Revisiting the Rellich inequality

We revisit the Rellich inequality from the viewpoint of isolating the contributions from radial and spherical derivatives. This naturally leads to a comparison of the norms of the radial Laplacian and Laplace{Beltrami operators with the standard Laplacian. In the case of the Laplace{ Beltrami operator, the three-dimensional case is the most subtle and here we improve a result of Evans and Lewis by identifying the best constant. Our arguments build on certain identities recently established by Wadade and the second and third authors, along with use of spherical harmonics.

Schrödinger-improved Boussinesq system in two space dimensions

We study the Cauchy problem for the Schrödinger-improved Boussinesq system in a two dimensional domain. Under natural assumptions on the data without smallness, we prove the existence and uniqueness of global strong solutions. Moreover, we consider the vanishing "improvement" limit of global solutions as the coefficient of the linear term of the highest order in the equation of ion sound waves tends to zero. Under the same smallness assumption on the data as in the Zakharov case, solutions in the vanishing "improvement" limit are shown to satisfy the Zakharov system.

Representation formulae for the higher-order Steklov and $L^{2^{m}}$-Friedrichs inequalities

In this paper, we obtain remainder term representation formulae for the higher-order Steklov inequality for vector fields which imply short and direct proofs of the sharp (classical) Steklov inequalities. The obtained results directly imply sharp Steklov type inequalities for some vector fields satisfying Hörmander's condition, for example. We also give representation formulae for the $L^{2^{m}}$-Friedrichs inequalities for vector fields.

Dynamical Behavior for the Solutions of the Navier-Stokes Equation

We study the Cauchy problem for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations (NS) in three and higher spatial dimensions: \begin{align} u_t -Δu+u\cdot \nabla u +\nabla p=0, \ \ {\rm div} u=0, \ \ u(0,x)= u_0(x). \label{NSa} \end{align} Leray and Giga obtained that for the weak and mild solutions $u$ of NS in $L^p(\mathbb{R}^d)$ which blow up at finite time $T>0$, respectively, one has that for $d <p \leq \infty$, $$ \|u(t)\|_p \gtrsim ( T-t )^{-(1-d/p)/2}, \ \ 0< t<T. $$ We will obtain the blowup profile and the concentration phenomena in $L^p(\mathbb{R}^d)$ with $d\leq p\leq \infty$ for the blowup mild solution. On the other hand, if the Fourier support has the form ${\rm supp} \ \widehat{u_0} \subset \{ξ\in \mathbb{R}^n: ξ_1\geq L \}$ and $\|u_0\|_{\infty} \ll L$ for some $L >0$, then \eqref{NSa} has a unique global solution $u\in C(\mathbb{R}_+, L^\infty)$. Finally, if the blowup rate is of type I: $$ \|u(t)\|_p \sim ( T-t )^{-(1-d/p)/2}, \ for \ 0< t<T<\infty, \ d<p<\infty $$ in 3 dimensional case, then we can obtain a minimal blowup solution $Φ$ for which $$ \inf \{\limsup_{t \to T}(T-t)^{(1-3/p)/2}\|u(t)\|_{L^p_x}: \ u\in C([0,T); L^p) \mbox{\ solves \eqref{NSa}}\} $$ is attainable at some $Φ\in L^\infty (0,T; \ \dot B^{-1+6/p}_{p/2,\infty})$.

On global well-posedness for nonlinear semirelativistic equations in some scaling subcritical and critical cases

In this paper, the global well-posedness of semirelativistic equations with a power type nonlinearity on Euclidean spaces is studied. In two dimensional $H^s$ scaling subcritical case with $1 \leq s \leq 2$, the local well-posedness follows from a Strichartz estimate. In higher dimensional $H^1$ scaling subcritical case, the local well-posedness for radial solutions follows from a weighted Strichartz estimate. Moreover, in three dimensional $H^1$ scaling critical case, the local well-posedness for radial solutions follows from a uniform bound of solutions which may be derived by the corresponding one dimensional problem. Local solutions may be extended by a priori estimates.

Remarks on the Hardy type inequalities with remainder terms in the framework of equalities

We study the Hardy type inequalities in the framework of equalities. We present equalities which immediately imply Hardy type inequalities by dropping the remainder term. Simultaneously we give a characterization of the class of functions which makes the remainder term vanish. A point of our observation is to apply an orthogonality properties in general Hilbert space, and which gives a simple and direct understanding of the Hardy type inequalities as well as the nonexistence of nontrivial extremizers.

Stability of trace theorems on the sphere

We prove stable versions of trace theorems on the sphere in $L^2$ with optimal constants, thus obtaining rather precise information regarding near-extremisers. We also obtain stability for the trace theorem into $L^q$ for $q > 2$, by combining a refined Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality on the sphere with a duality-stability result proved very recently by Carlen. Finally, we extend a local version of Carlen's duality theorem to establish local stability of certain Strichartz estimates for the kinetic transport equation.

