Effect of radial flow on two particle correlations with identified triggers at intermediate $p_{T}$ in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = $ 5.02 TeV

Results from the two-particle correlation between identified triggers (pions ($π^{\pm}$) , protons (p/$\bar{p}$))) and un-identified charged particles at intermediate transverse momentum ($p_{T}$) in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = $ 5.02 TeV have been presented. The events generated from a hybrid Monte-Carlo event generator, EPOS 3.107 that implements a flux-tube initial conditions followed by event by event 3+1D viscous hydrodynamical evolution, have been analysed to calculate two-dimensional correlation functions in $Δη$-$Δϕ$. The strength of angular correlations at small relative angles (jet-like correlations), quantified in terms of near-side jet-like per-trigger yield has been calculated as a function of the event multiplicity. The yield associated with pion triggers exhibit negligible multiplicity dependence, while the proton-triggered yield shows a gradual suppression from low to high multiplicity events. In small collision systems like p-Pb where jet modification is expected to be less dominant, the observed suppression may be associated with the hydrodynamical evolution of the bulk system that generates an outward radial flow. Analogous measurements in Au-Au collisions at RHIC energy have shown a hint of dilution in proton-triggered correlation at its highest multiplicity suggesting that the soft physics processes in p-Pb and heavy ion collisions may have qualitative similarity.

Investigating the role of partonic and hadronic dynamics in mass splitting of elliptic anisotropy in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV

The mass ordering of $v_{2}^{hadron}$ is regarded as one of the key signatures of collective behaviour in ultra relativistic heavy ion collisions. This observation has been found to be in compliance with the hydrodynamical response of a strongly interacting system to the initial spatial anisotropy. Flow co-efficients measured with identified particles in p-Pb/d-Au collisions have shown similar mass-splitting of $v_{2}^{hadron}$ indicating towards the presence of collective dynamics in small collision systems. Arguably, small size in the overlap geometry of such colliding systems may not be suitable for hydrodynamical treatment that demands an early thermalization. Studies based on a multi phase transport model suggests that elliptic or triangular anisotropy is primarily due to escape mechanism of partons rather than hydro like collectivity and mass ordering of $v_{2}^{hadron}$ can be generated from coalescence dynamics as implemented in string melting version of AMPT even when parton azimuthal directions are randomized. In this work, studies have been performed on p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV using AMPT model which has been found to explain the elliptic and traingular flow in such a system where escape mechanism is the dominant source of flow generation. We report that the mass splitting of $v_{2}^{hadron}$ can originate independently both at the partonic and hadronic level in the string melting version of the AMPT model.

Numerical study of effects of electrode parameters and image charge on the electric field configuration of RPCs

The working of a resistive plate chamber depends on the electric field applied inside the gas gap. The strength of this electric field inside the gas gap depends on parameters like electrode thickness, permittivity, gas gap, among others. The applied electric field can get significantly modified by space charge effect. This can be a major concern while working in high rate particle physics experiments. Accumulation of space charge generated due to consecutive avalanches can distort the applied field. During this investigation, we have observed that the strength of this perturbation in electric field is a function of the amount of charge, electrode thickness, permittivity, and gas gap. In this paper, we have studied the dependence of the applied field on parameters linked to RPC fabrication, mentioned above. In addition, we have used the method of image to calculate the additional polarisation field due to space charge for a basic five layers of the geometry of an RPC. The variation of the perturbation in electric field with the same three parameters electrode thickness, permittivity, gas gap has also been discussed.

Performance of a prototype bakelite RPC at GIF++ using self-triggered electronics for the CBM Experiment at FAIR

The Muon Chamber (MuCh) is a sub-system of the Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment for the detection of low-mass-vector mesons produced in high energy heavy-ion collisions at beam energies ranging from 2 AGeV to 11 AGeV and decaying in the di-muon channel. MuCh consists of a segmented absorber and four detector triplet stations sandwiched between the absorber segments. At the 3rd and 4th stations of MuCh, Resistive Plate Chambers (RPCs) have been conceived for muon tracking. We have tested the performance of a low resistivity bakelite RPC prototype equipped with self-triggered front end electronics (MuCh-XYTER) for the CBM Muon Chamber. A systematic study on the muon detection efficiency and time resolution has been carried out in a high-rate photon background at the Gamma Irradiation Facility (GIF++) at CERN. The details of the measurement setup and the results are presented here.

