Consistent mass formulas for the four-dimensional dyonic NUT-charged spacetimes

In our previous work, a novel idea that the NUT charge can be thought of as a thermodynamical multi-hair has been advocated to describe perfectly the thermodynamical character of the generic four-dimensional Taub-NUT spacetimes. According to this scheme, the Komar mass M, the gravito-magnetic charge and/or the dual (magnetic) mass N, together with a new secondary hair J_N=MN, namely, a Kerr-like conserved angular momentum, enter into the standard forms of the first law and Bekenstein-Smarr mass formula. Distinguished from other recent attempts, our consistent thermodynamic differential and integral mass formulae are both obtainable from a meaningful Christodoulou-Ruffini-type squared mass formula of almost all of the four-dimensional NUT-charged spacetimes. As an excellent consequence, the famous Bekenstein-Hawking one-quarter area-entropy relation can be naturally restored not only in the Lorentzian sector and but also in the Euclidian counterpart of the generic Taub-NUT-type spacetimes without imposing any constraint condition. However, only purely electric-charged cases in the four-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell gravity theory with a NUT charge have been addressed there. In this paper, we shall follow the simple, systematic way proposed in that article to further investigate the dyonic NUT-charged case. It is shown that the standard thermodynamic relations continue to hold true provided that no new secondary charge is added, however, the so-obtained electrostatic and magneto-static potentials are not coincident with those computed via the standard method. To rectify this inconsistence, a simple strategy is provided by further introducing two additional secondary hairs: Q_N=QN and P_N=PN, together with their thermodynamical conjugate potentials, so that the first law and Bekenstein-Smarr mass formula are still satisfied.

Are ultra-spinning Kerr-Sen-AdS$_4$ black holes always super-entropic ?

We study thermodynamics of the four-dimensional Kerr-Sen-AdS black hole and its ultra-spinning counterpart, and verify that both black holes fullfil the first law and Bekenstein-Smarr mass formulae of black hole thermodynamics. Furthermore, we derive new Christodoulou-Ruffini-like squared-mass formulae for the usual and ultra-spinning Kerr-Sen-AdS$_4$ solutions. We show that this ultra-spinning Kerr-Sen-AdS$_4$ black hole does not always violate the Reverse Isoperimetric Inequality (RII) since the value of the isoperimetric ratio can be larger/smaller than, or equal to unity, depending upon where the solution parameters lie in the parameters space. This property is obviously different from that of the Kerr-Newman-AdS$_4$ super-entropic black hole, which always strictly violates the RII, although both of them have some similar properties in other aspects, such as horizon geometry and conformal boundary. In addition, it is found that while there exists the same lower bound on mass ($m_e \geqslant 8l/\sqrt{27}$ with $l$ being the cosmological scale) both for the extremal ultra-spinning Kerr-Sen-AdS$_4$ black hole and for the extremal super-entropic Kerr-Newman-AdS$_4$ case, the former has a maximal horizon radius: $r_{\rm\, HP} = l/\sqrt{3}$ which is the minimum of the latter. Therefore, these two different kinds of four-dimensional ultra-spinning charged AdS black holes exhibit some significant physical differences .

Aspects of the dyonic Kerr-Sen-AdS$_4$ black hole and its ultraspinning version

We explore some (especially, thermodynamical) properties of the dyonic Kerr-Sen-AdS$_4$ black hole and its ultraspinning counterpart, and check whether or not both black holes satisfy the first law and Bekenstein-Smarr mass formulas. To this end, new Christodoulou-Ruffini-like squared-mass formulae for the usual dyonic Kerr-Sen-AdS$_4$ solution and its ultraspinning cousin are deduced. Similar to the ultraspinning Kerr-Sen-AdS$_4$ black hole case, we demonstrate that the ultraspinning dyonic Kerr-Sen-AdS$_4$ black hole does not always violate the reverse isoperimetric inequality (RII) since the value of the isoperimetric ratio can either be larger/smaller than, or equal to unity, depending upon the range of the solution parameters, as is the case only with an electric charge. This property is apparently distinct from that of the superentropic dyonic Kerr-Newman-AdS$_4$ black hole, which always strictly violates the RII, although both of them have some similar properties in other aspects, such as the horizon geometry and conformal boundary.

