Generalized Hyperbolic Spaces Associated with Arbitrary Quadratic Forms

The Vahlen group gives a way for presenting the hyperbolic space of every dimension of a group acting via Möbius transformations. As Vahlen groups and paravector Vahlen groups are now defined over any field of characteristic different from 2, we establish analogous spaces on which they operate transitively as Möbius transformations, by defining appropriate boundary components that must be added in case the denominator in the Möbius transformation formula vanishes.

A pp-adic Approach to the Weil Representation of Discriminant Forms Arising from Even Lattices

Suppose that MM is an even lattice with dual M∗M^{*} and level NN. Then the group Mp2(Z)Mp_{2}(\mathbb{Z}), which is the unique non-trivial double cover of SL2(Z)SL_{2}(\mathbb{Z}), admits a representation ρMρ_{M}, called the Weil representation, on the space C[M∗/M]\mathbb{C}[M^{*}/M]. The main aim of this paper is to show how the formulae for the ρMρ_{M}-action of a general element of Mp2(Z)Mp_{2}(\mathbb{Z}) can be obtained by a direct evaluation which does not depend on ``external objects'' such as theta functions. We decompose the Weil representation ρMρ_{M} into pp-parts, in which each pp-part can be seen as subspace of the Schwartz functions on the pp-adic vector space MQpM_{\mathbb{Q}_{p}}. Then we consider the Weil representation of Mp2(Qp)Mp_{2}(\mathbb{Q}_{p}) on the space of Schwartz functions on MQpM_{\mathbb{Q}_{p}}, and see that restricting to Mp2(Z)Mp_{2}(\mathbb{Z}) just gives the pp-part of ρMρ_{M} again. The operators attained by the Weil representation are not always those appearing in the formulae from 1964, but are rather their multiples by certain roots of unity. For this, one has to find which pair of elements, lying over a matrix in SL2(Qp)SL_{2}(\mathbb{Q}_{p}), belong to the metaplectic double cover. Some other properties are also investigated.

A Gross--Kohnen--Zagier Type Theorem for Higher-Codimensional Heegner Cycles

We prove that Heegner cycles of codimension m+1 inside Kuga-Sato type varieties of dimension 2m+1 are coefficients of modular forms of weight 3/2+m in the appropriate quotient group. The main technical tool for generating the necessary relations is a Borcherds style theta lift with polynomials. We also show how this lift defines a new singular Shimura-type correspondence from weakly holomorphic modular forms of weight 1/2-m to meromorphic modular forms of weight 2m+2.

On Lattices over Valuation Rings of Arbitrary Rank

We show how several results about p-adic lattices generalize easily to lattices over valuation ring of arbitrary rank having only the Henselian property for quadratic polynomial. If 2 is invertible we obtain the uniqueness of the Jordan decomposition and the Witt Cancelation Theorem. We show that the isomorphism classes of indecomposable rank 2 lattices over such a ring in which 2 is not invertible are characterized by two invariants, provided that the lattices contain a primitive norm divisible by 2 of maximal valuation.

On Spaces Associated with Invariant Divisors on Galois Covers of Riemann Surfaces and Their Applications

Let f:X→Sf:X \to S be a Galois cover of Riemann surfaces, with Galois group GG. In this paper we analyze the GG-invariant divisors on XX, and their associated spaces of meromorphic functions, differentials, and qq-differentials. We generalize the trace formula for non-trivial elements of GG on qq-differentials, as well as the Chevalley--Weil Formula. When GG is Abelian or when the genus of SS is 0 we prove additional results, and we also determine the non-special GG-invariant divisors when both conditions are satisfied.

Thomae formula for Abelian covers of CP1\mathbb{CP}^{1}

Abelian covers of CP1\mathbb{CP}^{1}, with fixed Galois group AA, are classified, as a first step, by a discrete set of parameters. Any such cover XX, of genus g≥1g\geq1 say, carries a finite set of AA-invariant divisors of degree g−1g-1 on XX that produce non-zero theta constants on XX. We show how to define a quotient involving a power of the theta constant on XX that is associated with such a divisor ΔΔ, some polynomial in the branching values, and a fixed determinant on XX that does not depend on ΔΔ, such that the quotient is constant on the moduli space of AA-covers with the given discrete parameters. This generalizes the classical formula of Thomae, as well as all of its known extensions by various authors.

An Algebraic Description of the Exceptional Isogenies to Orthogonal Groups

We show how the exceptional isogenies of classical groups to orthogonal groups of quadratic spaces of dimensions up to 8 over fields of characteristic different from 2 may be obtained by explicit algebraic constructions using the Cartan--Dieudonné Theorem. This gives a unified approach to groups arising from quaternion algebras, bi-quaternion algebras, and matrices over bi-quaternion algebras. The latter seem to yield new isogenies, which are related to triality in the hyperbolic case.
