EVM Mitigation with PAPR and ACLR Constraints in Large-Scale MIMO-OFDM Using TOP-ADMM

Although signal distortion-based peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction is a feasible candidate for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) to meet standard/regulatory requirements, the error vector magnitude (EVM) stemming from the PAPR reduction has a deleterious impact on the performance of high data-rate achieving multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. Moreover, these systems must constrain the adjacent channel leakage ratio (ACLR) to comply with regulatory requirements. Several recent works have investigated the mitigation of the EVM seen at the receivers by capitalizing on the excess spatial dimensions inherent in the large-scale MIMO that assume the availability of perfect channel state information (CSI) with spatially uncorrelated wireless channels. Unfortunately, practical systems operate with erroneous CSI and spatially correlated channels. Additionally, most standards support user-specific/CSI-aware beamformed and cell-specific/non-CSI-aware broadcasting channels. Hence, we formulate a robust EVM mitigation problem under channel uncertainty with nonconvex PAPR and ACLR constraints catering to beamforming/broadcasting. To solve this formidable problem, we develop an efficient scheme using our recently proposed three-operator alternating direction method of multipliers (TOP-ADMM) algorithm and benchmark it against two three-operator algorithms previously presented for machine learning purposes. Numerical results show the efficacy of the proposed algorithm under imperfect CSI and spatially correlated channels.

Neural Networks for Fashion Image Classification and Visual Search

We discuss two potentially challenging problems faced by the ecommerce industry. One relates to the problem faced by sellers while uploading pictures of products on the platform for sale and the consequent manual tagging involved. It gives rise to misclassifications leading to its absence from search results. The other problem concerns with the potential bottleneck in placing orders when a customer may not know the right keywords but has a visual impression of an image. An image based search algorithm can unleash the true potential of ecommerce by enabling customers to click a picture of an object and search for similar products without the need for typing. In this paper, we explore machine learning algorithms which can help us solve both these problems.

Substrate effect and nanoindentation fracture toughness based on pile up and failure

The effect of substrate was studied using nanoindentation on thin films. Soft films on hard substrate showed more pile up than usual which was attributed to the dislocation pile up at the film substrate interface. The effect of tip blunting on the load depth and hardness plots of nanoindentation was shown. The experimental date of variation of Vickers hardness with film thickness and loads were fitted and new parameters were analyzed. The delaminated area was analyzed using geometrical shapes using optical view of the failure region along with the load displacement Indentation fracture using Nanoindentation using Berkovich indenter has been studied. Indentation fracture toughness (KR) was analyzed based on computational programs. The contact mechanics during nanoindentation was studied with parameters related to indenter shape and tip sharpness. Elastic, plastic and total energies were computationally determined. The energy difference was related to shear stress being generated with elastic to plastic transition. Change in the nature of residual stress was related to film thickness.

A Robust Low-Complexity MIMO Detector for Rank 4 LTE/LTE-A Systems

This paper deals with MIMO detection for rank 4 LTE systems. The paper revolves around a previously known detector [1, by Inkyu Lee, TCOM'2010] which we shall refer to as RCSMLD (Reduced-Constellation-Size-Maximum-Likelihood-Detector). However, a direct application of the scheme in [1, by Inkyu Lee, TCOM'2010] to LTE/LTE-A rank 4 test cases results in unsatisfactory performance. The first contribution of the paper is to introduce several modifications that can jointly be applied to the basic RCSMLD scheme which, taken together, result in excellent performance. Our second contribution is the development of a highly efficient hardware structure for RCSMLD that allows for an implementation with very few multiplications.
