Measurement of the e+e−→K+K−π0e^+e^- \to K^+ K^- π^0 cross section with the SND detector

The process e+e−→K+K−π0e^+e^-\to K^+K^-π^0 is studied with the SND detector at the VEPP-2000 e+e−e^+e^- collider. Basing on data with an integrated luminosity of 26.4~pb−1^{-1} we measure the e+e−→K+K−π0e^+e^-\to K^+K^-π^0 cross section in the center-of-mass energy range from 1.28 up to 2 GeV. The measured mass spectrum of the KπKπ system indicates that the dominant mechanism of this reaction is the transition through the K∗(892)KK^{\ast}(892)K intermediate state. The cross section for the ϕπ0ϕπ^0 intermediate state is measured separately. The SND results are consistent with previous measurements in the BABAR experiment and have comparable accuracy. We study the effect of the interference between the ϕπ0ϕπ^0 and K∗KK^\ast K amplitudes. It is found that the interference gives sizable contribution to the measured e+e−→ϕπ0→K+K−π0e^+e^- \to ϕπ^0\to K^+K^-π^0 cross section below 1.7 GeV.

Measurement of the e+e−→π+π−e^+e^- \toπ^+π^- process cross section with the SND detector at the VEPP-2000 collider in the energy region 0.525<s<0.8830.525<\sqrt{s}<0.883 GeV

The cross section of the process e+e−→π+π−e^+ e^-\toπ^+π^- has been measured in the Spherical Neutral Detector (SND) experiment at the VEPP-2000 e+e−e^+e^- collider VEPP-2000 in the energy region 525<s<883525 <\sqrt[]{s} <883 MeV. The measurement is based on data with an integrated luminosity of about 4.6 pb−1^{-1}. The systematic uncertainty of the cross section determination is 0.8 % at s>0.600\sqrt{s}>0.600 GeV. The ρρ meson parameters are obtained as mρ=775.3±0.5±0.6m_ρ= 775.3\pm 0.5\pm 0.6 MeV, Γρ=145.6±0.6±0.8Γ_ρ= 145.6\pm 0.6\pm 0.8 MeV, Bρ→e+e−×Bρ→π+π−=(4.89±0.02±0.04)×10−5B_{ρ\to e^+ e^-}\times B_{ρ\toπ^+π^-} = (4.89\pm 0.02\pm 0.04)\times 10^{-5}, and the parameters of the e+e−→ω→π+π−e^+ e^-\toω\toπ^+π^- process, suppressed by GG-parity, as Bω→e+e−×Bω→π+π−=(1.32±0.06±0.02)×10−6B_{ω\to e^+ e^-}\times B_{ω\toπ^+π^-}= (1.32\pm 0.06\pm 0.02)\times 10^{-6} and ϕρω=110.7±1.5±1.0ϕ_{ρω} = 110.7\pm 1.5\pm1.0 degrees.

Measurements of the Absolute Branching Fractions of B±→K±XccˉB^\pm \to K^\pm X_{c\bar c}

A study of the two body decays B±→XccˉK±B^\pm\rightarrow X_{c\bar c}K^\pm, where Xccˉ_{c\bar c} refers to one charmonium state, is reported by BaBar collaboration using a data sample of 424 fb−1^{-1}. The absolute determination of branching fractions for these decays are significantly improved compared to previous BaBaR measurements. Evidence is found for the decay B+→X(3872)K+B^+\rightarrow X(3872)K^+ at the 3σ3σ level. The absolute branching fraction B(B+→X(3872)K+)=(2.1±0.6(stat)±0.3(syst))×10−4{\cal B}(B^+\rightarrow X(3872)K^+) = (2.1\pm0.6({\rm stat})\pm0.3({\rm syst}))\times 10^{-4} is measured for the first time. It follows that B(X(3872)→J/ψπ+π−)=(4.1±1.3)%{\cal B}(X(3872)\rightarrow J/ψπ^+π^-)=(4.1\pm1.3)\%, supporting the hypothesis of a molecular component for this resonance.