Notes on thermodynamics of super-entropic AdS black holes

The super-entropic black hole, which possesses a noncompact horizon topology and violates the reverse isoperimetric inequality, has been found to satisfy both the thermodynamic first law and the Bekenstein-Smarr mass formula. In this paper, we first derive a new Christodoulou-Ruffini-like squared-mass formula for the four-dimensional Kerr-Newman-AdS super-entropic black hole, and then establish a set of very simple relations between thermodynamic quantities of the super-entropic Kerr-Newman-AdS$_4$ black hole and its usual counterparts. Using these relations, the thermodynamic quantities of the Kerr-Newman-AdS$_4$ super-entropic black hole can be obtained from those of the usual pro-type by taking the ultra-spinning limit properly. Then these relations are extended to the singly-rotating Kerr-AdS black holes in arbitrary dimensions and the double-rotating charged black hole in the five-dimensional minimal gauged supergravity. It can be inferred that the thermodynamic quantities of all super-entropic black holes obey similar limiting relations to those of their corresponding conventional rotating AdS black holes, and thus can be obtained by taking the ultra-spinning limit appropriately.

New forms and thermodynamics of the neutral rotating squashed black hole in five-dimensional vacuum Einstein gravity theory

We initiated the program to look for new and simple forms for the five-dimensional rotating squashed black holes by solving directly the equation of motion. In a recent paper, the metric ansatz of dimensional reduction along the fifth spatial dimension was used to obtain a new but rather simple form for the five-dimensional rotating uncharged black hole solution with squashed horizons via solving the vacuum Einstein field equations. In this work, we continue to seek for another new but relatively simple form for the neutral rotating squashed black hole solution by using a different metric ansatz of time-like dimensional reduction. We then find its relation to our previous solution and investigate its thermodynamics by means of the counterterm method. Compared with the previous results given by the other author, both of our new metric forms and their associated thermodynamic expressions are very concise and elegant. Both of two new forms for the neutral rotating squashed black hole solution presented in this paper can be used as the seed to generate its charged generalization in D=5 minimal supergravity.

Approach of background metric expansion to a new metric ansatz for gauged and ungauged Kaluza-Klein supergravity black holes

In a previous paper [S.Q. Wu, Phys. Rev. D 83, 121502(R) (2011)], a new kind of metric ansatz was found to fairly describe all already known black hole solutions in the ungauged Kaluza-Klein (KK) supergravity theories. That metric ansatz somewhat resembles to the famous Kerr-Schild (KS) form, but it is different from the KS one in two distinct aspects. That is, apart from a global conformal factor, the metric ansatz can be written as a vacuum background spacetime plus a "perturbation" modification term, the latter of which is associated with a timelike geodesic vector field rather than a null geodesic congruence in the usual KS ansatz. In this paper, we shall study this novel metric ansatz in detail, aiming at achieving some inspiration as to the construction of rotating charged AdS black holes with multiple charges in other gauged supergravity theories. In order to investigate the metric properties of the general KK-AdS solutions, in this paper we devise a new effective method, dubbed the background metric expansion method, which can be thought of as a generalization of the perturbation expansion method, to deal with the Lagrangian and all equations of motion. In addition to two previously known conditions, namely the timelike and geodesic properties of the vector, we get the three additional constraints via contracting the Maxwell and Einstein equations once or twice with this timelike geodesic vector. In particular, we find that these are a simple set of sufficient conditions to determine the vector and the dilaton scalar around the background metric, which is helpful in obtaining new exact solutions. With these five simplified equations in hand, we rederive the general rotating charged KK-(A)dS black hole solutions with spherical horizon topology and obtain new solutions with planar topology in all dimensions.

Thermodynamics of static dyonic AdS black holes in the $ω$-deformed Kaluza-Klein gauged supergravity theory

We study thermodynamical properties of static dyonic AdS black holes in four-dimensional $ω$-deformed Kaluza-Klein gauged supergravity theory, and find that the differential first law requires a modification via introducing a new pair of thermodynamical conjugate variables (X, Y). To ensure such a modification, we then apply the quasi-local ADT formalism developed in Ref. [20] to calculate the quasi-local conserved charge and identify that the new pair is precisely the one previously introduced to modify the differential form of first law.

Hawking radiation from rotating AdS black holes in conformal gravity

We extend to study Hawking radiation via tunneling in conformal gravity. We adopt Parikh-Wilczek's semi-classical tunneling method and the method of complex-path integral to investigate Hawking radiation from new rotating AdS black holes in conformal gravity. In this paper, the research on Hawking radiation from the rotating black holes is done in a general system, not limited in dragging coordinate systems any longer. Moreover, there existed some shortcomings in the previous derivation of geodesic equations. Different from the massless case, they used a different approach to derive the geodesic equation of the massive particles. Even the treatment was inconsistent with the variation principle of action. To remedy the shortcoming, we improve treatment to deduce the geodesic equations of massive and massless particles in a unified and self-consistent way. In addition, we also recover the Hawking temperature resorting to the complex-path integral method.

