Metal-insulator transition in (2+1)-dimensional Hubbard model with tensor renormalization group

We investigate the doping-driven metal-insulator transition of the (2+1)-dimensional Hubbard model in the path-integral formalism with the tensor renormalization group method. We calculate the electron density $\langle n\rangle$ as a function of the chemical potential $μ$ choosing three values of the Coulomb potential with $U=80$, $8$, and $2$ as representative cases of the strong, intermediate, and weak couplings. We have determined the critical chemical potential at each $U$, where the Hubbard model undergoes the metal-insulator transition from the half-filling plateau with $\langle n\rangle=1$ to the metallic state with $\langle n\rangle > 1$. Our results indicate that the model exhibits the metal-insulator transition over the vast region of the finite coupling $U$.

A Parallel Computing Method for the Higher Order Tensor Renormalization Group

In this paper, we propose a parallel computing method for the Higher Order Tensor Renormalization Group (HOTRG) applied to a $d$-dimensional $( d \geq 2 )$ simple lattice model. Sequential computation of the HOTRG requires $O ( χ^{4 d - 1} )$ computational cost, where $χ$ is bond dimension, in a step to contract indices of tensors. When we simply distribute elements of a local tensor to each process in parallel computing of the HOTRG, frequent communication between processes occurs. The simplest way to avoid such communication is to hold all the tensor elements in each process, however, it requires $O ( χ^{2d} )$ memory space. In the presented method, placement of a local tensor element to more than one process is accepted and sufficient local tensor elements are distributed to each process to avoid communication between processes during considering computation step. For the bottleneck part of computational cost, such distribution is achieved by distributing elements of two local tensors to $χ^2$ processes according to one of the indices of each local tensor which are not contracted during considering computation. In the case of $d \geq 3$, computational cost in each process is reduced to $O ( χ^{4 d - 3} )$ and memory space requirement in each process is kept to be $O ( χ^{2d - 1} )$.

Restoration of chiral symmetry in cold and dense Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with tensor renormalization group

We analyze the chiral phase transition of the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model in the cold and dense region on the lattice developing the Grassmann version of the anisotropic tensor renormalization group algorithm. The model is formulated with the Kogut--Susskind fermion action. We use the chiral condensate as an order parameter to investigate the restoration of the chiral symmetry. The first-order chiral phase transition is clearly observed in the dense region at vanishing temperature with $μ/T\sim O(10^3)$ on a large volume of $V=1024^4$. We also present the results for the equation of state.

A new subtraction-free formula for lower bounds of the minimal singular value of an upper bidiagonal matrix

Traces of inverse powers of a positive definite symmetric tridiagonal matrix give lower bounds of the minimal singular value of an upper bidiagonal matrix. In a preceding work, a formula for the traces which gives the diagonal entries of the inverse powers is presented. In this paper, we present another formula which gives the traces based on a quite different idea from the one in the preceding work. An efficient implementation of the formula for practice is also presented.

A unified understanding of the two formulae for the traces of the inverse powers of a positive definite symmetric tridiagonal matrix

For an upper bidiagonal matrix $B$ where all the diagonal and the upper subdiagonal entries are positive, two subtraction-free formulae for computation of the traces $J_{M} ( B ) = \textrm{Tr} ( ( B^{\top} B )^{- M} ) = \textrm{Tr} ( ( B B^{\top} )^{- M} )$ $( M = 1, 2, \dots )$ have been presented in the two preceding works. A few lower bounds of the minimal singular value of $B$ are obtained from these traces. In this paper, we clarify some properties of these formulae and present a new subtraction-free formula for the traces $J_{M} ( B )$. An interpretation of some quantities in one of the preceding works in terms of matrix theory is given. Some relationships between some quantities in the preceding works are also given. From these relationships, the new subtraction-free formula for the traces $J_{M} ( B )$ is obtained.
