Dimension estimates for badly approximable affine forms

For given $ε>0$ and $b\in\mathbb{R}^m$, we say that a real $m\times n$ matrix $A$ is $ε$-badly approximable for the target $b$ if $$\liminf_{q\in\mathbb{Z}^n, \|q\|\to\infty} \|q\|^n \langle Aq-b \rangle^m \geq ε,$$ where $\langle \cdot \rangle$ denotes the distance from the nearest integral point. In this article, we obtain upper bounds for the Hausdorff dimensions of the set of $ε$-badly approximable matrices for fixed target $b$ and the set of $ε$-badly approximable targets for fixed matrix $A$. Moreover, we give an equivalent Diophantine condition of $A$ for which the set of $ε$-badly approximable targets for fixed $A$ has full Hausdorff dimension for some $ε>0$. The upper bounds are established by effectivizing entropy rigidity in homogeneous dynamics, which is of independent interest. For the $A$-fixed case, our method also works for the weighted setting where the supremum norms are replaced by certain weighted quasinorms.

Local Limit Theorem in negative curvature

Consider the heat kernel $p(t,x,y)$ on the universal cover $X$ of a Riemannian manifold $M$ of negative curvature. We show the local limit theorem for $p$ : $$\lim_{t \to \infty} t^{3/2}e^{λ_0 t} p(t,x,y)=C(x,y),$$ where $λ_0$ is the bottom of the spectrum of the geometric Laplacian and $C(x,y)$ is a positive function which depends on $x, y \in X$. We also show that the $λ_0$-Martin boundary of $X$ is equal to its topological boundary. The Martin decomposition of $C(x,y)$ gives a family of measures $\{μ^{λ_0}_x \}$ on $\partial \widetilde{M}$. We show that $\{μ^{λ_0}_x \}$ is the unique family minimizing the energy or the Rayleigh quotient of Mohsen. We use the uniform Harnack inequality on the boundary $\partial X$ and the uniform three-mixing of the geodesic flow on the unit tangent bundle $SM$ for suitable Gibbs-Margulis measures.

Integrated multimodal network approach to PET and MRI based on multidimensional persistent homology

Finding the underlying relationships among multiple imaging modalities in a coherent fashion is one of challenging problems in the multimodal analysis. In this study, we propose a novel multimodal network approach based on multidi- mensional persistent homology. In this extension of the previous threshold-free method of persistent homology, we visualize and discriminate the topological change of integrated brain networks by varying not only threshold but also mixing ratios between two different imaging modalities. Moreover, we also pro- pose an integration method for multimodal networks, called one-dimensional projection, with a specific mixing ratio between modalities. We applied the proposed methods to PET and MRI data from 21 autism spectrum disorder (ASD) children and 10 pediatric control subjects. From the results, we found that the brain networks of ASD children and controls differ significantly, with ASD showing asymmetrical changes of connected structures between PET and MRI. The integrated MRI and PET networks showed that ASD children had weaker connections than controls within the visual cortex, between dorsal and ventral parts of the temporal pole, between frontal and parietal regions, and between the left perisylvian and other brain regions. These results provide a multidimensional homological understanding of disease-related PET and MRI networks that discloses the network association with ASD.

Farey map, Diophantine approximation and Bruhat-Tits tree

Based on Broise-Alamichel and Paulin's work on the Gauss map corresponding to the principal convergents, we continue the study of the Gauss map via Farey maps to contain all the intermediate convergents. We define the geometric Farey map, which is given by time-1 map of the geodesic flow. We also define algebraic Farey maps, better suited for arithmetic properties, which produce all the intermediate convergents. Then we obtain the ergodic invariant measures for the Farey maps and the convergent speed.

On the distribution of orbits of geometrically finite hyperbolic groups on the boundary (with appendix by Francois Maucourant)

We investigate the distribution of orbits of a non-elementary discrete hyperbolic group acting on the n-dimensional hyperbolic space and its geometric boundary. In particular, we show that if the group $Γ$ admits a finite Bowen-Margulis-Sullivan measure (for instance, if it is geometrically finite), then every $Γ$-orbit in the hyperbolic space is equidistributed with respect to the Patterson-Sullivan measure supported on the limit set of $Γ$.The appendix by Maucourant is the extension of a part of his thesis where he obtains the same result as a simple application of Roblin's theorem. Our approach is via establishing the equidistribution of solvable flows on the unit tangent bundle of the quotient manifold, which is of independent interest.
