The structure of weight and function classes with coprime bases

In a recent work of Anderson and Hu, the authors constructed a measure that was $p$-adic and $q$-adic doubling, for any primes $p$ and $q$, yet not doubling. This work relied heavily on a developed number theory framework. Here we develop this framework farther, which yields a measure that is $m$-adic and $n$-adic doubling for any coprime $m,n$, yet not doubling. Additionally we show several new applications to the intersection of weight and the function classes.

Bounds for discrete multilinear spherical maximal functions

We define a discrete version of the bilinear spherical maximal function, and show bilinear $l^{p}(\mathbb{Z}^d)\times l^{q}(\mathbb{Z}^d) \to l^{r}(\mathbb{Z}^d)$ bounds for $d \geq 3$, $\frac{1}{p} + \frac{1}{q} \geq \frac{1}{r}$, $r>\frac{d}{d-2}$ and $p,q\geq 1$. Due to interpolation, the key estimate is an $l^{p}(\mathbb{Z}^d)\times l^{\infty}(\mathbb{Z}^d) \to l^{p}(\mathbb{Z}^d)$ bound, which holds when $d \geq 3$, $p>\frac{d}{d-2}$. A key feature of our argument is the use of the circle method which allows us to decouple the dimension from the number of functions compared to the work of Cook.

Bounds for discrete multilinear spherical maximal functions in higher dimensions

We find the sharp range for boundedness of the discrete bilinear spherical maximal function for dimensions $d \geq 5$. That is, we show that this operator is bounded on $l^{p}(\mathbb{Z}^d)\times l^{q}(\mathbb{Z}^d) \to l^{r}(\mathbb{Z}^d)$ for $\frac{1}{p} + \frac{1}{q} \geq \frac{1}{r}$ and $r>\frac{d}{2d-2}$ and we show this range is sharp. Our approach mirrors that used by Jeong and Lee in the continuous setting. For dimensions $d=3,4$, our previous work, which used different techniques, still gives the best known bounds. We also prove analogous results for higher degree $k$, $\ell$-linear operators.

Discrete maximal operators over surfaces of higher codimension

Integration over curved manifolds with higher codimension and, separately, discrete variants of continuous operators, have been two important, yet separate themes in harmonic analysis, discrete geometry and analytic number theory research. Here we unite these themes to study discrete analogues of operators involving higher (intermediate) codimensional integration. We consider a maximal operator that averages over triangular configurations and prove several bounds that are close to optimal. A distinct feature of our approach is the use of multilinearity to obtain nontrivial $\ell^1$-estimates by a rather general idea that is likely to be applicable to other problems.

On the general dyadic grids in $\mathbb{R}^d$

Adjacent dyadic systems are pivotal in analysis and related fields to study continuous objects via collections of dyadic ones. In our prior work (joint with Jiang, Olson and Wei) we describe precise necessary and sufficient conditions for two dyadic systems on the real line to be adjacent. Here we extend this work to all dimensions, which turns out to have many surprising difficulties due to the fact that $d+1$, not $2^d$, grids is the optimal number in an adjacent dyadic system in $\mathbb{R}^d$. As a byproduct, we show that a collection of $d+1$ dyadic systems in $\mathbb{R}^d$ is adjacent if and only if the projection of any two of them onto any coordinate axis are adjacent on $\mathbb{R}$. The underlying geometric structures that arise in this higher dimensional generalization are interesting objects themselves, ripe for future study; these lead us to a compact, geometric description of our main result. We describe these structures, along with what adjacent dyadic (and $n$-adic, for any $n$) systems look like, from a variety of contexts, relating them to previous work, as well as illustrating a specific example.

Spherical means on the Heisenberg group: Stability of a maximal function estimate

Consider the surface measure $μ$ on a sphere in a nonvertical hyperplane on the Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}^n$, $n\ge 2$, and the convolution $f*μ$. Form the associated maximal function $Mf=\sup_{t>0}|f*μ_t|$ generated by the automorphic dilations. We use decoupling inequalities due to Wolff and Bourgain-Demeter to prove $L^p$-boundedness of $M$ in an optimal range.

Weak A_\infty weights and weak Reverse Hölder property in a space of homogeneous type

In the Euclidean setting, the Fujii-Wilson-type $A_\infty$ weights satisfy a Reverse Hölder Inequality (RHI) but in spaces of homogeneous type the best known result has been that $A_\infty$ weights satisfy only a weak Reverse Hölder Inequality. In this paper, we compliment the results of Hytönen, Pérez and Rela and show that there exist both $A_\infty$ weights that do not satisfy an RHI and a genuinely weaker weight class that still satisfies a weak RHI. We also show that all the weights that satisfy a weak RHI have a self-improving property but the self-improving property of the strong Reverse Hölder weights fails in a general space of homogeneous type. We prove most of these purely non-dyadic results using convenient dyadic systems and techniques.

A new sufficient two-weighted bump assumption for $L^p$ boundedness of Calderón-Zygmund operators

We present new results on the two-weighted boundedness of singular integral operators and $L^p$ boundedness of the Orlicz maximal function. Namely, we extend a theorem of Pérez regarding the necessary and sufficient conditions for the boundedness of the Orlicz maximal function as well as give a new sufficient two-weighted boundedness assumption for Calderón-Zygmund singular integrals.

Calderón-Zygmund operators and commutators in spaces of homogeneous type: weighted inequalities

The recent proof of the sharp weighted bound for Calderón-Zygmund operators has led to much investigation in sharp mixed bounds for operators and commutators, that is, a sharp weighted bound that is a product of at least two different $A_p$ weight constants. The reason why these are sought after is that the product will be strictly smaller than the original one-constant bound. We prove a variety of these bounds in spaces of homogeneous type, using the new techniques of Lerner, for both operators and commutators.

Logarithmic bump conditions for Calderón-Zygmund Operators on spaces of homogeneous type

We establish two-weight norm inequalities for singular integral operators defined on spaces of homogeneous type. We do so first when the weights satisfy a double bump condition and then when the weights satisfy separated logarithmic bump conditions. Our results generalize recent work on the Euclidean case, but our proofs are simpler even in this setting. The other interesting feature of our approach is that we are able to prove the separated bump results (which always imply the corresponding double bump results) as a consequence of the double bump theorem.
