Amplitude analysis and branching fraction measurement of J/ψ→ΛΣˉ0η+c.cJ/ψ\to Λ\barΣ^0η+\mathrm{c.c}

Based on a sample of (10087±44)×106(10087\pm44)\times10^{6} J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector, a partial-wave analysis of J/ψ→ΛΣˉ0η+c.c J/ψ\to Λ\bar{ Σ}^0η+\mathrm{c.c} is performed for the first time. The dominant contributions are found to be excited ΛΛ states with JP=1/2−J^P=1/2^- and JP=1/2+J^P=1/2^+ in the ηΛηΛ mass spectra. The measured masses and widths are M=1668.8±3.1±21.2M=1668.8\pm3.1\pm21.2 MeV/c2c^2 and Γ=52.7±4.2±17.8Γ=52.7\pm4.2\pm17.8 MeV for the Λ(1670)Λ(1670), and M=1881.5±16.5±20.3M=1881.5\pm16.5\pm20.3 MeV/c2c^2 and Γ=82.4±18.2±8.9Γ=82.4\pm18.2\pm8.9 MeV for the Λ(1810)Λ(1810), respectively. The branching fraction is determined to be B(J/ψ→ΛΣˉ0η+c.c) \mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to Λ\bar{ Σ}^0η+\mathrm{c.c}) = (3.44±0.11±0.13)×10−5(3.44 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.13) \times 10^{-5}. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic.

Cross section measurement of e+e−→π0π0ψ(3686)e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow π^{0}π^{0}ψ(3686) from s=\sqrt{s}= 4.008 GeV to 4.951 GeV

Using data samples with a total integrated luminosity of 22.1 fb−122.1~\rm fb^{-1} at center-of-mass energies between 4.008 and 4.951~GeV collected with the BESIII detector, the cross sections of e+e−→π0π0ψ(3686)e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow π^{0}π^{0}ψ(3686) process are measured. The obtained cross sections are found to be approximately one-half of those of e+e−→π+π−ψ(3686)e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow π^{+}π^{-}ψ(3686), consistent with the isospin symmetry expectation. A coherent fit to the dressed cross sections is performed, with the Y(4230)Y(4230)~parameters fixed at the values measured in e+e−→π+π−ψ(3686)e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow π^{+}π^{-}ψ(3686). The significances of the Y(4390)Y(4390) and Y(4660)Y(4660) are both larger than 5σ5σ, and their masses and widths are consistent with the previous measurement in the e+e−→π+π−ψ(3686)e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow π^{+}π^{-}ψ(3686) process.

First Measurement of the Absolute Branching Fraction of ηc→γγη_c \to γγ

We apply a tag-and-probe method to precisely measure the absolute branching fraction of the decay ηc→γγη_c \to γγ with the BESIII experiment at BEPCII. Starting with a large initial sample of 2712.4±14.32712.4\pm 14.3 million ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events, a sample of 0.16 million ηcη_c events are tagged via the golden channel ψ(3686)→π0hcψ(3686)\to π^0 h_c, hc→γηch_c\to γη_c, effectively avoiding interference effects. The absolute branching fraction of ηc→γγη_c \to γγ is measured for the first time to be B(ηc→γγ)=(2.45±0.48stat.±0.09syst.)×10−4\mathcal{B}(η_c \to γγ) = (2.45 \pm 0.48_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.09_{\rm syst.}) \times 10^{-4}. Using the world average value of the total width of the ηcη_c, the partial decay width of ηc→γγη_c \to γγ is calculated to be Γ(ηc→γγ)=(7.48±1.48stat.±0.30syst.) keVΓ(η_c \to γγ) = (7.48 \pm 1.48_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.30_{\rm syst.})~{\rm keV}.

First Observation of D0(+)→Kˉωe+νeD^{0(+)}\to \bar Kωe^+ν_e and Determination of the Branching Fraction of Kˉ1(1270)→Kˉω\bar K_1(1270)\to \bar K ω