Ridge from jet-medium interaction in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN} }$ = 5.02 TeV

In this paper we report the effect of the jet-medium interplay as implemented in EPOS 3 on the ridge like structure observed in high multiplicity p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = $ 5.02 TeV. EPOS 3 takes into account hydrodynamically expanding bulk matter, jets and the jet-medium interaction. The basis of this model is multiple scatterings where each scattering finally produces flux tube / string. In the higher multiplicity event classes where the flux tube/string density is higher, there is a finite probability that the strings will pick up quarks and antiquarks (or diquarks) from the bulk (core) for flux tube breaking to produce jet hadrons (corona) instead of producing them via usual Schwinger mechanism. This will eventually create a correlation between core and corona and also influence the corona-corona correlation as the corona particles containing quarks and antiquarks (or diquarks) from the bulk also carry the fluid information. We report the relative contributions of the core-core, core-corona, corona-core and corona-corona correlations towards the ridge in the high and low multiplicity p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = $ 5.02 TeV using the data generated by EPOS 3. The multiplicity evolution of the ridges in all the cases is also reported.

Longitudinal asymmetry in heavy ion collisions at RHIC

The longitudinal asymmetry arises in relativistic heavy ion collisions due to fluctuation in the number of participating nucleons. This asymmetry causes a shift in the center of mass rapidity of the participant zone. The rapidity shift as well as the longitudinal asymmetry have been found to be significant at the top LHC energy for collisions of identical nuclei. We study the longitudinal asymmetry and its effect on charged particle rapidity distribution and anisotropic flow parameters at relatively lower RHIC energies using a model calculation. The rapidity shift is found to be more pronounced for peripheral collisions, smaller systems and also for lower beam energies due to longitudinal asymmetry. A detailed study has been done by associating the average rapidity shift to a polynomial relation where the coefficients of this polynomial characterize the effect of the asymmetry. We show that the rapidity shift may affect observables significantly at RHIC energies.

Study of medium modified jet shape observables in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV using EPOS and JEWEL event generators

The jet-medium interaction in high energy heavy ion collisions is an important phenomena to characterize the hot and dense medium produced in such collisions. The study of medium-induced modifications to the substructure of inclusive charged jets indicates a redistribution of energy inside the jet cone and provides insight into the energy loss mechanisms of jets in the medium. We investigate the in-medium modification to two jet shape observables i.e., the differential jet shape ($ρ$(r)) and the angularity (g) in the most central $Pb-Pb$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} ~=~ 2.76 $ TeV using two commonly used event generators i.e., JEWEL (recoil OFF) and EPOS-3 in the jet-p$_T$ range of 20-40 GeV/c. JEWEL with recoil OFF has been used primarily as a reference system as that has been found to explain the global jet observables satisfactorily but lacks in jet-shape variables at higher jet-radii. EPOS-3 that explains the bulk properties in such collisions quite well takes into account a hydrodynamically evolving bulk matter, jets and hard-soft interactions. A comparison between the results from these models shows that while JEWEL (recoil OFF) does not explain the distribution of lost energy at higher radii with respect to the jet-axis, EPOS-3 explains the effect quite well. However, in EPOS-3, the partonic energy loss mechanism and secondary hard-soft interactions during hadronization and hadronic cascade phase are different from the conventional jet energy loss models. The current study can, therefore, provide important new insights on mechanisms regarding the modeling of the medium and hard-soft interactions in heavy ion collisions.

Investigating the radial flow like effects using identified triggered correlation in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV

An inclusive baryon to meson enhancement with increase in multiplicity has been observed in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$= 7 TeV. Such a striking feature of the data can be explained by approaches based on hydrodynamics and multi-parton interactions (MPI) coupled with color reconnection (CR) mechanism. In this paper, we investigate the multiplicity evolution of the charged particle yields associated with pions and protons selected from the intermediate $p_{T}$ region where the inclusive baryon to meson enhancement has been observed. The study has been peformed using EPOS 3 (hydrodynamics) and PYTHIA 8 (MPI with CR) event generators in pp collisions at 7 TeV. We find that the response of the individual pion and proton triggered correlation towards these two mechanisms is different and can be used to disentangle the effect of one from the other. The current study can, therefore, provide important insights on the origin of radial flow like effects in high multiplicity pp collisions at the LHC energies.

