On the Kottwitz conjecture for local shtuka spaces

Kottwitz's conjecture describes the contribution of a supercuspidal represention to the cohomology of a local Shimura variety in terms of the local Langlands correspondence. A natural extension of this conjecture concerns Scholze's more general spaces of local shtukas. Using a new Lefschetz-Verdier trace formula for v-stacks, we prove the extended conjecture, disregarding the action of the Weil group, and modulo a virtual representation whose character vanishes on the locus of elliptic elements. As an application, we show that for an irreducible smooth representation of an inner form of $\mathrm{GL}_n$, the $L$-parameter constructed by Fargues-Scholze agrees with the usual semisimplified parameter arising from local Langlands.

On L-embeddings and double covers of tori over local fields

To a torus T over a local field F and a subset of its character module subject to certain properties, we associate a canonical double cover of the topological group T(F). We further associate an L-group to this double cover and establish a natural bijection between L-parameters valued in this L-group and genuine characters of the double cover. When T is a maximal torus of a connected reductive group G, we show that there is a canonical L-embedding from the L-group of the double cover of T to the L-group of G. This leads to a canonical factorization of Langlands parameters. We associate to a genuine character of the double cover subject to certain conditions a Harish-Chandra character formula and use it to give a conjectural characterization of the supercuspidal local Langlands correspondence for G, subject to a certain condition on p. This generalizes previous work of Adams and Vogan F=R, and reinterprets computations of Langlands and Shelstad.

Supercuspidal L-packets

Let F be a non-archimedean local field and let G be a connected reductive group defined over F. We assume that G splits over a tame extension of F and that the residual characteristic p does not divide the order of the Weyl group. To each discrete Langlands parameter of the Weil group of F into the complex L-group of G we associate explicitly a finite set of irreducible supercuspidal representations of G(F), and relate its internal structure to the centralizer of the parameter. We give evidence that this assignment is an explicit realization of the local Langlands correspondence.

Global rigid inner forms and multiplicities of discrete automorphic representations

Given a number field we construct a canonical Galois gerbe over it and show that its cohomology provides a bridge between the refined local endoscopy introduced in arXiv:1304.3292 and classical global endoscopy. As particular applications, we express the canonical adelic transfer factor that governs the stabilization of the Arthur-Selberg trace formula as a product of normalized local transfer factors, we give an explicit construction of the pairing between an adelic L-packet and the corresponding S-group (based on the conjectural pairings in the local setting) that is the essential ingredient in the description of the discrete automorphic spectrum of a reductive group, and we give a proof of some expectations of Arthur.

Rigid inner forms of real and p-adic groups

We define a new cohomology set for an affine algebraic group G and a multiplicative finite central subgroup Z, both defined over a local field of characteristic zero, which is an enlargement of the usual first Galois cohomology set of G. We show how this set can be used to normalize the Langlands-Shelstad endoscopic transfer factors and to give a conjectural description of the internal structure and endoscopic transfer of L-packets for arbitrary connected reductive groups that extends the well-known conjectural description for quasi-split groups. In the real case, we show that this description is correct using Shelstad's work.

Rigid inner forms vs isocrystals

We compare two statements of the refined local Langlands correspondence for connected reductive groups defined over a p-adic field -- one involving Kottwitz's set B(G) of isocrystals with additional structure, and one involving the cohomology set H^1(u -> W,Z -> G) introduced in arXiv:1304.3292. We show that if either statement is valid for all connected reductive groups, then so is the other. We also discuss how the second statement depends on the choice of element of H^1(u -> W,Z -> G).

Endoscopic Classification of Representations: Inner Forms of Unitary Groups

We classify the automorphic representations (over number fields) and the irreducible admissible representations (over local fields) of unitary groups which are not quasi-split, under the assumption that the same is known for quasi-split unitary groups. The classification of automorphic representations is given in terms of automorphic representations of general linear groups. The classification of irreducible admissible representations is given in terms of Langlands parameters.

Epipelagic L-packets and rectifying characters

We provide an explicit construction of the local Langlands correspondence for general tamely-ramified reductive p-adic groups and a class of wildly ramified Langlands parameters. Furthermore, we verify that our construction satisfies the expected properties of such a correspondence. More precisely, we show that each L-packet we construct admits a parameterization in terms of the Langlands dual group, contains a unique generic element for a fixed Whittaker datum, satisfies the formal degree conjecture, is compatible with twists by central and cocentral characters, provides a stable virtual character, and satisfies the expected endoscopic character identities. Moreover, we show that in the case of GL_n, our construction coincides with the one given by Bushnell and Henniart. Our results suggest a general approach to the construction of the local Langlands correspondence for tamely-ramified groups and regular supercuspidal parameters.

Genericity and contragredience in the local Langlands correspondence

We prove the recent conjectures of Adams-Vogan and D. Prasad on the behavior of the local Langlands correspondence with respect to taking the contragredient of a representation. The proof holds for tempered representations of quasi-split real K-groups and quasi-split p-adic classical groups (in the sense of Arthur). We also prove a formula for the behavior of the local Langlands correspondence for these groups with respect to changes of the Whittaker data.

Simple wild L-packets

In a recent paper, Gross and Reeder study arithmetic properties of discrete Langlands parameters for semi-simple p-adic groups and conjecture that a special class of these -- the simple wild parameters -- should correspond to L-packets consisting of simple supercuspidal representations. We provide a construction of this correspondence and show that the simple wild L-packets satisfy many expected properties. In particular, they admit a description in terms of the Langlands dual group and contain a unique generic element for a fixed Whittaker datum. Moreover, we prove their stability on an open subset of the regular semi-simple elements, and show that they satisfy a natural compatibility with respect to unramified base-change.

Supercuspidal L-packets via isocrystals

In a recent paper, DeBacker and Reeder construct and parameterize L-packets on pure inner forms of unramified p-adic groups, that consist of depth zero supercuspidal representations. We generalize their work to non-pure inner forms, by providing an alternative construction based on the theory of isocrystals with additional structure due to Kottwitz. Furthermore, we show the stability and endoscopic transfer for these L-packets.