Using 20.3~fb−1^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- annihilation data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773~GeV with the BESIII detector, we report the first observation of the semileptonic decays D0→K−ωe+νeD^0\to K^-ωe^+ν_e and D+→KS0ωe+νeD^+\to K_S^0ωe^+ν_e with significances of 8.0σ8.0σ and 5.8σ5.8σ, respectively, including systematic uncertainties. Their decay branching fractions are measured to be B(D0→K−ωe+νe)=(9.3−1.9+2.1±0.7)×10−5{\cal B}(D^0\to K^-ωe^+ν_e)=(9.3^{+2.1}_{-1.9}\pm 0.7)\times10^{-5} and B(D+→KS0ωe+νe)=(6.6−1.8+2.0±0.6)×10−5{\cal B}(D^+\to K_S^0ωe^+ν_e)=(6.6^{+2.0}_{-1.8}\pm 0.6)\times10^{-5}. Combining with the latest measurements of D0(+)→K−π+π−(0)e+νeD^{0(+)}\to K^-π^+π^{-(0)} e^+ν_e and assuming Kˉ1(1270)\bar{K}_1(1270) to be the sole mediating resonance in all processes, the branching ratios are determined to be Γ(K1(1270)−→K−π+π−)Γ(K1(1270)−→K−ω)=3.4−0.7+0.8±0.3\frac{Γ(K_1(1270)^-\to K^-π^+π^-)}{Γ(K_1(1270)^-\to K^-ω)} = 3.4^{+0.8}_{-0.7} \pm 0.3 and Γ(Kˉ1(1270)0→K−π+π0)Γ(Kˉ1(1270)0→Kˉ0ω)=9.6−2.7+3.0±0.8\frac{Γ(\bar{K}_1(1270)^0\to K^-π^+π^0)}{Γ(\bar{K}_1(1270)^0\to \bar{K}^0ω)} = 9.6^{+3.0}_{-2.7} \pm 0.8. The combined branching fraction is determined to be B(Kˉ1(1270)→Kˉω)=(7.5±1.3±0.5)%\mathcal B(\bar{K}_1(1270)\to \bar{K}ω) = (7.5\pm 1.3 \pm 0.5)\%, which is the most precise measurement from a collider experiment. The first uncertainties are statistical, and the second are systematic.

Measurements of the absolute branching fractions of the Λc+Λ_{c}^{+} hadronic decays

Based on 4.5 fb−1^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- collision data collected at center-of-mass energies between 4599.53 MeV and 4698.82 MeV with the BESIII detector, the absolute branching fractions of twelve Λc+Λ_{c}^{+} hadronic decay modes are measured with a double-tag technique. A global least-square fit is implemented simultaneously among different decay modes at different energy points. This paper gives the most precise results on the branching fractions of different decay modes to date, with precision improved by a factor of 2 to 3. Among them, the branching fraction of Λc+→pK−π+Λ_{c}^{+}\to pK^{-}π^+ is determined to be (6.61±0.11±0.12)%(6.61\pm0.11\pm0.12)\%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. In addition, the e+e−→Λc+Λˉc−e^+e^-\toΛ_c^+\barΛ_c^- Born cross sections and the effective form factors (∣Geff∣|G_{\rm eff}|) at different energy points have been determined with the highest precision to date.

Search for a dark baryon in the Ξ−→π−+invisibleΞ^-\rightarrowπ^-+{\rm invisible} decay

A search for a dark baryon is performed for the first time in the two-body decay Ξ−→π−+invisibleΞ^-\rightarrowπ^-+{\rm invisible} using (10.087±0.044)×109(10.087\pm0.044)\times10^{9} J/ψJ/ψ events collected at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=3.097\,\mbox{GeV}$ with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. No significant signal is observed, and the 90% (95%) confidence level upper limits on the branching fraction B(Ξ−→π−+invisible)B(Ξ^-\rightarrowπ^-+{\rm invisible}) are determined to be 4.2×10−54.2\times10^{-5} (5.2×10−55.2\times10^{-5}), 6.9×10−56.9\times10^{-5} (8.4×10−58.4\times10^{-5}), 6.5×10−46.5\times10^{-4} (7.6×10−47.6\times10^{-4}), 1.1×10−41.1\times10^{-4} (1.3×10−41.3\times10^{-4}) and 4.5×10−54.5\times10^{-5} (5.5×10−55.5\times10^{-5}), under the dark baryon mass hypotheses of 1.07$\,\mbox{GeV}/c^2$, 1.10$\,\mbox{GeV}/c^2$, mΛm_Λ (1.116$\,\mbox{GeV}/c^2$), 1.13$\,\mbox{GeV}/c^2$, and 1.16$\,\mbox{GeV}/c^2$, respectively. The constraints obtained on the Wilson coefficients Cus,sLC_{u s, s}^L and Cus,sRC_{u s, s}^R are more stringent than the previous limits derived from the LHC searches for the colored mediators.

