On the Yang-Baxter Poisson algebra in non-ultralocal integrable systems

A common approach to the quantization of integrable models starts with the formal substitution of the Yang-Baxter Poisson algebra with its quantum version. However it is difficult to discern the presence of such an algebra for the so-called non-ultralocal models. The latter includes the class of non-linear sigma models which are most interesting from the point of view of applications. In this work, we investigate the emergence of the Yang-Baxter Poisson algebra in a non-ultralocal system which is related to integrable deformations of the Principal Chiral Field.

Spectrum of the reflection operators in different integrable structures

The reflection operators are the simplest examples of the non-local integrals of motion, which appear in many interesting problems in integrable CFT. For the so-called Fateev, quantum AKNS, paperclip and KdV integrable structures, they are built from the (chiral) reflection S-matrices for the Liouville and cigar CFTs. Here we give the full spectrum of the reflection operators associated with these integrable structures. We also obtained a relation between the reflection S-matrices of the cigar and Liouville CFTs. The results of this work are applicable for the description of the scaling behaviour of the Bethe states in exactly solvable lattice systems and may be of interest to the study of the Generalized Gibbs Ensemble associated with the above mentioned integrable structures.

Vacuum energy of the Bukhvostov-Lipatov model

Bukhvostov and Lipatov have shown that weakly interacting instantons and anti-instantons in the $O(3)$ non-linear sigma model in two dimensions are described by an exactly soluble model containing two coupled Dirac fermions. We propose an exact formula for the vacuum energy of the model for twisted boundary conditions, expressing it through a special solution of the classical sinh-Gordon equation. The formula perfectly matches predictions of the standard renormalized perturbation theory at weak couplings as well as the conformal perturbation theory at short distances. Our results also agree with the Bethe ansatz solution of the model. A complete proof the proposed expression for the vacuum energy based on a combination of the Bethe ansatz techniques and the classical inverse scattering transform method is presented in the second part of this work [40].

Fidelities in the spin-boson model

The spin-boson model (or the dissipative two-state system) is a model for the study of dissipation and decoherence in quantum mechanics. The spin-boson model with Ohmic dissipation is an integrable theory, related to several other integrable systems including the anisotropic Kondo and resonant level models. Here we consider the problem of computing the overlaps between two ground states corresponding to different values of parameters of the Ohmic spin-boson Hamiltonian. We argue that this can be understood as a part of the problem of quantizing the mKdV/sine-Gordon integrable hierarchy. The main objective of this work is to analyze how the Anderson orthogonality affects the Yang-Baxter integrable structure underlying the theory.

Exact overlaps in the Kondo problem

It is well known that the ground states of a Fermi liquid with and without a single Kondo impurity have an overlap which decays as a power law of the system size, expressing the Anderson orthogonality catastrophe. Ground states with two different values of the Kondo couplings have, however, a finite overlap in the thermodynamic limit. This overlap, which plays an important role in quantum quenches for impurity systems, is a universal function of the ratio of the corresponding Kondo temperatures, which is not accessible using perturbation theory nor the Bethe ansatz. Using a strategy based on the integrable structure of the corresponding quantum field theory, we propose an exact formula for this overlap, which we check against extensive density matrix renormalization group calculations.

From Fuchsian differential equations to integrable QFT

We establish an intriguing correspondence between a special set of classical solutions of the modified sinh-Gordon equation (i.e., Hitchin's "self-duality" equations) on a punctured Riemann sphere and a set of stationary states in the finite-volume Hilbert space of the integrable 2D QFT introduced by V.A. Fateev. Potential applications of this correspondence to the problem of non-perturbative quantization of classically integrable non-linear sigma models are briefly discussed. A detailed account of the results announced in this letter is contained in a separate publication arXiv:1310.4390.

Integrable structure of Quantum Field Theory: Classical flat connections versus quantum stationary states

We establish a correspondence between an infinite set of special solutions of the (classical) modified sinh-Gordon equation and a set of stationary states in the finite-volume Hilbert space of the integrable 2D QFT invented by V.A. Fateev. The modified sinh-Gordon equation arise in this case as a zero-curvature condition for a class of multivalued connections of the punctured Riemann sphere, similarly to Hitchin's self-duality equations. The proposed correspondence between the classical and quantum integrable systems provides a powerful tool for deriving functional and integral equations which determine the full spectrum of local integrals of motion for massive QFT in a finite volume. Potential applications of our results to the problem of non-perturbative quantization of classically integrable non-linear sigma models are briefly discussed.

Winding vacuum energies in a deformed O(4) sigma model

We consider the problem of calculating the Casimir energies in the winding sectors of Fateev's SS-model, which is an integrable two-parameter deformation of the O(4) non-linear sigma model in two dimensions. This problem lies beyond the scope of all traditional methods of integrable quantum field theory including the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz and non-linear integral equations. Here we propose a solution based on a remarkable correspondence between classical and quantum integrable systems and express the winding energies in terms of certain solutions of the classical sinh-Gordon equation.

ODE/IM correspondence for the Fateev model

The Fateev model is somewhat special among two-dimensional quantum field theories. For different values of the parameters,it can be reduced to a variety of integrable systems. An incomplete list of the reductions includes O(3) and O(4) non-linear sigma models and their continuous deformations (2D and 3D sausages, anisotropic principal chiral field), the Bukhvostov-Lipatov model, the N=2 supersymmetric sine-Gordon model, as well as the integrable perturbed SU_2(n)\otimes SU_2(p-2)/SU_2(n+p-2) coset CFT. The model possesses a mysterious symmetry structure of the exceptional quantum superalgebras U_q{\hat{\big(D(2|1;α)}}\big). In this work, we propose the ODE/IM correspondence between the Fateev model and a certain generalization of the classical problem of constant mean curvature embedding of a thrice-punctured sphere in AdS_3.

Resistively shunted Josephson junctions: QFT predictions versus MC results

During the last fourteen years several exact results were obtained for the so-called boundary sine-Gordon model. In the case of a conformal bulk this 2D boundary quantum field theory describes the universal scaling behavior of the Caldeira-Leggett model of resistively shunted Josephson junctions. In this work, we use a recently developed Monte Carlo technique to test some of the analytical predictions.