Precision measurement of the B(Υ(3S)→τ+τ−)/B(Υ(3S)→μ+μ−){\cal B}(Υ(3S)\toτ^+τ^-)/{\cal B}(Υ(3S)\toμ^+μ^-) ratio

We report on a precision measurement of the ratio RτμΥ(3S)=B(Υ(3S)→τ+τ−)/B(Υ(3S)→μ+μ−){\cal R}_{τμ}^{Υ(3S)} = {\cal B}(Υ(3S)\toτ^+τ^-)/{\cal B}(Υ(3S)\toμ^+μ^-) using data collected with the BaBar detector at the SLAC PEP-II e+e−e^+e^- collider. The measurement is based on a 28 fb−1^{-1} data sample collected at a center-of-mass energy of 10.355 GeV corresponding to a sample of 122 million Υ(3S)Υ(3S) mesons. The ratio is measured to be RτμΥ(3S)=0.966±0.008stat±0.014syst{\cal R}_{τμ}^{Υ(3S)} = 0.966 \pm 0.008_\mathrm{stat} \pm 0.014_\mathrm{syst} and is in agreement with the Standard Model prediction of 0.9948 within 2 standard deviations. The uncertainty in RτμΥ(3S){\cal R}_{τμ}^{Υ(3S)} is almost an order of magnitude smaller than the only previous measurement.

Search for lepton-flavor violating decays D0→X0e±μ∓D^{0}\rightarrow X^{0}e^{\pm}μ^{\mp}

We present a search for seven lepton-flavor-violating neutral charm decays of the type D0→X0e±μ∓D^{0}\rightarrow X^{0} e^{\pm} μ^{\mp}, where X0X^{0} represents a π0π^{0}, KS0K^{0}_{\rm S}, K∗0ˉ\bar{K^{*0}}, ρ0ρ^{0}, ϕϕ, ωω, or ηη meson. The analysis is based on 468468 fb−1^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- annihilation data collected at or close to the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance with the BaBar detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. No significant signals are observed, and we establish 90\% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions in the range (5.0−22.5)×10−7(5.0 - 22.5)\times 10^{-7}. The limits are between one and two orders of magnitude more stringent than previous measurements.

Search for rare or forbidden decays of the D0D^{0} meson

We present a search for nine lepton-number-violating and three lepton-flavor-violating neutral charm decays of the type D0→h′−h−ℓ′+ℓ+D^0\rightarrow h^{\prime -} h^{-}\ell^{\prime +} \ell^{+} and D0→h′−h+ℓ′±ℓ∓D^0\rightarrow h^{\prime -} h^{+}\ell^{\prime\pm} \ell^{\mp}, where hh and h′h^{\prime} represent a KK or ππ meson and ℓ\ell and ℓ′\ell^{\prime} an electron or muon. The analysis is based on 468468 fb−1^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- annihilation data collected at or close to the Y(4S)Y(4S) resonance with the BaBar detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. No significant signal is observed for any of the twelve modes and we establish 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions in the range (1.0−30.6)×10−7(1.0 - 30.6)\times 10^{-7}. The limits are between one and three orders of magnitude times more stringent than previous measurements.

Study of the reaction e+e−→π0γe^+e^- \to π^0γ with the SND detector at the VEPP-2M collider

The process e+e−→π0γe^+e^- \to π^0γ has been studied in the experiment with the SND detector at the VEPP-2M e+e−e^+e^- collider. The e+e−→π0γe^+e^- \to π^0γ cross section has been measured in the center-of-mass energy range from 0.60 to 1.38 GeV. The cross section is well described by the vector meson dominance model. From the fit to the cross section data we have determined the branching fractions B(ρ→π0γ)=(4.20±0.52)×10−4B(ρ\toπ^0γ)=(4.20\pm0.52)\times10^{-4}, B(ω→π0γ)=(8.88±0.18)%B(ω\toπ^0γ)=(8.88\pm0.18)\%, B(ϕ→π0γ)=(1.367±0.072)×10−3B(ϕ\toπ^0γ)=(1.367\pm0.072)\times10^{-3}, and the relative phase between the ρρ and ωω amplitudes φρ=(−12.7±4.5)∘φ_ρ=(-12.7\pm4.5)^\circ. Our data on the process e+e−→π0γe^+e^- \to π^0γ are the most accurate to date.