Measurement of branching fractions of Λc+Λ_{c}^{+} decays to Σ+ηΣ^{+} η and Σ+η′Σ^{+} η'

By analyzing e+e−e^+e^- collision data taken at center-of-mass energies s\sqrt{s} between 4.600 and 4.699 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.5 fb−1\rm 4.5~fb^{-1}, we study the hadronic decays Λc+→Σ+ηΛ_{c}^{+} \rightarrow Σ^{+} η and Λc+→Σ+η′Λ_{c}^{+} \rightarrow Σ^{+} η^{\prime} using the single-tag method. The branching fraction ratio of Λc+→Σ+ηΛ_{c}^+ \rightarrow Σ^+ η relative to Λc+→Σ+π0Λ_{c}^+ \rightarrow Σ^+ π^0 is determined to be 0.305±0.046stat.±0.007syst.0.305 \pm 0.046_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.007_{\rm syst.}, and that of Λc+→Σ+η′Λ_{c}^+ \rightarrow Σ^+ η' relative to Λc+→Σ+ωΛ_{c}^+ \rightarrow Σ^+ ω is 0.336±0.094stat.±0.037syst.0.336 \pm 0.094_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.037_{\rm syst.}. The ratio of B(Λc+→Σ+η′)B(Λc+→Σ+η)\frac{\mathcal{B}\left(Λ_{c}^{+} \rightarrow Σ^{+} η'\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left(Λ_{c}^{+} \rightarrow Σ^{+} η\right)} is determined to be 1.73±0.22stat.±0.16syst.1.73 \pm 0.22_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.16_{\rm syst.}. These results enrich our knowledge of charmed baryon decays.

Investigation of the ΔI=1/2ΔI = 1/2 rule and test of CP violation through the measurement of decay asymmetry parameters in Ξ−Ξ^- decays

Using (10087±44)×106(10087\pm44)\times 10^{6} J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector, numerous Ξ−Ξ^- and ΛΛ decay asymmetry parameters are simultaneously determined from the process J/ψ→Ξ−Ξˉ+→Λ(pπ−)π−Λˉ(nˉπ0)π+J/ψ\to Ξ^- \barΞ^+ \to Λ(pπ^-) π^- \barΛ(\bar{n} π^0) π^+ and its charge-conjugate channel. The precisions of α0α_0 for Λ→nπ0Λ\to nπ^0 and αˉ0\barα_0 for Λˉ→nˉπ0\barΛ \to \bar{n}π^0 compared to world averages are improved by factors of 4 and 1.7, respectively. The ratio of decay asymmetry parameters of Λ→nπ0Λ\to nπ^0 to that of Λ→pπ−Λ\to pπ^-, ⟨α0⟩/⟨αΛ−⟩\langle α_0 \rangle/ \langle α_{Λ-} \rangle , is determined to be 0.873±0.012−0.010+0.011 0.873 \pm 0.012^{+0.011}_{-0.010}, where the first and the second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The ratio is smaller than unity more than 5σ5σ, which signifies the existence of the ΔI=3/2ΔI = 3/2 transition in ΛΛ for the first time. Beside, we test for CP violation in Ξ−→Λπ−Ξ^- \to Λπ^- and in Λ→nπ0Λ\to n π^{0} with the best precision to date.

Search for hidden-charm tetraquark with strangeness in e+e−→K+Ds∗−D∗0+c.c.e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow K^+ D_{s}^{*-} D^{*0}+c.c.

We report a search for a heavier partner of the recently observed Zcs(3985)−Z_{cs}(3985)^{-} state, denoted as Zcs′−Z_{cs}^{\prime -}, in the process e+e−→K+Ds∗−D∗0+c.c.e^{+} e^{-}\rightarrow K^{+}D_{s}^{*-}D^{* 0}+c.c., based on e+e−e^+e^- collision data collected at the center-of-mass energies of s=4.661\sqrt{s}=4.661, 4.682 and 4.699 GeV with the BESIII detector. The Zcs′−Z_{cs}^{\prime -} is of interest as it is expected to be a candidate for a hidden-charm and open-strange tetraquark. A partial-reconstruction technique is used to isolate K+K^+ recoil-mass spectra, which are probed for a potential contribution from Zcs′−→Ds∗−D∗0Z_{cs}^{\prime -}\to D_{s}^{*-}D^{* 0} (c.c.c.c.). We find an excess of Zcs′−→Ds∗−D∗0Z_{cs}^{\prime -}\rightarrow D_{s}^{*-}D^{*0} (c.c.c.c.) candidates with a significance of 2.1σ2.1σ, after considering systematic uncertainties, at a mass of (4123.5±0.7stat.±4.7syst.) MeV/c2(4123.5\pm0.7_\mathrm{stat.}\pm4.7_\mathrm{syst.})\ \mathrm{MeV}/c^{2}. As the data set is limited in size, the upper limits are evaluated at the 90\% confidence level on the product of the Born cross sections (σBornσ^{\mathrm{Born}}) and the branching fraction (B\mathcal{B}) of Zcs′−→Ds∗−D∗0Z_{cs}^{\prime-}\rightarrow D_{s}^{*-}D^{* 0}, under different assumptions of the Zcs′−Z_{cs}^{\prime -} mass from 4.120 to 4.140 MeV and of the width from 10 to 50 MeV at the three center-of-mass energies. The upper limits of σBorn⋅Bσ^{\rm Born}\cdot\mathcal{B} are found to be at the level of O(1)\mathcal{O}(1) pb at each energy. Larger data samples are needed to confirm the Zcs′−Z_{cs}^{\prime -} state and clarify its nature in the coming years.

