$p$-adic sheaves on classifying stacks, and the $p$-adic Jacquet-Langlands correspondence

We establish several new properties of the $p$-adic Jacquet-Langlands functor defined by Scholze in terms of the cohomology of the Lubin-Tate tower. In particular, we reprove Scholze's basic finiteness theorems, prove a duality theorem, and show a kind of partial Künneth formula. Using these results, we deduce bounds on Gelfand-Kirillov dimension, together with some new vanishing and nonvanishing results. Our key new tool is the six functor formalism with solid almost $\mathcal{O}^+/p$-coefficients developed recently by the second author [Man22]. One major point of this paper is to extend the domain of validity of the $!$-functor formalism developed in [Man22] to allow certain "stacky" maps. In the language of this extended formalism, we show that if $G$ is a $p$-adic Lie group, the structure map of the classifying small v-stack $B\underline{G}$ is $p$-cohomologically smooth.

On the Kottwitz conjecture for local shtuka spaces

Kottwitz's conjecture describes the contribution of a supercuspidal represention to the cohomology of a local Shimura variety in terms of the local Langlands correspondence. A natural extension of this conjecture concerns Scholze's more general spaces of local shtukas. Using a new Lefschetz-Verdier trace formula for v-stacks, we prove the extended conjecture, disregarding the action of the Weil group, and modulo a virtual representation whose character vanishes on the locus of elliptic elements. As an application, we show that for an irreducible smooth representation of an inner form of $\mathrm{GL}_n$, the $L$-parameter constructed by Fargues-Scholze agrees with the usual semisimplified parameter arising from local Langlands.

On $p$-adic $L$-functions for Hilbert modular forms

We construct $p$-adic $L$-functions associated with $p$-refined cohomological cuspidal Hilbert modular forms over any totally real field under a mild hypothesis. Our construction is canonical, varies naturally in $p$-adic families, and does not require any small slope or non-criticality assumptions on the $p$-refinement. The main new ingredients are an adelic definition of a canonical map from overconvergent cohomology to a space of locally analytic distributions on the relevant Galois group and a smoothness theorem for certain eigenvarieties at critically refined points.

Overconvergent modular forms and perfectoid Shimura curves

We give a new construction of overconvergent modular forms of arbitrary weights, defining them in terms of functions on certain affinoid subsets of Scholze's infinite-level modular curve. These affinoid subsets, and a certain canonical coordinate on them, play a role in our construction which is strongly analogous with the role of the upper half-plane and its coordinate `z' in the classical analytic theory of modular forms. As one application of these ideas, we define and study an overconvergent Eichler-Shimura map in the context of compact Shimura curves over $\mathbb{Q}$, proving stronger analogues of results of Andreatta-Iovita-Stevens.

Iwasawa theory of overconvergent modular forms, I: Critical $p$-adic $L$-functions

We construct an Euler system of $p$-adic zeta elements over the eigencurve which interpolates Kato's zeta elements over all classical points. Applying a big regulator map gives rise to a purely algebraic construction of a two-variable $p$-adic $L$-function over the eigencurve. As a first application of these ideas, we prove the equality of the $p$-adic $L$-functions associated with a critical-slope refinement of a modular form by the works of Bellaïche/Pollack-Stevens and Kato/Perrin-Riou.

Universal eigenvarieties, trianguline Galois representations, and p-adic Langlands functoriality

Using the overconvergent cohomology modules introduced by Ash and Stevens, we construct eigenvarieties associated with reductive groups and establish some basic geometric properties of these spaces, building on work of Ash-Stevens, Urban, and others. We also formulate a precise modularity conjecture linking trianguline Galois representations with overconvergent cohomology classes. In the course of giving evidence for this conjecture, we establish several new instances of \emph{p-}adic Langlands functoriality. Our main technical innovations are a family of universal coefficients spectral sequences for overconvergent cohomology and a generalization of Chenevier's interpolation theorem.

Universal coefficients for overconvergent cohomology and the geometry of eigenvarieties

We prove a universal coefficients theorem for the overconvergent cohomology modules introduced by Ash and Stevens, and give several applications. In particular, we sketch a very simple construction of eigenvarieties using overconvergent cohomology and prove many instances of a conjecture of Urban on the dimensions of these spaces. For example, when the underlying reductive group is an inner form of GL(2) over a quadratic imaginary extension of the rationals, the cuspidal component of the eigenvariety is a rigid analytic curve.
