${}_{ΛΛ}^{5}$H and ${}_{ΛΛ}^{5}$He Hypernuclei reexamined in Halo/Cluster Effective Theory

The J=1/2 iso-doublet double-$Λ$-hypernuclei, namely, ${}_{ΛΛ}^{5}$H and ${}_{ΛΛ}^{5}$He, are examined as the three-body cluster states, $ΛΛt$ ($t\equiv {}^3$H or triton) and $ΛΛh$ ($h\equiv {}^3$He or helion), respectively, in a model independent framework utilizing pionless halo effective theory. Both singlet and triplet states of the constituent $ΛT$ ($T\equiv t,h$) sub-system are used in the elastic channel for the study of $_Λ^4$H$-Λ$ and $_Λ^4$He$-Λ$ scattering processes. A prototypical leading order investigation using a sharp momentum cut-off regulator, irrespective of the type of the elastic channel chosen, yields almost identical cut-off dependence of the three-body binding energy or the double-$Λ$-separation energy ($B_{ΛΛ}$) is obtained for the mirror partners, evidently suggesting good isospin symmetry in these three-body systems. Subsequently, upon normalization of our solutions to the integral equation with respect to a single pair of input data from an {\it ab initio} potential model analysis for each mirror hypernuclei, yields $B_{ΛΛ}$ which agrees fairly well with various erstwhile regulator independent potential models for our choice of the cut-off regulator, $\sim 200$ MeV. This is either consistent with pionless effective theory or with its slightly augmented version with a hard scale around $2m_π$, where low-energy $Λ$-$Λ$ interactions dominated by $ππ$ or $σ$-meson exchange. Finally, to demonstrate the predictability of our effective theory, we present preliminary estimates of the S-wave $ΛΛT$ three-body scattering lengths and the $Λ$-separation energies.

CFNS Ad-Hoc meeting on Radiative Corrections Whitepaper

Current precision scattering experiments and even more so many experiments planed for the Electron Ion Collider will be limited by systematics. From the theory side, a fundamental source of systematic uncertainty is the correct treatment of radiative effects. To gauge the current state of technique and knowledge, help the cross-pollination between different direction of nuclear physics, and to give input to the yellow report process, the community met in an ad-hoc workshop hosted by the Center for Frontiers in Nuclear Science, Stony Brook University. This whitepaper is a collection of contributions to this workshop.

Lepton-Proton Two-Photon Exchange in Chiral Perturbation Theory

We use heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory to evaluate the two-photon exchange corrections to the low-energy elastic lepton-proton scattering at next-to-leading order accuracy, i.e., ${\mathcal O}(α, M^{-1})$, including a non-zero lepton mass. We consider the elastic proton intermediate state in the two-photon exchange together in the soft photon approximation. The infrared singular contributions are projected out using dimensional regularization. The resulting infrared singularity-free two-photon exchange contribution is in good numerical agreement with existing predictions based on standard diagrammatic soft photon approximation evaluations.

Investigation of the $nnΛ$ bound state in pionless effective theory

The possibility of an $nnΛ$ bound state is investigated in the framework of pionless effective field theory at leading order. A system of coupled integral equations are constructed in the spin-isospin basis, of which numerical solutions are investigated. In particular, we make use of the limit cycle behavior, i.e., cyclic singularities of coupled integral equations of the system, which would be associated with the formation of a three-body bound state, so-called the Efimov state, in the unitary limit. Furthermore, we find that, when the sharp momentum cutoff introduced in the integral equations is taken significantly larger than the hard scale of the effective theory, the coupling of a three-body contact interaction becomes cyclically singular indicating the onset of Efimov-like bound state formation. However, the paucity of empirical information to determine the parameters of the theory precludes a definitive conclusion on the existence of such a bound state. As a simple test of the feasibility of the $nnΛ$ bound system in nature, we explore the cutoff dependence of the theory, and uncertainties of the present study are discussed as well.