The branching fractions of the dominant intermediate processes Ds+→K+ρ0,ρ0→π+π−D_{s}^{+} \to K^+ρ^0, ρ^0 \to π^+π^- and Ds+→K∗(892)0π+,K∗(892)0→K+π−D_{s}^{+} \to K^*(892)^0π^+, K^*(892)^0 \to K^+π^- are determined to be (1.96±0.19stat.±0.23syst.)×10−3(1.96\pm0.19_{\rm stat.}\pm0.23_{\rm syst.})\times 10^{-3} and (1.85±0.12stat.±0.13syst.)×10−3(1.85\pm0.12_{\rm stat.}\pm0.13_{\rm syst.})\times 10^{-3}, respectively. Cross section measurements of the processes e+e−→ωπ0e^+e^- \rightarrow ωπ^{0} and ωηωη at center-of-mass energies between 3.773 and 4.701 GeV

The Born cross sections of the processes e+e−→ωπ0e^+e^- \rightarrow ωπ^{0} and e+e−→ωηe^+e^- \rightarrow ωη are measured at center-of-mass energies between 3.773 and 4.701 GeV using a total integrated luminosity of 22.7 fb−1^{-1} collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. The Λc+→pK−e+νeΛ_c^+\rightarrow pK^-e^+ν_e decay is observed with a significance of 8.2σ8.2σ and the branching fraction is measured to be B(Λc+→pK−e+νe)=(0.88±0.17stat.±0.07syst.)×10−3\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\rightarrow pK^- e^+ν_e)=(0.88\pm0.17_{\rm stat.}\pm0.07_{\rm syst.})\times 10^{-3}. Combining these with the inclusive semileptonic Λc+Λ_c^+ branching fraction measured by BESIII, the relative fraction is determined to be [B(Λc+→pK−e+νe)/B(Λc+→Xe+νe)]=(2.1±0.4stat.±0.2syst.)%[\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\rightarrow pK^-e^+ν_e)/\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\rightarrow X e^+ν_e)]=(2.1\pm0.4_{\rm stat.}\pm0.2_{\rm syst.})\%, which provides a clear confirmation that semileptonic Λc+Λ_c^+ decays are not saturated by the Λℓ+νℓΛ\ell^+ν_{\ell} final state.

Measurement of e+e−→K+K−π0e^{+}e^{-} \to K^{+}K^{-}π^{0} cross section and observation of a resonant structure

Based on e+e−e^{+}e^{-} collision data collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies from 2.000 to 3.080 GeV, a partial-wave analysis is performed for the process e+e−→K+K−π0e^{+}e^{-} \to K^{+}K^{-}π^{0}. The Born cross section of the process e+e−→K+K−π0e^{+}e^{-} \to K^{+}K^{-}π^{0} and its subprocesses e+e−→ϕπ0e^{+}e^{-} \to ϕπ^{0}, K∗(892)KK^{*}(892)K and K2∗(1430)KK^{*}_{2}(1430)K are measured. The results for e+e−→K+K−π0e^{+}e^{-} \to K^{+}K^{-}π^{0} and ϕπ0ϕπ^{0} are consistent with the BaBar measurements and with improved precision. By analyzing the cross section, of the subprocesses e+e−→e^{+}e^{-} \to K∗(892)KK^{*}(892)K and K2∗(1430)KK^{*}_{2}(1430)K, a structure with mass MRM_R = (2208 ±\pm 19 ±\pm 24) MeV/c2c^{2} and width ΓRΓ_R = (168 ±\pm 24 ±\pm 39) MeV is observed with a combined statistical significance of 7.6σσ. The measured resonance parameters suggest it can be identified as the ϕ(2170)ϕ(2170), thus the results provide valuable input to understand the internal nature of this state.