First Observation of CP Violation in B0->D(*)CP h0 Decays by a Combined Time-Dependent Analysis of BaBar and Belle Data

We report a measurement of the time-dependent CP asymmetry of B0->D(*)CP h0 decays, where the light neutral hadron h0 is a pi0, eta or omega meson, and the neutral D meson is reconstructed in the CP eigenstates K+ K-, K0S pi0 or K0S omega. The measurement is performed combining the final data samples collected at the Y(4S) resonance by the BaBar and Belle experiments at the asymmetric-energy B factories PEP-II at SLAC and KEKB at KEK, respectively. The data samples contain ( 471 +/- 3 ) x 10^6 BB pairs recorded by the BaBar detector and ( 772 +/- 11 ) x 10^6, BB pairs recorded by the Belle detector. We measure the CP asymmetry parameters -eta_f S = +0.66 +/- 0.10 (stat.) +/- 0.06 (syst.) and C = -0.02 +/- 0.07 (stat.) +/- 0.03 (syst.). These results correspond to the first observation of CP violation in B0->D(*)CP h0 decays. The hypothesis of no mixing-induced CP violation is excluded in these decays at the level of 5.4 standard deviations.

Measurement of the e+e−→ηπ+π−e^+e^- \to ηπ^+π^- cross section in the center-of-mass energy range 1.22--2.00 GeV with the SND detector at the VEPP-2000 collider

In the experiment with the SND detector at the VEPP-2000 e+e−e^+e^- collider the cross section for the process e+e−→ηπ+π−e^+e^-\toηπ^+π^- has been measured in the center-of-mass energy range from 1.22 to 2.00 GeV. Obtained results are in agreement with previous measurements and have better accuracy. The energy dependence of the e+e−→ηπ+π−e^+e^-\toηπ^+π^- cross section has been fitted with the vector-meson dominance model. From this fit the product of the branching fractions B(ρ(1450)→ηπ+π−)B(ρ(1450)→e+e−)B(ρ(1450)\toηπ^+π^-)B(ρ(1450)\to e^+e^-) has been extracted and compared with the same products for ρ(1450)→ωπ0ρ(1450)\toωπ^0 and ρ(1450)→π+π−ρ(1450)\toπ^+π^- decays. The obtained cross section data have been also used to test the conservation of vector current hypothesis.

On a search for the η→e+e−η\rightarrow e^+ e^- decay at the VEPP-2000 e+e−e^+e^- collider

A sensitivity of the VEPP-2000 e+e−e^+e^- collider in a search for the rare decay η→e+e−η\rightarrow e^+ e^- has been studied. The inverse reaction e+e−→ηe^+ e^- \rightarrow η is proposed for this search. We have analyzed a data sample with an integrated luminosity of 108 nb−1^{-1} collected with the SND detector in the center-of-mass energy range 520-580 MeV and found no background events for the reaction e+e−→ηe^+ e^- \rightarrow η in the decay mode η→π0π0π0η\toπ^0π^0π^0. In the absence of background, a sensitivity to B(η→e+e−){\cal B}(η\rightarrow e^+ e^-) of 10−610^{-6} can be reached during two weeks of VEPP-2000 operation. Such a sensitivity is better than the current upper limit on B(η→e+e−){\cal B}(η\rightarrow e^+ e^-) by a factor of 2.3.

Search for the η′→e+e−η^{\prime}\to e^+e^- decay with the SND detector

A search for the process e+e−→η′e^+e^- \to η^\prime has been performed with the SND detector at the VEPP-2000 e+e−e^+e^- collider. The data were accumulated at the center-of-mass energy of 957.78±0.06957.78\pm 0.06 MeV with an integrated luminosity of about 2.9 pb−1^{-1}. For reconstruction of the η′η^\prime meson five decay chains have been used: η′→ηπ+π−η^{\prime}\toηπ^+π^- followed by the ηη decays to γγγγ and 3π03π^0 , and η′→ηπ0π0η^{\prime} \to ηπ^0π^0 followed by the ηη decays to π+π−π0π^+π^-π^0, γγγγ, and 3π03π^0. As a result, the upper limit has been set on the η′η^\prime electronic width: Γη′→e+e−<0.0020Γ_{η^{\prime}\to e^+e^-} < 0.0020 eV at the 90\% confidence level.

The Physics of the B Factories

This work is on the Physics of the B Factories. Part A of this book contains a brief description of the SLAC and KEK B Factories as well as their detectors, BaBar and Belle, and data taking related issues. Part B discusses tools and methods used by the experiments in order to obtain results. The results themselves can be found in Part C. Please note that version 3 on the archive is the auxiliary version of the Physics of the B Factories book. This uses the notation alpha, beta, gamma for the angles of the Unitarity Triangle. The nominal version uses the notation phi_1, phi_2 and phi_3. Please cite this work as Eur. Phys. J. C74 (2014) 3026.

