Entanglement versus cooling in the system of a driven pair of two-level qubits longitudinally coupled with a boson mode field

The relationship among the entanglement creation within coherently pumped and closely spaced two-level emitters longitudinally coupled with a single-mode boson field, and the subsequent quantum cooling of the boson mode is investigated. Even though the two-level qubits are resonantly driven, we have demonstrated an efficient cooling mechanism well below limits imposed by the thermal background. Furthermore, the cooling effect is accompanied by entanglement of the qubit pair components when the dipole-dipole frequency shift is close to the frequency of the boson mode. The maximum boson mode cooling efficiency realizes on the expense of the entanglement creation. Importantly, this occurs for rather weak external pumping fields protecting the sample from the deteriorations. Finally, the conditions to effectively optimize these effects are described as well.

Phase dependence of the unnormalized second-order photon correlation function

We investigate the resonant quantum dynamics of a multi-qubit ensemble in a microcavity. Both the quantum-dot subsystem and the microcavity mode are pumped coherently. We found that the microcavity photon statistics depends on the phase difference of the driving lasers which is not the case for the photon intensity at resonant driving. This way, one can manipulate the two-photon correlations. In particular, higher degrees of photon correlations and, eventually, stronger intensities are obtained. Furthermore, the microcavity photon statistics exhibits steady-state oscillatory behaviors as well as asymmetries.

Cavity-output-field control via interference effects

We show how interference effects are responsible for manipulating the output electromagnetic field of an optical micro-resonator in the good-cavity limit. The system of interest consists in a moderately strongly pumped two-level emitter embedded in the optical cavity. When an additional weaker laser of the same frequency is pumping the combined system through one of the resonator's mirrors then the output cavity electromagnetic field can be almost completely suppressed or enhanced. This is due to the interference among the scattered light by the strongly pumped atom into the cavity mode and the incident weaker laser field. The result applies to photonic crystal environments as well.

Enhanced photon correlations due to strong laser-atom-cavity coupling

We investigate the resonant quantum dynamics of a laser-pumped real or artificial two-level single-atom system embedded in a leaking microcavity. We found that for stronger laser-atom-cavity couplings the generated microcavity photons exhibit larger steady-state correlations. In particular, the second- and third-order photon correlation functions are greater than the corresponding ones obtained for an incoherent light source, respectively. Furthermore, the emitted microcavity photon flux is enhanced in comparison to weaker coupling cases.
