Nucleon isovector tensor charge from lattice QCD with physical light quarks

We present preliminary results for the axial, scalar and tensor charges of the nucleon measured in 2+1 flavor QCD with the physical light quarks ($m_π=135$ MeV). Our simulations are carried out with gauge configurations generated by the PACS Collaboration with the stout-smeared $O(a)$ improved Wilson fermions and Iwasaki gauge action at a single lattice spacing of $0.085\ (\mathrm{fm})$. There are two lattice ensembles of the PACS gauge configurations, which have physical lattice sizes over $(10\ \mathrm{fm})^4$ and $(5\ \mathrm{fm})^4$, respectively. We compute the nucleon three-point correlation functions in the axial, scalar, and tensor channels. For the renormalization, we use the Rome-Southampton method as the intermediate scheme in order to evaluate the renormalization constants for the scalar and tensor currents in fully nonperturbative manner. We then evaluate the renormalized values of the scalar and tensor charges ($g_S$ and $g_T$) in the $\overline{\rm MS}$ scheme at the renormalization scale of 2 GeV with a help of the continuum perturbation theory for the matching between two schemes. We compare our preliminary results of $g_S$ and $g_T$ with those of other collaboration results.

The lower moments of nucleon structure functions in lattice QCD with physical quark masses

We present results for the nucleon structure functions and form factors obtained from 2+1 flavor lattice QCD with physical light quark masses ($m_π=135$ MeV) in a large spatial extent of about 10 fm. Our calculations are performed with the PACS10 gauge configurations generated by the PACS Collaboration with the six stout-smeared ${\mathscr{O}}(a)$ improved Wilson-clover quark action and Iwasaki gauge action at $β=1.82$ and $2.00$ corresponding to lattice spacings of $0.085$ fm and $0.064$ fm respectively. The lower moments of structure functions, $\langle x \rangle_{u-d}$ and $\langle x \rangle_{Δu - Δd}$ given by the twist-2 operators being properly renormalized, are evaluated in the $\overline{\rm MS}$ scheme at the renormalization scale of 2 GeV only at $β=1.82$, since the renormalization factors at $β=2.00$ have not yet determined nonperturbatively in the RI/MOM scheme. Instead, at two lattice spacings, we evaluate appropriate ratios of $g_{A}/g_{V}$ and $\langle x \rangle_{u-d}/\langle x \rangle_{Δu -Δd}$, which are not renormalized in the continuum limit. These quantities thus can be directly compared with the experimental data without the renormalization.

Nucleon form factors and root-mean-square radii on a (10.8 fm$)^4$ lattice at the physical point

We present the nucleon form factors and root-mean-square (RMS) radii measured on a (10.8 fm$)^4$ lattice at the physical point. We compute the form factors at small momentum transfer region in $q^2\le 0.102$ GeV$^2$ with the standard plateau method choosing four source-sink separation times $t_{\rm sep}$ from 0.84 to 1.35 fm to examine the possible excited state contamination. We obtain the electric and magnetic form factors and their RMS radii for not only the isovector channel but also the proton and neutron ones without the disconnected diagram. We also obtain the axial-vector coupling and the axial radius from the axial-vector form factor. We find that these three form factors do not show large $t_{\rm sep}$ dependence in our lattice setup. On the other hand, the induced pseudoscalar and pseudoscalar form factors show the clear effects of the excited state contamination, which affect the generalized Goldberger-Treiman relation.

Image-processing the topological charge density in the CP(N-1) model

We study the topological charge density distribution using the two-dimensional $CP^{N-1}$ model. We numerically compute not only the topological susceptibility, which is a spatially global quantity to probe topological properties of the whole system, but also the topological charge correlator with finite momentum. We perform Fourier power spectrum analysis for the topological charge density for various values of the inverse temperature $β$. We propose to utilize the Fourier entropy as a convenient measure to characterize spatial distribution patterns and demonstrate that the Fourier entropy exhibits nontrivial temperature dependence. We also consider the snapshot entropy defined with the singular value decomposition, which also turns out to behave nonmonotonically with the temperature. We give a possible interpretation suggested from the strong-coupling analysis.

