Thermodynamics and statistical physics of quasiparticles within the quark-gluon plasma model

We consider thermodynamic properties of a quark-gluon plasma related to quasiparticles having the internal structure. For this purpose, we employ a possible analogy between quantum chromodynamics and non-Abelian Proca-Dirac-Higgs theory. The influence of characteristic sizes of the quasiparticles on such thermodynamic properties of the quark-gluon plasma like the internal energy and pressure is studied. Sizes of the quasiparticles are taken into account in the spirit of the van der Waals equation but we take into consideration that the quasiparticles have different sizes, and the average value of these sizes depends on temperature. It is shown that this results in a change in the internal energy and pressure of the quark-gluon plasma. Also, we show that, when the temperature increases, the average value of characteristic sizes of the quasiparticles increases as well. This leads to the occurrence of a phase transition at the temperature at which the volume occupied by the quasiparticles is compared with the volume occupied by the plasma.

Codimension-1 thick brane solutions in higher-dimensional $R^n$ gravity

Vacuum plane symmetric solutions within $αR^n$ modified gravity are obtained. The solutions can be regarded as describing thick branes with codimension 1 in a higher-dimensional spacetime. The dependence of the solutions on the values of four free parameters of the system under consideration is studied numerically. It is shown that when the parameter $α$ increases, the solutions tend to saturation. We also show that in all cases under consideration the spacetime is asymptotically anti-de Sitter one.

Quantum torsion with non-zero standard deviation: non-perturbative approach for cosmology

Cosmology with non-perturbative quantum corrections resulting from torsion is considered. It is shown that the evolution of closed, open and flat Universes is changed because of the presence of a non-zero dispersion of quantum torsion. The evolution of a Universe with quantum torsion and with one type of average curvature can be similar to the evolution of a Universe without quantum torsion and with another type of average curvature. For the description of the non-perturbative quantum torsion, a vector field approximation is applied.

A Star Harbouring a Wormhole at its Core

We consider a configuration consisting of a wormhole filled by a perfect fluid. Such a model can be applied to describe stars as well as neutron stars with a nontrivial topology. The presence of a tunnel allows for motion of the fluid, including oscillations near the core of the system. Choosing the polytropic equation of state for the perfect fluid, we obtain static regular solutions. Based on these solutions, we consider small radial oscillations of the configuration and show that the solutions are stable with respect to linear perturbations in the external region.

Chameleon stars

We consider a gravitating spherically symmetric configuration consisting of a scalar field non-minimally coupled to ordinary matter in the form of a perfect fluid. For this system we find static, regular, asymptotically flat solutions for both relativistic and non-relativistic cases. It is shown that the presence of the non-minimal interaction leads to substantial changes both in the radial matter distribution of the star and in the star's total mass. A simple stability test indicates that, for the choice of parameters used in the paper, the solutions are unstable.

Nonassociative quantum theory, emergent probability, and coquasigroup symmetry

This paper follows recent steps towards a nonassociative quantum theory and points out the mathematical structure behind the proposed modifications to conventional quantum theory. An N=1 supersymmetry model and a strong force glueball ansatz is highlighted. Using nonassociative complex octonion algebra, it is shown how the Lorentz Lie algebra can be understood as a four dimensional generalization of the algebra of spin-1/2 operators in physics. Probability is speculated to become an emergent phenomenon from some nonassociative geometry in which to better understand the fluxes involved. A prototype nonassociative quantum theory in one dimension is brought forward to illustrate how normed division algebras may aid in modeling isospin properties that are similar to observed field and particle symmetries in nature. This prototype is built from a principle of self-duality between types of active and passive transformations and supplied with a modified Born rule that models observation, similar to conventional quantum mechanics. Solutions on the complex numbers, quaternions and octonions are discussed. The Hopf coquasigroup structure of the octonionic eigenvalue relation is shown and advertised as a tool for future investigation into the complete solution set of the model.

Qualitative analysis of the eigenvalue problem for two coupled Ginzburg-Landau equations

Eigenvalue problem for two coupled Ginzburg-Landau equations is numerically investigated. The fixed points of corresponding equations system are found. The classification of these points is made. The phase portraits of corresponding ordinary differential equations and the dependence of some parameters of the equations system and the total energy on the initial values are given.