Evidence for the decay B0 --> omega omega and search for B0 --> omega phi

We describe searches for B meson decays to the charmless vector-vector final states omega omega and omega phi with 471 x 10^6 B Bbar pairs produced in e+ e- annihilation at sqrt(s) = 10.58 GeV using the BABAR detector at the PEP-II collider at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. We measure the branching fraction B(B0 --> omega omega) = (1.2 +- 0.3 +0.3-0.2) x 10^-6, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic, corresponding to a significance of 4.4 standard deviations. We also determine the upper limit B(B0 --> omega phi) < 0.7 x 10^-6 at 90% confidence level. These measurements provide the first evidence for the decay B0 --> omega omega, and an improvement of the upper limit for the decay B0 --> omega phi.

Observation of Time Reversal Violation in the B0 Meson System

Although CP violation in the B meson system has been well established by the B factories, there has been no direct observation of time reversal violation. The decays of entangled neutral B mesons into definite flavor states (B0B^0 or Bˉ0\bar{B}^0), and J/ψKS0J/ψK_S^0 or ccˉKS0c\bar{c} K_S^0 final states (referred to as B+B_+ or B−B_-), allow comparisons between the probabilities of four pairs of T-conjugated transitions, for example, Bˉ0→B−\bar{B}^0 \rightarrow B_- and B−→Bˉ0B_- \rightarrow \bar{B}^0, as a function of the time difference between the two B decays. Using 468 million BBˉB\bar{B} pairs produced in Υ(4S)Υ(4S) decays collected by the BABAR detector at SLAC, we measure T-violating parameters in the time evolution of neutral B mesons, yielding ΔST+=−1.37±0.14(stat.)±0.06(syst.)ΔS_T^+ = -1.37 \pm 0.14 (stat.) \pm 0.06 (syst.) and ΔST−=1.17±0.18(stat.)±0.11(syst.)ΔS_T^- = 1.17 \pm 0.18 (stat.) \pm 0.11 (syst.). These nonzero results represent the first direct observation of T violation through the exchange of initial and final states in transitions that can only be connected by a T-symmetry transformation.

The CP-violating decay rate asymmetry A_CP is determined to be (0.35 +- 0.30 +- 0.15)%. Study of e+e- --> omega pi0 --> pi0 pi0 gamma in the energy range 1.05--2.00 GeV with SND

The cross section for the process e+e- --> omega pi0 --> pi0 pi0 gamma has been measured in the energy range 1.05--2.00 GeV. The experiment has been performed at the e+e- collider VEPP-2000 with the SND detector. The measured e+e- --> omega pi0 cross section above 1.4 GeV is the most accurate to date. Below 1.4 GeV our data are in good agreement with the previous SND and CMD-2 measurements. Data on the e+e- --> omega pi0 cross section are well described by the VMD model with two excited rho-like states. From the measured cross section we have extracted the gamma^* --> omega pi0 transition form factor. It has been found that the VDM model cannot describe simultaneously our data and data obtained from the omega --> pi0 mu+ mu- decay. We have also tested CVC hypothesis comparing our results on the e+e- --> omega pi0 cross section with data on the tau- --> omega pi- nu_{tau} decay.

Study of the decay Bˉ0→Λc+pˉπ+π−\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrowΛ_{c}^{+}\bar{p}π^{+}π^{-} and its intermediate states

