Radially bounded solutions of a $k$-Hessian equation involving a weighted nonlinear source

We consider the problem \begin{equation}(1)\;\;\; \begin{cases} S_k(D^2u)= λ|x|^σ (1-u)^q &\mbox{in }\;\; B,\\ u <0 & \mbox{in }\;\; B,\\ u=0 &\mbox{on }\partial B, \end{cases} \end{equation} where $B$ denotes the unit ball in $\mathbb{R}^n$, $n>2k$ ($k\in \mathbb{N}$), $λ>0$, $q > k$ and $σ\geq 0$. We study the existence, uniqueness and multiplicity of negative bounded radially symmetric solutions of (1). The methodology to obtain our results is based on a dynamical system approach. For this, we introduce a new transformation which reduces problem (1) to an autonomous two dimensional generalized Lotka-Volterra system.

Stability, instability, and blowup for time fractional and other non-local in time semilinear subdiffusion equations

We consider non-local in time semilinear subdiffusion equations on a bounded domain, where the kernel in the integro-differential operator belongs to a large class, which covers many relevant cases from physics applications, in particular the important case of fractional dynamics. The elliptic operator in the equation is given in divergence form with bounded measurable coefficients. We prove a well-posedness result in the setting of bounded weak solutions and study the stability and instability of the zero function in the special case where the nonlinearity vanishes at 0. We also establish a blowup result for positive convex and superlinear nonlinearities.

Bounded solutions of a $k$-Hessian equation in a ball

We consider the problem \begin{equation}\label{Eq:Abstract} (1)\;\;\;\begin{cases} S_k(D^2u)= λ(1-u)^q &\mbox{in }\;\; B,\\ u <0 & \mbox{in }\;\; B,\\ u=0 &\mbox{on }\partial B, \end{cases} \end{equation} where $B$ denotes the unit ball in $\mathbb{R}^n$, $n>2k$ ($k\in \mathbb{N}$), $λ>0$ and $q > k$. We study the existence of negative bounded radially symmetric solutions of (1). In the critical case, that is when $q$ equals Tso's critical exponent $q=\frac{(n+2)k}{n-2k}=:q^*(k)$, we obtain exactly either one or two solutions depending on the parameters. Further, we express such solutions explicitly in terms of Bliss functions. The supercritical case is analysed following the ideas develop by Joseph and Lundgren in their classical work [27]. In particular, we establish an Emden-Fowler transformation which seems to be new in the context of the $k$-Hessian operator. We also find a critical exponent, defined by \begin{equation*} q_{JL}(k)= \begin{cases} k\frac{(k+1)n-2(k-1)-2\sqrt{2[(k+1)n-2k]}}{(k+1)n-2k(k+3)-2\sqrt{2[(k+1)n-2k]}}, & n>2k+8,\\ \infty, & 2k < n \leq 2k+8, \end{cases} \end{equation*} which allows us to determinate the multiplicity of the solutions to (1) int the two cases $q^*(k)\leq q < q_{JL}(k)$ and $q\geq q_{JL}(k)$. Moreover, we point out that, for $k=1$, the exponent $q_{JL}(k)$ coincides with the classical Joseph-Lundgren exponent.

Decay estimates for time-fractional and other non-local in time subdiffusion equations in $\mathbb{R}^d$

We prove optimal estimates for the decay in time of solutions to a rather general class of non-local in time subdiffusion equations in $\mathbb{R}^d$. An important special case is the time-fractional diffusion equation, which has seen much interest during the last years, mostly due to its applications in the modeling of anomalous diffusion processes. We follow three different approaches and techniques to study this particular case: (A) estimates based on the fundamental solution and Young's inequality, (B) Fourier multiplier methods, and (C) the energy method. It turns out that the decay behaviour is markedly different from the heat equation case, in particular there occurs a {\em critical dimension phenomenon}. The general subdiffusion case is treated by method (B) and relies on a careful estimation of the underlying relaxation function. Several examples of kernels, including the ultraslow diffusion case, illustrate our results.

Optimal decay estimates for time-fractional and other non-local subdiffusion equations via energy methods

We prove sharp estimates for the decay in time of solutions to a rather general class of non-local in time subdiffusion equations on a bounded domain subject to a homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition. Important special cases are the time-fractional and ultraslow diffusion equation, which have seen much interest during the last years, mostly due to their applications in the modeling of anomalous diffusion. We study the case where the equation is in divergence form with bounded measurable coefficients. Our proofs rely on energy estimates and make use of a new and powerful inequality for integro-differential operators of the form $\partial_t (k\ast \cdot)$. The results can be generalized to certain quasilinear equations. We illustrate this by looking at the time-fractional $p$-Laplace and porous medium equation. Here it turns out that the decay behaviour is markedly different from that in the classical parabolic case.

A priori bounds for degenerate and singular evolutionary partial integro-differential equations

We study quasilinear evolutionary partial integro-differential equations of second order which include time fractional $p$-Laplace equations of time order less than one. By means of suitable energy estimates and De Giorgi's iteration technique we establish results asserting the global boundedness of appropriately defined weak solutions of these problems. We also show that a maximum principle is valid for such equations.
