Phase-dependent controllable field generation in a ring cavity resonator

We investigate the control field phase-dependent output field transmission from a red detuned ring cavity optomechanical system. Our scheme displays a double transparency window in the presence of a strong control and a weak probe field. Additionally, we invoke an external mechanical pump to one of the movable mirrors to modulate its vibration. Complete control over the output field transmission can be achieved due to the combined effect of the amplitudes and the phases of the mechanical pump and the control field. Further, a tunable group delay of the probe pulse propagation can be obtained by the tailoring of the control field phase in the presence of a suitable mechanical drive. We further discuss the effect of control field phase on Stokes field generation via the four-wave mixing process. This scheme may find potential applications in weak signal sensing and all-optical communication purposes.

Efficient cloning and dragging of microwave pulse into optical frequency pulse in a Doppler-broadened atomic medium

The propagation of a weak optical pulse through an atomic system in closed $Λ$ configuration is investigated in which the hyper fine levels are coupled by a microwave pulse. Under three photon resonance condition, it is observed that the probe pulse shape gets cloned by the shape of the microwave pulse along propagation through the medium. The temporal position of the probe pulse is dragged to that of the microwave pulse. A simple expression for the linear susceptibility of the medium for the corresponding transition is derived in the Fourier domain. From the numerical analysis of dynamics using this expression, it is concluded that the novel effect arises from the ground state coherence of the hyper fine transitions induced by the microwave pulse.

Pulse-splitting in light propagation through $N$-type atomic media due to an interplay of Kerr-nonlinearity and group velocity dispersion

We investigate the spatio-temporal evolution of a Gaussian probe pulse propagating through a four-level $N$-type atomic medium. At two-photon resonance of probe-and control fields, weaker probe pulses may propagate through the medium with low absorption and pulse shape distortion. In contrast, we find that increasing the probe pulse intensity leads to a splitting of the initially Gaussian pulse into a sequence of subpulses in the time domain. The number of subpulses arising throughout the propagation can be controlled via a suitable choice of the probe and control field parameters. Employing a simple theoretical model for the nonlinear pulse propagation, we conclude that the splitting occurs due to an interplay of Kerr nonlinearity and group velocity dispersion.

Steering, Splitting and Cloning of Optical Beam in a Coherently Driven Raman Gain System

We propose an all-optical anti-waveguide mechanism for steering, splitting, and cloning of an optical beam beyond the diffraction-limit. We use a spatially inhomogeneous pump beam to create an anti-waveguide structure in a Doppler broadened N -type four-level Raman gain medium for a co-propagating weak probe beam. We show that a transverse modulated index of refraction and gain due to the spatially dependent pump beam hold the keys to steering, splitting and cloning of an optical beam. We have also shown that an additional control field permits the propagation of an optical beam through an otherwise gain medium without diffraction and instability. We further discuss how finesse of the cloned images can be increased by changing the detuning and intensity of the control field.

Enhancement of image resolution beyond the diffraction-limit by interacting dark resonances

We show how quantum coherence effects can be used to improve the resolution and the contrast of diffraction-limited images imprinted onto a probe field. The narrow and sharp spectral features generated by double-dark resonances (DDR) are exploited to control absorption, dispersion and diffraction properties of the medium. The spatial modulated control field can produce inhomoge- neous susceptibility of the medium that encodes the spatial feature of the control image to probe field in the presence of DDR. The transmission of cloned image can be enhanced by use of incoher- ent pump field. We find that the feature size of cloned image is four times smaller than the initial characteristic size of the control image even though the control image is completely distorted after propagation through 3 cm long Rb vapour cell. We further discuss how spatial optical switching is possible by using of induced transparency and absorption of the medium.

Microwave controlled efficient Raman and sub-Raman generation

We propose an efficient scheme for the generation and the manipulation of Raman fields in an homogeneously broadened atomic vapor in a closed three levels $Λ$-configuration. The key concept in generating the Raman and sub-Raman fields efficiently at lower optical densities involve the microwave induced atomic coherence of the lower levels. We show explicitly that, generation efficiency of the Raman fields can be controlled by manipulating the coherences via phase and amplitude of the microwave field.
