Intrinsic Characterization of 33-dimensional Riemannian submanifolds of R4\mathbb{R}^4

It is well known that an mm-dimensional Riemannian manifold can be locally isometrically embedded into the m+1m+1-dimensional Euclidean space if and only if there exists a symmetric 2-tensor field satisfying the Gauss and Codazzi equations. In this paper, we prove that two known intrinsic conditions, which were obtained previously by Weiss, Thomas and Rivertz, are sufficient to ensure the existence of such symmetric 2-tensor field under certain generic condition when m=3m=3. Note that, in the case m=3m=3, a symmetric 2-tensor field satisfying the Gauss equation does not satisfy the Codazzi equation automatically, which is different from the cases m≥4m \geq 4. In our proof, the symbolic method, which is a famous tool known in classical invariant theory, plays an important role. As applications of our result, we consider 33-dimensional warped product Riemannian manifolds whether they can be locally isometrically embedded into R4\mathbb{R}^4. In some case, the Monge-Ampère equation naturally appears.

Milnor-type theorems for left-invariant Riemannian metrics on Lie groups

For all left-invariant Riemannian metrics on three-dimensional unimodular Lie groups, there exist particular left-invariant orthonormal frames, so-called Milnor frames. In this paper, for any left-invariant Riemannian metrics on any Lie groups, we give a procedure to obtain an analogous of Milnor frames, in the sense that the bracket relations among them can be written with relatively smaller number of parameters. Our procedure is based on the moduli space of left-invariant Riemannian metrics. Some explicit examples of such frames and applications will also be given.

Three-dimensional solvsolitons and the minimality of the corresponding submanifolds

In this paper, we define the corresponding submanifolds to left-invariant Riemannian metrics on Lie groups, and study the following question: does a distinguished left-invariant Riemannian metric on a Lie group correspond to a distinguished submanifold? As a result, we prove that the solvsolitons on three-dimensional simply-connected solvable Lie groups are completely characterized by the minimality of the corresponding submanifolds.