Effect of plate roughness on the field near RPC plates

The inner surfaces of the electrodes encompassing the gas volume of a Resistive Plate Chamber (RPC) have been found to exhibit asperities with, grossly, three kinds of features. The desired uniform electric field within the gas volume of RPC is expected to be affected due to the presence of these asperities, which will eventually affect the final response from the detector. In this work, an attempt has been made to model the highly complex roughness of the electrode surfaces and compute its effect on the electrostatic field within RPC gas chamber. The calculations have been performed numerically using Finite Element Method (FEM) and Boundary Element Method (BEM) and the two methods have been compared in this context.

Fabrication and Characterisation of Oil-Free Large High Pressure Laminate Resistive Plate Chamber

A large (240 cm $\times$ 120 cm $\times$ 0.2 cm) oil-free High Pressure Laminate (HPL), commonly referred as "bakelite", Resistive Plate Chamber (RPC) has been developed at VECC-Kolkata using locally available P-302 OLTC grade HPL. The chamber has been operated in streamer mode using Argon, Freon(R134a) and Iso-butane in a ratio of 34:57:9 by volume. The electrodes and glue samples have been characterised by measuring their electrical parameters like bulk resistivity and surface resistivity. The performance of the chamber has been studied by measuring the efficiency, its uniformity and stability in detection of cosmic muons. Timing measurement has been performed at a central location of the chamber. The chamber showed an efficiency $>$95$\%$ and time resolution ($σ$), at the point of measurement, $\sim$0.83 ns at 9000V. Details of the material characterisation, fabrication procedure and performance studies have been discussed.

Long Term Performance Studies of Large Oil-Free Bakelite Resistive Plate Chamber

Several high energy physics and neutrino physics experiments worldwide require large-size RPCs to cover wide acceptances. The muon tracking systems in the Iron calorimeter (ICAL) in the INO experiment, India and the near detector in DUNE at Fermilab are two such examples. A (240 cm $\times$ 120 cm $\times$ 0.2 cm) bakelite RPC has been built and tested at Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre, Kolkata, using indigenous materials procured from the local market. No additional lubricant, like oil has been used on the electrode surfaces for smoothening. The chamber is in operation for $>$ 365 days. We have tested the chamber for its long term operation. The leakage current, bulk resistivity, efficiency, noise rate and time resolution of the chamber have been found to be quite stable during the testing peroid. It showed an efficiency $>$ 95$\%$ with an average time resolution of $\sim$0.83 ns at the point of measurement at 9000 V throughout the testing period. Details of the long term performance of the chamber have been discussed.

Numerical study on the effect of design parameters and spacers on RPC signal and timing properties

Numerical calculations have been performed to understand the reason for the observed non-uniform response of a Resistive Plate Chamber (RPC) in a few critical regions such as near edge spacers and corners of the device. In this context, the signal from a RPC due to the passage of muons through different regions has been computed. Also, a simulation of RPC timing properties is presented along with the effect of the applied field, gas mixture and geometrical components.

Performance of a large size triple GEM detector at high particle rate for CBM Experiment at FAIR

In CBM Experiment at FAIR, dimuons will be detected by a Muon Chamber (MUCH) consisting of segmented absorbers of varying widths and tracking chambers sandwiched between the absorber-pairs. In this fixed target heavy-ion collision experiment, operating at highest interaction rate of $10~MHz$ for $Au+Au$ collision, after the first MUCH detector station in its inner radial ring will face a particle rate of $1~MHz/cm^2$. To operate at such a high particle density, GEM technology based detectors have been selected for the first two stations of MUCH. We have reported earlier the performance of several small-size GEM detector prototypes built at VECC for use in MUCH. In this work, we report on a large GEM chamber prototype tested with proton beam of momentum $2.36~GeV/c$ at COSY-Jüelich Germany. The detector was read out using nXYTER ASIC operated in self-triggering mode. An efficiency higher than $96\%$ at $ΔV_{GEM}~=~375.2~V$ was achieved. The variation of efficiency with the rate of incoming protons has been found to vary within $2\%$ when tested up to a maximum rate of $2.8~MHz/cm^2$. The gain was found to be stable at high particle rate with a maximum variation of $\sim~9\%$.