We study the decay Bˉ0→Λc+pˉπ+π−\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrowΛ_{c}^{+}\bar{p}π^{+}π^{-}, reconstructing the Λ_{c}^{+} baryon in the pK−π+p K^{-}π^{+} mode, using a data sample of 467×106467\times 10^{6} BBˉB\bar{B} pairs collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-2 storage rings at SLAC. We measure branching fractions for decays with intermediate ΣcΣ_{c} baryons to be B[Bˉ0→Σc(2455)++pˉπ−]=(21.3±1.0±1.0±5.5)×10−5{\cal B}[\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrowΣ_{c}(2455)^{++}\bar{p}π^{-}]=(21.3 \pm 1.0 \pm 1.0 \pm 5.5) \times 10^{-5}, B[Bˉ0→Σc(2520)++pˉπ−]=(11.5±1.0±0.5±3.0)×10−5{\cal B}[\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrowΣ_{c}(2520)^{++}\bar{p}π^{-}]=(11.5\pm 1.0 \pm 0.5 \pm 3.0)\times 10^{-5}, B[Bˉ0→Σc(2455)0pˉπ+]=(9.1±0.7±0.4±2.4)×10−5{\cal B}[\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrowΣ_{c}(2455)^{0}\bar{p}π^{+}]=(9.1 \pm 0.7 \pm 0.4 \pm 2.4)\times10^{-5}, and B[Bˉ0→Σc(2520)0pˉπ+]=(2.2±0.7±0.1±0.6)×10−5{\cal B}[\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrowΣ_{c}(2520)^{0}\bar{p}π^{+}]= (2.2 \pm 0.7 \pm 0.1\pm 0.6) \times 10^{-5}, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the uncertainty on the $Λ_{c}^{+}\rightarrow\proton\Kmπ^{+}$ branching fraction, respectively. For decays without Σc(2455)Σ_{c}(2455) or Σc(2520)Σ_{c}(2520) resonances, we measure B[Bˉ0→Λc+pˉπ+π−]non−Σc=(79±4±4±20)×10−5{\cal B}[\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrowΛ_{c}^{+}\bar{p}π^{+}π^{-}]_{\mathrm{non-Σ_{c}}}=(79 \pm 4 \pm 4 \pm 20)\times10^{-5}. The total branching fraction is determined to be B[Bˉ0→Λc+pˉπ+π−]total=(123±5±7±32)×10−5{\cal B}[\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrowΛ_{c}^{+}\bar{p}π^{+}π^{-}]_{\mathrm{total}}=(123 \pm 5 \pm 7 \pm 32)\times10^{-5}. We examine multibody mass combinations in the resonant three-particle ΣcpˉπΣ_{c}\bar{p}π final states and in the four-particle Λc+pˉπ+π−Λ_{c}^{+}\bar{p}π^{+}π^{-} final state, and observe different characteristics for the pˉπ\bar{p}π combination in neutral versus doubly-charged ΣcΣ_{c} decays.

SuperB Technical Design Report

In this Technical Design Report (TDR) we describe the SuperB detector that was to be installed on the SuperB e+e- high luminosity collider. The SuperB asymmetric collider, which was to be constructed on the Tor Vergata campus near the INFN Frascati National Laboratory, was designed to operate both at the Upsilon(4S) center-of-mass energy with a luminosity of 10^{36} cm^{-2}s^{-1} and at the tau/charm production threshold with a luminosity of 10^{35} cm^{-2}s^{-1}. This high luminosity, producing a data sample about a factor 100 larger than present B Factories, would allow investigation of new physics effects in rare decays, CP Violation and Lepton Flavour Violation. This document details the detector design presented in the Conceptual Design Report (CDR) in 2007. The R&D and engineering studies performed to arrive at the full detector design are described, and an updated cost estimate is presented. A combination of a more realistic cost estimates and the unavailability of funds due of the global economic climate led to a formal cancelation of the project on Nov 27, 2012.

Branching fraction and form-factor shape measurements of exclusive charmless semileptonic B decays, and determination of |V_{ub}|

We report the results of a study of the exclusive charmless semileptonic decays, B^0 --> pi^- l^+ nu, B^+ --> pi^0 l^+ nu, B^+ --> omega l^+ nu, B^+ --> eta l^+ nu and B^+ --> eta^' l^+ nu, (l = e or mu) undertaken with approximately 462x10^6 B\bar{B} pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector. The analysis uses events in which the signal B decays are reconstructed with a loose neutrino reconstruction technique. We obtain partial branching fractions in several bins of q^2, the square of the momentum transferred to the lepton-neutrino pair, for B^0 --> pi^- l^+ nu, B^+ --> pi^0 l^+ nu, B^+ --> omega l^+ nu and B^+ --> eta l^+ nu. From these distributions, we extract the form-factor shapes f_+(q^2) and the total branching fractions BF(B^0 --> pi^- l^+ nu) = (1.45 +/- 0.04_{stat} +/- 0.06_{syst})x10^-4 (combined pi^- and pi^0 decay channels assuming isospin symmetry), BF(B^+ --> omega l^+ nu) = (1.19 +/- 0.16_{stat} +/- 0.09_{syst})x10^-4 and BF(B^+ --> eta l^+ nu) = (0.38 +/- 0.05_{stat} +/- 0.05_{syst})x10^-4. We also measure BF(B^+ --> eta^' l^+ nu) = (0.24 +/- 0.08_{stat} +/- 0.03_{syst})x10^-4. We obtain values for the magnitude of the CKM matrix element V_{ub} by direct comparison with three different QCD calculations in restricted q^2 ranges of B --> pi l^+ nu decays. From a simultaneous fit to the experimental data over the full q^2 range and the FNAL/MILC lattice QCD predictions, we obtain |V_{ub}| = (3.25 +/- 0.31)x10^-3, where the error is the combined experimental and theoretical uncertainty.

