Hardy-Littlewood-type theorems for Fourier transforms in Rd\R^d

We obtain Fourier inequalities in the weighted LpL_p spaces for any 1<p<∞1<p<\infty involving the Hardy-Cesàro and Hardy-Bellman operators. We extend these results to product Hardy spaces for p≤1p\le 1. Moreover, boundedness of the Hardy-Cesàro and Hardy-Bellman operators in various spaces (Lebesgue, Hardy, BMO) is discussed. One of our main tools is an appropriate version of the Hardy-Littlewood-Paley inequality ∥f^∥Lp′,q≲∥f∥Lp,q \|\widehat{f}\|_{L_{p',q}} \lesssim \left\|f\right\|_{L_{p,q}}.

New estimates for the maximal functions and applications

In this paper we study sharp pointwise inequalities for maximal operators. In particular, we strengthen DeVore's inequality for the moduli of smoothness and a logarithmic variant of Bennett--DeVore--Sharpley's inequality for rearrangements. As a consequence, we improve the classical Stein--Zygmund embedding deriving B˙∞d/pLp,∞(Rd)↪BMO(Rd)\dot{B}^{d/p}_\infty L_{p,\infty}(\mathbb{R}^d) \hookrightarrow \text{BMO}(\mathbb{R}^d) for 1<p<∞1 < p < \infty. Moreover, these results are also applied to establish new Fefferman--Stein inequalities, Calderón--Scott type inequalities, and extrapolation estimates. Our approach is based on the limiting interpolation techniques.

Properties of moduli of smoothness in Lp(Rd)L_p(\mathbb{R}^d)

In this paper, we discuss various basic properties of moduli of smoothness of functions from Lp(Rd)L_p(\mathbb{R}^d), 0<p≤∞0<p\le \infty. In particular, complete versions of Jackson-, Marchaud-, and Ulyanov-type inequalities are given for the whole range of pp. Moreover, equivalences between moduli of smoothness and the corresponding KK-functionals and the realization concept are proved.

Doubling condition at the origin for non-negative positive definite functions

We study upper and lower estimates as well as the asymptotic behavior of the sharp constant C=Cn(U,V)C=C_n(U,V) in the doubling-type condition at the origin 1∣V∣∫Vf(x) dx≤C 1∣U∣∫Uf(x) dx, \frac{1}{|V|}\int_{V}f(x)\,dx\le C\,\frac{1}{|U|}\int_{U}f(x)\,dx, where U,V⊂RnU,V\subset \mathbb{R}^{n} are 00-symmetric convex bodies and ff is a non-negative positive definite function.

Wiener's problem for positive definite functions

We study the sharp constant Wn(D)W_{n}(D) in Wiener's inequality for positive definite functions ∫Tn∣f∣2 dx≤Wn(D)∣D∣−1∫D∣f∣2 dx,D⊂Tn. \int_{\mathbb{T}^{n}}|f|^{2}\,dx\le W_{n}(D)|D|^{-1}\int_{D}|f|^{2}\,dx,\quad D\subset \mathbb{T}^{n}. N. Wiener proved that W1([−δ,δ])<∞W_{1}([-δ,δ])<\infty, δ∈(0,1/2)δ\in (0,1/2). E. Hlawka showed that Wn(D)≤2nW_{n}(D)\le 2^{n}, where DD is an origin-symmetric convex body. We sharpen Hlawka's estimates for DD being the ball BnB^{n} and the cube InI^{n}. In particular, we prove that Wn(Bn)≤2(0.401…+o(1))nW_{n}(B^{n})\le 2^{(0.401\ldots +o(1))n}. We also obtain a lower bound of Wn(D)W_{n}(D). Moreover, for a cube D=1qIn D=\frac1q I^{n} with q=3,4,…,q=3,4,\ldots, we obtain that Wn(D)=2nW_{n}(D)=2^{n}. Our proofs are based on the interrelation between Wiener's problem and the problems of Turán and Delsarte.

