On the extension of quasiplurisubharmonic functions

Let $(V,ω)$ be a compact Kähler manifold such that $V$ admits a cover by Zariski-open Stein sets with the property that $ω$ has a strictly plurisubharmonic exhaustive potential on each element of the cover. If $X\subset V$ is an analytic subvariety, we prove that any $ω|_X$-plurisubharmonic function on $X$ extends to a $ω$-plurisubharmonic function on $V$. This result generalizes a previous result of ours on the extension of singular metrics of ample line bundles. It allows one to show that any transcendental Kähler class in the real Neron-Severi space $NS_{\mathbb R}(V)$ has this extension property.

Plurisigned hermitian metrics

Let $(X,ω)$ be a compact hermitian manifold of dimension $n$. We study the asymptotic behavior of Monge-Ampère volumes $\int_X (ω+dd^c φ)^n$, when $ω+dd^c φ$ varies in the set of hermitian forms that are $dd^c$-cohomologous to $ω$. We show that these Monge-Ampère volumes are uniformly bounded if $ω$ is "strongly pluripositive", and that they are uniformly positive if $ω$ is "strongly plurinegative". This motivates the study of the existence of such plurisigned hermitian metrics. We analyze several classes of examples (complex parallelisable manifolds, twistor spaces, Vaisman manifolds) admitting such metrics, showing that they cannot coexist. We take a close look at $6$-dimensional nilmanifolds which admit a left-invariant complex structure, showing that each of them admit a plurisigned hermitian metric, while only few of them admit a pluriclosed metric. We also study $6$-dimensional solvmanifolds with trivial canonical bundle.

Finite entropy vs finite energy

Probability measures with either finite Monge-Ampère energy or finite entropy have played a central role in recent developments in Kähler geometry. In this note we make a systematic study of quasi-plurisubharmonic potentials whose Monge-Ampère measures have finite entropy. We show that these potentials belong to the finite energy class ${\mathcal E}^{\frac{n}{n-1}}$, where $n$ denotes the complex dimension, and provide examples showing that this critical exponent is sharp. Our proof relies on refined Moser-Trudinger inequalities for quasi-plurisubharmonic functions.

Kähler-Einstein metrics and the Kähler-Ricci flow on log Fano varieties

We prove the existence and uniqueness of Kähler-Einstein metrics on Q-Fano varieties with log terminal singularities (and more generally on log Fano pairs) whose Mabuchi functional is proper. We study analogues of the works of Perelman on the convergence of the normalized Kähler-Ricci flow, and of Keller, Rubinstein on its discrete version, Ricci iteration. In the special case of (non-singular) Fano manifolds, our results on Ricci iteration yield smooth convergence without any additional condition, improving on previous results. Our result for the Kähler-Ricci flow provides weak convergence independently of Perelman's celebrated estimates.

The metric completion of the Riemannian space of Kähler metrics

Let $X$ be a compact Kähler manifold and $\a \in H^{1,1}(X,\R)$ a Kähler class. We study the metric completion of the space $\HH_\a$ of Kähler metrics in $\a$, when endowed with the Mabuchi $L^2$-metric $d$. Using recent ideas of Darvas, we show that the metric completion $(\overline{\HH}_\a,d)$ of $(\HH_\a,d)$ is a CAT(0) space which can be identified with $\E^2(\a)$, a subset of the class $\E^1(\a)$ of positive closed currents with finite energy. We further prove, in the toric setting, that $\overline{\HH}_{\a,tor}=\E_{tor}^2(\a)$.

Weak solutions to degenerate complex Monge-Ampére Flows II

Studying the (long-term) behavior of the Kähler-Ricci flow on mildly singular varieties, one is naturally lead to study weak solutions of degenerate parabolic complex Monge-Ampére equations. The purpose of this article, the second of a series on this subject, is to develop a viscosity theory for degenerate complex Monge-Ampére flows on compact Kähler manifolds. Our general theory allows in particular to define and study the (normalized) Kähler-Ricci flow on varieties with canonical singularities, generalizing results of Song and Tian.

Continuous approximation of quasi-plurisubharmonic functions

Let $X$ be a compact Kähler manifold and $θ$ a smooth closed $(1,1)$-real form representing a big cohomology class $α\in H^{1,1}(X,\R)$. The purpose of this note is to show, using pluripotential and viscosity techniques, that any $θ$-plurisubharmonic function $\f$ can be approximated from above by a decreasing sequence of continuous $θ$-plurisubharmonic functions with minimal singularities, assuming that there exists a single such function.

A Lichnerowicz estimate for the first eigenvalue of convex domains in Kähler manifolds

In this article, we prove a Lichnerowicz estimate for a compact convex domain of a Kähler manifold whose Ricci curvature satisfies $\Ric \ge k$ for some constant $k>0$. When equality is achieved, the boundary of the domain is totally geodesic and there exists a nontrivial holomorphic vector field. We show that a ball of sufficiently large radius in complex projective space provides an example of a strongly pseudoconvex domain which is not convex, and for which the Lichnerowicz estimate fails.

Hölder continuous solutions to Monge-Ampère equations

Let $(X,ω)$ be a compact Kähler manifold. We obtain uniform Hölder regularity for solutions to the complex Monge-Ampère equation on $X$ with $L^p$ right hand side, $p>1$. The same regularity is furthermore proved on the ample locus in any big cohomology class. We also study the range $\MAH(X,ω)$ of the complex Monge-Ampère operator acting on $ω$-plurisubharmonic Hölder continuous functions. We show that this set is convex, by sharpening Kołodziej's result that measures with $L^p$-density belong to $\MAH(X,ω)$ and proving that $\MAH(X,ω)$ has the "$L^p$-property", $p>1$. We also describe accurately the symmetric measures it contains.

Extension of plurisubharmonic functions with growth control

Suppose that $X$ is an analytic subvariety of a Stein manifold $M$ and that $φ$ is a plurisubharmonic (psh) function on $X$ which is dominated by a continuous psh exhaustion function $u$ of $M$. Given any number $c>1$, we show that $φ$ admits a psh extension to $M$ which is dominated by $cu$ on $M$. We use this result to prove that any $ω$-psh function on a subvariety of the complex projective space is the restriction of a global $ω$-psh function, where $ω$ is the Fubini-Study Kähler form.

Viscosity solutions to degenerate Complex Monge-Ampère equations

We develop an alternative approach to Degenerate complex Monge-Ampère equations on compact Kähler manifolds based on the concept of viscosity solutions and compare systematically viscosity concepts with pluripotential theoretic ones. We generalize to the Kähler case a theorem due to Dinew and Zhang in the projective case to the effect that their pluripotential solutions constructed previously by the authors are continuous.
