Global existence and minimal decay regularity for the Timoshenko system: The case of non-equal wave speeds

As a continued work of [18], we are concerned with the Timoshenko system in the case of non-equal wave speeds, which admits the dissipative structure of \textit{regularity-loss}. Firstly, with the modification of a priori estimates in [18], we construct global solutions to the Timoshenko system pertaining to data in the Besov space with the regularity $s=3/2$. Owing to the weaker dissipative mechanism, extra higher regularity than that for the global-in-time existence is usually imposed to obtain the optimal decay rates of classical solutions, so it is almost impossible to obtain the optimal decay rates in the critical space. To overcome the outstanding difficulty, we develop a new frequency-localization time-decay inequality, which captures the information related to the integrability at the high-frequency part. Furthermore, by the energy approach in terms of high-frequency and low-frequency decomposition, we show the optimal decay rate for Timoshenko system in critical Besov spaces, which improves previous works greatly.

The frequency-localization technique and minimal decay-regularity for Euler-Maxwell equations

Dissipative hyperbolic systems of \textit{regularity-loss} have been recently received increasing attention. Usually, extra higher regularity is assumed to obtain the optimal decay estimates, in comparison with that for the global-in-time existence of solutions. In this paper, we develop a new frequency-localization time-decay property, which enables us to overcome the technical difficulty and improve the minimal decay-regularity for dissipative systems. As an application, it is shown that the optimal decay rate of $L^1(\mathbb{R}^3)$-$L^2(\mathbb{R}^3)$ is available for Euler-Maxwell equations with the critical regularity $s_{c}=5/2$, that is, the extra higher regularity is not needed.

$L^p$-$L^{q}$-$L^{r}$ estimates and minimal decay regularity for compressible Euler-Maxwell equations

Due to the dissipative structure of \textit{regularity-loss}, extra higher regularity than that for the global-in-time existence is usually imposed to obtain the optimal decay rates of classical solutions to dissipative systems. The aim of this paper is to seek the lowest regularity index for the optimal decay rate of $L^{1}(\mathbb{R}^n)$-$L^2(\mathbb{R}^n)$. Consequently, a notion of minimal decay regularity for dissipative systems of regularity-loss is firstly proposed. To do this, we develop a new time-decay estimate of $L^p(\mathbb{R}^n)$-$L^{q}(\mathbb{R}^n)$-$L^{r}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ type by using the low frequency and high-frequency analysis in Fourier spaces. As an application, for compressible Euler-Maxwell equations with the weaker dissipative mechanism, it is shown that the minimal decay regularity coincides with the critical regularity for global classical solutions. Moreover, the recent decay property for symmetric hyperbolic systems with non-symmetric dissipation is also extended to be the $L^p$-version.

Decay structure for symmetric hyperbolic systems with non-symmetric relaxation and its application

This paper is concerned with the decay structure for linear symmetric hyperbolic systems with relaxation. When the relaxation matrix is symmetric, the dissipative structure of the systems is completely characterized by the Kawashima-Shizuta stability condition formulated in \cite{UKS84,SK85}, and we obtain the asymptotic stability result together with the explicit time-decay rate under that stability condition. However, some physical models which satisfy the stability condition have non-symmetric relaxation term (cf.~the Timoshenko system and the Euler-Maxwell system). Moreover, it had been already known that the dissipative structure of such systems is weaker than the standard type and is of the regularity-loss type (cf.~\cite{D,IHK08,IK08,USK,UK}). Therefore our purpose of this paper is to formulate a new structural condition which include the Kawashima-Shizuta condition, and to analyze the weak dissipative structure for general systems with non-symmetric relaxation.

Frequency-localization Duhamel principle and its application to the optimal decay of dissipative systems

Very recently, a new decay framework has been given by [51] for linearized dissipative hyperbolic systems satisfying the Kawashima-Shizuta condition on the framework of Besov spaces, which allows to pay less attention on the traditional spectral analysis. However, owing to interpolation techniques, the analysis remains valid only for nonlinear systems in higher dimensions $(n\geq3)$ and the corresponding case of low dimensions was left open, which provides the main motivation of this work. Firstly, we develop new time-decay properties on the frequency-localization Duhamel principle. Furthermore, it is shown that the classical solution and its derivatives of fractional order decay at the optimal algebraic rate in dimension 1, by time-weighted energy approaches in terms of low-frequency and high-frequency decompositions. Finally, as applications, decay results for several concrete systems subjected to the same dissipative structure as general hyperbolic systems, for instance, damped compressible Euler equations, thermoelasticity with second sound and Timoshenko systems with equal wave speeds, are also obtained.

Global existence and optimal decay rates for the Timoshenko system: the case of equal wave speeds

This work first gives the global existence and optimal decay rates of solutions to the classical Timoshenko system on the framework of Besov spaces. Due to the \textit{non-symmetric} dissipation, the general theory for dissipative hyperbolic systems ([30]) can not be applied to the Timoshenko system directly. In the case of equal wave speeds, we construct global solutions to the Cauchy problem pertaining to data in the spatially Besov spaces. Furthermore, the dissipative structure enables us to give a new decay framework which pays less attention on the traditional spectral analysis. Consequently, the optimal decay estimates of solution and its derivatives of fractional order are shown by time-weighted energy approaches in terms of low-frequency and high-frequency decompositions. As a by-product, the usual decay estimate of $L^{1}(\mathbb{R})$-$L^{2}(\mathbb{R})$ type is also shown.