Testing of coalescence mechanism in high energy heavy ion collisions using two-particle correlations with identified particle trigger

In central Au-Au collisions at top RHIC energy, two particle correlation measurements with identified hadron trigger have shown attenuation of near side proton triggered jet-like yield at intermediate transverse momentum ($p{_T}$), 2$< p{_T} <$ 6 GeV/$\it{c}$. The attenuation has been attributed to the anomalous baryon enhancement observed in the single inclusive measurements at the same $p{_T}$ range. The enhancement has been found to be in agreement with the models invoking coalescence of quarks as a mechanism of hadronization. Baryon enhancement has also been observed at LHC in the single inclusive spectra. We study the consequence of such an enhancement on two particle correlations at LHC energy within the framework of A Multi Phase Transport (AMPT) model that implements quark coalescence as a mode of hadronization. In this paper we have calculated the proton over pion ratio and the near side per trigger yield associated to pion and proton triggers at intermediate $p{_T}$ from String Melting (SM) version of AMPT. Results obtained are contrasted with the AMPT Default (Def.) which does not include coalescence. Baryon enhancement has been observed in AMPT SM at intermediate $p{_T}$. Near side jet-like correlated yield associated to baryon (proton) trigger in the momentum region where baryon generation is enhanced is found to be suppressed as compared to the corresponding yields for the meson (pion) trigger in most central Pb-Pb events. No such effect has been found in the Default version of AMPT.

Thermalization of dense hadronic matter in Au + Au collisions at the energies available at FAIR

The conditions of local thermodynamic equilibrium of baryons (non-strange, strange) and mesons (strange) are presented for central Au + Au collisions at FAIR energies using the microscopic transport model UrQMD. The net particle density, longitudinal-to-transverse pressure anisotropy and inverse slope parameters of the energy spectra of non-strange and strange hadrons are calculated inside a cell in the central region within rapidity window $|y| < 1.0$ at different time steps after the collision. We observed that the strangeness content is dominated by baryons at all energies, however contribution from mesons become significant at higher energies. The time scale obtained from local pressure (momentum) isotropization and thermalization of energy spectra are nearly equal and found to decrease with increase in laboratory energy. The equilibrium thermodynamic properties of the system are obtained with statistical thermal model. The time evolution of the entropy densities at FAIR energies are found very similar with the ideal hydrodynamic behaviour at top RHIC energy.

A Novel Method for Soft Error Mitigation in FPGA using Adaptive Cross Parity Code

Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) are more prone to be affected by transient faults in presence of radiation and other environmental hazards compared to Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs). Hence, error mitigation and recovery techniques are absolutely necessary to protect the FPGA hardware from soft errors arising due to such transient faults. In this paper, a new efficient multi-bit error correcting method for FPGAs is proposed using adaptive cross parity check (ACPC) code. ACPC is easy to implement and the needed decoding circuit is also simple. In the proposed scheme total configuration memory is partitioned into two parts. One part will contain ACPC hardware, which is static and assumed to be unaffected by any kind of errors. Other portion will store the binary file for logic, which is to be protected from transient error and is assumed to be dynamically reconfigurable (Partial reconfigurable area). Binary file from the secondary memory passes through ACPC hardware and the bits for forward error correction (FEC) field are calculated before entering into the reconfigurable portion. In the runtime scenario, the data from the dynamically reconfigurable portion of the configuration memory will be read back and passed through the ACPC hardware. The ACPC hardware will correct the errors before the data enters into the dynamic configuration memory. We propose a first of its kind methodology for novel transient fault correction using ACPC code for FPGAs. To validate the design we have tested the proposed methodology with Kintex FPGA. We have also measured different parameters like critical path, power consumption, overhead resource and error correction efficiency to estimate the performance of our proposed method.