Lattice gradient flow with tree-level $\mathcal{O}(a^4)$ improvement in pure Yang-Mills theory

Following a recent paper by Fodor et al. (arXiv:1406.0827), we reexamine several types of tree-level improvements on the flow action with various gauge actions in order to reduce the lattice discretization errors in the Yang-Mills gradient flow method. We propose two types of tree-level, $\mathcal{O}(a^4)$ improved lattice gradient flow including the rectangle term in both the flow and gauge action within the minimal way. We then perform numerical simulations with the simple plaquette gauge action for testing our proposal. Our numerical results of the expectation value of the action density, $\langle E(t)\rangle$, show that two $\mathcal{O}(a^4)$ improved flows significantly eliminate the discretization corrections in the small flow time $t$ regime. On the other hand, the values of $t^2\langle E(t)\rangle$ in the large $t$ regime, where the lattice spacing dependence of the tree-level term dies out as inverse powers of $t/a^2$, are different between the results given by two optimal flows leading to the same $\mathcal{O}(a^4)$ improvement at tree level. This may suggest that non-negligible $\mathcal{O}(g^2 a^2)$ effect sets in the large $t$ regime, where the running coupling $g(1/\sqrt{8t})$ becomes large.

Potential description of charmonium and charmed-strange mesons from lattice QCD

We present spin-independent and spin-spin interquark potentials for the charmonium and charmed-strange mesons, which are calculated in 2+1 flavor lattice QCD simulations using the PACS-CS gauge configurations generated at the lightest pion mass ($M_π\approx 156(7)$~MeV) with a lattice cutoff of $a^{-1}\approx 2.2$ GeV and a spatial volume of $(3~{\rm fm})^3$. For the charm quark, we use a relativistic heavy quark (RHQ) action with fine tuned RHQ parameters, which closely reproduce both the experimental spin-averaged mass and hyper-fine splitting of the $1S$ charmonium. The interquark potential and the quark kinetic mass, both of which are key ingredients within the potential description of heavy-heavy and heavy-light mesons, are determined from the equal-time Bethe-Salpeter (BS) amplitude. The charmonium potentials are obtained from the BS wave function of $1S$ charmonia ($η_c$ and $J/ψ$ mesons), while the charmed-strange potential are calculated from the $D_s$ and $D_s^{\ast}$ heavy-light mesons. We then use resulting potentials and quark masses as purely theoretical inputs so as to solve the nonrelativistic Schrödinger equation for calculating accessible energy levels of charmonium and charmed-strange mesons without unknown parameters. The resultant spectra below the $D\bar{D}$ and $DK$ thresholds excellently agree with well-established experimental data.

Potential description of the charmonium from lattice QCD

We present spin-independent and spin-spin interquark potentials for charmonium states, that are calculated using a relativistic heavy quark action for charm quarks on the PACS-CS gauge configurations generated with the Iwasaki gauge action and 2+1 flavors of Wilson clover quark. The interquark potential with finite quark masses is defined through the equal-time Bethe-Salpeter amplitude. The light and strange quark masses are close to the physical point where the pion mass corresponds to $M_π\approx 156(7)$ MeV, and charm quark mass is tuned to reproduce the experimental values of $η_c$ and $J/ψ$ states. Our simulations are performed with a lattice cutoff of $a^{-1}\approx 2.2$ GeV and a spatial volume of $(3 {\rm fm})^3$. We solve the nonrelativistic Schrödinger equation with resulting charmonium potentials as theoretical inputs. The resultant charmonium spectrum below the open charm threshold shows a fairly good agreement with experimental data of well-established charmonium states.

