Dimension-5 CP-odd operators: QCD mixing and renormalization

We study the off-shell mixing and renormalization of flavor-diagonal dimension-5 T- and P-odd operators involving quarks, gluons, and photons, including quark electric dipole and chromo-electric dipole operators. We present the renormalization matrix to one-loop in the $\bar{\rm MS}$ scheme. We also provide a definition of the quark chromo-electric dipole operator in a regularization-independent momentum-subtraction scheme suitable for non-perturbative lattice calculations and present the matching coefficients with the $\bar{\rm MS}$ scheme to one-loop in perturbation theory, using both the naive dimensional regularization and 't Hooft-Veltman prescriptions for $γ_5$.

Lattice QCD calculations of nucleon transverse momentum-dependent parton distributions using clover and domain wall fermions

We present a lattice QCD calculation of transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions (TMDs) of protons using staple-shaped Wilson lines. For time-reversal odd observables, we calculate the generalized Sivers and Boer-Mulders transverse momentum shifts in SIDIS and DY cases, and for T-even observables we calculate the transversity related to the tensor charge and the generalized worm-gear shift. The calculation is done on two different n_f=2+1 ensembles: domain-wall fermion (DWF) with lattice spacing 0.084 fm and pion mass of 297 MeV, and clover fermion with lattice spacing 0.114 fm and pion mass of 317 MeV. The results from those two different discretizations are consistent with each other.

The chiral and deconfinement aspects of the QCD transition

We present results on the chiral and deconfinement properties of the QCD transition at finite temperature. Calculations are performed with 2+1 flavors of quarks using the p4, asqtad and HISQ/tree actions. Lattices with temporal extent N_tau=6, 8 and 12 are used to understand and control discretization errors and to reliably extrapolate estimates obtained at finite lattice spacings to the continuum limit. The chiral transition temperature is defined in terms of the phase transition in a theory with two massless flavors and analyzed using O(N) scaling fits to the chiral condensate and susceptibility. We find consistent estimates from the HISQ/tree and asqtad actions and our main result is T_c=154 +/- 9 MeV.

Calculating weak matrix elements using HYP staggered fermions

We present preliminary results of weak matrix elements relevant to CP violation calculated using the HYP (II) staggered fermions. Since the complete set of matching coefficients at the one-loop level became available recently, we have constructed lattice operators with all the $g^2$ corrections included. The main results include both $ΔI = 3/2$ and $ΔI = 1/2$ contributions.

B Meson Decay Constants From NRQCD

We present quenched results for B meson decay constants using NRQCD b quarks and O(a) tadpole improved clover light quarks. For the first time, one-loop matching factors between lattice and continuum currents are incorporated through O(α/M) taking operator mixing fully into account. This includes an important O(αa) discretization correction to the heavy-light axial vector current. We find f_B = 0.147(11)(^{+8}_{-12})(9)(6) MeV and f_{B_s}/f_B = 1.20(4)(^{+4}_{-0}). Non-perturbative Renormalization Constants using Ward Identities

We extend the application of vector and axial Ward identities to calculate $b_A$, $b_P$ and $b_T$, coefficients that give the mass dependence of the renormalization constants of the corresponding bilinear operators in the quenched theory. The extension relies on using operators with non-degenerate quark masses. It allows a complete determination of the $O(a)$ improvement coefficients for bilinears in the quenched approximation using Ward Identities alone. Only the scale dependent normalization constants $Z_P^0$ (or $Z_S^0$) and $Z_T$ are undetermined. We present results of a pilot numerical study using hadronic correlators.

Light Quark Masses and the CP violation parameter $ε'/ε$

We present estimates of light quarks masses using lattice data. Our main results are based on a global analysis of all the published data for Wilson and Staggered fermions, both in the quenched approximation and with $n_f=2$ dynamical flavors. The Wilson and Staggered results agree after extrapolation to the continuum limit for both the $n_f=0,2$ theories. Our best estimates, in the MSbar scheme at scale $2 GeV$, are $mbar=3.2(4) MeV$ and $m_s = 90(20) MeV$ in the quenched approximation, and $mbar ~ 2.7 MeV$ and $m_s ~ 70 MeV$ for the $n_f=2$ theory. These estimates are significantly smaller than phenomenological estimates based on sum rules, but maintain the ratios predicted by chiral perturbation theory. Along with the new estimates of 4-fermion operators, lower quark masses have a significant impact on the extraction of $ε'/ε$ from the Standard Model.

The free energy of the Potts model: from the continuous to the first-order transition region

We present a large $q$ expansion of the 2d $q$-states Potts model free energies up to order 9 in $1/\sqrt{q}$. Its analysis leads us to an ansatz which, in the first-order region, incorporates properties inferred from the known critical regime at $q=4$, and predicts, for $q>4$, the $n^{\rm th}$ energy cumulant scales as the power $(3 n /2-2)$ of the correlation length. The parameter-free energy distributions reproduce accurately, without reference to any interface effect, the numerical data obtained in a simulation for $q=10$ with lattices of linear dimensions up to L=50. The pure phase specific heats are predicted to be much larger, at $q\leq10$, than the values extracted from current finite size scaling analysis of extrema. Implications for safe numerical determinations of interface tensions are discussed.
