Multipactor suppression in dielectric-assist accelerating structures via diamond-like carbon coatings

Multipactor discharges are widely observed in the accelerator field, and their suppression has been studied to improve accelerator performance. A dielectric-assist accelerating (DAA) cavity is a standing-wave accelerating cavity that attains a Q-value of over 100,000 at room temperature by using the reflection of the dielectric layer; the DAA cavity is expected to be used with a small RF power source and high-duty operation. Thus far, the maximum accelerating field of DAA cavities has been limited to a few MV/m by the multipactor. By applying a diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating to reduce the secondary electron emission coefficient without sacrificing the Q-value of the cavity, we have demonstrated that a $6~[{\rm μs}]$ RF pulse can be injected into a DAA cavity with a field of more than 10~[MV/m] while suppressing the multipactor.

THz deflector using dielectric-lined waveguide for ultra-short bunch measurement in GeV scale

We propose an RF deflector in the THz regime to measure the bunch length of the ultrashort electron beam in GeV scale by using the dielectric-lined circular waveguide (DLW) structure. We show the design of the deflector and the possible resolution in the attosecond scale with a reasonable input pulse energy of THz. We investigate the short-range wakefield effect in the DLW to the time resolution using the analytical model based on the eigenmode calculation and show the scaling law in terms of the beam size, the bunch length. We found the ideal resolution of the deflector can reach order ${\cal O}(100)~[{\rm as}]$ with pulse energy of several ${\rm mJ}$ with a negligible wakefield effect. Example calculations are given for a structure with the vacuum hole radius of $0.5,\ 0.4,\ 0.3~[{\rm mm}]$, the dielectric constant of $3.75$, the operating frequency of $0.2,\ 0.4,\ 0.6~[{\rm THz}]$, respectively.

Lepton flavor violating $Z$-boson couplings from non-standard Higgs interactions

The Standard Model predicts that the Higgs boson couples to the fermions in the mass eigenstates. We consider the effects of lepton flavor violating (LFV) $Z$ boson couplings in the case where the Higgs boson has flavor non-diagonal Yukawa interactions with the muon and the tau lepton generated from physics beyond the Standard Model. We list the formulae of the couplings of the effective interactions among the $τ$ lepton, the muon and the $Z$ boson. Using these formulae, we calculate the branching fractions of various leptonic and hadronic LFV $τ$ decays, and the LFV $Z$ boson decay: $Z\to τμ$. Although the $Z$-boson contributions to LFV tau decays cannot be ignored in terms of the counting of operator dimensions or chirality flipptings, it turns out that they are not very significant for $τ\to3μ$ and $τ\toμρ$ decays. We also calculate the branching fractions of the processes, $τ\to μπ$, $τ\to μη^{(\prime)}$ and $τ\toμa_1$, which are dominated by the $Z$-boson exchanges due to the spin and the parity of the hadrons.