Heavy quarkonium potential from Bethe-Salpeter wave function on the lattice

We propose a novel method for the determination of the interquark potential together with quark "kinetic mass'' $m_Q$ from the equal-time $Q\bar{Q}$ Bethe-Salpeter (BS) amplitude in lattice QCD. Our approach allows us to calculate spin-dependent $Q\bar{Q}$ potentials, e.g. the spin-spin potential, as well. In order to investigate several systematic uncertainties on such $Q\bar{Q}$ potentials, we carry out lattice QCD simulations using quenched gauge configurations generated with the single plaquette gauge action with three different lattice spacings, $a \approx$ 0.093, 0.068 and 0.047 fm, and two different physical volumes, $L \approx$ 2.2 and 3.0 fm. For heavy quarks, we employ the relativistic heavy quark (RHQ) action which can control large discretization errors introduced by large quark mass $m_Q$. The spin-independent central $Q\bar{Q}$ potential for the charmonium system yields the "Coulomb plus linear'' behavior with good scaling and small volume dependence. We explore the quark mass dependence over the wide mass range from the charm to beyond the bottom region, and then demonstrate that the spin-independent central $Q\bar{Q}$ potential in the $m_Q \to \infty$ limit is fairly consistent with the static $Q\bar{Q}$ potential obtained from Wilson loops. The spin-spin potential at finite quark mass provides a repulsive interaction with a finite range, which becomes narrower as the quark mass increases. We also discuss the applicability of the $1/m_Q$ expansion approach for the spin-spin potential.

Lüscher's finite size method with twisted boundary conditions: an application to $J/ψ$-$ϕ$ system to search for narrow resonance

We investigate an application of twisted boundary conditions for study of low-energy hadron-hadron interactions with Lüshcer's finite size method. It allows us to calculate the phase shifts for elastic scattering of two hadrons at any small value of the scattering momentum even in a finite volume. We then can extract model independent information of low-energy scattering parameters such as the scattering length, the effective range and the effective volume from the $S$-wave and $P$-wave scattering phase shifts through the effective range expansion. This approach also enables us to examine the existence of near-threshold and narrow resonance states, of which characteristic is observed in many of newly discovered charmonium-like $XYZ$ mesons. As a simple example, we demonstrate our method for low-energy $J/ψ$-$ϕ$ scatterings to search for Y(4140) resonance using 2+1 flavor PACS-CS gauge configurations at the lightest pion mass, $m_π=156$ MeV.

Charmonium potential from full lattice QCD

We present both spin-independent and -dependent parts of a central interquark potential for charmonium states, which is calculated in 2+1 flavor dynamical lattice QCD using the PACS-CS gauge configurations with a lattice cutoff of a^{-1}~2.2 GeV. Our simulations are performed with a relativistic heavy quark action for the charm quark at the lightest pion mass, M_π=156(7) MeV, in a spatial volume of 3fm^3. We observe that the spin-independent charmonium potential obtained from lattice QCD with almost physical quark masses is quite similar to the Conrnell potential used in non-relativistic potential models. The spin-spin potential properly exhibits the short range repulsive interaction, while its r-dependence is different from either a point-like spin-spin potential generated by one-gluon exchange or a phenomenological finite-range one adopted in quark potential models.

Complex Heavy-Quark Potential at Finite Temperature from Lattice QCD

We calculate for the first time the complex potential between a heavy quark and antiquark at finite temperature across the deconfinement transition in lattice QCD. The real and imaginary part of the potential at each separation distance $r$ is obtained from the spectral function of the thermal Wilson loop. We confirm the existence of an imaginary part above the critical temperature $T_C$, which grows as a function of $r$ and underscores the importance of collisions with the gluonic environment for the melting of heavy quarkonia in the quark-gluon-plasma.

Hyperon vector form factor from 2+1 flavor lattice QCD

We present the first result for the hyperon vector form factor f_1 for Xi^0 -> Sigma^+ l bar{nu} and Sigma^- -> n l bar{nu} semileptonic decays from fully dynamical lattice QCD. The calculations are carried out with gauge configurations generated by the RBC and UKQCD collaborations with (2+1)-flavors of dynamical domain-wall fermions and the Iwasaki gauge action at beta=2.13, corresponding to a cutoff 1/a=1.73 GeV. Our results, which are calculated at the lighter three sea quark masses (the lightest pion mass down to approximately 330 MeV), show that a sign of the second-order correction of SU(3) breaking on the hyperon vector coupling f_1(0) is negative. The tendency of the SU(3) breaking correction observed in this work disagrees with predictions of both the latest baryon chiral perturbation theory result and large N_c analysis.