FPGA based High Speed Data Acquisition System for High Energy Physics Application

In high energy physics experiments (HEP), high speed and fault resilient data communication is needed between detectors/sensors and the host PC. Transient faults can occur in the communication hardware due to various external effects like presence of charged particles, noise in the environment or radiation effects in HEP experiments and that leads to single/multiple bit error. In order to keep the communication system functional in such a radiation environment where direct intervention of human is not possible, a high speed data acquisition (DAQ) architecture is necessary which supports error recovery. This design presents an efficient implementation of field programmable gate array (FPGA) based high speed DAQ system with optical communication link supported by multi-bit error correcting model. The design has been implemented on Xilinx Kintex-7 board and is tested for board to board communication as well as for PC communication using PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect express). Data communication speed up to 4.8 Gbps has been achieved in board to board and board to PC communication and estimation of resource utilization and critical path delay are also measured.

High speed fault tolerant secure communication for muon chamber using fpga based gbt emulator

The Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment is a part of the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) in Darmstadt at the GSI. The CBM experiment will investigate the highly compressed nuclear matter using nucleus-nucleus collisions. This experiment will examine heavy-ion collisions in fixed target geometry and will be able to measure hadrons, electrons and muons. CBM requires precise time synchronization, compact hardware, radiation tolerance, self-triggered front-end electronics, efficient data aggregation schemes and capability to handle high data rate (up to several TB/s). As a part of the implementation of read out chain of MUCH in India, we have tried to implement FPGA based emulator of GBTx in India. GBTx is a radiation tolerant ASIC that can be used to implement multipurpose high speed bidirectional optical links for high-energy physics (HEP) experiments and is developed by CERN. GBTx will be used in highly irradiated area and more prone to be affected by multi bit error. To mitigate this effect instead of single bit error correcting RS code we have used two bit error correcting (15, 7) BCH code. It will increase the redundancy which in turn increases the reliability of the coded data. So the coded data will be less prone to be affected by noise due to radiation. Data will go from detector to PC through multiple nodes through the communication channel. In order to make the data communication secure, advanced encryption standard (AES - a symmetric key cryptography) and RSA (asymmetric key cryptography) are used after the channel coding.

Parton shadowing and $J/ψ$-to-Drell-Yan ratio in nuclear collisions at SPS and FAIR

We have analyzed the data on $J/ψ$-to-Drell-Yan production cross section ratio in proton-nucleus ($p+A$) and nucleus-nucleus ($A+A$) collisions, measured by the NA50 collaboration in the SPS energy domain. Two component QVZ model has been employed to calculate $J/ψ$ production cross sections. For both $J/ψ$ and Drell-Yan production, nuclear modifications to the free nucleon structure functions are taken into account. In heavy-ion collisions, such modifications are assumed to be proportional to the local nuclear density resulting in centrality dependent initial state effects. Differences in quark and gluon shadowing leads to a new source of impact parameter dependence of the $J/ψ$ to Drell-Yan production ratio. For $J/ψ$, final state interaction of the produced $c\bar{c}$ pairs with the nuclear medium is also taken into account. A satisfactory description of the data in both $p+A$ and $A+A$ collisions is obtained. Role of the shadowing corrections are investigated in detail. Model calculations are extrapolated to predict the centrality dependence of $J/ψ$-to-Drell-Yan ratio in the FAIR energy regime.

Charmonium suppression in a baryon rich quark-gluon plasma

We have investigated the charmonium survival probability, in a high baryon density parton plasma, expected to be produced in nuclear collisions at FAIR. Charmonia are assumed to undergo complete dissociation by color screening, if the in-medium Debye radius becomes comparable to the spatial size of the corresponding bound state. Results indicate a non-trivial dependence of the suppression pattern on the plasma evolution dynamics. A much larger magnitude of suppression is foreseen induced by cold nuclear matter compared to that due to plasma screening.

J/$ψ$ suppression in a dense baryonic medium

We have examined the available latest SPS data on $J/ψ$ suppression in Pb+Pb and In+In collisions at 158 A GeV. Our employed model, with parameters fixed by $p$-$p$ and $p$-nucleus collisions, gives excellent description of NA50 and NA60 data on centrality dependence of $J/ψ$ suppression. The model is then applied to predict the centrality dependence of $J/ψ$ production in Au+Au collisions at FAIR energy domain. A much larger suppression of $J/ψ$ is predicted. In addition the possible effects of a baryon rich medium on $J/ψ$ production is also investigated.

