On detection of narrow angle e+e- pairs from dark photon decays

A class of models of dark sectors consider new very weak interaction between the ordinary and dark matter transmitted by U'(1) gauge bosons A' (dark photons) mixing with our photons. If such A's exist, they could be searched for in a light-shining-through-a-wall experiment with a high energy electron beam from the CERN SPS. The proposed search scheme suggests detection of the e+e- pairs produced in the A' -> e+e- decay with a very small opening angle. Coordinate chambers based on the thin-wall drift tubes with a minimal material budget and a two-hit resolution for e+ and e- tracks separated by more than 0.5 mm are considered as an option for detecting such pairs.

A direct time measurements technique for the two-dimensional precision coordinate detectors based on thin-walled drift tubes

This article presents the results of a study of the longitudinal spatial resolution of 2 m long straw tubes by means of the direct timing method (DTM). The feasibility of achieving a coordinate resolution (r.m.s.) better than 2 cm over full length of the straw is demonstrated. The spatial resolution insignificantly changes when measured by detecting gammas from a Fe-55 gamma ray source or minimum ionizing particles from a Ru-106 source. The use of the same type of FEE for data taking both for measuring the drift time of ionization electrons and propagation of a signal along the anode wire allows one to construct a two-dimensional detector for precision coordinate measurements.

Neutral pion number fluctuations at high multiplicity in pp-interactions at 50 GeV

Neutral pion number N0 distributions for each total number of particles in event Ntot=Nch+N0 are obtained. The scaled variance of neutral pion fluctuations, omega=D/<N0>, is measured. The fluctuations increase at Ntot >22. According to quantum statistics models it may indicate for the approaching to pion condensate conditions for high pion multiplicity in the system.

Proton interactions with high multiplicity

Project Thermalization (Experiment SERP-E-190 at IHEP) is aimed to study the proton - proton interactions at 50 GeV with large number of secondary particles. In this report the experimentally measured topological cross sections are presented taking into account the detector response and procession efficiency. These data are in good agreement with gluon dominance model. The comparison with other models is also made and shows no essential discrepancies.
