On sums of arithmetic functions involving the greatest common divisor

Let gcd⁡(d1,…,dk)\gcd(d_{1},\ldots,d_{k}) be the greatest common divisor of the positive integers d1,…,dkd_{1},\ldots,d_{k}, for any integer k≥2k\geq 2, and let ττ and μμ denote the divisor function and the Möbius function, respectively. For an arbitrary arithmetic function gg and for any real number x>5x>5 and any integer k≥3k\geq 3, we define the sum Sg,k(x):=∑n≤x∑d1⋯dk=ng(gcd⁡(d1,…,dk)) S_{g,k}(x) :=\sum_{n\leq x}\sum_{d_{1}\cdots d_{k}=n} g(\gcd(d_{1},\ldots,d_{k})) In this paper, we give asymptotic formulas for Sτ,k(x)S_{τ,k}(x) and Sμ,k(x)S_{μ,k}(x) for k≥3k\geq 3.

An asymptotic formula for the 2k2k-th power mean value of ∣(L′/L)(1+it0,χ)∣\left| (L'/L)(1+it_0, χ)\right|

Let qq be a positive integer (≥2\geq 2), χχ be a Dirichlet character modulo qq, L(s,χ)L(s, χ) be the attached Dirichlet LL-function, and let L′(s,χ)L^\prime(s, χ) denote its derivative with respect to the complex variable ss. Let t0t_0 be any fixed real number. The main purpose of this paper is to give an asymptotic formula for the 2k2k-th power mean value of ∣(L′/L)(1+it0,χ)∣\left|(L^\prime/L)(1+it_0, χ)\right| when χχ runs over all Dirichlet characters modulo qq (except the principal character when t0=0t_0=0).

On the weighted average number of subgroups of Zm×Zn{\mathbb {Z}}_{m}\times {\mathbb {Z}}_{n} with mn≤xmn\leq x

Let Zm\mathbb{Z}_{m} be the additive group of residue classes modulo mm. For any positive integers mm and nn, let s(m,n)s(m,n) and c(m,n)c(m,n) denote the total number of subgroups and cyclic subgroups of the group Zm×Zn{\mathbb{Z}}_{m}\times {\mathbb{Z}}_{n}, respectively. Define D~s(x)=∑mn≤xs(m,n)log⁡xmnD~c(x)=∑mn≤xc(m,n)log⁡xmn. \widetilde{D}_{s}(x) = \sum_{mn\leq x}s(m,n)\log\frac{x}{mn} \quad \quad \widetilde{D}_{c}(x) = \sum_{mn\leq x}c(m,n)\log\frac{x}{mn}. In this paper, we study the asymptotic behaviour of functions D~s(x)\widetilde{D}_{s}(x) and D~c(x)\widetilde{D}_{c}(x).

Sums of averages of gcd-sum functions II

Let gcd⁡(k,j)\gcd(k,j) denote the greatest common divisor of the integers kk and jj, and let rr be any fixed positive integer. Define Mr(x;f):=∑k≤x1kr+1∑j=1kjrf(gcd⁡(j,k)) M_r(x; f) := \sum_{k\leq x}\frac{1}{k^{r+1}}\sum_{j=1}^{k}j^{r}f(\gcd(j,k)) for any large real number x≥5x\geq 5, where ff is any arithmetical function. Let ϕϕ, and ψψ denote the Euler totient and the Dedekind function, respectively. In this paper, we refine asymptotic expansions of Mr(x;id)M_r(x; {\rm id}), Mr(x;ϕ)M_r(x;ϕ) and Mr(x;ψ)M_r(x;ψ). Furthermore, under the Riemann Hypothesis and the simplicity of zeros of the Riemann zeta-function, we establish the asymptotic formula of Mr(x;id)M_r(x;{\rm id}) for any large positive number x>5x>5 satisfying x=[x]+12x=[x]+\frac{1}{2}.

Constrained ternary integers

An integer nn is said to be ternary if it is composed of three distinct odd primes. In this paper, we asymptotically count the number of ternary integers n≤xn \leq x with the constituent primes satisfying various constraints. We apply our results to the study of the simplest class of (inverse) cyclotomic polynomials that can have coefficients that are greater than 1 in absolute value, namely to the nthn^{th} (inverse) cyclotomic polynomials with ternary nn. We show, for example, that the corrected Sister Beiter conjecture is true for a fraction ≥0.925\ge 0.925 of ternary integers.

On Weyl products and uniform distribution modulo one

In the present paper we study the asymptotic behavior of trigonometric products of the form ∏k=1N2sin⁡(πxk)\prod_{k=1}^N 2 \sin(πx_k) for N→∞N \to \infty, where the numbers ω=(xk)k=1Nω=(x_k)_{k=1}^N are evenly distributed in the unit interval [0,1][0,1]. The main result are matching lower and upper bounds for such products in terms of the star-discrepancy of the underlying points ωω, thereby improving earlier results obtained by Hlawka in 1969. Furthermore, we consider the special cases when the points ωω are the initial segment of a Kronecker or van der Corput sequence. The paper concludes with some probabilistic analogues.

Products of two proportional primes

In RSA cryptography numbers of the form pqpq, with pp and qq two distinct proportional primes play an important role. For a fixed real number r>1r>1 we formalize this by saying that an integer pqpq is an RSA-integer if pp and qq are primes satisfying p<q≤rpp<q\le rp. Recently Dummit, Granville and Kisilevsky showed that substantially more than a quarter of the odd integers of the form pqpq up to xx, with p,qp, q both prime, satisfy p≡q≡3(mod4)p\equiv q\equiv 3\pmod{4}. In this paper we investigate this phenomenon for RSA-integers. We establish an analogue of a strong form of the prime number theorem with the logarithmic integral replaced by a variant. From this we derive an asymptotic formula for the number of RSA-integers ≤x\le x which is much more precise than an earlier one derived by Decker and Moree in 2008.

An asymptotic distribution for ∣L′/L(1,χ)∣\left|L^\prime/L(1,χ)\right|

Let χχ be a Dirichlet character modulo qq, let L(s,χ)L(s, χ) be the attached Dirichlet LL-function, and let L′(s,χ)L^\prime(s, χ) denotes its derivative with respect to the complex variable ss. The main purpose of this paper is to give an asymptotic formula for the 2k2k-th power mean value of ∣L′/L(1,χ)∣\left|L^\prime/L(1, χ)\right| when χχ ranges a primitive Dirichlet character modulo qq for qq prime. We derive some consequences, in particular a bound for the number of χχ such that ∣L′/L(1,χ)∣\left|L^\prime/L(1, χ)\right| is large.