Thermodynamics of five-dimensional static three-charge STU black holes with squashed horizons

We present a new expression for the five-dimensional static Kaluza-Klein black hole solution with squashed $S^3$ horizons and three different charge parameters. This black hole solution belongs to $D = 5$ $N = 2$ supergravity theory, its spacetime is locally asymptotically flat and has a spatial infinity $R \times S^1 \hookrightarrow S^2$. The form of the solution is extraordinary simple and permits us very conveniently to calculate its conserved charges by using the counterterm method. It is further shown that our thermodynamical quantities perfectly obey both the differential and the integral first laws of black hole thermodynamics if the length of the compact extra-dimension can be viewed as a thermodynamical variable.

General Nonextremal Rotating Charged AdS Black Holes in Five-dimensional $U(1)^3$ Gauged Supergravity: A Simple Construction Method

With the help of a generalized form of the metric ansatz found for the single-charge case in a previous work [S.Q. Wu, Phys. Rev. D 83, 121502(R) (2011)], I adopt a simple algorithm to construct the most general nonextremal rotating charged black hole solutions in five-dimensional $U(1)^3$ gauged supergravity. The general solution that is interesting for testing the AdS$_5$/CFT$_4$ correspondence in M-theory, is characterized by its mass, two unequal rotation parameters, three different U(1) charges, and a negative cosmological constant. The metric ansatz is very universal and illuminative, it is not only especially suitable for constructing solutions with multiple different electric charges in (un)gauged supergravities, but also for other dilatonic gravity theory.

General Rotating Charged Kaluza-Klein AdS Black Holes in Higher Dimensions

I construct exact solutions for general nonextremal rotating, charged Kaluza-Klein black holes with a cosmological constant and with arbitrary angular momenta in all higher dimensions. I then investigate their thermodynamics and find their generalizations with the NUT charges. The metrics are given in both Boyer-Lindquist coordinates and a form very similar to the famous Kerr-Schild ansatz, which highlights its potential application to include multiple electric charges into solutions yet to be found in gauged supergravity. It is also observed that the metric ansatz in $D = 4$ dimensions is similar to those previously suggested by Yilmaz and later by Bekenstein.

Thermodynamics and Hawking radiation of five-dimensional rotating charged Gödel black holes

We study the thermodynamics of Gödel-type rotating charged black holes in five-dimensional minimal supergravity. These black holes exhibit some peculiar features such as the presence of closed time-like curves and the absence of globally spatial-like Cauchy surface. We explicitly compute their energies, angular momenta, and electric charges that are consistent with the first law of thermodynamics. Besides, We extend the covariant anomaly cancellation method, as well as the approach of the effective action, to derive their Hawking fluxes. Both the methods of the anomaly cancellation and effective action give the same Hawking fluxes as those from Planck distribution for blackbody radiation in the background of the charged rotating Gödel black holes. Our results further support that Hawking radiation is a quantum phenomenon arising at the event horizon.

Two-charged non-extremal rotating black holes in seven-dimensional gauged supergravity: The single-rotation case

We construct the solution for non-extremal charged rotating black holes in seven-dimensional gauged supergravity, in the case with only one rotation parameter and two independent charges. Using the Boyer-Lindquist coordinates, the metric is expressed in a generalized form of the ansatz previously presented in [S.Q. Wu, Phys. Rev. D 83 (2011) 121502(R)], which may be helpful to find the most general non-extremal two-charged rotating black hole with three unequal rotation parameters. The conserved charges for thermodynamics are also computed.

Hawking Radiation of Black Holes in Infrared Modified Hořava-Lifshitz Gravity

We study the Hawking radiation of the spherically symmetric, asymptotically flat black holes in the infrared modified Horava-Lifshitz gravity by applying the methods of covariant anomaly cancellation and effective action, as well as the approach of Damour-Ruffini-Sannan's. These black holes behave as the usual Schwarzschild ones of the general relativity when the radial distance is very large. We also extend the method of covariant anomaly cancellation to derive the Hawking temperature of the spherically symmetric, asymptotically AdS black holes that represent the analogues of the Schwarzschild AdS ones.

Extremal Kerr/CFT correspondence of five-dimensional rotating (charged) black holes with squashed horizons

A new holographic duality named Kerr/CFT correspondence was recently proposed to derive the statistical entropy of four-dimensional extremal Kerr black holes via identifying the quantum states in the near-horizon region with those of two-dimensional conformal field theory living on the boundary. In this paper, we apply this method to investigate five-dimensional extremal Kerr and Cvetič-Youm black holes with squashed horizons in different coordinates and find that the near-horizon geometries are not affected by the squashing transformation. Our investigation shows that the microscopic entropies are in agreement with those given by Bekenstein-Hawking formula. In addition, we have also investigated thermodynamics of the general non-extremal Cvetič-Youm black holes with squashed horizons.

