Heptagon Amplitude in the Multi-Regge Regime

As we have shown in previous work, the high energy limit of scattering amplitudes in N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory corresponds to the infrared limit of the 1-dimensional quantum integrable system that solves minimal area problems in AdS5. This insight can be developed into a systematic algorithm to compute the strong coupling limit of amplitudes in the multi-Regge regime through the solution of auxiliary Bethe Ansatz equations. We apply this procedure to compute the scattering amplitude for n=7 external gluons in different multi-Regge regions at infinite 't Hooft coupling. Our formulas are remarkably consistent with the expected form of 7-gluon Regge cut contributions in perturbative gauge theory. A full description of the general algorithm and a derivation of results will be given in a forthcoming paper.

The Bethe Roots of Regge Cuts in Strongly Coupled N=4 SYM Theory

We describe a general algorithm for the computation of the remainder function for n-gluon scattering in multi-Regge kinematics for strongly coupled planar N=4 super Yang-Mills theory. This regime is accessible through the infrared physics of an auxiliary quantum integrable system describing strings in AdS5xS5. Explicit formulas are presented for n=6 and n=7 external gluons. Our results are consistent with expectations from perturbative gauge theory. This paper comprises the technical details for the results announced in arXiv:1405.3658 .

The Excited Hexagon Reloaded

This work revisits the computation of six-gluon scattering amplitudes in the high energy limit of strongly coupled N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. It is based on previous studies in which we showed that the amplitude simplifies in the Regge regime and outlined an efficient computational scheme. By exploiting a symmetry of the underlying equations we are now able to argue that a term we had seen in preliminary numerical studies must vanish identically. The derived formula for the Regge limit of the 6-gluon scattering amplitude at strong coupling differs from the one we had conjectured previously.

Multi-Regge Limit of the n-Gluon Bubble Ansatz

We investigate n-gluon scattering amplitudes in the multi-Regge region of N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory at strong coupling. Through a careful analysis of the thermodynamic bubble ansatz (TBA) for surfaces in AdS5 with n-g(lu)on boundary conditions we demonstrate that the multi-Regge limit probes the large volume regime of the TBA. In reaching the multi-Regge regime we encounter wall-crossing in the TBA for all n>6. Our results imply that there exists an auxiliary system of algebraic Bethe ansatz equations which encode valuable information on the analytical structure of amplitudes at strong coupling.

Excited Hexagon Wilson Loops for Strongly Coupled N=4 SYM

This work is devoted to the six-gluon scattering amplitude in strongly coupled N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. At weak coupling, an appropriate high energy limit of the so-called remainder function, i.e. of the deviation from the BDS formula, may be understood in terms of the lowest eigenvalue of the BFKL hamiltonian. According to Alday et al., amplitudes in the strongly coupled theory can be constructed through an auxiliary 1-dimensional quantum system. We argue that certain excitations of this quantum system determine the Regge limit of the remainder function at strong coupling and we compute its precise value.

R-current six-point correlators in AdS_5 Supergravity

Within the conjectured duality between N=4 super Yang-Mills and Anti-deSitter string theory, the BFKL Pomeron of the gauge theory corresponds to the graviton mode of the dual string. As a first step towards analyzing multigraviton exchange, we investigate R-current six-point functions within the supergravity approximation. We compute the analogue of diffractive scattering, and we analyze the triple Regge limit. In the supergravity approximation the triple graviton vertex is found to vanish.

Branes in the Euclidean AdS_3

In this work we propose an exact microscopic description of maximally symmetric branes in a Euclidean $AdS_3$ background. As shown by Bachas and Petropoulos, the most important such branes are localized along a Euclidean $AdS_2 \subset AdS_3$. We provide explicit formulas for the coupling of closed strings to such branes (boundary states) and for the spectral density of open strings. The latter is computed in two different ways first in terms of the open string reflection amplitude and then also from the boundary states by world-sheet duality. This gives rise to an important Cardy type consistency check. All the results are compared in detail with the geometrical picture. We also discuss a second class of branes with spherical symmetry and finally comment on some implications for D-branes in a 2D back hole geometry.

