The sharp second order Caffareli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequality and stability estimates for the sharp second order uncertainty principle

In this paper we prove a class of second order Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities which contains the sharp second order uncertainty principle recently established by Cazacu, Flynn and Lam \cite{CFL2020} as a special case. We also show the sharpness of our inequalities for several classes of parameters. Finally, we prove two stability versions of the sharp second order uncertainty principle of Cazacu, Flynn and Lam by showing that the difference of both sides of the inequality controls the distance to the set of extremal functions in $L^2$ norm of gradient of functions.

Extremals for the Singular Moser-Trudinger Inequality via n-Harmonic Transplantation

The Moser-Trudinger embedding has been generalized in [Adimurthi A.; Sandeep K., A singular Moser-Trudinger embedding and its applications, \textit{NoDEA Nonlinear Differential Equations Appl.}, 13 (2007), no. 5-6, 585--603] to the following weighted version: if $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^n$ is bounded, $ω_{n-1}$ is the $\mathcal{H}^{n-1}$ measure of the unit sphere, then for $α>0$ and $β\in [0,n)$, $$ \sup_{u\in\mathcal{B}_1}\int_Ω\frac{e^{α|u|^{n/(n-1)}}}{|x|^β}\leq C \ \Leftrightarrow \ \fracα{α_n}+\fracβ{n}\leq1,\qquad $$ where $α_n=n\cnn$ and $\mathcal{B}_1 = \left\{ u \in W_0^{1, n}(Ω) \ | \ \int_Ω |\nabla u |^n \leq1 \right\}$. We prove that the supremum is attained on any domain $Ω$. The paper also fills in the gaps in the proof of [Lin K.C., Extremal functions for Moser's inequality, \textit{Trans. of. Am. Math. Soc.}, 384 (1996), 2663--2671], which deals with the case $β=0.$

Liouville type theorems for fractional elliptic problems

In this paper, we establish Liouville type theorems for stable solutions on the whole space $\mathbb R^N$ to the fractional elliptic equation $$(-Δ)^su=f(u)$$ where the nonlinearity is nondecreasing and convex. We also obtain a classification of stable solutions to the fractional Lane-Emden system $$\begin{cases} (-Δ)^s u = v^p \mbox{ in }\mathbb R^N (-Δ)^s v = u^q \mbox{ in }\mathbb R^N \end{cases}$$ with $p>1$ and $ q>1$. In our knowledge, this is the first classification result for stable solutions of the fractional Lane-Emden system in literature.

The sharp Adams type inequalities in the hyperbolic spaces under the Lorentz-Sobolev norms

Let $2\leq m < n$ and $q \in (1,\infty)$, we denote by $W^mL^{\frac nm,q}(\mathbb H^n)$ the Lorentz-Sobolev space of order $m$ in the hyperbolic space $\mathbb H^n$. In this paper, we establish the following Adams inequality in the Lorentz-Sobolev space $W^m L^{\frac nm,q}(\mathbb H^n)$ \[ \sup_{u\in W^mL^{\frac nm,q}(\mathbb H^n),\, \|\nabla_g^m u\|_{\frac nm,q}\leq 1} \int_{\mathbb H^n} Φ_{\frac nm,q}\big(β_{n,m}^{\frac q{q-1}} |u|^{\frac q{q-1}}\big) dV_g < \infty \] for $q \in (1,\infty)$ if $m$ is even, and $q \in (1,n/m)$ if $m$ is odd, where $β_{n,m}^{q/(q-1)}$ is the sharp exponent in the Adams inequality under Lorentz-Sobolev norm in the Euclidean space. To our knowledge, much less is known about the Adams inequality under the Lorentz-Sobolev norm in the hyperbolic spaces. We also prove an improved Adams inequality under the Lorentz-Sobolev norm provided that $q\geq 2n/(n-1)$ if $m$ is even and $2n/(n-1) \leq q \leq \frac nm$ if $m$ is odd, \[ \sup_{u\in W^mL^{\frac nm,q}(\mathbb H^n),\, \|\nabla_g^m u\|_{\frac nm,q}^q -λ\|u\|_{\frac nm,q}^q \leq 1} \int_{\mathbb H^n} Φ_{\frac nm,q}\big(β_{n,m}^{\frac q{q-1}} |u|^{\frac q{q-1}}\big) dV_g < \infty \] for any $0< λ< C(n,m,n/m)^q$ where $C(n,m,n/m)^q$ is the sharp constant in the Lorentz-Poincaré inequality. Finally, we establish a Hardy-Adams inequality in the unit ball when $m\geq 3$, $n\geq 2m+1$ and $q \geq 2n/(n-1)$ if $m$ is even and $2n/(n-1) \leq q \leq n/m$ if $m$ is odd \[ \sup_{u\in W^mL^{\frac nm,q}(\mathbb H^n),\, \|\nabla_g^m u\|_{\frac nm,q}^q -C(n,m,\frac nm)^q \|u\|_{\frac nm,q}^q \leq 1} \int_{\mathbb B^n} \exp\big(β_{n,m}^{\frac q{q-1}} |u|^{\frac q{q-1}}\big) dx < \infty. \]