Hyperon vector coupling f_1(0) from 2+1 flavor lattice QCD

We present results for the hyperon vector form factor f_1 for $Ξ^0 \rightarrow Σ^+ l\barν$ and $Σ^- \rightarrow n l\barν$ semileptonic decays from dynamical lattice QCD with domain-wall quarks. Simulations are performed on the 2+1 flavor gauge configurations generated by the RBC and UKQCD Collaborations with a lattice cutoff of 1/a = 1.7 GeV. Our preliminary results, which are calculated at the lightest sea quark mass (pion mass down to approximately 330 MeV), show that a sign of the second-order correction of SU(3) breaking on hyperon vector coupling f_1(0) is likely negative.

Interquark potential for the charmonium system with almost physical quark masses

We study an interquark QQ^bar potential for the charmonium system, that is determined from the the equal-time and Coulomb gauge QQ^bar Bethe-Salpeter (BS) wavefunction through the effective Schrödinger equation. This novel approach enables us to evaluate a kinetic heavy quark mass m_Q and a proper interquark potential at finite quark mass m_Q, which receives all orders of 1/m_Q corrections on the static QQ^bar potential from Wilson loops, simultaneously. Precise information of the interquark potential for both charmonium and bottomonium states directly from lattice QCD provides us a chance to improve quark potential models, where the spin-independent interquark potential is phenomenologically described by the Cornell potential and the spin-dependent parts are deduced within the framework of perturbative QCD, from first-principles calculations. In this study, calculations are carried out in both quenched and dynamical fermion simulations. We first demonstrate that the interquark potential at finite quark mass calculated by the BS amplitude method smoothly approaches the conventional static heavy quark potential from Wilson loops in the infinitely heavy quark limit within quenched lattice QCD simulations. Secondly, we determine both spin-independent and -dependent parts of the interquark potential for the charmonium system in 2+1 flavor dynamical lattice QCD using the PACS-CS gauge configurations at the lightest pion mass, M_π=156 MeV.

Interquark potential with finite quark mass from lattice QCD

We present an investigation of the interquark potential determined from the qq^bar Bethe-Salpeter (BS) amplitude for heavy quarkonia in lattice QCD. The qq^bar potential at finite quark mass m_q can be calculated from the equal-time and Coulomb gauge BS amplitude through the effective Schrödinger equation. The definition of the potential itself requires information about a kinetic mass of the quark. We then propose a self-consistent determination of the quark kinetic mass on the same footing. To verify the proposed method, we perform quenched lattice QCD simulations with a relativistic heavy quark action at a lattice cutoff of 1/a ~ 2.1 GeV in a range of the quark kinetic mass, 1.0 {\ge} m_q {\ge} 3.6 GeV. Our numerical results show that the qq^bar potential in the infinitely heavy quark limit (m_q -> {\infty}) is fairly consistent with the conventional one obtained from Wilson loops. The quark mass dependence of the qq^bar potential and the spin-spin potential are also examined.

Charmonium-nucleon interaction from lattice QCD with a relativistic heavy quark action