J/Psi production in proton induced collisions at FAIR

We have examined the production of J/$ψ$ mesons in high energy proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions at beam energies in the range from 158 GeV to 920 GeV, available from different fixed target experiments. In the employed model J/$ψ$ production in hadronic collisions is assumed to be a factorisable two step process: (i) production of a $c\bar{c}$ pair which can be reliably described by perturbative QCD, and (ii) formation of J/$ψ$ resonance from the $c\bar{c}$ pair, which can be conveniently parameterized incorporating different existing physical mechanisms of color neutralization. We show that, for lower collision energies, J/$ψ$ production through quark-anti-quark annihilation gives larger contribution at higher $x_F$, while gluon-gluon fusion dominates the production at smaller $x_F$. For proton-nucleus collisions the model takes into account both the initial state modification of parton distributions in nuclei and the final state interaction of the produced $c\bar{c}$ pairs with the target nucleons. The model is found to give reasonable description of data on J/$ψ$ production in protonic and proton-nucleus collisions, for different existing fixed target experiments. In case of proton-nucleus collisions, our calculations show a non-negligible dependence of the final state nuclear dissociation of J/$ψ$ mesons on the energy of the incident proton beam. The model has been applied to predict the J/$ψ$ production and suppression expected in proton-nucleus collisions at energies relevant to FAIR, the upcoming accelerator facility at Darmstadt, Germany. The amount of suppressions, for different mechanisms of J/$ψ$ hadronization has been found to be distinguishably different which might help an experimental settlement of the much controversial issue of color neutralization.

Study of γ-charge correlation in heavy ion collisions, various approaches

Event-by-event γ-charge correlation is used in studying systems going through QCD chiral phase transition. In this paper various methods for measuring γ-charge correlation in heavy ion collisions have been discussed. Dynamical fluctuation due to formation of domains of DCC that can affect γ-charge correlation has been discussed. We study known detector and statistical effects involved in these measurements and suggest suitable robust observables Δν_{dyn} and r_{m,1} sensitive to small γ-charge correlation signal. These variables are constructed based on moments of multiplicity distributions of photon and charged particles. Estimations of expected measurable signals of γ-charge correlation from various available models such as for ideal Boltzmann gas of pions, monte-carlo models based on transport and mini-jets have been discussed. Collision centrality dependence of the observables have been estimated from Central Limit Theorem and found to be consistent with the model predictions. We find that observables show high sensitivity to fraction of DCC events and have nonlinear dependence on fraction of pions carrying DCC signals. Variation of r_{m,1} with orders of its higher moments m is an observable to extract the nature and strength of γ-charge correlation.

Differential elliptic flow of identified hadrons and constituent quark number scaling at FAIR

Differential elliptic flow $v_2(p_{T})$ for identified hadrons has been investigated in the FAIR energy regime, employing a hadronic-string transport model (UrQMD) as well as a partonic transport model (AMPT). It has been observed that both the models show a mass ordering of $v_2$ at low $p_{T}$ and a switch over resulting a baryon-meson crossing at intermediate $p_{T}$. AMPT generates higher $v_2$ values compared to UrQMD. In addition, constituent quark number scaling behavior of elliptic flow has also been addressed. Scaling behavior in terms of the transverse momentum $p_T$ is found to absent for both the partonic as well as the hadronic model. However UrQMD and AMPT with string melting scenario do exhibit a NCQ scaling of $v_2$ at varying degree, with respect to transverse kinetic energy $KE_T$. But default AMPT, where partonic scatterings are not included, does not show any considerable scaling behavior. A variable $α$ is defined to quantify the degree of $KE_T$ scaling. We found that UrQMD gives better scaling than AMPT at FAIR.

Determination of $γ^{direct}/π^0$ using photon-charge particle correlation measurement in high energy heavy ion and pp collisions

A method has been proposed for the determination of $γ$ to $π^0$ ratio in high energy pp and nucleus-nucleus collisions at large transverse momentum ($p_T$). In photon measuring device, it is proposed that shower shape analysis is made to select only cases with wide showers. These candidates come mostly from $π^0$. Correlation is measured between those photon candidates as trigger particles and associated charged particles above selected $p_T$. The ratio of yields of near and far angle correlation peaks for $π^0$ events is compared with correlation peaks from other set of events where trigger particle contains photons for direct-photon jets alongwith $π^0$. The comparative study in reduction of yield of near angle peak is used to extract photon fraction.