The sharp higher order Lorentz--Poincaré and Lorentz--Sobolev inequalities in the hyperbolic spaces

In this paper, we study the sharp Poincaré inequality and the Sobolev inequalities in the higher order Lorentz--Sobolev spaces in the hyperbolic spaces. These results generalize the ones obtained in \cite{Nguyen2020a} to the higher order derivatives and seem to be new in the context of the Lorentz--Sobolev spaces defined in the hyperbolic spaces.

The sharp Sobolev type inequalities in the Lorentz--Sobolev spaces in the hyperbolic spaces

Let $W^1L^{p,q}(\mathbb H^n)$, $1\leq q,p < \infty$ denote the Lorentz-Sobolev spaces of order one in the hyperbolic spaces $\mathbb H^n$. Our aim in this paper is three-fold. First of all, we establish a sharp Poincaré inequality in $W^1L^{p,q}(\mathbb H^n)$ with $1\leq q \leq p$ which generalizes the result in \cite{NgoNguyenAMV} to the setting of Lorentz-Sobolev spaces. Second, we prove several sharp Poincaré-Sobolev type inequalities in $W^1L^{p,q}(\mathbb H^n)$ with $1\leq q \leq p < n$ which generalize the results in \cite{NguyenPS2018} to the setting of Lorentz-Sobolev spaces. Finally, we provide the improved Moser-Trudinger type inequalities in $W^1L^{n,q}(\mathbb{H}^n)$ in the critical case $p= n$ with $1\leq q \leq n$ which generalize the results in \cite{NguyenMT2018} and improve the results in \cite{YangLi2019}. In the proof of the main results, we shall prove a Pólya--Szegö type principle in $W^1 L^{p,q}(\mathbb H^n)$ with $1\leq q \leq p$ which maybe is of independent interest.

A supercritical Sobolev type inequality in higher order Sobolev spaces and related higher order elliptic problems

A Sobolev type embedding for radially symmetric functions on the unit ball $B$ in $\mathbb R^n$, $n\geq 3$, into the variable exponent Lebesgue space $L_{2^\star + |x|^α} (B)$, $2^\star = 2n/(n-2)$, $α>0$, is known due to J.M. do Ó, B. Ruf, and P. Ubilla, namely, the inequality \[ \sup\Big\{\int_B |u(x)|^{2^\star+|x|^α} dx : u\in H^1_{0,{\rm rad}}(B), \|\nabla u\|_{L^2(B)} =1\Big\} < +\infty \] holds. In this work, we generalize the above inequality for higher order Sobolev spaces of radially symmetric functions on $B$, namely, the embedding \[ H^m_{0,{\rm rad}}(B) \hookrightarrow L_{2_m^\star + |x|^α} (B) \] with $2\leq m < n/2$, $2_m^* = 2n/(n-2m)$, and $α>0$ holds. Questions concerning the sharp constant for the inequality including the existence of the optimal functions are also studied. To illustrate the finding, an application to a boundary value problem on balls driven by polyharmonic operators is presented. This is the first in a set of our works concerning functional inequalities in the supercritical regime.

