Exact asymptotics of component-wise extrema of two-dimensional Brownian motion

We derive the exact asymptotics of P(sup⁡t≥0(X1(t)−μ1t)>u, sup⁡s≥0(X2(s)−μ2s)>u),  u→∞, P\left( \sup_{t\ge 0} \Bigl( X_1(t) - μ_1 t\Bigr)> u, \ \sup_{s\ge 0} \Bigl( X_2(s) - μ_2 s\Bigr)> u \right), \ \ u\to\infty, where (X1(t),X2(s))t,s≥0(X_1(t),X_2(s))_{t,s\ge0} is a correlated two-dimensional Brownian motion with correlation ρ∈[−1,1]ρ\in[-1,1] and μ1,μ2>0μ_1,μ_2>0. It appears that the play between ρρ and μ1,μ2μ_1,μ_2 leads to several types of asymptotics. Although the exponent in the asymptotics as a function of ρρ is continuous, one can observe different types of prefactor functions depending on the range of ρρ, which constitute a phase-type transition phenomena.

Extremes of multidimensional Gaussian processes

This paper considers extreme values attained by a centered, multidimensional Gaussian process X(t)=(X1(t),…,Xn(t))X(t)= (X_1(t),\ldots,X_n(t)) minus drift d(t)=(d1(t),…,dn(t))d(t)=(d_1(t),\ldots,d_n(t)), on an arbitrary set TT. Under mild regularity conditions, we establish the asymptotics of log⁡P(∃t∈T:⋂i=1n{Xi(t)−di(t)>qiu}),\log\mathbb P\left(\exists{t\in T}:\bigcap_{i=1}^n\left\{X_i(t)-d_i(t)>q_iu\right\}\right), for positive thresholds qi>0q_i>0, i=1,…,ni=1,\ldots,n, and u→∞u\to\infty. Our findings generalize and extend previously known results for the single-dimensional and two-dimensional cases. A number of examples illustrate the theory.

Quasi-stationary workload in a Lévy-driven storage system

In this paper we analyze the quasi-stationary workload of a Lévy-driven storage system. More precisely, assuming the system is in stationarity, we study its behavior conditional on the event that the busy period TT in which time 0 is contained has not ended before time tt, as t→∞t\to\infty. We do so by first identifying the double Laplace transform associated with the workloads at time 0 and time tt, on the event {T>t}.\{T>t\}. This transform can be explicitly computed for the case of spectrally one-sided jumps. Then asymptotic techniques for Laplace inversion are relied upon to find the corresponding behavior in the limiting regime that t→∞.t\to\infty. Several examples are treated; for instance in the case of Brownian input, we conclude that the workload distribution at time 0 and tt are both Erlang(2).

The exact asymptotic of the collision time tail distribution for independent Brownian particles with different drifts

In this note we consider the time of the collision ττ for nn independent Brownian motions Xt1,...,XtnX^1_t,...,X_t^n with drifts a1,...,ana_1,...,a_n, each starting from x=(x1,...,xn)x=(x_1,...,x_n), where x1<...<xnx_1<...<x_n. We show the exact asymptotics of Px(τ>t)=Ch(x)t−αe−γt(1+o(1))P_x(τ>t) = C h(x)t^{-α}e^{-γt}(1 + o(1)) as t→∞t\to\infty and identify C,h(x),α,γC,h(x),α,γ in terms of the drifts.
