AdvDMD: Adversarial Reward Meets DMD For High-Quality Few-Step Generation

Diffusion models offer superior generation quality at the expense of extensive sampling steps. Distillation methods, with Distribution Matching Distillation (DMD) as a popular example, can mitigate this issue, but performance degradation remains pronounced when sampling steps are limited. Reinforcement learning (RL) has been leveraged to improve the few-step generation quality during distillation, with the potential to even surpass the performance of the teacher model. However, existing approaches are combinatorial in nature, merely integrating an RL process with the distillation process, which introduces unnecessary complexities. To address this gap, we propose AdvDMD, a method that seamlessly unifies DMD distillation and RL. Specifically, AdvDMD employs the adversarially trained discriminator from DMD2 as the reward model, which assigns low scores to generated images and high scores to real ones. It is trained on both intermediate and final states of the denoising process and updated online with the distilled model, enabling a holistic supervision of the sampling trajectories and mitigating reward hacking. We adopt a unified SDE backward simulation and a different training schedule for DMD and RL to enable a more stable and efficient training. Experimental results demonstrate that the 4-step AdvDMD outperforms the original 40-step model for SD3.5 on DPG-Bench, while achieving significant performance gains for SD3 on the GenEval. On Qwen-Image, our 2-step AdvDMD achieves superior performance over TwinFlow.

Beyond Point-Wise Matching: Structural Representation Alignment for Accelerating Diffusion Transformers

Recent advances in Diffusion Transformers (DiTs) demonstrate that aligning noisy latent states with well-trained semantic features-as pioneered by Representation Alignment (REPA)-can substantially accelerate training and improve generation fidelity. Subsequent analysis(e.g., iREPA) suggests that these gains arise primarily from transferring spatial structure contained in pre-trained vision representations. However, mostly existing alignment methods employ point-wise matching objectives or rely on implicit architectural tweaks, which fail to explicitly model the spatial relational geometry inherent in vision foundation models. We argue that such element-wise supervision is insufficient to capture the rich spatial topology of visual representations, and that effective alignment for generation should instead be formulated as an explicit structural constraint. To this end, we propose sREPA, a structural REPresentation Alignment framework to enforce consistency in the relational geometry of feature maps, rather than merely matching individual feature points. By encouraging the model to internalize holistic spatial layouts and structural correlations from pre-trained features, sREPA achieves faster and more stable convergence, along with improved sample quality, compared to state-of-the-art alignment strategies. Our code and models will be released.

DDA-Thinker: Decoupled Dual-Atomic Reinforcement Learning for Reasoning-Driven Image Editing

Recent image editing models have achieved strong visual fidelity but often struggle with tasks requiring complex reasoning. To investigate and enhance the reasoning-grounded planning for image editing, we propose DDA-Thinker, a Thinker-centric framework designed for the independent optimization of a planning module (Thinker) over a fixed generative model (Editor). This decoupled Thinker-centric paradigm facilitates a controlled analysis of the planning module and makes its contribution under a fixed Editor easier to assess. To effectively guide this Thinker, we introduce a dual-atomic reinforcement learning framework. This framework decomposes feedback into two distinct atomic rewards implemented through verifiable checklists: a cognitive-atomic reward to directly assess the quality of the Thinker's executable plan, which serves as the actionable outcome of the Thinker's reasoning, and a visual-atomic reward to assess the final image quality. To improve checklist quality, our checklist synthesis is grounded not only in the source image and user instruction but also in a rational reference description of the ideal post-edit scene. To support this training, we further develop a two-stage data curation pipeline that first synthesizes a diverse and reasoning-focused dataset, then applies difficulty-aware refinement to curate an effective training curriculum for reinforcement learning. Extensive experiments on reasoning-driven image editing benchmarks, including RISE-Bench and KRIS-Bench, demonstrate that our approach substantially improves overall performance. Our method enables a community model to achieve results competitive with strong proprietary models, highlighting the practical potential of Thinker-centric optimization under a fixed-editor setting.

Edit-GRPO: A Locality-Preserving Policy Optimization Framework for Image Editing

A fundamental challenge in image editing lies in preserving spatial locality: edits should improve targeted content without inadvertently altering surrounding regions. However, most optimization-based editing approaches treat images as holistic entities, causing global policy updates that undermine locality and introduce undesired context changes. We observe that this issue stems from a mismatch between localized editing intent and globally applied optimization signals. Motivated by this insight, we propose Edit-GRPO, preserving Locality while optimizing image editing, a locality-preserving policy optimization framework that explicitly decouples editing and preservation objectives. By assigning region-specific optimization signals to edit and non-edit areas, Edit-GRPO aligns policy updates with the spatial structure of editing tasks, enabling localized improvements while maintaining global visual coherence. This design effectively suppresses common artifacts such as context distortion and boundary inconsistency. Extensive experiments across diverse image editing scenarios demonstrate that Edit-GRPO significantly improves locality preservation while maintaining strong editing performance compared to existing optimization-based methods, validating the generality and effectiveness of the proposed framework.