Supercritical Moser-Trudinger inequalities and related elliptic problems

Given $α>0$, we establish the following two supercritical Moser-Trudinger inequalities \[ \sup\limits_{u \in W^{1,n}_{0,{\rm rad}}(B): \int_B |\nabla u|^n dx \leq 1} \int_B \exp\big( (α_n + |x|^α) |u|^{\frac{n}{n-1}} \big) dx < +\infty \] and \[ \sup\limits_{u\in W^{1,n}_{0,{\rm rad}}(B): \int_B |\nabla u|^n dx \leq 1} \int_B \exp\big( α_n |u|^{\frac{n}{n-1} + |x|^α} \big) dx < +\infty, \] where $W^{1,n}_{0,{\rm rad}}(B)$ is the usual Sobolev spaces of radially symmetric functions on $B$ in $\mathbb R^n$ with $n\geq 2$. Without restricting to the class of functions $W^{1,n}_{0,{\rm rad}}(B)$, we should emphasize that the above inequalities fail in $W^{1,n}_{0,{\rm rad}}(B)$. Questions concerning the sharpness of the above inequalities as well as the existence of the optimal functions are also studied. To illustrate the finding, an application to a class of boundary value problems on balls is presented. This is the second part in a set of our works concerning functional inequalities in the supercritical regime.

Higher order Sobolev trace inequalities on balls revisited

Inspired by a recent sharp Sobolev trace inequality of order four on the balls $\mathbb B^{n+1}$ found by Ache and Chang [AC15], we propose a slightly different approach to reprove Ache-Chang's trace inequality. To illustrate this approach, we reprove the classical Sobolev trace inequality of order two on $\mathbb B^{n+1}$ and provide sharp Sobolev trace inequalities of orders six and eight on $\mathbb B^{n+1}$. As the limiting case of the Sobolev trace inequality, a Lebedev-Milin type inequality of order up to eight is also considered.

An improvement for the sharp Adams inequalities in bounded domains and whole space $\mathbb{R}^n$

We prove an improvement for the sharp Adams inequality in $W^{m,\frac nm}_0(Ω)$ where $Ω$ is a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^n$ inspired by Lions Concentration--Compactness principle for the sharp Moser--Trudinger inequality. Our method gives an alternative approach to a Concentration--Compactness principle in $W^{m,\frac nm}_0(Ω)$ recently established by do Ó and Macedo. Moreover, when $m$ is odd, we obtain an improvement for their result by finding the best exponent in this principle. Our approach also is successfully applied to whole space $\mathbb{R}^n$ to establish an improvement for the sharp Adams inequalities in $W^{m,\frac nm}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ due to Ruf, Sani, Lam, Lu, Fontana and Morpurgo. This type of improvement is still unknown, in general, except the special case $m=1$ due to do Ó, de Souza, de Medeiros and Severo. Our method is a further development for the method of $\check{\rm C}$erny, Cianchi and Hencl combining with some estimates for the decreasing rearrangement of a function in terms of the one of its higher order derivatives.

New approach to the affine Pólya-Szegö principle and the stability version of the affine Sobolev inequality

Inspired by a recent work of Haddad, Jiménez and Montenegro, we give a new and simple approach to the recently established general affine Pólya-Szegö principle. Our approach is based on the general $L_p$ Busemann-Petty centroid inequality and does not rely on the general $L_p$ Petty projection inequality or the solution of the $L_p$ Minkowski problem. A Brothers-Ziemer-type result for the general affine Pólya-Szegö principle is also established. As applications, we reprove some sharp affine Sobolev-type inequalities and settle their equality conditions. We also prove a stability estimate for the affine Sobolev inequality on functions of bounded variation by using our new approach. As a corollary of this stability result, we deduce a stability estimate for the affine logarithmic--Sobolev inequality.