Pitt's inequalities and uncertainty principle for generalized Fourier transform

We study the two-parameter family of unitary operators Fk,a=exp⁡(iπ2a (2⟨k⟩+d+a−2))exp⁡(iπ2a Δk,a), \mathcal{F}_{k,a}=\exp\Bigl(\frac{iπ}{2a}\,(2\langle k\rangle+{d}+a-2 )\Bigr) \exp\Bigl(\frac{iπ}{2a}\,Δ_{k,a}\Bigr), which are called (k,a)(k,a)-generalized Fourier transforms and defined by the aa-deformed Dunkl harmonic oscillator Δk,a=∣x∣2−aΔk−∣x∣aΔ_{k,a}=|x|^{2-a}Δ_{k}-|x|^{a}, a>0a>0, where ΔkΔ_{k} is the Dunkl Laplacian. Particular cases of such operators are the Fourier and Dunkl transforms. The restriction of Fk,a\mathcal{F}_{k,a} to radial functions is given by the aa-deformed Hankel transform Hλ,aH_{λ,a}. We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for the weighted (Lp,Lq)(L^{p},L^{q}) Pitt inequalities to hold for the aa-deformed Hankel transform. Moreover, we prove two-sided Boas--Sagher type estimates for the general monotone functions. We also prove sharp Pitt's inequality for Fk,a\mathcal{F}_{k,a} transform in L2(Rd)L^{2}(\mathbb{R}^{d}) with the corresponding weights. Finally, we establish the logarithmic uncertainty principle for Fk,a\mathcal{F}_{k,a}.

Nikolskii inequality and Besov, Triebel-Lizorkin, Wiener and Beurling spaces on compact homogeneous manifolds

In this paper we prove Nikolskii's inequality on general compact Lie groups and on compact homogeneous spaces with the constant interpreted in terms of the eigenvalue counting function of the Laplacian on the space, giving the best constant for certain indices, attained on the Dirichlet kernel. Consequently, we establish embedding theorems between Besov spaces on compact homogeneous spaces, as well as embeddings between Besov spaces and Wiener and Beurling spaces. We also analyse Triebel-Lizorkin spaces and ββ-versions of Wiener and Beurling spaces and their embeddings, and interpolation properties of all these spaces.

Reverse Hölder's inequality for spherical harmonics

This paper determines the sharp asymptotic order of the following reverse Hölder inequality for spherical harmonics YnY_n of degree nn on the unit sphere Sd−1\mathbb{S}^{d-1} of Rd\mathbb{R}^d as n→∞n\to \infty: ∥Yn∥Lq(Sd−1)≤Cnα(p,q)∥Yn∥Lp(Sd−1),0<p<q≤∞.\|Y_n\|_{L^q(\mathbb{S}^{d-1})}\leq C n^{α(p,q)}\|Y_n\|_{L^p(\mathbb{S}^{d-1})},\quad 0<p<q\leq \infty. In many cases, these sharp estimates turn out to be significantly better than the corresponding estimates in the Nilkolskii inequality for spherical polynomials. Furthermore, they allow us to improve two recent results on the restriction conjecture and the sharp Pitt inequalities for the Fourier transform on Rd\mathbb{R}^d.

Bernstein inequalities with nondoubling weights

We answer Totik's question on weighted Bernstein's inequalities showing that ∥Tn′∥Lp(ω)≤C(p,ω) n ∥Tn∥Lp(ω),0<p≤∞, \|T_n'\|_{L_p(ω)} \le C(p,ω)\, {n}\,\|T_n\|_{L_p(ω)},\qquad 0<p\le \infty, holds for all trigonometric polynomials TnT_n and certain nondoubling weights ωω. Moreover, we find necessary conditions on ωω for Bernstein's inequality to hold. We also prove weighted Bernstein-Markov, Remez, and Nikolskii inequalities for trigonometric and algebraic polynomials.

Weighted Fractional Bernstein's inequalities and their applications

This paper studies the following weighted, fractional Bernstein inequality for spherical polynomials on $\sph$: \begin{equation}\label{4-1-TD-ab} \|(-Δ_0)^{r/2} f\|_{p,w}\leq C_w n^{r} \|f\|_{p,w}, \ \ \forall f\in Π_n^d, \end{equation} where ΠndΠ_n^d denotes the space of all spherical polynomials of degree at most nn on $\sph$, and (−Δ0)r/2(-Δ_0)^{r/2} is the fractional Laplacian-Beltrami operator on $\sph$. A new class of doubling weights with conditions weaker than the ApA_p is introduced, and used to fully characterize those doubling weights ww on $\sph$ for which the weighted Bernstein inequality \eqref{4-1-TD-ab} holds for some 1≤p≤∞1\leq p\leq \infty and all r>τr>τ. In the unweighted case, it is shown that if 0<p<∞0<p<\infty and r>0r>0 is not an even integer, then \eqref{4-1-TD-ab} with w≡1w\equiv 1 holds if and only if $r>(d-1)(\f 1p-1)$. As applications, we show that any function $f\in L_p(\sph)$ with 0<p<10<p<1 can be approximated by the de la Vallée Poussin means of a Fourier-Laplace series, and establish a sharp Sobolev type Embedding theorem for the weighted Besov spaces with respect to general doubling weights.
