Protocol for generating an arbitrary quantum state of the magnetization in cavity magnonics

We propose and numerically evaluate a protocol to generate an arbitrary quantum state of the magnetization in a magnet. The protocol involves repeatedly exciting a frequency-tunable superconducting transmon and transferring the excitations to the magnet via a microwave cavity. To avoid decay, the protocol must be much shorter than magnon lifetime. Speeding up the protocol by simply shortening the pulses leads to non-resonant leakage of excitations to higher levels of the transmon accompanied by higher decoherence. We discuss how to correct for such leakages by applying counter pulses to de-excite these higher levels. In our protocol, states with a maximum magnon occupation of up to $\sim9$ and average magnon number up to $\sim4$ can be generated with fidelity $>0.75$.

Lorentz Invariant Quantum Concurrence for SU(2) x SU(2) spin-parity states

The quantum concurrence of $SU(2) \otimes SU(2)$ spin-parity states is shown to be invariant under $SO(1,3)$ Lorentz boosts and $O(3)$ rotations when the density matrices are constructed in consonance with the covariant probabilistic distribution of Dirac massive particles. Similar invariance properties are obtained for the quantum purity and for the trace of unipotent density matrix operators. The reported invariance features -- obtained in the scope of the $SU(2) \otimes SU(2)$ corresponding to just one of the inequivalent representations enclosed by the $SL(2,\mathbb{C})\otimes SL(2,\mathbb{C})$ symmetry -- set a more universal and kinematical-independent meaning for the quantum entanglement encoded in systems containing not only information about spin polarization but also the correlated information about intrinsic parity. Such a covariant framework is used for computing the Lorentz invariant spin-parity entanglement of spinorial particles coupled to a magnetic field, through which the extensions to more general Poincaré classes of spinor interactions are straightforwardly depicted.

Quantum nonlocality in extended theories of gravity

We investigate how pure-state Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen correlations in the internal degrees of freedom of massive particles are affected by a curved spacetime background described by extended theories of gravity. We consider models for which the corrections to the Einstein-Hilbert action are quadratic in the curvature invariants and we focus on the weak-field limit. We quantify nonlocal quantum correlations by means of the violation of the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt inequality, and show how a curved background suppresses the violation by a leading term due to general relativity and a further contribution due to the corrections to Einstein gravity. Our results can be generalized to massless particles such as photon pairs and can thus be suitably exploited to devise precise experimental tests of extended models of gravity.

Spin cat states in a ferromagnetic insulator

Generating non-classical states in macroscopic systems is a long standing challenge. A promising platform in the context of this quest are novel hybrid systems based on magnetic dielectrics, where photons can couple strongly and coherently to magnetic excitations, although a non-classical state therein is yet to be observed. We propose a scheme to generate a magnetization cat state, i.e. a quantum superposition of two distinct magnetization directions, using a conventional setup of a macroscopic ferromagnet in a microwave cavity. Our scheme uses the ground state of an ellipsoid shaped magnet, which displays anisotropic quantum fluctuations akin to a squeezed vacuum. The magnetization collapses to a cat state by either a single-photon or a parity measurement of the microwave cavity state. We find that a cat state with two components separated by $\sim5\hbar$ is feasible and briefly discuss potential experimental setups that can achieve it.

Entanglement of Dirac bi-spinor states driven by Poincaré classes of $\mbox{SU}(2) \otimes \mbox{SU}(2)$ coupling potentials

A generalized description of entanglement and quantum correlation properties constraining internal degrees of freedom of Dirac(-like) structures driven by arbitrary Poincaré classes of external field potentials is proposed. The role of (pseudo)scalar, (pseudo)vector and tensor interactions in producing/destroying intrinsic quantum correlations for $\mbox{SU}(2) \otimes \mbox{SU}(2)$ bi-spinor structures is discussed in terms of generic coupling constants. By using a suitable ansatz to obtain the Dirac Hamiltonian eigenspinor structure of time-independent solutions of the associated Liouville equation, the quantum entanglement, via concurrence, and quantum correlations, via geometric discord, are computed for several combinations of well-defined Poincaré classes of Dirac potentials. Besides its inherent formal structure, our results setup a framework which can be enlarged as to include localization effects and to map quantum correlation effects into Dirac-like systems which describe low-energy excitations of graphene and trapped ions.