Some trace Hardy type inequalities and trace Hardy-Sobolev-Maz'ya type inequalities

We prove a trace Hardy type inequality with the best constant on the polyhedral convex cones which generalizes recent results of Alvino et al. and of Tzirakis on the upper half space. We also prove some trace Hardy-Sobolev-Maz'ya type inequalities which generalize the recent results of Filippas et al.. In applications, we derive some Hardy type inequalities and Hardy-Sobolev-Maz'ya type inequalities for fractional Laplacian. Finally, we prove the logarithmic Sobolev trace inequalities and logarithmic Hardy trace inequalities on the upper half spaces. The best constants in these inequalities are explicitly computed in the radial case.

Sharp weighted Sobolev and Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequalities on half space via mass transport and consequences

By adapting the mass transportation technique of Cordero-Erausquin, Nazaret and Villani, we obtain a family of sharp Sobolev and Gagliardo-Nirenberg (GN) inequalities on the half space $\mathbf{R}^{n-1}\times\mathbf{R}_+$, $n\geq 1$ equipped with the weight $ω(x) = x_n^a$, $a\geq 0$. It amounts to work with the fractional dimension $n_a = n+a$. The extremal functions in the weighted Sobolev inequalities are fully characterized. Using a dimension reduction argument and the weighted Sobolev inequalities, we can reproduce a subfamily of the sharp GN inequalities on the Euclidean space due to Del Pino and Dolbeault, and obtain some new sharp GN inequalities as well. Our weighted inequalities are also extended to the domain $\mathbf{R}^{n-m}\times \mathbf{R}^m_+$ and the weights are $ω(x,t) = t_1^{a_1}\dots t_m^{a_m}$, where $n\geq m$, $m\geq 0$ and $a_1,\cdots,a_m\geq 0$. A weighted $L^p$-logarithmic Sobolev inequality is derived from these inequalities.

A local proof of the dimensional Prékopa's theorem

The aim of this paper is to find an expression for second derivative of the function $ϕ(t)$ defined by $$ϕ(t) = \lt(\int_V \vphi(t,x)^{-β} dx\rt)^{-\frac1{\be -n}},\qquad β\not= n,$$ where $U\subset \R$ and $V\subset \R^n$ are open bounded subsets, and $\vphi: U\times V\to \R_+$ is a $C^2-$smooth function. As a consequence, this result gives us a direct proof of the dimensional Prékopa's theorem based on a local approach.

Fractional Sobolev and Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequalities

This work focuses on an improved fractional Sobolev inequality with a remainder term involving the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality which has been proved recently. By extending a recent result on the standard Laplacian to the fractional case, we offer a new, simpler proof and provide new estimates on the best constant involved. Using endpoint differentiation, we also obtain an improved version of a Moser-Trudinger-Onofri type inequality on the sphere. As an immediate consequence, we derive an improved version of the Onofri inequality on the Euclidean space using the stereographic projection.

Dimensional variance inequalities of Brascamp-Lieb type and a local approach to dimensional Prékopa's theorem

We give a new approach, inspired by Hörmander's $L^2$-method, to weighted variance inequalities which extend results obtained by Bobkov and Ledoux. It provides in particular a local proof of the dimensional functional forms of the Brunn-Minkowski inequalities. We also present several applications of these variance inequalities, including reverse Hölder inequalities for convex functions, weighted Brascamp-Lieb inequalities and sharp weighted Poincaré inequalities for generalized Cauchy measures.

Entropy jumps for isotropic log-concave random vectors and spectral gap

We prove a quantitative dimension-free bound in the Shannon-Stam Entropy inequality for the convolution of two log-concave distributions in dimension d interms of the spectral gap of the density. The method relies on the analysis of the Fisher Information production, which is the second derivative of the Entropy along the (normalized) Heat semi-group. We also discuss consequences of our result in the study of the isotropic constant of log-concave distributions (slicing problem).
