The F-method and a branching problem for generalized Verma modules associated to $({\LieGtwo},{so(7)})$

The branching problem for a couple of non-compatible Lie algebras and their parabolic subalgebras applied to generalized Verma modules was recently discussed in \cite{ms}. In the present article, we employ the recently developed F-method, \cite{KOSS1}, \cite{KOSS2} to the couple of non-compatible Lie algebras $({\LieGtwo},{so(7)})$, and generalized conformal ${so(7)}$-Verma modules of scalar type. As a result, we classify the $\LieGtwo \cap \gop'$-singular vectors for this class of $so(7)$-modules.

The branching problem for generalized Verma modules, with application to the pair $(so(7),Lie G_2)$, extended version with tables

We discuss the branching problem for generalized Verma modules $M_λ(\mathfrak g, \mathfrak p)$ applied to couples of reductive Lie algebras $\bar{\mathfrak g}\hookrightarrow \mathfrak g$. The analysis is based on projecting character formulas to quantify the branching, and on the action of the center of $U(\bar{\mathfrak g})$ to explicitly construct singular vectors realizing part of the branching. We demonstrate the results on the pair $\mathrm{Lie}G_2\hookrightarrow{so(7)}$ for both strongly and weakly compatible with $i(\mathrm {Lie} G_2)$ parabolic subalgebras and a large class of inducing representations.

Root Fernando-Kac subalgebras of finite type

Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a finite-dimensional Lie algebra and $M$ be a $\mathfrak{g}$-module. The Fernando-Kac subalgebra of $\mathfrak{g}$ associated to $M$ is the subset $\mathfrak{g}[M]\subset\mathfrak{g}$ of all elements $g\in\mathfrak{g}$ which act locally finitely on $M$. A subalgebra $\mathfrak{l}\subset\mathfrak{g}$ for which there exists an irreducible module $M$ with $\mathfrak{g}[M]=\mathfrak{l}$ is called a Fernando-Kac subalgebra of $\mathfrak{g}$. A Fernando-Kac subalgebra of $\mathfrak{g}$ is of finite type if in addition $M$ can be chosen to have finite Jordan-Hölder $\mathfrak{l}$-multiplicities. Under the assumption that $\mathfrak{g}$ is simple, I. Penkov has conjectured an explicit combinatorial criterion describing all Fernando-Kac subalgebras of finite type which contain a Cartan subalgebra. In the present paper we prove this conjecture for $\mathfrak{g}\neq E_8$.

Partial fraction decompositions and an algorithm for computing the vector partition function

This paper gives an exposition of well known results on vector partition functions. The exposition is based on works of M. Brion, A. Szenes and M. Vergne and is geared toward explicit computer realizations. In particular, the paper presents two algorithms for computing the vector partition function with respect to a finite set of vectors $I$ as a quasipolynomial over a finite set of pointed polyhedral cones. We use the developed techniques to relate a result of P. Tumarkin and A. Felikson (and present an independent proof in the particular case of finite-dimensional root systems) to give bounds for the periods of the Kostant partition functions of $E_6$, $E_7$, $E_8$, $F_4$, $G_2$ (the periods are divisors of respectively 6, 12, 60, 12, 6). The first of the described algorithms has been realized and is publicly available under the Library General Public License v3.0 at {http://vectorpartition.sourceforge.net/}. We include (non-unique) partial fraction decompositions for the generating functions of the Kostant partition function for $A_2$, $A_3$, $A_4$, $B_2$, $B_3$, $C_2$, $C_3$, $G_2$ in the appendix.
