Product Inequalities for Multivariate Gaussian, Gamma, and Positively Upper Orthant Dependent Distributions

The Gaussian product inequality is an important conjecture concerning the moments of Gaussian random vectors. While all attempts to prove the Gaussian product inequality in full generality have been unsuccessful to date, numerous partial results have been derived in recent decades and we provide here further results on the problem. Most importantly, we establish a strong version of the Gaussian product inequality for multivariate gamma distributions in the case of nonnegative correlations, thereby extending a result recently derived by Genest and Ouimet [5]. Further, we show that the Gaussian product inequality holds with nonnegative exponents for all random vectors with positive components whenever the underlying vector is positively upper orthant dependent. Finally, we show that the Gaussian product inequality with negative exponents follows directly from the Gaussian correlation inequality.

A Note on the Existence of the Multivariate Gamma Distribution

The p-variate gamma distribution in the sense of Krishnamoorthy and Parthasarathy exists for all positive integer degrees of freedom d and at least for all real values d > p-2, p > 1. For special structures of the "associated" covariance matrix it also exists for all positive d. In this paper a relation between central and non-central multivariate gamma distributions is shown, which implies the existence of the p-variate gamma distribution at least for all non-integer d greater than the integer part of (p-1)/2 without any additional assumptions for the associated covariance matrix.

Non-Central Multivariate Chi-Square and Gamma Distributions

A (p-1)-variate integral representation is given for the cumulative distribution function of the general p-variate non-central gamma distribution with a non-centrality matrix of any admissible rank. The real part of products of well known analytical functions is integrated over arguments from (-pi,pi). To facilitate the computation, these formulas are given more detailed for p=2 and p=3. These (p-1)-variate integrals are also derived for the diagonal of a non-central complex Wishart Matrix. Furthermore, some alternative formulas are given for the cases with an associated "one-factorial" (pxp)-correlation matrix R, i.e. R differs from a suitable diagonal matrix only by a matrix of rank 1, which holds in particular for all (3x3)-R with no vanishing correlation.

Some probability inequalities for multivariate gamma and normal distributions

The Gaussian correlation inequality for multivariate zero-mean normal probabilities of symmetrical n-rectangles can be considered as an inequality for multivariate gamma distributions (in the sense of Krishnamoorthy and Parthasarathy [5]) with one degree of freedom. Its generalization to all integer degrees of freedom and sufficiently large non-integer "degrees of freedom" was recently proved in [10]. Here, this inequality is partly extended to smaller non-integer degrees of freedom and in particular - in a weaker form - to all infinitely divisible multivariate gamma distributions. A further monotonicity property - sometimes called "more PLOD (positively lower orthant dependent)" - for increasing correlations is proved for multivariate gamma distributions with integer or sufficiently large degrees of freedom.

The distribution of the square sum of Dirichlet random variables and a table with quantiles of Greenwood's statistic

The exact distribution of the square sum of Dirichlet random variables is given by two different univariate integral representations. Alternatively, three representations by orthogonal series with Jacobi or Legendre polynomials are derived. As a special case the distribution of the square sum of spacings - also called Greenwood's statistic - is obtained. Nine quantiles of this statistic are tabulated with eight digits where the number of squares ranges from 10 to 100.