Separability of a modified Dirac equation in a five-dimensional rotating, charged black hole in string theory

The aim of this paper is to investigate the separability of a spin-1/2 spinor field in a five-dimensional rotating, charged black hole constructed by Cvetic and Youm in string theory, in the case when three U(1) charges are set equal. This black hole solution represents a natural generalization of the famous four-dimensional Kerr-Newman solution to five dimensions with the inclusion of a Chern-Simons term to the Maxwell equation. It is shown that the usual Dirac equation can not be separated by variables in this general spacetime with two independent angular momenta. However if one supplements an additional counterterm into the usual Dirac operator, then the modified Dirac equation for the spin-1/2 spinor particles is separable in this rotating, charged Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons black hole background geometry. A first-order symmetry operator that commutes with the modified Dirac operator has exactly the same form as that previously found in the uncharged Myers-Perry black hole case. It is expressed in terms of a rank-three totally antisymmetric tensor and its covariant derivative. This tensor obeys a generalized Killing-Yano equation and its square is a second-order symmetric Stackel-Killing tensor admitted by the five-dimensional rotating, charged black hole spacetime.

Separability of massive field equations for spin-0 and spin-1/2 charged particles in the general non-extremal rotating charged black holes in minimal five-dimensional gauged supergravity

We continue to investigate the separability of massive field equations for spin-0 and spin-1/2 charged particles in the general, non-extremal, rotating, charged, Chong-Cvetic-Lu-Pope black holes with two independent angular momenta and a non-zero cosmological constant in minimal D = 5 gauged supergravity theory. We show that the complex Klein-Gordon equation and the modified Dirac equation with the inclusion of an extra counter-term can be separated by variables into purely radial and purely angular parts in this general Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons background spacetime. A second order symmetry operator that commutes with the complex Laplacian operator is constructed from the separated solutions and expressed compactly in terms of a rank-2 Stackel-Killing tensor which admits a simple diagonal form in the chosen pentad one-forms so that it can be understood as the square of a rank-3 totally anti-symmetric tensor. A first order symmetry operator that commutes with the modified Dirac operator is expressed in terms of a rank-3 generalized Killing-Yano tensor and its covariant derivative. The Hodge dual of this generalized Killing-Yano tensor is a generalized principal conformal Killing-Yano tensor of rank-2, which can generate a `tower' of generalized (conformal) Killing-Yano and Stackel-Killing tensors that are responsible for the whole hidden symmetries of this general, rotating, charged, Kerr-AdS black hole geometry. In addition, the first laws of black hole thermodynamics have been generalized to the case that the cosmological constant can be viewed as a thermodynamical variable.

Hawking radiation from dilatonic black holes via anomalies

Recently, Hawking radiation from a Schwarzschild-type black hole via gravitational anomaly at the horizon has been derived by Robinson and Wilczek. Their result shows that, in order to demand general coordinate covariance at the quantum level to hold in the effective theory, the flux of the energy momentum tensor required to cancel gravitational anomaly at the horizon of the black hole, is exactly equal to that of (1+1)-dimensional blackbody radiation at the Hawking temperature. In this paper, we attempt to apply the analysis to derive Hawking radiation from the event horizons of static, spherically symmetric dilatonic black holes with arbitrarily coupling constant $α$, and that from the rotating Kaluza-Klein $(α= \sqrt{3})$ as well as the Kerr-Sen ($α= 1$) black holes via an anomalous point of view. Our results support Robinson-Wilczek's opinion. In addition, the properties of the obtained physical quantities near the extreme limit are qualitatively discussed.

Hawking radiation as tunneling from the Kerr and Kerr-Newman black holes

Recent work, which treats the Hawking radiation as a semi-classical tunneling process at the horizon of the Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordstrom spacetimes, indicates that the exact radiant spectrum is no longer pure thermal after considering the black hole background as dynamical and the conservation of energy. In this paper, we extend the method to investigate Hawking radiation as massless particles tunneling across the event horizon of the Kerr black hole and that of charged particles from the Kerr-Newman black hole by taking into account the energy conservation, the angular momentum conservation, and the electric charge conservation. Our results show that when self-gravitation is considered, the tunneling rate is related to the change of Bekenstein-Hawking entropy and the derived emission spectrum deviates from the pure thermal spectrum, but is consistent with an underlying unitary theory.

Hawking radiation of charged particles as tunneling from Reissner-Nordstrom-de Sitter black holes with a global monopole

Applying Parikh's semi-classical tunneling method, we consider Hawking radiation of the charged massive particles as a tunneling process from the Reissner-Nordstrom-de Sitter black hole with a global monopole. The result shows that the tunneling rate is related to the change of Bekenstein-Hawking entropy and the radiant spectrum is not a pure thermal one, but is consistent with an underlying unitary theory.