An Improvement on the Brézis-Gallouët technique for 2D NLS and 1D half-wave equation

We revise the classical approach by Brézis-Gallouët to prove global well posedness for nonlinear evolution equations. In particular we prove global well--posedness for the quartic NLS posed on general domains $Ω$ in $\R^2$ with initial data in $H^2(Ω)\cap H^1_0(Ω)$, and for the quartic nonlinear half-wave equation on $\R$ with initial data in $H^1(\R)$.

Ground states for semi-relativistic Schrödinger-Poisson-Slater energies

We prove the existence of ground states for the semi-relativistic Schrödinger-Poisson-Slater energy $$I^{α,β}(ρ)=\inf_{\substack{u\in H^\frac 12(\R^3) \int_{\R^3}|u|^2 dx=ρ}} \frac{1}{2}\|u\|^2_{H^\frac 12(\R^3)} +α\int\int_{\R^{3}\times\R^{3}} \frac{| u(x)|^{2}|u(y)|^2}{|x-y|}dxdy-β\int_{\R^{3}}|u|^{\frac{8}{3}}dx$$ $α,β>0$ and $ρ>0$ is small enough. The minimization problem is $L^2$ critical and in order to characterize of the values $α, β>0$ such that $I^{α, β}(ρ)>-\infty$ for every $ρ>0$, we prove a new lower bound on the Coulomb energy involving the kinetic energy and the exchange energy. We prove the existence of a constant $S>0$ such that $$\frac{1}{S}\frac{\|φ\|_{L^\frac 83(\R^3)}}{\|φ\|_{\dot H^\frac 12(\R^3)}^\frac 12}\leq \left (\int\int_{\R^3\times \R^3} \frac{|φ(x)|^2|φ(y)|^2}{|x-y|}dxdy\right)^\frac 18 $$ for all $φ\in C^\infty_0(\R^3)$. Eventually we show that similar compactness property fails provided that in the energy above we replace the inhomogeneous Sobolev norm $\|u\|^2_{H^\frac 12(\R^3)}$ by the homogeneous one $\|u\|_{\dot H^\frac 12(\R^3)}$.

On the Cauchy problem of fractional Schrödinger equation with Hartree type nonlinearity

We study the Cauchy problem for the fractional Schrödinger equation $$ i\partial_tu = (m^2-Δ)^\frac\alpha2 u + F(u) in \mathbb{R}^{1+n}, $$ where $ n \ge 1$, $m \ge 0$, $1 < α< 2$, and $F$ stands for the nonlinearity of Hartree type: $$F(u) = λ(\frac{ψ(\cdot)}{|\cdot|^γ} * |u|^2)u$$ with $λ= \pm1, 0 <γ< n$, and $0 \le ψ\in L^\infty(\mathbb R^n)$. We prove the existence and uniqueness of local and global solutions for certain $α$, $γ$, $λ$, $ψ$. We also remark on finite time blowup of solutions when $λ= -1$.

Small data blow-up for a system of nonlinear Schrödinger equations

We give examples of small data blow-up for a three-component system of quadratic nonlinear Schrödinger equations in one space dimension. Our construction of the blowing-up solution is based on the Hopf-Cole transformation, which allows us to reduce the problem to getting suitable growth estimates for a solution to the transformed system. Amplification in the reduced system is shown to have a close connection with the mass resonance.

A note on the null condition for quadratic nonlinear Klein-Gordon systems in two space dimensions

We consider the Cauchy problem for quadratic nonlinear Klein-Gordon systems in two space dimensions with masses satisfying the resonance relation. Under the null condition in the sense of J.-M. Delort, D. Fang, R. Xue (2004), we show the global existence of asymptotically free solutions if the initial data are sufficiently small in some weighted Sobolev space. Our proof is based on an algebraic characterization of nonlinearities satisfying the null condition.

Sufficient and Necessary Conditions for the fractional Gagliardo-Nirenberg Inequalities and applications to Navier-Stokes and generalized boson equations

Sufficient and necessary conditions for the generalized Gagliardo-Nirenberg (GN) inequality in Besov spaces and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces are obtained. Applying the GN inequality, we show that the finite-time blowup solutions have concentration phenomena in critical Lebesgue space L^3. Moreover, we consider the minimizer for a class of variational problem by applying the fractional GN inequality.

On the wave operators for the critical nonlinear Schrodinger equation

We prove that for the mass critical nonlinear Schrodinger equations, the wave operators and their inverse are related explicitly in terms of the Fourier transform. We discuss some consequences of this property. In the one-dimensional case, we show a precise similarity between the mass critical nonlinear Schrodinger equation and a nonlinear Schrodinger equation of derivative type.
