On the extension of quasiplurisubharmonic functions

Let $(V,ω)$ be a compact Kähler manifold such that $V$ admits a cover by Zariski-open Stein sets with the property that $ω$ has a strictly plurisubharmonic exhaustive potential on each element of the cover. If $X\subset V$ is an analytic subvariety, we prove that any $ω|_X$-plurisubharmonic function on $X$ extends to a $ω$-plurisubharmonic function on $V$. This result generalizes a previous result of ours on the extension of singular metrics of ample line bundles. It allows one to show that any transcendental Kähler class in the real Neron-Severi space $NS_{\mathbb R}(V)$ has this extension property.

Universality results for zeros of random holomorphic sections

In this work we prove an universality result regarding the equidistribution of zeros of random holomorphic sections associated to a sequence of singular Hermitian holomorphic line bundles on a compact Kähler complex space $X$. Namely, under mild moment assumptions, we show that the asymptotic distribution of zeros of random holomorphic sections is independent of the choice of the probability measure on the space of holomorphic sections. In the case when $X$ is a compact Kähler manifold, we also prove an off-diagonal exponential decay estimate for the Bergman kernels of a sequence of positive line bundles on $X$.

On the approximation of positive closed currents on compact Kaehler manifolds

Let $L$ be a holomorphic line bundle over a compact Kähler manifold $X$ endowed with a singular Hermitian metric $h$ with curvature current $c_1(L,h)\geq0$. In certain cases when the wedge product $c_1(L,h)^k$ is a well defined current for some positive integer $k\leq\dim X$, we prove that $c_1(L,h)^k$ can be approximated by averages of currents of integration over the common zero sets of $k$-tuples of holomorphic sections over $X$ of the high powers $L^p:=L^{\otimes p}$. In the second part of the paper we study the convergence of the Fubini-Study currents and the equidistribution of zeros of $L^2$-holomorphic sections of the adjoint bundles $L^p\otimes K_X$, where $L$ is a holomorphic line bundle over a complex manifold $X$ endowed with a singular Hermitian metric $h$ with positive curvature current. As an application, we obtain an approximation theorem for the current $c_1(L,h)^k$ using currents of integration over the common zero sets of $k$-tuples of sections of $L^p\otimes K_X$.

Convergence of Fubini-Study currents for orbifold line bundles

We discuss positive closed currents and Fubini-Study currents on orbifolds, as well as Bergman kernels of singular Hermitian orbifold line bundles. We prove that the Fubini-Study currents associated to high powers of a semipositive singular line bundle converge weakly to the curvature current on the set where the curvature is strictly positive, generalizing a well-known theorem of Tian. We include applications to the asymptotic distribution of zeros of random holomorphic sections.

Equidistribution results for singular metrics on line bundles

Let L be a holomorphic line bundle with a positively curved singular Hermitian metric over a complex manifold X. One can define naturally the sequence of Fubini-Study currents associated to the space of square integrable holomorphic sections of the p-th tensor powers of L. Assuming that the singular set of the metric is contained in a compact analytic subset of X and that the logarithm of the Bergman kernel function associated to the p-th tensor power of L (defined outside the singular set) grows like o(p) as p tends to infinity, we prove the following: 1) the k-th power of the Fubini-Study currents converge weakly on the whole X to the k-th power of the curvature current of L. 2) the expectations of the common zeros of a random k-tuple of square integrable holomorphic sections converge weakly in the sense of currents to to the k-th power of the curvature current of L. Here k is so that the codimension of the singular set of the metric is greater or equal as k. Our weak asymptotic condition on the Bergman kernel function is known to hold in many cases, as it is a consequence of its asymptotic expansion. We also prove it here in a quite general setting. We then show that many important geometric situations (singular metrics on big line bundles, Kaehler-Einstein metrics on Zariski-open sets, artihmetic quotients) fit into our framework.

Pade interpolation by F-polynomials and transfinite diameter

We define $F$-polynomials as linear combinations of dilations by some frequencies of an entire function $F$. In this paper we use Pade interpolation of holomorphic functions in the unit disk by $F$-polynomials to obtain explicitly approximating $F$-polynomials with sharp estimates on their coefficients. We show that when frequencies lie in a compact set $K\subset\mathbb C$ then optimal choices for the frequencies of interpolating polynomials are similar to Fekete points. Moreover, the minimal norms of the interpolating operators form a sequence whose rate of growth is determined by the transfinite diameter of $K$. In case of the Laplace transforms of measures on $K$, we show that the coefficients of interpolating polynomials stay bounded provided that the frequencies are Fekete points. Finally, we give a sufficient condition for measures on the unit circle which ensures that the sums of the absolute values of the coefficients of interpolating polynomials stay bounded.

Extension of plurisubharmonic functions with growth control

Suppose that $X$ is an analytic subvariety of a Stein manifold $M$ and that $φ$ is a plurisubharmonic (psh) function on $X$ which is dominated by a continuous psh exhaustion function $u$ of $M$. Given any number $c>1$, we show that $φ$ admits a psh extension to $M$ which is dominated by $cu$ on $M$. We use this result to prove that any $ω$-psh function on a subvariety of the complex projective space is the restriction of a global $ω$-psh function, where $ω$ is the Fubini-Study Kähler form.

Polynomial estimates, exponential curves and Diophantine approximation

Let $α\in(0,1)\setminus{\Bbb Q}$ and $K=\{(e^z,e^{αz}):\,|z|\leq1\}\subset{\Bbb C}^2$. If $P$ is a polynomial of degree $n$ in ${\Bbb C}^2$, normalized by $\|P\|_K=1$, we obtain sharp estimates for $\|P\|_{Δ^2}$ in terms of $n$, where $Δ^2$ is the closed unit bidisk. For most $α$, we show that $\sup_P\|P\|_{Δ^2}\leq\exp(Cn^2\log n)$. However, for $α$ in a subset ${\mathcal S}$ of the Liouville numbers, $\sup_P\|P\|_{Δ^2}$ has bigger order of growth. We give a precise characterization of the set ${\mathcal S}$ and study its properties.