Classical gauge field as a dark matter

The model of dark matter is presented where the dark matter is a \emph{classical} gauge field. A spherical symmetric solution of Yang-Mills equation is obtained. The asymptotic behavior of the gauge fields and matter density is investigated. It is shown that the distribution of the matter density allows us interpret it as the dark matter. The fitting of a typical rotational curve with the rotational curve created by the spherical solution of SU(3) Yang-Mills equation is made.

On the self-similar motion of a gravitating Chaplygin fluid

A self-similar motion of the generalized Chaplygin gas in its own gravitational field is considered. The problem is being studied numerically and analytically (in the limiting cases). It is shown that the model under consideration admits only expanding solutions. As the astrophysical application of the model, a description of rotating curves of spiral galaxies is suggested by using the analytical solutions obtained in the paper.

Phantom "renormalization" of mass of a quantized electric charge

A regular wormhole solution in gravity coupled with a phantom scalar and electromagnetic fields is found. The solution exists for a special choice of the parameter $f$ of the potential term. The mass $m$ of a wormhole filled with a phantom and electrostatic fields is calculated. It is shown that close to some point $f_0$ a small value of the mass $m$ is the remainder of two big masses of the phantom and electrostatic fields. The connection with the renormalization procedure in quantum filed theory is considered. The connection between Wheeler's idea ``mass without mass'' and renormalization procedure in quantum field theory is discussed.

Some thick brane solutions in $f(R)$-gravity

The thick brane model is considered in $f(R)\sim R^n$ gravity. It is shown that regular asymptotically anti-de Sitter solutions exist in some range of values of the parameter $n$. A peculiar feature of this model is the existence of a fixed point in the phase plane where all solutions start, and the brane can be placed at this point. The presence of the fixed point allows to avoid fine tuning of the model parameters to obtain thick brane solutions.

Topology change in quantum gravity and Ricci flows

The topology change in quantum gravity is modeled by a Ricci flow. In this approach we offer to consider the Ricci flow as a statistical system. The metric in the Ricci flow enumerated by a parameter $λ$ is a microscopical statistical state. The probability of every microscopical state is determined by the parameter $λ$. Numerically the Ricci flow starting from a static wormhole filled with a phantom Sine-Gordon scalar field is investigated.

$Δ-$string - a hybrid between wormhole and string

The flux tube solutions in 5D Kaluza-Klein theory can be considered as a string-like object - $Δ-$string. The initial 5D metric can be reduced to some inner degrees of freedom living on the $Δ-$string. The propagation of electromagnetic waves through the $Δ-$string is considered. It is shown that the difference between $Δ$ and ordinary strings are connected with the fact that for the $Δ-$string such limitations as critical dimensions are missing.

Monopoles in Lattice QCD with Abelian Projection as Quantum Monopoles

Within the context of the Abelian Projection of QCD monopole-like quantum excitations of gauge fields are studied. We start with certain classical solutions, of the SU(2) Yang-Mills field equations, which are not monopole-like and whose energy density diverges as $r \to \infty$. These divergent classical solutions are then quantized using a modified version of Heisenberg's quantization technique for strongly interacting, nonlinear fields. The modified Heisenberg quantization technique leads to a system of equations with mixed quantum and classical degrees of freedom. By applying a Feynman path integration over the quantum degrees of freedom the quantum-averaged solution gives a nondivergent, monopole-like configuration after Abelian Projection.

Algorithmic Complexity in Cosmology and Quantum Gravity

In this article we use the idea of algorithmic complexity (AC) to study various cosmological scenarios, and as a means of quantizing the gravitational interaction. We look at 5D and 7D cosmological models where the Universe begins as a higher dimensional Planck size spacetime which fluctuates between Euclidean and Lorentzian signatures. These fluctuations are governed by the AC of the two different signatures. At some point a transition to a 4D Lorentzian signature Universe occurs, with the extra dimensions becoming ``frozen'' or non-dynamical. We also apply the idea of algorithmic complexity to study composite wormholes, the entropy of blackholes, and the path integral for quantum gravity.

Experimental test for extra dimensions in Kaluza-Klein gravity

5D Kaluza-Klein gravity has several nonasymptotically flat solutions which generally, possessed both electric and magnetic charges. In this paper we suggest that these solutions can act as quantum virtual handles (wormholes) in spacetime foam models. By applying a sufficently large, external electric and/or magnetic field it may be possible to ``inflate'' these solutions from a quantum to a classical state. This effect would lead to a possible experimental signal for higher dimensions in multidimensional gravity.