Radiative corrections to anti-neutrino proton scattering

The inverse $β$-decay reaction, $ \barν_e p \to e^+ n$, for low-energy anti-neutrinos coming from nuclear reactors is of great current interest in connection with high-precision measurements of the neutrino mixing angle $θ_{13}$. We have derived analytic expressions, up to next-to-leading order in heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory, for the radiative corrections (RCs) and the nucleon-recoil corrections both for this reaction and for the related neutron $β$-decay process. We show that the recoil corrections, which include the "weak magnetism" contribution, are small for neutron $β$-decay, but for inverse $β$-decay, the recoil corrections are comparable in size to the RCs for typical energies of reactor anti-neutrinos, and they have opposite signs. The RCs and the recoil corrections exhibit very different dependences on the neutrino energy.

Model analysis of thermal UV-cutoff effects on the chiral critical surface at finite temperature and chemical potential

We study the effects of temporal UV-cutoff on the chiral critical surface in hot and dense QCD using a chiral effective model. Recent lattice QCD simulations indicate that the curvature of the critical surface might change toward the direction in which the first order phase transition becomes stronger on increasing the number of lattice sites. To investigate this effect on the critical surface in an effective model approach, we use the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with finite Matsubara frequency summation. We find that qualitative feature of the critical surface does not alter appreciably as we decrease the summation number, which is unlike the case what is observed in the recent lattice QCD studies. This may either suggest the dependence of chemical potential on the coupling strength or due to some additional interacting terms such as vector interactions which could play an important role at finite density.

Space- and time-like electromagnetic pion form factors in light-cone pQCD

We present a combined analysis of the space- and time-like electromagnetic pion form factors in light-cone perturbative QCD with transverse momentum dependence and Sudakov suppression. Including the non-perturbative ``soft' QCD and power suppressed twist-3 corrections to the standard twist-2 perturbative QCD result, the experimental pion data available at moderate energies/momentum transfers can be explained reasonably well. This may help towards resolving the bulk of the existing discrepancy between the space- and time-like experimental data.

Space-and Time-like Electromagnetic Kaon Form Factors

A simultaneous investigation of the space- and time-like electromagnetic form factors of the charged kaon is presented within the framework of light-cone QCD, with perturbative $k_T$-factorization including Sudakov suppression. The effects of power suppressed sub-leading twists and the genuine ``soft'' QCD corrections turn out to be dominant at low- and moderate-energies/momentum transfers $Q^2$. Our predictions agree well with the available moderate-energy experimental data, including the recent results from the CLEO measurements and certain estimates based on the phenomenological analyses of $J/ψ$ decays.

Model analysis on thermal UV-cutoff effects on the critical boundary in hot QCD

We study the critical boundary on the quark-mass plane associated with the chiral phase transition in QCD at finite temperature. We point out that the critical boundaries obtained from the Lattice QCD simulation and the chiral effective model are significantly different; in the (Polyakov-loop coupled) Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model we find that the critical mass is about one order of magnitude smaller than the value reported in the Lattice QCD case. It is known in the Lattice QCD study that the critical mass goes smaller in the continuum limit along the temporal direction. To investigate the temporal UV-cutoff effects quantitatively we consider the (P)NJL model with only finite $N_τ$ Matsubara frequencies taken in the summation. We confirm that the critical mass in such a UV-tamed NJL model becomes larger with decreasing $N_τ$, which demonstrates a correct tendency to explain the difference between the Lattice QCD and chiral model results.

The pion-nucleon scattering lengths from pionic deuterium

We use the framework of effective field theories to discuss the determination of the S-wave πN scattering lengths from the recent high-precision measurements of pionic deuterium observables. The theoretical analysis proceeds in several steps. Initially, the precise value of the pion-deuteron scattering length a_{πd} is extracted from the data. Next, a_{πd} is related to the S-wave πN scattering lengths a_+ and a_-. We discuss the use of this information for constraining the values of these scattering lengths in the full analysis, which also includes the input from the pionic hydrogen energy shift and width measurements, and throughly investigate the accuracy limits for this procedure. In this paper, we also give a detailed comparison to other effective field theory approaches, as well as with the earlier work on the subject, carried out within the potential model and multiple scattering framework.
