Non-equilibrium transport through a Josephson quantum dot

We study the electronic current through a quantum dot coupled to two superconducting leads which is driven by either a voltage $V$ or temperature $ΔT$ bias. Finite biases beyond the linear response regime are considered. The local two-particle interaction $U$ on the dot is treated using an approximation scheme within the functional renormalization group approach set up in Keldysh-Nambu-space with $U$ being the small parameter. For $V>0$ we compare our renormalization group enhanced results for the dc-component of the current to earlier weak coupling approaches such as the Hartree-Fock approximation and second order perturbation theory in $U$. We show that in parameter regimes in which finite bias driven multiple Andreev reflections prevail small $|U|$ approaches become unreliable for interactions of appreciable strength. In the complementary regime the convergence of the current with respect to numerical parameters becomes an issue - but can eventually be achieved - and interaction effects turn out to be smaller then expected based on earlier results. For $ΔT>0$ we find a surprising increase of the current as a function of the superconducting phase difference in the regime which at $T=0$ becomes the $π$ (doublet) phase.

Nonequilibrium functional RG with frequency dependent vertex function: A study of the single impurity Anderson model

We investigate nonequilibrium properties of the single impurity Anderson model by means of the functional renormalization group (fRG) within Keldysh formalism. We present how the level broadening Gamma/2 can be used as flow parameter for the fRG. This choice preserves important aspects of the Fermi liquid behaviour that the model exhibits in case of particle-hole symmetry. An approximation scheme for the Keldysh fRG is developed which accounts for the frequency dependence of the two-particle vertex in a way similar but not equivalent to a recently published approximation to the equilibrium Matsubara fRG. Our method turns out to be a flexible tool for the study of weak to intermediate on-site interactions U <= 3 Gamma. In equilibrium we find excellent agreement with NRG results for the linear conductance at finite gate voltage, magnetic field, and temperature. In nonequilibrium, our results for the current agree well with TD-DMRG. For the nonlinear conductance as function of the bias voltage, we propose reliable results at finite magnetic field and finite temperature. Furthermore, we demonstrate the exponentially small scale of the Kondo temperature to appear in the second order derivative of the self-energy. We show that the approximation is, however, not able to reproduce the scaling of the effective mass at large interactions.

Properties of multi-particle Green and vertex functions within Keldysh formalism

The increasing interest in nonequilibrium effects in condensed matter theory motivates the adaption of diverse equilibrium techniques to Keldysh formalism. For methods based on multi-particle Green or vertex functions this involves a detailed knowledge of the real-time properties of those functions. In this paper, we derive general properties of fermionic and bosonic multi-particle Green and vertex functions for a stationary state described within Keldysh formalism. Special emphasis is put on the analytic properties associated with causality and on a detailed discussion of the Kubo-Martin-Schwinger conditions which characterise thermal equilibrium. Finally we describe how diagrammatic approximations and approximations within the functional renormalisation group approach respect these properties.

Nonequilibrium functional renormalization group for interacting quantum systems

We propose a nonequilibrium version of functional renormalization within the Keldysh formalism by introducing a complex valued flow parameter in the Fermi or Bose functions of each reservoir. Our cutoff scheme provides a unified approach to equilibrium and nonequilibrium situations. We apply it to nonequilibrium transport through an interacting quantum wire coupled to two reservoirs and show that the nonequilibrium occupation induces new power law exponents for the conductance.