Measurement of the branching fraction of the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay D0→K+π−π0D^0\to K^+π^-π^0 and search for D0→K+π−π0π0D^0\to K^+π^-π^0π^0

Using 2.93 fb−12.93\,\rm fb^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773\,GeV with the BESIII detector, we present a measurement of the branching fraction of the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed (DCS) decay D0→K+π−π0D^0\to K^+π^-π^0 and a search for the DCS decay D0→K+π−π0π0D^0\to K^+π^-π^0π^0. The branching fraction of D0→K+π−π0D^0\to K^+π^-π^0 is determined to be [3.13−0.56+0.60(stat)±0.09(syst)]×10−4[3.13^{+0.60}_{-0.56}({\rm stat}) \pm 0.09({\rm syst})] \times 10^{-4}. No signal is observed for D0→K+π−π0π0D^0\to K^+π^-π^0π^0 and an upper limit of 3.6×10−43.6 \times 10^{-4} is set on the branching fraction at the 90\% C.L. We combine these results with the world-average branching fractions of their counterpart Cabibbo-favored decays to determine the ratios of the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed over the Cabibbo-favored branching fractions, B(D0→K+π−π0)/B(D0→K−π+π0)=(0.22±0.04)%{\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^+π^-π^0)/{\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^-π^+π^0)=(0.22\pm 0.04)\%~and B(D0→K+π−π0π0)/B(D0→K−π+π0π0)<0.40%{\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^+π^-π^0π^0)/{\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^-π^+π^0π^0)<0.40\% at the 90\% C.L., which correspond to (0.75±0.14)tan⁡4θC(0.75\pm 0.14)\tan^{4} θ_C~and 1.37×tan⁡4θC1.37\times \tan^{4} θ_C, respectively, where θCθ_C is the Cabibbo angle.

Measurement of the total and leptonic decay widths of the J/ψJ/ψ resonance with an energy scan method at BESIII

Using e+e−e^+e^- annihilation data sets collected with the BESIII detector, we measure the cross sections of the processes e+e−→e+e−e^+e^- \to e^+e^- and e+e−→μ+μ−e^+e^- \to μ^+μ^- at fifteen center-of-mass energy points in the vicinity of the J/ψJ/ψ resonance. By a simultaneous fit to the measured, center-of-mass energy dependent cross sections of the two processes, the combined quantities ΓeeΓee/ΓtotΓ_{ee} Γ_{ee} / Γ_{\rm tot} and ΓeeΓμμ/ΓtotΓ_{ee} Γ_{μμ} / Γ_{\rm tot} are determined to be (0.346±0.0090.346 \pm 0.009) and (0.335±0.0060.335 \pm 0.006) keV, respectively, where ΓeeΓ_{ee}, ΓμμΓ_{μμ}, and ΓtotΓ_{\rm tot} are the electronic, muonic, and total decay widths of the J/ψJ/ψ resonance, respectively. Using the resultant ΓeeΓμμ/ΓtotΓ_{ee} Γ_{μμ} / Γ_{\rm tot} and ΓeeΓee/ΓtotΓ_{ee} Γ_{ee} / Γ_{\rm tot}, the ratio Γee/ΓμμΓ_{ee} / Γ_{μμ} is calculated to be 1.031±0.0151.031 \pm 0.015, which is consistent with the expectation of lepton universality within about two standard deviations. Assuming lepton universality and using the branching fraction of the J/ψJ/ψ leptonic decay measured by BESIII in 2013, ΓtotΓ_{\rm tot} and ΓllΓ_{ll} are determined to be (93.0±2.193.0 \pm 2.1) and (5.56±0.115.56 \pm 0.11) keV, respectively, where ΓllΓ_{ll} is the average leptonic decay width of the J/ψJ/ψ resonance.