MusicAOG: an Energy-Based Model for Learning and Sampling a Hierarchical Representation of Symbolic Music

In addressing the challenge of interpretability and generalizability of artificial music intelligence, this paper introduces a novel symbolic representation that amalgamates both explicit and implicit musical information across diverse traditions and granularities. Utilizing a hierarchical and-or graph representation, the model employs nodes and edges to encapsulate a broad spectrum of musical elements, including structures, textures, rhythms, and harmonies. This hierarchical approach expands the representability across various scales of music. This representation serves as the foundation for an energy-based model, uniquely tailored to learn musical concepts through a flexible algorithm framework relying on the minimax entropy principle. Utilizing an adapted Metropolis-Hastings sampling technique, the model enables fine-grained control over music generation. A comprehensive empirical evaluation, contrasting this novel approach with existing methodologies, manifests considerable advancements in interpretability and controllability. This study marks a substantial contribution to the fields of music analysis, composition, and computational musicology.

Attract me to Buy: Advertisement Copywriting Generation with Multimodal Multi-structured Information

Recently, online shopping has gradually become a common way of shopping for people all over the world. Wonderful merchandise advertisements often attract more people to buy. These advertisements properly integrate multimodal multi-structured information of commodities, such as visual spatial information and fine-grained structure information. However, traditional multimodal text generation focuses on the conventional description of what existed and happened, which does not match the requirement of advertisement copywriting in the real world. Because advertisement copywriting has a vivid language style and higher requirements of faithfulness. Unfortunately, there is a lack of reusable evaluation frameworks and a scarcity of datasets. Therefore, we present a dataset, E-MMAD (e-commercial multimodal multi-structured advertisement copywriting), which requires, and supports much more detailed information in text generation. Noticeably, it is one of the largest video captioning datasets in this field. Accordingly, we propose a baseline method and faithfulness evaluation metric on the strength of structured information reasoning to solve the demand in reality on this dataset. It surpasses the previous methods by a large margin on all metrics. The dataset and method are coming soon on \url{https://e-mmad.github.io/e-mmad.net/index.html}.

CapOnImage: Context-driven Dense-Captioning on Image

Existing image captioning systems are dedicated to generating narrative captions for images, which are spatially detached from the image in presentation. However, texts can also be used as decorations on the image to highlight the key points and increase the attractiveness of images. In this work, we introduce a new task called captioning on image (CapOnImage), which aims to generate dense captions at different locations of the image based on contextual information. To fully exploit the surrounding visual context to generate the most suitable caption for each location, we propose a multi-modal pre-training model with multi-level pre-training tasks that progressively learn the correspondence between texts and image locations from easy to difficult. Since the model may generate redundant captions for nearby locations, we further enhance the location embedding with neighbor locations as context. For this new task, we also introduce a large-scale benchmark called CapOnImage2M, which contains 2.1 million product images, each with an average of 4.8 spatially localized captions. Compared with other image captioning model variants, our model achieves the best results in both captioning accuracy and diversity aspects. We will make code and datasets public to facilitate future research.

Composition-aware Graphic Layout GAN for Visual-textual Presentation Designs

In this paper, we study the graphic layout generation problem of producing high-quality visual-textual presentation designs for given images. We note that image compositions, which contain not only global semantics but also spatial information, would largely affect layout results. Hence, we propose a deep generative model, dubbed as composition-aware graphic layout GAN (CGL-GAN), to synthesize layouts based on the global and spatial visual contents of input images. To obtain training images from images that already contain manually designed graphic layout data, previous work suggests masking design elements (e.g., texts and embellishments) as model inputs, which inevitably leaves hint of the ground truth. We study the misalignment between the training inputs (with hint masks) and test inputs (without masks), and design a novel domain alignment module (DAM) to narrow this gap. For training, we built a large-scale layout dataset which consists of 60,548 advertising posters with annotated layout information. To evaluate the generated layouts, we propose three novel metrics according to aesthetic intuitions. Through both quantitative and qualitative evaluations, we demonstrate that the proposed model can synthesize high-quality graphic layouts according to image compositions.

