Block decomposition of the category of l-modular smooth representations of finite length of GL(m,D)

Let F be a non-Archimedean locally compact field of residue characteristic p, let G be an inner form of GL(n,F) with n>0, and let l be a prime number different from p. We describe the block decomposition of the category of finite length smooth representations of G with coefficients in an algebraically closed field of characteristic l. Unlike the case of complex representations of an arbitrary p-adic reductive group and that of l-modular representations of GL(n,F), several non-isomorphic supercuspidal supports may correspond to the same block. We describe the (finitely many) supercuspidal supports corresponding to a given block. We also prove that a supercuspidal block is equivalent to the principal (that is, the one which contains the trivial character) block of the multiplicative group of a suitable division algebra, and we determine those irreducible representations having a nontrivial extension with a given supercuspidal representation of G.

The local Jacquet--Langlands correspondence and congruences modulo {\ell}

Let F be a non-Archimedean local field of residual characteristic p, and {\ell} be a prime number different from p. We consider the local Jacquet-Langlands correspondence between {\ell}-adic discrete series of GL(n,F) and an inner form GL(m,D). We show that it respects the relationship of congruence modulo {\ell}. More precisely, we show that two integral {\ell}-adic discrete series of GL(m,D) are congruent modulo {\ell} if and only if the same holds for their Jacquet-Langlands transfers to GL(m,D).

Comptage de représentations cuspidales congruentes

Let $F$ be a non-Archimedean locally compact field of residue characteristic $p$, $G$ be an inner form of $GL_n(F)$, $n\ge1$, and $\ell$ be a prime number different from $p$. We give a numerical criterion for an integral $\ell$-adic irreducible cuspidal representation $\tildeρ$ of $G$ to have a super\-cuspidal irreducible reduction mod $\ell$, by counting inertial classes of cuspidal representations that are congruent to the inertial class of $\tildeρ$, generalizing results by Vign{é}ras and Dat. In the case the reduction mod $\ell$ of $\tildeρ$ is not super\-cuspidal irreducible, we show that this counting argument allows us to compute its length and the size of the supercuspidal support of its irreducible components. We define an invariant $w(\tildeρ)\ge1$ | the product of this length by this size | which is expected to behave nicely through the local Jacquet-Langlands correspondence. Given an $\ell$-modular irreducible cuspidal representation $ρ$ of $G$ and a positive integer $a$, we give a criterion for the existence of an integral $\ell$-adic irreducible cuspidal representation $\tildeρ$ of $G$ such that its reduction mod $\ell$ contains $ρ$ and has length $a$. This allows us to obtain a formula for the cardinality of the set of reductions mod $\ell$ of inertial classes of $\ell$-adic irreducible cuspidal representations $\tildeρ$ with given depth and invariant $w$. These results are expected to be useful to prove that the local Jacquet-Langlands correspondence preserves congruences mod $\ell$.

Modular representations of GL(n) distinguished by GL(n-1) over a p-adic field

Let $\F$ be a non-Archimedean locally compact field, $q$ be the cardinality of its residue field, and $\R$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic $\ell$ not dividing $q$.We classify all irredu\-cible smooth $\R$-representations of $\GL\_n(\F)$ having a nonzero $\GL\_{n-1}(\F)$-inva\-riant linear form, when $q$ is not congruent to $1$ mod $\ell$.Partial results in the case when $q$ is $1$ mod $\ell$ show that, unlike the complex case, the space of $\GL\_{n-1}(\F)$-invariant linear forms has dimension $2$ for certain irreducible representations.

The $\ell$-modular Zelevinski involution

Let F be a non-Archimedean locally compact field with residual characteristic p, let G be an inner form of GL(n,F) for a positive integer n and let R be an algebraically closed field of characteristic different from p. When R has characteristic $\ell>0$, the image of an irreducible smooth R-representation $π$ of G by the Aubert involution need not be irreducible. We prove that this image (in the Grothendieck group of G) contains a unique irreducible term $π$* with the same cuspidal support as $π$. This defines an involution on the set of isomorphism classes of irreducible R-representations of G, that coincides with the Zelevinski involution when R is the field of complex numbers. The method we use also works for F a finite field of characteristic p, in which case we get a similar result.

Block decomposition of the category of l-modular smooth representations of GL(n,F) and its inner forms

Let F be a non-Archimedean locally compact field of residue characteristic p, let D be a finite dimensional central division F-algebra and let R be an algebraically closed field of characteristic different from p. To any irreducible smooth representation of G=GL(m,D) with coefficients in R, we can attach a uniquely determined inertial class of supercuspidal pairs of G. This provides us with a partition of the set of all isomorphism classes of irreducible representations of G. We write R(G) for the category of all smooth representations of G with coefficients in R. To any inertial class O of supercuspidal pairs of G, we can attach the subcategory R(O) made of smooth representations all of whose irreducible subquotients are in the subset determined by this inertial class. We prove that R(G) decomposes into the product of the R(O), where O ranges over all possible inertial class of supercuspidal pairs of G, and that each summand R(O) is indecomposable.

Représentations lisses modulo l de GL(m,D)

Let F be a non-Archimedean locally compact field of residue characteristic p, let D be a finite dimensional central division F-algebra and let R be an algebraically closed field of characteristic different from p. We classify all smooth irreducible representations of GL(m,D) with coefficients in R, in terms of multisegments, generalizing works by Zelevinski, Tadic and Vignéras. We prove that any irreducible R-representation of GL(m,D) has a unique supercuspidal support, and thus get two classifications: one by supercuspidal multisegments, classifying representations with a given supercuspidal support, and one by aperiodic multisegments, classifying representations with a given cuspidal support. These constructions are made in a purely local way, with a substantial use of type theory.

Modules universels de GL(3) sur un corps p-adique en caractéristique p

Let F be a p-adic field with residue class field k. We investigate the structure of certain mod p universal modules for GL(3,F) over the corresponding Hecke algebras. To this end, we first study the structure of some mod p universal modules for the finite group GL(n,k) as modules over the corresponding Hecke algebras. We then relate this finite case to the p-adic one by using homological coefficient systems on the the affine Bruhat-Tits building of GL(3). Suppose now that k has cardinality p. We prove that the mod p universal module of GL(3,F) relative to the Iwahori subroup is flat and projective over the Iwahori-Hecke algebra. When replacing the Iwahori subgroup of GL(3,F) by its pro-p-radical, we prove that the corresponding module is flat over the pro-p Iwahori-Hecke algebra if and only if p=2.

Smooth representations of GL_m(D) VI : semisimple types

We give a complete description of the category of smooth complex representations of the multiplicative group of a central simple algebra over a locally compact nonarchimedean local field. More precisely, for each inertial class in the Bernstein spectrum, we construct a type and compute its Hecke algebra. The Hecke algebras that arise are all naturally isomorphic to products of affine Hecke algebras of type A. We also prove that, for cuspidal classes, the simple type is unique up to conjugacy.

Smooth representations of GL(m,D), V: Endo-classes

Let F be a locally compact nonarchimedean local field. In this article, we extend to any inner form of GL(n) over F the notion of endo-class introduced by Bushnell and Henniart for GL(n,F). We investigate the intertwining relations of simple characters of these groups, in particular their preservation properties under transfer. This allows us to associate to any discrete series representation of an inner form of GL(n,F) an endo-class over F. We conjecture that this endo-class is invariant under the local Jacquet-Langlands correspondence.