The hadronic decay ηc(2S)→3(π+π−)η_c(2S) \to 3(π^+π^-) is observed with a statistical significance of 9.3 standard deviations using (448.1±2.9)×106(448.1\pm2.9)\times10^6 ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The product branching fraction B[ψ(3686)→γηc(2S)]×B[ηc(2S)→3(π+π−)]\mathcal{B}[ψ(3686)\to γη_c(2S)]\times\mathcal{B}[η_c(2S)\to3(π^+π^-)] is measured to be (9.2±1.0(stat.)±0.9(syst.))×10−6(9.2 \pm 1.0 (\rm stat.) \pm 0.9 (\rm syst.))\times10^{-6}. Using B[ψ(3686)→γηc(2S)]=(7.0−2.5+3.4)×10−4\mathcal{B}[ψ(3686)\to γη_c(2S)]=(7.0^{+3.4}_{-2.5})\times10^{-4}, we obtain B[ηc(2S)→3(π+π−)]=(1.31±0.15(stat.)±0.13(syst.)(−0.47+0.64)(extr))×10−2\mathcal{B}[η_c(2S) \to 3(π^+π^-)] = (1.31 \pm 0.15 (\rm stat.) \pm 0.13 (\rm syst.)(^{+0.64}_{-0.47}) (\rm extr))\times10^{-2}, where the third uncertainty is from B[ψ(3686)→γηc(2S)]\mathcal{B}[ψ(3686) \to γη_c(2S)]. Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 11.3 fb−1\rm fb^{-1} collected at center-of-mass energies from 4.234.23 to 4.704.70 GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the product of the e+e−→π+π−ψ2(3823)e^+e^-\to π^+π^-ψ_2(3823) cross section and the branching fraction B[ψ2(3823)→γχc1]\mathcal{B}[ψ_2(3823)\to γχ_{c1}]. For the first time, resonance structure is observed in the cross section line shape of e+e−→π+π−ψ2(3823)e^+e^-\to π^+π^-ψ_2(3823) with significances exceeding 5σ5σ. A fit to data with two coherent Breit-Wigner resonances modeling the s\sqrt{s}-dependent cross section yields M(R1)=4406.9±17.2±4.5M(R_1)=4406.9\pm 17.2\pm 4.5 MeV/c2c^2, Γ(R1)=128.1±37.2±2.3Γ(R_1)=128.1\pm 37.2\pm 2.3 MeV, and M(R2)=4647.9±8.6±0.8M(R_2)=4647.9\pm 8.6\pm 0.8 MeV/c2c^2, Γ(R2)=33.1±18.6±4.1Γ(R_2)=33.1\pm 18.6\pm 4.1 MeV. Though weakly disfavored by the data, a single resonance with M(R)=4417.5±26.2±3.5M(R)=4417.5\pm26.2\pm3.5 MeV/c2c^2, Γ(R)=245±48±13Γ(R)=245\pm48\pm13 MeV is also possible to interpret data. This observation deepens our understanding of the nature of the vector charmoniumlike states. The mass of the ψ2(3823)ψ_2(3823) state is measured as (3823.12±0.43±0.13)(3823.12\pm 0.43\pm 0.13) MeV/c2c^2, which is the most precise measurement to date.

An innovative architecture for a wide band transient monitor on board the HERMES nano-satellite constellation

The HERMES-TP/SP mission, based on a nanosatellite constellation, has very stringent constraints of sensitivity and compactness, and requires an innovative wide energy range instrument. The instrument technology is based on the "siswich" concept, in which custom-designed, low-noise Silicon Drift Detectors are used to simultaneously detect soft X-rays and to readout the optical light produced by the interaction of higher energy photons in GAGG:Ce scintillators. To preserve the inherent excellent spectroscopic performances of SDDs, advanced readout electronics is necessary. In this paper, the HERMES detector architecture concept will be described in detail, as well as the specifically developed front-end ASICs (LYRA-FE and LYRA-BE) and integration solutions. The experimental performance of the integrated system composed by scintillator+SDD+LYRA ASIC will be discussed, demonstrating that the requirements of a wide energy range sensitivity, from 2 keV up to 2 MeV, are met in a compact instrument.

Antichiral spin order its Goldstone modes and their hybridization with phonons in the topological semimetal Mn3Ge

Quantum materials with strong transport responses to disparate physical quantities are of great fundamental significance and may hold technological potentials. The interplay between interactions and topology drive such responses through the effects of spontaneous symmetry breaking and the associated domain configurations on quantum transport. Here we provide a comprehensive description of the magnetism of Mn3Ge, an antiferromagnetic kagomebased semimetal with room temperature transport anomalies associated with topologically protected Weyl nodes. Using polarized neutron diffraction, we show the all-important magnetic structure is anti-chiral and coplanar carrying the symmetry of a ferromagnet without appreciable magnetization. We probe and classify the long wavelength excitations that determine its macroscopic responses including a set of collective magneto-elastic modes. We develop a phenomenological spin Hamiltonian with exchange, Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya, and crystal field interactions to describe its collective magnetism. The itinerant character of the magnetism that drives quantum transport is apparent in spin wave damping and extended magnetic interactions. Our work provides the scientific basis for manipulation of the chiral antiferromagnetic texture of Mn3Ge to control its topological quantum transport.