Dual-Level Decoupled Transformer for Video Captioning

Video captioning aims to understand the spatio-temporal semantic concept of the video and generate descriptive sentences. The de-facto approach to this task dictates a text generator to learn from \textit{offline-extracted} motion or appearance features from \textit{pre-trained} vision models. However, these methods may suffer from the so-called \textbf{\textit{"couple"}} drawbacks on both \textit{video spatio-temporal representation} and \textit{sentence generation}. For the former, \textbf{\textit{"couple"}} means learning spatio-temporal representation in a single model(3DCNN), resulting the problems named \emph{disconnection in task/pre-train domain} and \emph{hard for end-to-end training}. As for the latter, \textbf{\textit{"couple"}} means treating the generation of visual semantic and syntax-related words equally. To this end, we present $\mathcal{D}^{2}$ - a dual-level decoupled transformer pipeline to solve the above drawbacks: \emph{(i)} for video spatio-temporal representation, we decouple the process of it into "first-spatial-then-temporal" paradigm, releasing the potential of using dedicated model(\textit{e.g.} image-text pre-training) to connect the pre-training and downstream tasks, and makes the entire model end-to-end trainable. \emph{(ii)} for sentence generation, we propose \emph{Syntax-Aware Decoder} to dynamically measure the contribution of visual semantic and syntax-related words. Extensive experiments on three widely-used benchmarks (MSVD, MSR-VTT and VATEX) have shown great potential of the proposed $\mathcal{D}^{2}$ and surpassed the previous methods by a large margin in the task of video captioning.

Geometry Aligned Variational Transformer for Image-conditioned Layout Generation

Layout generation is a novel task in computer vision, which combines the challenges in both object localization and aesthetic appraisal, widely used in advertisements, posters, and slides design. An accurate and pleasant layout should consider both the intra-domain relationship within layout elements and the inter-domain relationship between layout elements and the image. However, most previous methods simply focus on image-content-agnostic layout generation, without leveraging the complex visual information from the image. To this end, we explore a novel paradigm entitled image-conditioned layout generation, which aims to add text overlays to an image in a semantically coherent manner. Specifically, we propose an Image-Conditioned Variational Transformer (ICVT) that autoregressively generates various layouts in an image. First, self-attention mechanism is adopted to model the contextual relationship within layout elements, while cross-attention mechanism is used to fuse the visual information of conditional images. Subsequently, we take them as building blocks of conditional variational autoencoder (CVAE), which demonstrates appealing diversity. Second, in order to alleviate the gap between layout elements domain and visual domain, we design a Geometry Alignment module, in which the geometric information of the image is aligned with the layout representation. In addition, we construct a large-scale advertisement poster layout designing dataset with delicate layout and saliency map annotations. Experimental results show that our model can adaptively generate layouts in the non-intrusive area of the image, resulting in a harmonious layout design.

Learning Pixel-Level Distinctions for Video Highlight Detection

The goal of video highlight detection is to select the most attractive segments from a long video to depict the most interesting parts of the video. Existing methods typically focus on modeling relationship between different video segments in order to learning a model that can assign highlight scores to these segments; however, these approaches do not explicitly consider the contextual dependency within individual segments. To this end, we propose to learn pixel-level distinctions to improve the video highlight detection. This pixel-level distinction indicates whether or not each pixel in one video belongs to an interesting section. The advantages of modeling such fine-level distinctions are two-fold. First, it allows us to exploit the temporal and spatial relations of the content in one video, since the distinction of a pixel in one frame is highly dependent on both the content before this frame and the content around this pixel in this frame. Second, learning the pixel-level distinction also gives a good explanation to the video highlight task regarding what contents in a highlight segment will be attractive to people. We design an encoder-decoder network to estimate the pixel-level distinction, in which we leverage the 3D convolutional neural networks to exploit the temporal context information, and further take advantage of the visual saliency to model the spatial distinction. State-of-the-art performance on three public benchmarks clearly validates the effectiveness of our framework for video highlight detection.

Self-Supervised Text Erasing with Controllable Image Synthesis

Recent efforts on scene text erasing have shown promising results. However, existing methods require rich yet costly label annotations to obtain robust models, which limits the use for practical applications. To this end, we study an unsupervised scenario by proposing a novel Self-supervised Text Erasing (STE) framework that jointly learns to synthesize training images with erasure ground-truth and accurately erase texts in the real world. We first design a style-aware image synthesis function to generate synthetic images with diverse styled texts based on two synthetic mechanisms. To bridge the text style gap between the synthetic and real-world data, a policy network is constructed to control the synthetic mechanisms by picking style parameters with the guidance of two specifically designed rewards. The synthetic training images with erasure ground-truth are then fed to train a coarse-to-fine erasing network. To produce better erasing outputs, a triplet erasure loss is designed to enforce the refinement stage to recover background textures. Moreover, we provide a new dataset (called PosterErase), which contains 60K high-resolution posters with texts and is more challenging for the text erasing task. The proposed method has been extensively evaluated with both PosterErase and the widely-used SCUT-Enstext dataset. Notably, on PosterErase, our unsupervised method achieves 5.07 in terms of FID, with a relative performance of 20.9% over existing supervised baselines.

