Binomial edge ideals and rational normal scrolls

Let XX be the Hankel matrix of size 2×n2\times n and let GG be a closed graph on the vertex set [n].[n]. We study the binomial ideal IG⊂K[x1,…,xn+1]I_G\subset K[x_1,\ldots,x_{n+1}] which is generated by all the 22-minors of XX which correspond to the edges of G.G. We show that IGI_G is Cohen-Macaulay. We find the minimal primes of IGI_G and show that IGI_G is a set theoretical complete intersection. Moreover, a sharp upper bound for the regularity of IGI_G is given.

Pseudo-Gorenstein and level Hibi rings

We introduce pseudo-Gorenstein rings and characterize those Hibi rings attached to a finite distributive lattice L which are pseudo-Gorenstein. The characterization is given in terms of the poset of join-irreducible elements of L. We also present a necessary condition for Hibi rings to be level. Special attention is given to planar and hyper-planar lattices. Finally the pseudo-Goresntein and level property of Hibi rings and generalized Hibi rings is compared with each other.

Linear flags and Koszul filtrations

We show that the graded maximal ideal of a graded KK-algebra RR has linear quotients for a suitable choice and order of its generators if the defining ideal of RR has a quadratic Gröbner basis with respect to the reverse lexicographic order, and show that this linear quotient property for algebras defined by binomial edge ideals characterizes closed graphs. Furthermore, for algebras defined by binomial edge ideals attached to a closed graph and for join-meet rings attached to a finite distributive lattice we present explicit Koszul filtrations.

Determinantal Facet Ideals

We consider ideals generated by general sets of mm-minors of an m×nm\times n-matrix of indeterminates. The generators are identified with the facets of an (m−1)(m-1)-dimensional pure simplicial complex. The ideal generated by the minors corresponding to the facets of such a complex is called a determinantal facet ideal. Given a pure simplicial complex ΔΔ, we discuss the question when the generating minors of its determinantal facet ideal JΔJ_Δ form a Gröbner basis and when JΔJ_Δ is a prime ideal.

Simplicial complexes with rigid depth

We extend a result of Minh and Trung to get criteria for $\depth I=\depth\sqrt{I}$ where II is an unmixed monomial ideal of the polynomial ring S=K[x1,...,xn]S=K[x_1,..., x_n]. As an application we characterize all the pure simplicial complexes ΔΔ which have rigid depth, that is, which satisfy the condition that for every unmixed monomial ideal I⊂SI\subset S with I=IΔ\sqrt{I}=I_Δ one has $\depth(I)=\depth(I_Δ).$

The binomial edge ideal of a pair of graphs

We introduce a class of ideals generated by a set of 2-minors of m×nm\times n-matrix of indeterminates indexed by a pair of graphs. This class of ideals is a natural common generalization of binomial edge ideals and ideals generated by adjacent minors. We determine the minimal prime ideals of such ideals and give a lower bound for their degree of nilpotency. In some special cases we compute their Gröbner basis and characterize unmixedness and Cohen--Macaulayness.