Periodic activity from a fast radio burst source

Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are bright, millisecond-duration radio transients originating from extragalactic distances. Their origin is unknown. Some FRB sources emit repeat bursts, ruling out cataclysmic origins for those events. Despite searches for periodicity in repeat burst arrival times on time scales from milliseconds to many days, these bursts have hitherto been observed to appear sporadically, and though clustered, without a regular pattern. Here we report the detection of a 16.35±0.1516.35\pm0.15 day periodicity (or possibly a higher-frequency alias of that periodicity) from a repeating FRB 180916.J0158+65 detected by the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment Fast Radio Burst Project (CHIME/FRB). In 38 bursts recorded from September 16th, 2018 through February 4th, 2020, we find that all bursts arrive in a 5-day phase window, and 50% of the bursts arrive in a 0.6-day phase window. Our results suggest a mechanism for periodic modulation either of the burst emission itself, or through external amplification or absorption, and disfavour models invoking purely sporadic processes.

Photometric study for near-Earth asteroid (155140) 2005 UD

The Apollo-type near-Earth asteroid (155140) 2005 UD is thought to be a member of the Phaethon-Geminid meteor stream Complex (PGC). Its basic physical parameters are important for unveiling its origin and its relationship to the other PGC members as well as to the Geminid stream. Adopting the Lommel-Seeliger ellipsoid method and H,G1,G2H,G_1,G_2 phase function, we carry out spin, shape, and phase curve inversion using the photometric data of 2005~UD. The data consists of 11 new lightcurves, 3 lightcurves downloaded from the Minor Planet Center, and 166 sparse data points downloaded from the Zwicky Transient Facility database. As a result, we derive the pole solution of (285∘.8−5.3+1.1285^\circ.8^{+1.1}_{-5.3}, −25∘.8−12.5+5.3 -25^\circ.8^{+5.3}_{-12.5}) in the ecliptic frame of J2000.0 with the rotational period of 5.23405.2340 h. The corresponding triaxial shape (semiaxes a>b>ca>b>c) is estimated as b/a=0.76−0.01+0.01b/a= 0.76^{+0.01}_{-0.01} and c/a=0.40−0.01+0.03c/a=0.40^{+0.03}_{-0.01}. Using the calibrated photometric data of 2005 UD, the H,G1,G2H,G_1,G_2 parameters are estimated as 17.19−0.09+0.1017.19^{+0.10}_{-0.09} mag, 0.573−0.069+0.0880.573^{+0.088}_{-0.069}, and 0.004−0.021+0.0200.004^{+0.020}_{-0.021}, respectively. Correspondingly, the phase integral qq, photometric phase coefficient kk, and the enhancement factor ζζ are 0.2447, -1.9011, and 0.7344. From the values of G1G_1 and G2G_2, 2005 UD is likely to be a C-type asteroid. We estimate the equivalent diameter of 2005 UD from the new HH-value: it is 1.30 km using the new geometric albedo of 0.14.

The near surface vertical atmospheric electric field abnormality could be as a promising imminent precursor of major earthquakes

A promising short term precursor of major earthquakes (EQ) is very crucial in saving people and preventing huge losses. Ez, atmospheric electrostatic field vertical component, under fair air conditions, is generally oriented downwards (positive). Anomalous negative Ez signals could be used as an indicator of a great number of radioactive gases which are released from great number of rock clefts just before major earthquakes. Enhanced emission of radon radioactive decay will produce an anomalously large number of ion pairs. The positive particles will be transported downward by the fair weather electrostatic field and pile up near the surface. Finally, obviously and abnormally, an oriented upward atmospheric electric field Ez near the ground could be formed. Therefore, monitoring this Ez may be applied effectively in earthquake warning.

Impact of 1/f1/f noise on cosmological parameter constraints for SKA intensity mapping

We investigate the impact of 1/f1/f noise on cosmology for an intensity mapping survey with SKA1-MID Band\,1 and Band\,2. We use a Fisher matrix approach to forecast constraints on cosmological parameters under the influence of 1/f1/f noise, adopting a semi-empirical model from an earlier work, which results from the residual 1/f1/f noise spectrum after applying a component separation algorithm to remove smooth spectral components. Without 1/f1/f noise, the projected constraints are 4%4\% on w0w_0, 1%1\% on hh, 2%2\% on bHIb_{\rm HI} using Band\,1+\emph{Planck}, and 3%3\% on w0w_0, 0.5%0.5\% on hh, 2%2\% on bHIb_{\rm HI} using Band\,2+\emph{Planck}. A representative baseline 1/f1/f noise degrades these constraints by a factor of ∼1.5\sim1.5 for Band\,1+\emph{Planck}, and ∼1.2\sim1.2 for Band\,2+\emph{Planck}. On the power spectrum measurement, higher redshift and smaller scales are more affected by 1/f1/f noise, with minimal contamination comes from z≲1z\lesssim1 and ℓ≲100\ell\lesssim100. Subject to the specific scan strategy of the adopted 1/f1/f noise model, one prefers a correlated in frequency with minimised spectral slope, a low knee frequency, and a large telescope slew speed in order to reduce its impact.