Structure-Aware Motion Transfer with Deformable Anchor Model

Given a source image and a driving video depicting the same object type, the motion transfer task aims to generate a video by learning the motion from the driving video while preserving the appearance from the source image. In this paper, we propose a novel structure-aware motion modeling approach, the deformable anchor model (DAM), which can automatically discover the motion structure of arbitrary objects without leveraging their prior structure information. Specifically, inspired by the known deformable part model (DPM), our DAM introduces two types of anchors or keypoints: i) a number of motion anchors that capture both appearance and motion information from the source image and driving video; ii) a latent root anchor, which is linked to the motion anchors to facilitate better learning of the representations of the object structure information. Moreover, DAM can be further extended to a hierarchical version through the introduction of additional latent anchors to model more complicated structures. By regularizing motion anchors with latent anchor(s), DAM enforces the correspondences between them to ensure the structural information is well captured and preserved. Moreover, DAM can be learned effectively in an unsupervised manner. We validate our proposed DAM for motion transfer on different benchmark datasets. Extensive experiments clearly demonstrate that DAM achieves superior performance relative to existing state-of-the-art methods.

A Hybrid Bandit Model with Visual Priors for Creative Ranking in Display Advertising

Creative plays a great important role in e-commerce for exhibiting products. Sellers usually create multiple creatives for comprehensive demonstrations, thus it is crucial to display the most appealing design to maximize the Click-Through Rate~(CTR). For this purpose, modern recommender systems dynamically rank creatives when a product is proposed for a user. However, this task suffers more cold-start problem than conventional products recommendation In this paper, we propose a hybrid bandit model with visual priors which first makes predictions with a visual evaluation, and then naturally evolves to focus on the specialities through the hybrid bandit model. Our contributions are three-fold: 1) We present a visual-aware ranking model (called VAM) that incorporates a list-wise ranking loss for ordering the creatives according to the visual appearance. 2) Regarding visual evaluations as a prior, the hybrid bandit model (called HBM) is proposed to evolve consistently to make better posteriori estimations by taking more observations into consideration for online scenarios. 3) A first large-scale creative dataset, CreativeRanking, is constructed, which contains over 1.7M creatives of 500k products as well as their real impression and click data. Extensive experiments have also been conducted on both our dataset and public Mushroom dataset, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Automated Creative Optimization for E-Commerce Advertising

Advertising creatives are ubiquitous in E-commerce advertisements and aesthetic creatives may improve the click-through rate (CTR) of the products. Nowadays smart advertisement platforms provide the function of compositing creatives based on source materials provided by advertisers. Since a great number of creatives can be generated, it is difficult to accurately predict their CTR given a limited amount of feedback. Factorization machine (FM), which models inner product interaction between features, can be applied for the CTR prediction of creatives. However, interactions between creative elements may be more complex than the inner product, and the FM-estimated CTR may be of high variance due to limited feedback. To address these two issues, we propose an Automated Creative Optimization (AutoCO) framework to model complex interaction between creative elements and to balance between exploration and exploitation. Specifically, motivated by AutoML, we propose one-shot search algorithms for searching effective interaction functions between elements. We then develop stochastic variational inference to estimate the posterior distribution of parameters based on the reparameterization trick, and apply Thompson Sampling for efficiently exploring potentially better creatives. We evaluate the proposed method with both a synthetic dataset and two public datasets. The experimental results show our method can outperform competing baselines with respect to cumulative regret. The online A/B test shows our method leads to a 7 increase in CTR compared to the baseline.

Efficient Optimal Selection for Composited Advertising Creatives with Tree Structure

Ad creatives are one of the prominent mediums for online e-commerce advertisements. Ad creatives with enjoyable visual appearance may increase the click-through rate (CTR) of products. Ad creatives are typically handcrafted by advertisers and then delivered to the advertising platforms for advertisement. In recent years, advertising platforms are capable of instantly compositing ad creatives with arbitrarily designated elements of each ingredient, so advertisers are only required to provide basic materials. While facilitating the advertisers, a great number of potential ad creatives can be composited, making it difficult to accurately estimate CTR for them given limited real-time feedback. To this end, we propose an Adaptive and Efficient ad creative Selection (AES) framework based on a tree structure. The tree structure on compositing ingredients enables dynamic programming for efficient ad creative selection on the basis of CTR. Due to limited feedback, the CTR estimator is usually of high variance. Exploration techniques based on Thompson sampling are widely used for reducing variances of the CTR estimator, alleviating feedback sparsity. Based on the tree structure, Thompson sampling is adapted with dynamic programming, leading to efficient exploration for potential ad creatives with the largest CTR. We finally evaluate the proposed algorithm on the synthetic dataset and the real-world dataset. The results show that our approach can outperform competing baselines in terms of convergence rate and overall CTR.