We use these data to extract the non-radiative sigma(e+e- ->pi+pi-pi+pi-) cross section in the energy range from 0.6 to 4.5 Gev. The total uncertainty of the cross section measurement in the peak region is less than 3%, higher in precision than the corresponding results obtained from energy scan data.

Evidence for the h_b(1P) meson in the decay Upsilon(3S) --> pi0 h_b(1P)

Using a sample of 122 million Upsilon(3S) events recorded with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider at SLAC, we search for the hb(1P)h_b(1P) spin-singlet partner of the P-wave chi_{bJ}(1P) states in the sequential decay Upsilon(3S) --> pi0 h_b(1P), h_b(1P) --> gamma eta_b(1S). We observe an excess of events above background in the distribution of the recoil mass against the pi0 at mass 9902 +/- 4(stat.) +/- 2(syst.) MeV/c^2. The width of the observed signal is consistent with experimental resolution, and its significance is 3.1sigma, including systematic uncertainties. We obtain the value (4.3 +/- 1.1(stat.) +/- 0.9(syst.)) x 10^{-4} for the product branching fraction BF(Upsilon(3S)-->pi0 h_b) x BF(h_b-->gamma eta_b).

Observation of the baryonic B decay B0bar --> Lambda_c^+ anti-Lambda K-

We report the observation of the baryonic B decay B0bar --> Lambda_c^+ anti-Lambda K- with a significance larger than 7 standard deviations based on 471x10^6$ BBbar pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring at SLAC. We measure the branching fraction for the decay B0bar --> Lambda_c^+ anti-Lambda K- to be (3.8 \pm 0.8_{stat} \pm 0.2_{sys} \pm 1.0_{Lambda_c^+})x10^{-5}. The uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the uncertainty in the Lambda_c^+ branching fraction. We find that the Lambda_c^+ K^- invariant mass distribution shows an enhancement above 3.5 GeV/c^2.

Search for hadronic decays of a light Higgs boson in the radiative decay Upsilon --> gamma A0

We search for hadronic decays of a light Higgs boson (A0) produced in radiative decays of an Upsilon(2S) or Upsilon(3S) meson, Upsilon --> gamma A0. The data have been recorded by the BABAR experiment at the Upsilon(3S) and Upsilon(2S) center of mass energies, and include (121.3 \pm 1.2) x 10^6 Upsilon(3S) and (98.3 \pm 0.9) x 10^6 Upsilon(2S) mesons. No significant signal is observed. We set 90% confidence level upper limits on the product branching fractions B(Upsilon(nS)-->gamma A0) x B(A0-->hadrons) (n=2 or 3) that range from 1 x 10^{-6} for an A0 mass of 0.3 GeV/c^2 to 8 x 10^{-5} at 7 GeV/c^2.

Study of radiative bottomonium transitions using converted photons

We use 111+/-1 million Upsilon(3S) and 89+/-1 million Upsilon(2S) events recorded by the BaBar detector at the PEP-II B-factory at SLAC to perform a study of radiative transitions between bottomonium states using photons that have been converted to e+e- pairs by the detector material. We observe Upsilon(3S) -> gamma chi_b0,2(1P) decay, make precise measurements of the branching fractions for chi_b1,2(1P,2P) -> gamma Upsilon(1S) and chi_b1,2(2P) -> gamma Upsilon(2S) decays, and search for radiative decay to the eta_b(1S) and eta_b(2S) states.

Search for Lepton Flavor Violation Process e^+e^- \to eμin the Energy Region \sqrt{s}=984 -- 1060 MeV and ϕ\to eμDecay

The search for lepton-flavor-violation process e^+e^-\to eμin the energy region \sqrt{s}=984 - 1060 MeV with SND detector at VEPP-2M e^+e^- collider is reported. The model independent 90% CL upper limits on the e^+e^-\to eμcross section, σ_{eμ} < 11 pb, as well as on the corresponding ϕ\to eμbranching fraction, B(ϕ\to eμ) < 2 \times 10^{-6}, for the final particles polar angles 55^\circ<θ<125^\circ, were obtained.