Detailed information of the low-energy interaction between the charmonia (ηc and J/ψ) and the nucleon is indispensable for exploring the formation of charmonium bound to nuclei. In order to investigate the charmonium-nucleon interactions at low energies, we adopt two essentially different approaches in lattice QCD simulations. The charmonium-nucleon potential can be calculated from the equal-time Bethe-Salpeter amplitude through the effective Schrödinger equation. This novel method is based on the same idea originally applied for the nucleon force by Aoki- Hatsuda-Ishii. Another approach is to utilize extended Lüscher's formula with partially twisted boundary conditions, which allows us to calculate the s-wave phase shift at any small value of the relative momentum even in a finite box. We then extract model independent information of the scattering length and the effective range from the phase shift through the effective-range expansion. Our simulations are carried out at a lattice cutoff of $1/a \approx$ 2 GeV in a spatial volume of (3 fm)^3 with the non-perturbatively O(a)-improved Wilson fermions for the light quarks and a relativistic heavy quark action for the charm quark. Although our main results are calculated in quenched lattice calculations, we also present a preliminary full QCD result by using the 2+1 flavor gauge configurations generated by PACS-CS Collaboration. We have found that the charmonium-nucleon potential is weakly attractive at short distances and exponentially screened at large distances. We have also successfully evaluated both the scattering length and effective range from the charmonium-nucleon scattering phase shift.

Charmonium-nucleon potential from lattice QCD

We present results for charmonium-nucleon potential $V_{c\bar{c}-N}(r)$ from quenched lattice QCD, which is calculated from the equal-time Bethe-Salpeter amplitude through the effective Schrödinger equation. Detail information of the low-energy interaction between the nucleon and charmonia ($η_c$ and $J/ψ$) is indispensable for exploring the formation of charmonium bound to nuclei. Our simulations are performed at a lattice cutoff of $1/a\approx 2.1$ GeV in a spatial volume of $(3 fm)^3$ with the nonperturbatively $O(a)$ improved Wilson action for the light quarks and a relativistic heavy quark action for the charm quark. We have found that the potential $V_{c\bar{c}-N}(r)$ for either the $η_c$ and $J/ψ$ states is weakly attractive at short distances and exponentially screened at large distances. The spin averaged $J/ψ$-$N$ potential is slightly more attractive than that of the $η_c$-$N$ case.

Nucleon isovector structure functions in (2+1)-flavor QCD with domain wall fermions

We report on numerical lattice QCD calculations of some of the low moments of the nucleon structure functions. The calculations are carried out with gauge configurations generated by the RBC and UKQCD collaborations with (2+1)-flavors of dynamical domain wall fermions and the Iwasaki gauge action ($β= 2.13$). The inverse lattice spacing is $a^{-1} = 1.73$ GeV, and two spatial volumes of ((2.7{\rm fm})^3) and ((1.8 {\rm fm})^3) are used. The up and down quark masses are varied so the pion mass lies between 0.33 and 0.67 GeV while the strange mass is about 12 % heavier than the physical one. The structure function moments we present include fully non-perturbatively renormalized iso-vector quark momentum fraction, (< x >_{u-d}), helicity fraction, (< x >_{Δu - Δd}), and transversity, (< 1 >_{δu - δd}), as well as an unrenormalized twist-3 coefficient, (d_1). The ratio of the momentum to helicity fractions, (< x >_{u-d}/< x >_{Δu - Δd}), does not show dependence on the light quark mass and agrees well with the value obtained from experiment. Their respective absolute values, fully renormalized, show interesting trends toward their respective experimental values at the lightest quark mass. A prediction for the transversity, (0.7 < < 1 >_{δu -δd} < 1.1), in the (\bar{\rm MS}) scheme at 2 GeV is obtained. The twist-3 coefficient, (d_1), though yet to be renormalized, supports the perturbative Wandzura-Wilczek relation.

Study of charmonium-nucleon interaction in lattice QCD

We report preliminary results for charmonium-nucleon potential $V_{c\bar{c} N}(r)$ from quenched lattice QCD, which is calculated from the equal-time Bethe-Salpeter amplitude through the effective Schrödinger equation. Our simulations are performed at a lattice cutoff of $1/a$=2.0 GeV in a spatial volume of $(3\;\text{fm})^3$ with the nonperturbatively $O(a)$ improved Wilson action for the light quarks and a relativistic heavy quark action for the charm quark. We have found that the potential $V_{c\bar{c} N}(r)$ is weakly attractive at short distance and exponentially screened at long distance.