M31N 2008-12a - the remarkable recurrent nova in M31: Pan-chromatic observations of the 2015 eruption

The Andromeda Galaxy recurrent nova M31N 2008-12a had been observed in eruption ten times, including yearly eruptions from 2008-2014. With a measured recurrence period of Prec=351±13P_\mathrm{rec}=351\pm13 days (we believe the true value to be half of this) and a white dwarf very close to the Chandrasekhar limit, M31N 2008-12a has become the leading pre-explosion supernova type Ia progenitor candidate. Following multi-wavelength follow-up observations of the 2013 and 2014 eruptions, we initiated a campaign to ensure early detection of the predicted 2015 eruption, which triggered ambitious ground and space-based follow-up programs. In this paper we present the 2015 detection; visible to near-infrared photometry and visible spectroscopy; and ultraviolet and X-ray observations from the Swift observatory. The LCOGT 2m (Hawaii) discovered the 2015 eruption, estimated to have commenced at Aug. 28.28±0.1228.28\pm0.12 UT. The 2013-2015 eruptions are remarkably similar at all wavelengths. New early spectroscopic observations reveal short-lived emission from material with velocities ∼13000\sim13000 km s−1^{-1}, possibly collimated outflows. Photometric and spectroscopic observations of the eruption provide strong evidence supporting a red giant donor. An apparently stochastic variability during the early super-soft X-ray phase was comparable in amplitude and duration to past eruptions, but the 2013 and 2015 eruptions show evidence of a brief flux dip during this phase. The multi-eruption Swift/XRT spectra show tentative evidence of high-ionization emission lines above a high-temperature continuum. Following Henze et al. (2015a), the updated recurrence period based on all known eruptions is Prec=174±10P_\mathrm{rec}=174\pm10 d, and we expect the next eruption of M31N 2008-12a to occur around mid-Sep. 2016.

Rotational Dynamics of Organic Cations in CH3NH3PbI3 Perovskite

Methylammonium lead iodide (CH3NH3PbI3) based solar cells have shown impressive power conversion efficiencies of above 20%. However, the microscopic mechanism of the high photovoltaic performance is yet to be fully understood. Particularly, the dynamics of CH3NH3+ cations and their impact on relevant processes such as charge recombination and exciton dissociation are still poorly understood. Here, using elastic and quasi-elastic neutron scattering techniques and group theoretical analysis, we studied rotational modes of the CH3NH3+ cation in CH3NH3PbI3. Our results show that, in the cubic (T > 327K) and tetragonal (165K < T < 327K) phases, the CH3NH3+ ions exhibit four-fold rotational symmetry of the C-N axis (C4) along with three-fold rotation around the C-N axis (C3), while in orthorhombic phase (T < 165K) only C3 rotation is present. Around room temperature, the characteristic relaxation times for the C4 rotation is found to be ps while for the C3 rotation ps. The -dependent rotational relaxation times were fitted with Arrhenius equations to obtain activation energies. Our data show a close correlation between the C4 rotational mode and the temperature dependent dielectric permittivity. Our findings on the rotational dynamics of CH3NH3+ and the associated dipole have important implications on understanding the low exciton binding energy and slow charge recombination rate in CH3NH3PbI3 which are directly relevant for the high solar cell performance.

Threshold Energies for Single Carbon Knockout from Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons

We have measured absolute cross sections for ultrafast (fs) single-carbon knockout from Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon (PAH) cations as functions of He-PAH center-of-mass collision energy in the range 10-200 eV. Classical Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations cover this range and extend up to 105^5 eV. The shapes of the knockout cross sections are well described by a simple analytical expression yielding experimental and MD threshold energies of EthExp=32.5±0.4E_{th}^{Exp}=32.5\pm 0.4 eV and EthMD=41.0±0.3E_{th}^{MD}=41.0\pm 0.3 eV, respectively. These are the first measurements of knockout threshold energies for molecules isolated \emph{in vacuo}. We further deduce semi-empirical (SE) and MD displacement energies --- \emph{i.e.} the energy transfers to the PAH molecules at the threshold energies for knockout --- of TdispSE=23.3±0.3T_{disp}^{SE}=23.3\pm 0.3 eV and TdispMD=27.0±0.3T_{disp}^{MD}=27.0\pm 0.3 eV. The semi-empirical results compare favorably with measured displacement energies for graphene Tdisp=23.6T_{disp}=23.6 eV [Meyer \emph{et al.} Phys. Rev Lett. \textbf{108} 196102 (2012) and \textbf{110} 239902 (2013)].
