On Force Interactions for Electrodynamics-Like Theories

A framework for premetric p-form electrodynamics is proposed. Independently of particular constitutive relations, the corresponding Maxwell equations are derived as a special case of stress theory in geometric continuum mechanics. Expressions for the potential energy of a charged region in spacetime, as well as expressions for the force and stress interactions on the region, are presented. The expression for the force distribution is obtained by computing the rate of change of the proposed potential energy under a virtual motion of the region. These expressions differ from those appearing in the standard references. The cases of electrostatics and magnetostatics in R^3 are presented as examples.

On the principal frequency of non-homogeneous membranes

We obtained estimates for first eigenvalues of the Dirichlet boundary value problem for elliptic operators in divergence form (i.e. for the principal frequency of non-homogeneous membranes) in bounded domains $Ω\subset \mathbb C$ satisfying quasihyperbolic boundary conditions. The suggested method is based on the quasiconformal composition operators on Sobolev spaces and their applications to constant estimates in the corresponding Sobolev-Poincaré inequalities. We also prove a variant of the Rayleigh-Faber-Khran inequality for a special case of these elliptic operators.

Composition operators on Sobolev spaces and Ball's classes

In this paper we study geometric aspects of Ball's classes in the context of nonlinear elasticity problems. The suggested approach is based on the characterization of Ball's classes $A_{q,q'}(Ω)$ in terms of composition operators on Sobolev spaces. This characterization allows us to obtain the volume compression (distortion) estimates of topological mappings of Ball's classes. We prove also that Sobolev homeomorphisms of Ball's classes which possess the Luzin $N$-property are absolutely continuous with respect to capacity.

Estimates of Dirichlet eigenvalues of divergent elliptic operators in non-Lipschitz domains

We study spectral estimates of the divergence form uniform elliptic operators $-\textrm{div}[A(z) \nabla f(z)]$ with the Dirichlet boundary condition in bounded non-Lipschitz simply connected domains $Ω\subset \mathbb C$. The suggested method is based on the quasiconformal composition operators on Sobolev spaces with applications to the weighted Poincaré-Sobolev inequalities.

Quasiconformal Mappings and Neumann Eigenvalues of Divergent Elliptic Operators

We study spectral properties of divergence form elliptic operators $-\textrm{div} [A(z) \nabla f(z)]$ with the Neumann boundary condition in planar domains (including some fractal type domains), that satisfy to the quasihyperbolic boundary conditions. Our method is based on an interplay between quasiconformal mappings, elliptic operators and composition operators on Sobolev spaces.

Space quasiconformal composition operators with applications to Neumann eigenvalues

In this article we obtain estimates of Neumann eigenvalues of $p$-Laplace operators in a large class of space domains satisfying quasihyperbolic boundary conditions. The suggested method is based on composition operators generated by quasiconformal mappings and their applications to Sobolev-Poincaré-inequalities. By using a sharp version of the inverse Hölder inequality we refine our estimates for quasi-balls, that is, images of balls under quasiconformal mappings of the whole space.

The dynamics of polydisperse spray fuel in thermal explosion processes

The dynamics of the particle-size distribution (PSD) of the polydispersed fuel is important for evaluation of the combustion process. In this paper we unfold the mystery of the dynamics represented by the PSD and gain new insight for the droplet behavior during the ignition process. A simplified model of the polydispersity is used for describing the system near the linear region, which evolves time depended function which describes the PSD. We examine the PSD uctuation in time of the initial PSD described by the experimental as well as the Rosin-Rammler, Nukiyama-Tanasawa and the gamma distributions approximations. The results shows that the during the ignition process the droplets radii decrease as expected, yet the number of the smaller droplet increase in inverse proportion to the radius. An important novel result visualized by the graph, is the average radius of the droplets which first increases for shot time following by decreasing. The last result show the maximum of average radius is not located at the beginning of the process as expected. The algorithm presented here is superior to the parcel approach, since it can be applied for any approximation of the PSD, with negligible computation time.

Boundary Values of Functions of Dirichlet Spaces $L^1_2$ on Capacitary Boundaries

We prove that any weakly differentiable function with square integrable gradient can be extended to a capacitary boundary of any simply connected plane domain $Ω\ne\mathbb R^2$ except a set of a conformal capacity zero. For locally connected at boundary points domains the capacitary boundary coincides with the Euclidean one. A concept of a capacitary boundary was proposed by V.~Gol'dshtein and S.~K.~Vodop'yanov in 1978 for a study of boundary behavior of quasi-conformal homeomorphisms. We prove in details the main properties of the capacitary boundary. An abstract version of the extension property for more general classes of plane domains is discussed also.

Conformal spectral stability for the Dirichlet-Laplace operator

We study the eigenvalue problem for the Dirichlet Laplacian in bounded simply connected plane domains $Ω\subset\mathbb{C}$ using conformal transformations of the original problem to the weighted eigenvalue problem for the Dirichlet Laplacian in the unit disc $\mathbb{D}$. This allows us to estimate the variation of the eigenvalues of the Dirichlet Laplacian upon domain perturbation via energy type integrals for a large class of "conformal regular" domains which includes all quasidiscs, i.e. images of the unit disc under quasiconformal homeomorphisms of the plane onto itself. Boundaries of such domains can have any Hausdorff dimension between one and two.

Reduced $L_{q,p}$-Cohomology of Some Twisted Products

Vanishing results for reduced $L_{p,q}$-cohomology are established in the case of twisted products, which are a~generalization of warped products. Only the case $q \leq p$ is considered. This is an extension of some results by Gol'dshtein, Kuz'minov and Shvedov about the $L_{p}$-cohomology of warped cylinders. One of the main observations is the vanishing of the "middle-dimensional" cohomology for a large class of manifolds. This means that the $L_2$-Betty numbers are zero in the "middle dimension".

Sobolev homeomorphisms and Brennan's conjecture

Let $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ be a domain that supports the $p$-Poincaré inequality. Given a homeomorphism $φ\in L^1_p(Ω)$, for $p>n$ we show the domain $φ(Ω)$ has finite geodesic diameter. This result has a direct application to Brennan's conjecture and quasiconformal homeomorphisms. {\bf The Inverse Brennan's conjecture} states that for any simply connected plane domain $Ω' \subset\mathbb C$ with nonempty boundary and for any conformal homeomorphism $φ$ from the unit disc $\mathbb{D}$ onto $Ω'$ the complex derivative $φ'$ is integrable in the degree $s$, $-2<s<2/3$. If $Ω'$ is bounded than $-2<s\leq 2$. We prove that integrability in the degree $s> 2$ is not possible for domains $Ω'$ with infinite geodesic diameter.