Brane Dynamics in Background Fluxes and Non-commutative Geometry

Branes in non-trivial backgrounds are expected to exhibit interesting dynamical properties. We use the boundary conformal field theory approach to study branes in a curved background with non-vanishing Neveu-Schwarz 3-form field strength. For branes on an $S^3$, the low-energy effective action is computed to leading order in the string tension. It turns out to be a field theory on a non-commutative `fuzzy 2-sphere' which consists of a Yang-Mills and a Chern-Simons term. We find a certain set of classical solutions that have no analogue for flat branes in Euclidean space. These solutions show, in particular, how a spherical brane can arise as bound state from a stack of D0-branes.

Closed constraint algebras and path integrals for loop group actions

In this note we study systems with a closed algebra of second class constraints. We describe a construction of the reduced theory that resembles the conventional treatment of first class constraints. It suggests, in particular, to compute the symplectic form on the reduced space by a fiber integral of the symplectic form on the original space. This approach is then applied to a class of systems with loop group symmetry. The chiral anomaly of the loop group action spoils the first class character of the constraints but not their closure. Proceeding along the general lines described above, we obtain a 2-form from a fiber (path)integral. This form is not closed as a relict of the anomaly. Examples of such reduced spaces are provided by D-branes on group manifolds with WZW action.

Non-commutative World-volume Geometries: Branes on SU(2) and Fuzzy Spheres

The geometry of D-branes can be probed by open string scattering. If the background carries a non-vanishing B-field, the world-volume becomes non-commutative. Here we explore the quantization of world-volume geometries in a curved background with non-zero Neveu-Schwarz 3-form field strength H = dB. Using exact and generally applicable methods from boundary conformal field theory, we study the example of open strings in the SU(2) Wess-Zumino-Witten model, and establish a relation with fuzzy spheres or certain (non-associative) deformations thereof. These findings could be of direct relevance for D-branes in the presence of Neveu-Schwarz 5-branes; more importantly, they provide insight into a completely new class of world-volume geometries.

D-branes in Gepner models

We discuss D-branes from a conformal field theory point of view. In this approach, branes are described by boundary states providing sources for closed string modes, independently of classical notions. The boundary states must satisfy constraints which fall into two classes: The first consists of gluing conditions between left- and right-moving Virasoro or further symmetry generators, whereas the second encompasses non-linear consistency conditions from world sheet duality, which severely restrict the allowed boundary states. We exploit these conditions to give explicit formulas for boundary states in Gepner models, thereby computing excitation spectra of brane configurations. From the boundary states, brane tensions and RR charges can also be read off directly.

Representation Theory of Lattice Current Algebras

Lattice current algebras were introduced as a regularization of the left- and right moving degrees of freedom in the WZNW model. They provide examples of lattice theories with a local quantum symmetry $U_q(\sg)$. Their representation theory is studied in detail. In particular, we construct all irreducible representations along with a lattice analogue of the fusion product for representations of the lattice current algebra. It is shown that for an arbitrary number of lattice sites, the representation categories of the lattice current algebras agree with their continuum counterparts.

Combinatorial Quantization of the Hamiltonian Chern-Simons Theory II

This paper further develops the combinatorial approach to quantization of the Hamiltonian Chern Simons theory advertised in \cite{AGS}. Using the theory of quantum Wilson lines, we show how the Verlinde algebra appears within the context of quantum group gauge theory. This allows to discuss flatness of quantum connections so that we can give a mathe- matically rigorous definition of the algebra of observables $\A_{CS}$ of the Chern Simons model. It is a *-algebra of ``functions on the quantum moduli space of flat connections'' and comes equipped with a positive functional $ω$ (``integration''). We prove that this data does not depend on the particular choices which have been made in the construction. Following ideas of Fock and Rosly \cite{FoRo}, the algebra $\A_{CS}$ provides a deformation quantization of the algebra of functions on the moduli space along the natural Poisson bracket induced by the Chern Simons action. We evaluate a volume of the quantized moduli space and prove that it coincides with the Verlinde number. This answer is also interpreted as a partition partition function of the lattice Yang-Mills theory corresponding to a quantum gauge group.
