Algebraic implications of neighborhood hypergraphs and their transversal hypergraphs

In this paper, we unfold balanced and totally balanced neighborhood hypergraphs to discover new classes of normally torsion-free monomial ideals. As a consequence, we establish that the closed neighborhood ideals and the dominating ideals of strongly chordal graphs are normally torsion-free. We discuss the stable sets of associated primes of the dominating ideals of cycles and characterize all the cycles with normally torsion-free dominating ideals.

Dominating ideals and closed neighborhood ideals of graphs

We study the closed neighborhood ideals and the dominating ideals of graphs, in particular, of trees and cycles. We prove that the closed neighborhood ideals and the dominating ideals of trees are normally torsion-free. The closed neighborhood ideals and the dominating ideals of cycles fail to be normally torsion-free. However, we prove that the closed neighborhood ideals of cycles admit the (strong) persistence property and the dominating ideals of cycles are nearly normally torsion-free.

On the embedded associated primes of monomial ideals

Let $I$ be a square-free monomial ideal in a polynomial ring $R=K[x_1,\ldots, x_n]$ over a field $K$, $\mathfrak{m}=(x_1, \ldots, x_n)$ be the graded maximal ideal of $R$, and $\{u_1, \ldots, u_{β_1(I)}\}$ be a maximal independent set of minimal generators of $I$ such that $\mathfrak{m}\setminus x_i \notin \mathrm{Ass}(R/(I\setminus x_i)^t)$ for all $x_i\mid \prod_{i=1}^{β_1(I)}u_i$ and some positive integer $t$, where $I\setminus x_i$ denotes the deletion of $I$ at $x_i$ and $β_1(I)$ denotes the maximum cardinality of an independent set in $I$. In this paper, we prove that if $\mathfrak{m}\in \mathrm{Ass}(R/I^t)$, then $t\geq β_1(I)+1$. As an application, we verify that under certain conditions, every unmixed König ideal is normally torsion-free, and so has the strong persistence property. In addition, we show that every square-free transversal polymatroidal ideal is normally torsion-free. Next, we state some results on the corner-elements of monomial ideals. In particular, we prove that if $I$ is a monomial ideal in a polynomial ring $R=K[x_1, \ldots, x_n]$ over a field $K$ and $z$ is an $I^t$-corner-element for some positive integer $t$ such that $\mathfrak{m}\setminus x_i \notin \mathrm{Ass}(I\setminus x_i)^t$ for some $1\leq i \leq n$, then $x_i$ divides $z$.

On Reduced archimedean skew power series rings

In this paper, we prove that if $R$ is an Archimedean reduced ring and satisfy ACC on annihilators, then $R[[x]]$ is also an Archimedean reduced ring. More generally we prove that if $R$ is a right Archimedean ring satisfying the \emph{ACC} on annihilators and $α$ is a rigid automorphism of $R$, then the skew power series ring $R[[x;α]]$ is right Archimedean reduced ring. We also provide some examples to justify the assumptions we made to obtain the required result.

Restricted classes of Veronese type ideals and algebras

We study ideals which are generated by monomials of degree $d$ in the polynomial ring in $n$ variables and which satisfy certain numerical side conditions regarding their exponents. Typical examples of such ideals are the ideals of Veronese type, squarefree Veronese ideals or $t$-spread Veronese ideals. In this paper we focus on $c$-bounded $t$-spread Veronese ideals and on Veronese ideals of bounded support. Their powers as well as their fiber cone is also be considered.

Isotonian Algebras

To a pair $P$ and $Q$ of finite posets we attach the toric ring $K[P,Q]$ whose generators are in bijection to the isotone maps from $P$ to $Q$. This class of algebras, called isotonian, are natural generalizations of the so-called Hibi rings. We determine the Krull dimension of these algebras and for particular classes of posets $P$ and $Q$ we show that $K[P,Q]$ is normal and that their defining ideal admits a quadratic Gröbner basis.

Ideals generated by 2-minors, collection of cells and stack polyominoes

In this paper we study ideals generated by quite general sets of 2-minors of an $m \times n$-matrix of indeterminates. The sets of 2-minors are defined by collections of cells and include 2-sided ladders. For convex collections of cells it is shown that the attached ideal of 2-minors is a Cohen--Macaulay prime ideal. Primality is also shown for collections of cells whose connected components are row or column convex. Finally the class group of the ring attached to a stack polyomino and its canonical class is computed, and a classification of the Gorenstein stack polyominoes is given.

Persistence and stability properties of powers of ideals

We introduce the concept of strong persistence and show that it implies persistence regarding the associated prime ideals of the powers of an ideal. We also show that strong persistence is equivalent to a condition on power of ideals studied by Ratliff. Furthermore, we give an upper bound for the depth of powers of monomial ideals in terms of their linear relation graph, and apply this to show that the index of depth stability and the index of stability for the associated prime ideals of polymatroidal ideals is bounded by their analytic spread.

The binomial edge ideal of a pair of graphs

We introduce a class of ideals generated by a set of 2-minors of $m\times n$-matrix of indeterminates indexed by a pair of graphs. This class of ideals is a natural common generalization of binomial edge ideals and ideals generated by adjacent minors. We determine the minimal prime ideals of such ideals and give a lower bound for their degree of nilpotency. In some special cases we compute their Gröbner basis and characterize unmixedness and Cohen--Macaulayness.