Quantum transitions and quantum entanglement from Dirac-like dynamics simulated by trapped ions

Quantum transition probabilities and quantum entanglement for two-qubit states of a four level trapped ion quantum system are computed for time-evolving ionic states driven by Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonians with interactions mapped onto a $\mbox{SU}(2)\otimes \mbox{SU}(2)$ group structure. Using the correspondence of the method of simulating a $3+1$ dimensional Dirac-like Hamiltonian for bi-spinor particles into a single trapped ion, one preliminarily obtains the analytical tools for describing ionic state transition probabilities as a typical quantum oscillation feature. For Dirac-like structures driven by generalized Poincaré classes of coupling potentials, one also identifies the $\mbox{SU}(2)\otimes \mbox{SU}(2)$ internal degrees of freedom corresponding to intrinsic parity and spin polarization as an adaptive platform for computing the quantum entanglement between the internal quantum subsystems which define two-qubit ionic states. The obtained quantum correlational content is then translated into the quantum entanglement of two-qubit ionic states with quantum numbers related to the total angular momentum and to its projection onto the direction of the trapping magnetic field. Experimentally, the controllable parameters simulated by ion traps can be mapped into a Dirac-like system in the presence of an electrostatic field which, in this case, is associated to ionic carrier interactions. Besides exhibiting a complete analytical profile for ionic quantum transitions and quantum entanglement, our results indicate that carrier interactions actively drive an overall suppression of the quantum entanglement.

$SU(2) \otimes SU(2)$ bi-spinor structure entanglement induced by a step potential barrier scattering in two-dimensions

The entanglement between $SU(2) \otimes SU(2)$ internal degrees of freedom of parity and helicity for reflected and transmitted waves of Dirac-like particles scattered by a potential step along an arbitrary direction on the $x-y$ plane is quantified. Diffusion ($E \geq V$) and Klein zone ($V \geq E$) energy regimes are considered. It has been shown that, for $SU(2) \otimes SU(2)$ polarized structures of helicity eigenstates impinging the barrier, the local interaction with a {\em step} potential destroys the {\em parity-spin} separability. The framework presented here can be straightforwardly translated into a useful theoretical tool for obtaining the {\em spin-spin} entanglement in the context of enlarged scenarios of nonrelativistic $2D$ systems, as for instance those for describing single layer graphene, or even single trapped ions with Dirac bi-spinor mathematical structure.

Maximal correlation between flavor entanglement and oscillation damping due to localization effects

Localization effects and quantum decoherence driven by the mass-eigenstate wave packet propagation are shown to support a statistical correlation between quantum entanglement and damped oscillations in the scenario of three-flavor quantum mixing for neutrinos. Once the mass-eigenstates that support flavor oscillations are identified as three-{\em qubit} modes, a decoherence scale can be extracted from correlation quantifiers, namely the entanglement of formation and the logarithmic negativity. Such a decoherence scale is compared with the coherence length of damped oscillations. Damping signatures exhibited by flavor transition probabilities as an effective averaging of the oscillating terms are then explained as owing to loss of entanglement between mass modes involved in the relativistic propagation.

The C$ν$B energy density through the quantum measurement theory

We apply concepts from the quantum measurement theory to obtain some cosmological neutrino background (C$ν$B) properties and discuss their relevance in defining theoretical bounds on cosmological neutrino energy density. Describing three neutrino generations as a composite quantum system through the generalized theory of quantum measurement provides us with the probabilistic correlation between observable energies and neutrino flavor eigenstates. By observing that flavor-averaged and flavor-weighted energies are the quantum observables respectively generated by selective and non-selective quantum measurement schemes, it is possible to identify the constraints on the effective mass value expression that determines the neutrino contribution to the energy density of the cosmic inventory. Our results agree with the quantum mechanics viewpoint that asserts that the cosmological neutrino energy density is obtained from a coherent sum of mass eigenstate energies, for normal and inverted mass hierarchies.
