformly elliptic.

Incompressible Navier-Stokes-Fourier Limit from The Boltzmann Equation: Classical Solutions

The global classical solution to the incompressible Navier-Stokes-Fourier equation with small initial data in the whole space is constructed through a zero Knudsen number limit from the solutions to the Boltzmann equation with general collision kernels. The key point is the uniform estimate of the Sobolev norm on the global solutions to the Boltzmann equation.

A remark on the ultra-analytic smoothing properties of the spatially homogeneous Landau equation

We consider the non-linear spatially homogeneous Landau equation with Maxwellian molecules in a close-to-equilibrium framework and show that the Cauchy problem for the fluctuation around the Maxwellian equilibrium distribution enjoys a Gelfand-Shilov regularizing effect implying the ultra-analyticity of both the fluctuation and its Fourier transform for any positive time.

Phase space analysis and functional calculus for the linearized Landau and Boltzmann operators

In many works, the linearized non-cutoff Boltzmann operator is considered to behave essentially as a fractional Laplacian. In the present work, we prove that the linearized non-cutoff Boltzmann operator with Maxwellian molecules is exactly equal to a fractional power of the linearized Landau operator which is the sum of the harmonic oscillator and the spherical Laplacian. This result allows to display explicit sharp coercive estimates satisfied by the linearized non-cutoff Boltzmann operator for both Maxwellian and non-Maxwellian molecules.

Spectral and phase space analysis of the linearized non-cutoff Kac collision operator

The non-cutoff Kac operator is a kinetic model for the non-cutoff radially symmetric Boltzmann operator. For Maxwellian molecules, the linearization of the non-cutoff Kac operator around a Maxwellian distribution is shown to be a function of the harmonic oscillator, to be diagonal in the Hermite basis and to be essentially a fractional power of the harmonic oscillator. This linearized operator is a pseudodifferential operator, and we provide a complete asymptotic expansion for its symbol in a class enjoying a nice symbolic calculus. Related results for the linearized non-cutoff radially symmetric Boltzmann operator are also proven.

Well-posedness of The Prandtl Equation in Sobolev Spaces

We develop a new approach to study the well-posedness theory of the Prandtl equation in Sobolev spaces by using a direct energy method under a monotonicity condition on the tangential velocity field instead of using the Crocco transformation. Precisely, we firstly investigate the linearized Prandtl equation in some weighted Sobolev spaces when the tangential velocity of the background state is monotonic in the normal variable. Then to cope with the loss of regularity of the perturbation with respect to the background state due to the degeneracy of the equation, we apply the Nash-Moser-Hormander iteration to obtain a well-posedness theory of classical solutions to the nonlinear Prandtl equation when the initial data is a small perturbation of a monotonic shear flow.

Boltzmann equation without angular cutoff in the whole space: I, Global existence for soft potential

It is known that the singularity in the non-cutoff cross-section of the Boltzmann equation leads to the gain of regularity and gain of weight in the velocity variable. By defining and analyzing a non-isotropy norm which precisely captures the dissipation in the linearized collision operator, we first give a new and precise coercivity estimate for the non-cutoff Boltzmann equation for general physical cross sections. Then the Cauchy problem for the Boltzmann equation is considered in the framework of small perturbation of an equilibrium state. In this part, for the soft potential case in the sense that there is no positive power gain of weight in the coercivity estimate on the linearized operator, we derive some new functional estimates on the nonlinear collision operator. Together with the coercivity estimates, we prove the global existence of classical solutions for the Boltzmann equation in weighted Sobolev spaces.

Bounded Solutions of the Boltzmann Equation in the Whole Space

We construct bounded classical solutions of the Boltzmann equation in the whole space without specifying any limit behaviors at the spatial infinity and without assuming the smallness condition on initial data. More precisely, we show that if the initial data is non-negative and belongs to a uniformly local Sobolev space in the space variable with Maxwellian type decay property in the velocity variable, then the Cauchy problem of the Boltzmann equation possesses a unique non-negative local solution in the same function space, both for the cutoff and non-cutoff collision cross section with mild singularity. The known solutions such as solutions on the torus (space periodic solutions) and in the vacuum (solutions vanishing at the spatial infinity), and solutions in the whole space having a limit equilibrium state at the spatial infinity are included in our category.

Global existence and full regularity of the Boltzmann equation without angular cutoff

We prove the global existence and uniqueness of classical solutions around an equilibrium to the Boltzmann equation without angular cutoff in some Sobolev spaces. In addition, the solutions thus obtained are shown to be non-negative and $C^\infty$ in all variables for any positive time. In this paper, we study the Maxwellian molecule type collision operator with mild singularity. One of the key observations is the introduction of a new important norm related to the singular behavior of the cross section in the collision operator. This norm captures the essential properties of the singularity and yields precisely the dissipation of the linearized collision operator through the celebrated H-theorem.

The Boltzmann equation without angular cutoff in the whole space: III, Qualitative properties of solutions

This is a continuation of our series of works for the inhomogeneous Boltzmann equation. We study qualitative properties of classical solutions, precisely, the full regularization in all variables, uniqueness, non-negativity and convergence rate to the equilibrium. Together with the results of Parts I and II about the well posedness of the Cauchy problem around Maxwellian, we conclude this series with a satisfactory mathematical theory for Boltzmann equation without angular cutoff.

Regularizing effect and local existence for non-cutoff Boltzmann equation

The Boltzmann equation without Grad's angular cutoff assumption is believed to have regularizing effect on the solution because of the non-integrable angular singularity of the cross-section. However, even though so far this has been justified satisfactorily for the spatially homogeneous Boltzmann equation, it is still basically unsolved for the spatially inhomogeneous Boltzmann equation. In this paper, by sharpening the coercivity and upper bound estimates for the collision operator, establishing the hypo-ellipticity of the Boltzmann operator based on a generalized version of the uncertainty principle, and analyzing the commutators between the collision operator and some weighted pseudo differential operators, we prove the regularizing effect in all (time, space and velocity) variables on solutions when some mild regularity is imposed on these solutions. For completeness, we also show that when the initial data has this mild regularity and Maxwellian type decay in velocity variable, there exists a unique local solution with the same regularity, so that this solution enjoys the $C^\infty$ regularity for positive time.