Nondifferentiable Dynamic: Two Examples

Some nondifferentiable quantities (for example, the metric signature) can be the independent physical degrees of freedom. It is supposed that in quantum gravity these degrees of freedom can fluctuate. Two examples of such quantum fluctuation are considered: a quantum interchange of the sign of two components of the 5D metric and a quantum fluctuation between Euclidean and Lorentzian metrics. The first case leads to a spin-like structure on the throat of composite wormhole and to a possible inner structure of the string. The second case leads to a quantum birth of the non-singular Euclidean Universe with frozen $5^{th}$ dimension. The probability for such quantum fluctuations is connected with an algorithmical complexity of the Einstein equations.

Wormholes and Flux Tubes in the 7D Gravity on the Principal Bundle with SU(2) Gauge Group as the Extra Dimensions

Vacuum solutions for multidimensional gravity on the principal bundle with the SU(2) structural group as the extra dimensions are found and discussed. This generalizes the results of Ref. \cite{vds3} from U(1) to the SU(2) gauge group. The spherically symmetric solution with the off-diagonal components of the multidimensional metric is obtained. It is shown that two types of solutions exist: the first has a wormhole-like 4D base, the second is a gravitational flux tube with two color and electric charges. The solution depends only on two parameters: the values of the electric and magnetic fields at the origin. In the plane of these parameters there exists a curve separating the regions with different types of solutions. An analogy with the 5D solutions is discussed.

Flux Tubes in Weyl Gravity

The spherically symmetric solutions in Weyl gravity interacting with U(1) or SU(2) gauge fields are examined. It is shown that these solutions are conformally equivalent to an infinite flux tube with constant (color) electric and magnetic fields. This allows us to say that Weyl gravity has in some sense a classical confinement mechanism. We discuss a possible connection with flux tubes in quantum chromodynamics.

preprint1999arXiv

Quantization of classical singular solutions in Yang-Mills theory

In this paper we apply a variant of Heisenberg's quantization method for strongly interacting, non-linear fields, to solutions of the classical Yang-Mills field equations which have bad asymptotic behavior. After quantization we find that the bad features (i.e. divergent fields and energy densities) of these solutions are moderated. From these results we argue that in general the n-point Green's functions for Yang-Mills theories can have non-perturbative pieces which can not be represented as the sum of Feynman diagrams. A formalism for dealing with these non-Feynman pieces via nonassociative field operators is suggested. These methods may also find some application in dealing with high-$T_c$ superconductors.

Wormholes and Flux Tubes in 5D Kaluza-Klein Theory

In this paper spherically symmetric solutions to 5D Kaluza-Klein theory, with ``electric'' and/or ``magnetic'' fields are investigated. It is shown that the global structure of the spacetime depends on the relation between the ``electrical'' and ``magnetic'' Kaluza-Klein fields. For small ``magnetic'' field we find a wormhole-like solution. As the strength of the ``magnetic'' field is increased relative to the strength of the ``electrical'' field, the wormhole-like solution evolves into a finite or infinite flux tube depending on the strengths of the two fields. For the large ``electric'' field case we conjecture that this solution can be considered as the mouth of a wormhole, with the $G_{55}$, $G_{5t}$ and $G_{5ϕ}$ components of the metric acting as the source of the exotic matter necessary for the formation of the wormhole's mouth. For the large ``magnetic'' field case a 5D flux tube forms, which is similar to the flux tube between two monopoles in Type-II superconductors, or the hypothesized color field flux tube between two quarks in the QCD vacuum.

preprint1998arXiv

Quantization of spherically symmetric solution of SU(3) Yang-Mills theory

A recent investigation of the SU(3) Yang-Mills field equations found several classical solutions which exhibited a type of confinement due to gauge fields which increased without bound as $r \to \infty$. This increase of the gauge fields gave these solutions an infinite field energy, raising questions about their physical significance. In this paper we apply some ideas of Heisenberg about the quantization of strongly interacting, non-linear fields to this classical solution and find that at large $r$ this quantization procedure softens the unphysical behaviour of the classical solution, while the interesting short distance behaviour is still maintained. This quantization procedure may provide a general method for approximating the quantum corrections to certain classical field configurations.
