Holography in Flat Spacetimes: the case for Carroll

We compare and contrast the two approaches of holography in asymptotically flat spacetimes, viz. the co-dimension two Celestial approach based on the Mellin transformation and the co-dimension one Carrollian approach based on the modified Mellin and elucidate how some of the problems of the Celestial approach can be rectified by the Carrollian one. Considering flat holography as a limit from AdS/CFT makes a co-dimension one dual more plausible, and our previous construction of Carrollian correlations from AdS Witten diagrams is testimony to this. In this paper, we show how to generalize our earlier analysis for operators with spin. We work out a large number of explicit non-trivial examples (twelve) and show matching between the limit of AdS$_4$ Witten diagrams and 3d boundary symmetry considerations, thus making the case for the Carrollian dual even stronger.

$g-B_{3}C_{2}N_{3}$: A new potential two dimensional metal-free photocatalyst for overall water splitting

In this work, using a hybrid density functional theory (DFT) based calculation, we propose a new two-dimensional (2D) B-C-N material, $g-B_{3}C_{2}N_{3}$, with the promising prospect of metal-free photocatalysis. A comprehensive investigation demonstrates that it is a near ultraviolet (UV) absorbing direct band gap (3.69 eV) semiconductor with robust dynamical and mechanical stability. Estimating the band positions with respect to water oxidation and hydrogen reduction potential levels, we observe that $g-B_{3}C_{2}N_{3}$ monolayer shows the possibility to be used for hydrogen fuel generation through spontaneous solar water splitting, over a broad pH range. Upon biaxial strain application the band gap decreases with increase in tensile strain, leading to a subsequent red shift in absorption spectra, implying enhanced photon harvest under solar irradiation. Furthermore, due to a combined effect of band gap and work function variation, biaxial strain realigns the band positions, allowing one to control the reducing or oxidizing ability as per requirement to attain environmental sustainability.

Scattering Amplitudes: Celestial and Carrollian

Recent attempts at the construction of holography for asymptotically flat spacetimes have taken two different routes. Celestial holography, involving a two dimensional (2d) CFT dual to 4d Minkowski spacetime, has generated novel results in asymptotic symmetry and scattering amplitudes. A different formulation, using Carrollian CFTs, has been principally used to provide some evidence for flat holography in lower dimensions. Understanding of flatspace scattering has been lacking in the Carroll framework. In this work, using ideas from Celestial holography, we show that 3d Carrollian CFTs living on the null boundary of 4d flatspace can potentially compute bulk scattering amplitudes. 3d Carrollian conformal correlators have two different branches, one depending on the null time direction and one independent of it. We propose that it is the time-dependent branch that is related to bulk scattering. We construct an explicit field theoretic example of a free massless Carrollian scalar that realises some desired properties.

Strain Tunable Photocatalytic Ability of $BC_{6}N$ Monolayer

We explore the photocatalytic ability of honeycomb lattice of borocarbonitride, $BC_{6}N$, investigating its opto-electronic properties and band-edge alignment based on hybrid density functional theory. We observe that along with pronounced visible absorbance, $BC_{6}N$ exhibits a good reducing ability. It is capable of depositing heavy metal ions, hydrogen fuel generation and carbon dioxide sequestration through photoelectrocatalysis. To broaden its applicability we further tune its redox ability using biaxial strain. We observe even a slight expansion makes this material capable of performing simultaneous oxidation and reduction, which is essential for waste management and hydrogen generation through spontaneous water splitting. In this study, we propose $BC_{6}N$ to be a promising potential candidate as metal free 2D photocatalyst and show ways to tune its applicability to address multiple environmental crises.

A Tale of Three. Tensionless strings and vacuum structure

Within the premise of canonical quantisation, we re-examine the quantum structure of bosonic tensionless string theory. In the classical theory, the worldsheet metric degenerates and the Bondi-Metnzer-Sachs (BMS) algebra arises as the residual symmetries on fixing the tensionless equivalent of the conformal gauge. In the quantum regime, we find, on careful examination, that there are multiple ways to impose constraints to restrict the physical Hilbert space, which in turn lead to three distinct choices of tensionless vacua. We analyse these vacua in detail, commenting on various aspects like the central charges and the spectrum around each of them.

Breakdown of electron-pairs in the presence of an electric field of a superconducting ring

The quantum dynamics of quasi-one-dimensional ring with varying electron filling factor is investigated in presence of external electric field. The system is modeled within Hubbard Hamiltonian with attractive Coulomb correlation, which results in superconducting ground state when away from half-filling. The electric field is induced by applying time-dependent Aharonov-Bohm flux in the perpendicular direction. To explore the non-equilibrium phenomena arising from the field, we adopt exact diagonalization and Crank-Nicolson numerical method. With increase in electric field strength, the electron pairs, a signature of superconducting phase, start breaking and the system enters into a metallic phase. However, the strength of the electric field for this quantum phase transition depends on the electronic correlation. This phenomenon has been confirmed by flux-quantization of time-dependent current and pair correlation functions