The optimal decay estimates for the Euler-Poisson two-fluid system

This work is devoted to the optimal decay problem for the Euler-Poisson two-fluid system, which is a classical hydrodynamic model arising in semiconductor sciences. By exploring the influence of the electronic field on the dissipative structure, it is first revealed that the \textit{irrotationality} plays a key role such that the two-fluid system has the same dissipative structure as generally hyperbolic systems satisfying the Shizuta-Kawashima condition. The fact inspires us to give a new decay framework which pays less attention on the traditional spectral analysis. Furthermore, various decay estimates of solution and its derivatives of fractional order on the framework of Besov spaces are obtained by time-weighted energy approaches in terms of low-frequency and high-frequency decompositions. As direct consequences, the optimal decay rates of $L^{p}(\mathbb{R}^{3})$-$L^{2}(\mathbb{R}^{3})(1\leq p<2)$ type for the Euler-Poisson two-fluid system are also shown.

The optimal decay estimates on the framework of Besov spaces for generally dissipative systems

We give a new decay framework for general dissipative hyperbolic system and hyperbolic-parabolic composite system, which allow us to pay less attention on the traditional spectral analysis in comparison with previous efforts. New ingredients lie in the high-frequency and low-frequency decomposition of a pseudo-differential operator and an interpolation inequality related to homogeneous Besov spaces of negative order. Furthermore, we develop the Littlewood-Paley pointwise energy estimates and new time-weighted energy functionals to establish the optimal decay estimates on the framework of spatially critical Besov spaces for degenerately dissipative hyperbolic system of balance laws. Based on the $L^{p}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$ embedding and improved Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality, the optimal $L^{p}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$-$L^{2}(\mathbb{R}^{n})(1\leq p<2)$ decay rates and $L^{p}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$-$L^{q}(\mathbb{R}^{n})(1\leq p<2\leq q\leq\infty)$ decay rates are further shown. Finally, as a direct application, the optimal decay rates for 3D damped compressible Euler equations are also obtained.

Relaxation limit in larger Besov spaces for compressible Euler equations

The work is devoted to the relaxation limit in larger Besov spaces for compressible Euler equations, which contains previous results in Sobolev spaces and Besov spaces with critical regularity. Such an extension depends on a revision of commutator estimates and an elementary fact which indicates the connection between homogeneous and inhomogeneous Chemin-Lerner spaces.

Global classical solutions for partially dissipative hyperbolic system of balance laws

This work is concerned with ($N$-component) hyperbolic system of balance laws in arbitrary space dimensions. Under entropy dissipative assumption and the Shizuta-Kawashima algebraic condition, a general theory on the well-posedness of classical solutions in the framework of Chemin-Lerner's spaces with critical regularity is established. To do this, we first explore the functional space theory and develop an elementary fact that indicates the relation between homogeneous and inhomogeneous Chemin-Lerner's spaces. Then this fact allows to prove the local well-posedness for general data and global well-posedness for small data by using the Fourier frequency-localization argument. Finally, we apply the new existence theory to a specific fluid model-the compressible Euler equations with damping, and obtain the corresponding results in critical spaces.

Global well-posedness in critical Besov spaces for two-fluid Euler-Maxwell equations

In this paper, we study the well-posedness in critical Besov spaces for two-fluid Euler-Maxwell equations, which is different from the one fluid case. We need to deal with the difficulties mainly caused by the nonlinear coupling and cancelation between two carriers. Precisely, we first obtain the local existence and blow-up criterion of classical solutions to the Cauchy problem and periodic problem pertaining to data in Besov spaces with critical regularity. Furthermore, we construct the global existence of classical solutions with aid of a different energy estimate (in comparison with the one-fluid case) provided the initial data is small under certain norms. Finally, we establish the large-time asymptotic behavior of global solutions near equilibrium in Besov spaces with relatively lower regularity.

Asymptotic Behavior of Solutions to a Model System of a Radiating Gas

In this paper we focus on the initial value problem for a hyperbolic-elliptic coupled system of a radiating gas in multi-dimensional space. By using a time-weighted energy method, we obtain the global existence and optimal decay estimates of solutions. Moreover, we show that the solution is asymptotic to the linear diffusion wave which is given in terms of the heat kernel.

Global Existence and Asymptotic Behavior of Solutions for Quasi-linear Dissipative Plate Equation

In this paper we focus on the initial value problem for quasi-linear dissipative plate equation in multi-dimensional space $(n\geq2)$. This equation verifies the decay property of the regularity-loss type, which causes the difficulty in deriving the global a priori estimates of solutions. We overcome this difficulty by employing a time-weighted $L^2$ energy method which makes use of the integrability of $\|(\p^2_xu_t,\p^3_xu)(t)\|_{L^{\infty}}$. This $L^\infty$ norm can be controlled by showing the optimal $L^2$ decay estimates for lower-order derivatives of solutions. Thus we obtain the desired a priori estimate which enables us to prove the global existence and asymptotic decay of solutions under smallness and enough regularity assumptions on the initial data. Moreover, we show that the solution can be approximated by a simple-looking function, which is given explicitly in terms of the fundamental solution of a fourth-order linear parabolic equation.