Nucleon form factors with 2+1 flavor dynamical domain-wall fermions

We report our numerical lattice QCD calculations of the isovector nucleon form factors for the vector and axialvector currents: the vector, induced tensor, axialvector, and induced pseudoscalar form factors. The calculation is carried out with the gauge configurations generated with N_f=2+1 dynamical domain wall fermions and Iwasaki gauge actions at beta = 2.13, corresponding to a cutoff 1/a = 1.73 GeV, and a spatial volume of (2.7 fm)^3. The up and down quark masses are varied so the pion mass lies between 0.33 and 0.67 GeV while the strange quark mass is about 12% heavier than the physical one. We calculate the form factors in the range of momentum transfers, 0.2 < q^2 < 0.75 GeV^2. The vector and induced tensor form factors are well described by the conventional dipole forms and result in significant underestimation of the Dirac and Pauli mean-squared radii and the anomalous magnetic moment compared to the respective experimental values. We show that the axialvector form factor is significantly affected by the finite spatial volume of the lattice. In particular in the axial charge, g_A/g_V, the finite volume effect scales with a single dimensionless quantity, m_pi L, the product of the calculated pion mass and the spatial lattice extent. Our results indicate that for this quantity, m_pi L > 6 is required to ensure that finite volume effects are below 1%.

Bound state spectrum in the finite volume

The signature of bound state formation on the lattice is of particular interest in this talk. In the finite volume, where all states have discrete energies, it is rather hard to distinguish between a bound state and a scattering state if the bound state were close to threshold, i.e., like a "loosely bound state". To study bound states in the finite volume, we calculate the positronium spectroscopy in the Higgs phase of U(1) gauge dynamics, where the photon is massive and then massive photons give rise to the short-ranged interparticle force. We try to identify bound state formation on the basis of the Luscher's finite size method, which suggests specific volume dependences of the energy gap/shift from the threshold energy for either bound states or scattering states.

The parity partner of the nucleon in quenched QCD with domain wall fermions

We present preliminary results for the mass spectrum of the nucleon and its low-lying excited states from quenched lattice QCD using the domain wall fermion method which preserves the chiral symmetry at finite lattice cutoff. Definite mass splitting is observed between the nucleon and its parity partner. This splitting grows with decreasing valence quark mass. We also present preliminary data regarding the first positive-parity excited state.

Chiral Symmetry Breaking in the Dual Ginzburg-Landau Theory

Confinement and chiral symmetry breaking are the most fundamental phenomena in Quark Nuclear Physics, where hadrons and nuclei are described in terms of quarks and gluons. The dual Ginzburg-Landau (DGL) theory, which contains monopole fields as the most essential degrees of freedom and their condensation in the vacuum, is modeled to describe quark confinement in strong connection with QCD. We then demonstrate that the DGL theory is able to describe the spontaneous break down of the chiral symmetry.

Finite Temperature SD Equation for Chiral Symmetry Restoration in Dual Ginzburg-Landau Theory

We study the chiral phase transition at $T\neq 0$ in the dual Ginzburg-Landau theory using the Schwinger-Dyson (SD) equation. In order to solve the SD equation at $T\neq 0$, we provide a new ansatz for the quark self-energy in the imaginary-time formalism. The recovery of the chiral symmetry is found at $T_{_{C}}\sim 100 MeV$ with realistic parameters, which are set by reproducing the values of the string tension $\sqrtσ\simeq 0.44 GeV$ and the chiral condensate $< {\bar q}q > \simeq -(250 MeV}^{3}$ at $T=0$.

Dual Ginzburg-Landau Theory for Quark Confinement and Dynamical Chiral-Symmetry Breaking

Nonperturbative features of QCD are studied using the dual Ginzburg-Landau (DGL) theory with QCD-monopoles. The linear quark potential appears in the QCD-monopole condensed vacuum. We find that QCD-monopole condensation plays an essential role to the dynamical chiral-symmetry breaking. We also investigate the QCD phase transition at finite temperature in the DGL theory.