Experimental study of the e^+e^-\toπ^+π^-π^0 reaction by SND detector in the energy range sqrt{s}=0.42--1.38 GeV

The review of the SND results of the e+e−→π+π−π0e^+e^-\toπ^+π^-π^0 process study in the energy range s=0.42\sqrt[]{s}=0.42 -- 1.38 GeV at VEPP-2M collider, based on about 2×1062\times 10^6 selected events, is presented. The total cross section, parameters of the ρρ, ωω, ϕϕ resonances, and ω′ω^\prime, ω′′ω^{\prime\prime} states were obtained. It was found that ρπρπ and ωπ0ωπ^0 intermediate states describe the reaction dynamics. The experimental data cannot be described by a sum of only ωω, ϕϕ, ω′ω^\prime and ω′′ω^{\prime\prime} resonances contributions. This can be interpreted as a manifestation of the ρ→3πρ\to 3π decay, suppressed by GG-parity, with relative probability B(ρ→3π)=(1.01±0.360.54±0.034)×10−4B(ρ\to 3π) = (1.01\pm^{0.54}_{0.36}\pm 0.034) \times 10^{-4}.

SND Upgade

The program of upgrade of the Spherical Neutral Detector for future experiments at a new VEPP-2000 e+e−e^+e^- collider is presented. Modernization includes upgrades of electromagnetic calorimeter, tracking system, detector electronics, data acquisition system, and offline software. It is also planned to equip the detector with two new subsystems: particle identification system based on aerogel Cherenkov counters and external electron tagging system for γγγγ physics.

Study of the ππππ mass spectra in the process e+e−→π+π−π0e^+e^- \to π^+π^-π^0 at s≃1020\sqrt[]{s} \simeq 1020 MeV

The invariant mass spectra of the π+π−π^+π^- and π±π0π^\pmπ^0 pairs in the process e+e−→π+π−π0e^+e^- \to π^+π^-π^0 were studied in the SND experiment at the VEPP-2M collider in the energy region s≃1020\sqrt[]{s} \simeq 1020 MeV. These studies were based on about 0.5×1060.5 \times 10^6 experimental events. The spectra were analyzed in the framework of the vector meson dominance model. It was found that the experimental data can be described with e+e−→ρπ→π+π−π0e^+e^- \to ρπ\to π^+π^-π^0 transition only. Upper limit on the branching ratio of the ϕ(1020)→π+π−π0ϕ(1020)\toπ^+π^-π^0 decay through intermediate states different from ρπρπ was obtained at the 90 % confidence level: B(ϕ→π+π−π0)<6⋅10−4B(ϕ\toπ^+π^-π^0)<6 \cdot 10^{-4}. The ρρ-meson mass and width which follow from the spectra analysis are mρ=775.0±1.3m_ρ=775.0\pm 1.3 MeV, Γρ=150.4±3.0Γ_ρ=150.4 \pm 3.0 MeV. Neutral and charged ρρ-mesons mass difference was found to equal mρ±−mρ0=−1.3±2.3m_{ρ^\pm}-m_{ρ^0}=-1.3\pm2.3 MeV. In the π+π−π^+π^- mass spectrum the ρ−ωρ-ω interference was seen at two standard deviations level.

First Physical Results from SND Detector at VEPP-2M

The paper describes experiments with the SND detector at VEPP-2M collider, carried out during the period from October 1995 until June 1997. The total integrated luminosity of 6.4 pb^{-1} was collected in the energy range 2E=0.4-1.4 GeV (MHAD97 experiment), corresponding to 4*10^5 mu^+ mu^- pairs produced. Preliminary results of the 1996 phi-meson experiment (FI96) are presented. The total number of phi-mesons produced is 4*10^6. New data on rare decays of phi and eta (550) mesons, in particular B(phi -> eta gamma) = (1.30+-0.06+-0.07)%, B(phi -> pi^0 pi^0 gamma) = (1.1+-0.2)*10^{-4}, (M_{pi^0 pi^0} > 800 MeV), B(phi -> f^0 gamma) = (4.7+-1.0)*10^{-4}, B(phi -> eta pi^0 gamma) = (1.3+-0.5)*10^{-4}, B(phi -> eta' gamma) < 1.7*10^{-4}, B(phi -> 2 pi^0 ) < 6*10^{-4} were obtained.
