Perturbative hysteresis and emergent resummation scales

We investigate hysteresis effects in the perturbative solution of renormalisation group equations (RGEs). We present examples for the QCD running coupling and proton's parton distribution functions (PDFs), relevant to precision physics at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and future collider experiments. We propose the use of resummation scales to take into account the theoretical uncertainties from the solution of the RGEs. As a case study, we consider the $F_2$ structure function in a region relevant to the extraction of PDFs.

The partonic structure of the electron at the next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy in QED

By working in QED, we obtain the electron, positron, and photon Parton Distribution Functions (PDFs) of the unpolarised electron at the next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. The PDFs account for all of the universal effects of initial-state collinear origin, and are key ingredients in the calculations of cross sections in the so-called structure-function approach. We present both numerical and analytical results, and show that they agree extremely well with each other. The analytical predictions are defined by means of an additive formula that matches a large-$z$ solution that includes all orders in the QED coupling constant $α$, with a small- and intermediate-$z$ solution that includes terms up to ${\cal O}(α^3)$.

xFitter: An Open Source QCD Analysis Framework. A resource and reference document for the Snowmass study

We provide an overview of the xFitter open-source software package, review the general capabilities of the program, and highlight applications relevant to the Snowmass study. An updated version of the program (2.2.0) is available on CERN GitLab, a and this has been updated to a C++ codebase with enhanced and extended features. We also discuss some of the ongoing and future code developments that may be useful for precision studies. We survey recent analyses performed by the xFitter developers' team including: W and Z production, photon PDFs, Drell-Yan forward-backward asymmetry studies, resummation of small-x contributions, heavy quark production, constraints on the strange PDF, determination of the pion PDF, and determination of the pion Fragmentation Functions. Finally, we briefly summarize selected applications of xFitter in the literature. The xFitter program is a versatile, flexible, modular, and comprehensive tool that can provide impact studies for possible future facilities. We encourage the use of xFitter, and welcome new contributions from the community.

Combining NNPDF3.0 and NNPDF2.3QED through the APFEL evolution code

We present sets of parton distribution functions (PDFs), based on the NNPDF3.0 family, which include the photon PDF from the NNPDF2.3QED sets, and leading-order QED contributions to the DGLAP evolution as implemented in the public code APFEL. The aim is to combine our state-of-the-art determination of quark and gluon PDFs with the so far only direct determination of the photon PDF from LHC data. In addition, the use of APFEL allowed us to employ a solution of the DGLAP equation that, differently from that used for the NNPDF2.3QED sets, includes QED corrections in a more accurate way. We briefly discuss how these sets are constructed and investigate the effect of the inclusion of the QED corrections on PDFs and parton luminosities. Finally, we compare the resulting sets, which we dubbed NNPDF3.0QED, to the older NNPDF2.3QED sets and to all presently available PDF sets that include QED corrections, namely CT14QED and MRST2004QED.

Physics at a 100 TeV pp collider: Standard Model processes

This report summarises the properties of Standard Model processes at the 100 TeV pp collider. We document the production rates and typical distributions for a number of benchmark Standard Model processes, and discuss new dynamical phenomena arising at the highest energies available at this collider. We discuss the intrinsic physics interest in the measurement of these Standard Model processes, as well as their role as backgrounds for New Physics searches.

Progress in the Neural Network Determination of Polarized Parton Distributions

We review recent progress towards a determination of a set of polarized parton distributions from a global set of deep-inelastic scattering data based on the NNPDF methodology, in analogy with the unpolarized case. This method is designed to provide a faithful and statistically sound representation of parton distributions and their uncertainties. We show how the FastKernel method provides a fast and accurate method for solving the polarized DGLAP equations. We discuss the polarized PDF parametrizations and the physical constraints which can be imposed. Preliminary results suggest that the uncertainty on polarized PDFs, most notably the gluon, has been underestimated in previous studies.

The impact of heavy quark mass effects in the NNPDF global analysis

We discuss the implementation of the FONLL general-mass scheme for heavy quarks in deep-inelastic scattering in the FastKernel framework, used in the NNPDF series of global PDF analysis. We present the general features of FONLL and benchmark the accuracy of its implementation in FastKernel comparing with the Les Houches heavy quark benchmark tables. We then show preliminary results of the NNPDF2.1 analysis, in which heavy quark mass effects are included following the FONLL-A GM scheme.

Kaon oscillations in the Standard Model and Beyond using Nf=2 dynamical quarks

We compute non-perturbatively the B-parameters of the complete basis of four-fermion operators needed to study the Kaon oscillations in the SM and in its supersymmetric extension. We perform numerical simulations with two dynamical maximally twisted sea quarks at three values of the lattice spacing on configurations generated by the ETMC. Unwanted operator mixings and O(a) discretization effects are removed by discretizing the valence quarks with a suitable Osterwalder-Seiler variant of the Twisted Mass action. Operators are renormalized non-perturbatively in the RI/MOM scheme. Our preliminary result for BK(RGI) is 0.73(3)(3).
