LiSK - A C++ Library for Evaluating Classical Polylogarithms and $\text{Li}_{22}$

I present a lightweight C++ library for the evaluation of classical polylogarithms Li_n and the special function Li_{22} for arbitrary complex arguments. The evaluation is possible in arbitrary precision arithmetic and features also an explicit double precision implementation for a much faster numerical evaluation. The implementation is based on arXiv:1601.02649.

Two loop correction to interference in $gg \to ZZ$

We present results for the production of a pair of on-shell Z bosons via gluon fusion. This process occurs both through the production and decay of the Higgs boson, and through continuum production where the Z boson couples to a loop of massless quarks or to a massive quark. We calculate the interference of the two processes and its contribution to the cross section up to and including order O(alpha_s^3). The two-loop contributions to the amplitude are all known analytically, except for the continuum production through loops of top quarks of mass m. The latter contribution is important for the invariant mass of the two Z bosons, (as measured by the mass of their leptonic decay products, m_4l), in a regime where m_4l > 2m because of the contributions of longitudinal bosons. We examine all the contributions to the virtual amplitude involving top quarks, as expansions about the heavy top quark limit. Comparison with the analytic results, where known, allows us to assess the validity of the heavy quark expansion, and it extensions. We give results for the NLO corrections to this interference, including both real and virtual radiation.

Prospects of constraining the Higgs CP nature in the tau decay channel at the LHC

We investigate how precisely the CP nature of the 125 GeV Higgs boson, parametrized by a scalar-pseudoscalar Higgs mixing angle, can be determined in Higgs-to-tau-pair decay with subsequent tau-lepton decays to charged prongs at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We combine two methods in order to define an observable which is sensitive to this scalar-pseudoscalar mixing angle: We use the rho-decay plane method for tau-to-rho decays and the impact parameter method for all other major tau decays. For estimating the precision with which the mixing angle can be measured at the LHC (13 TeV) we take into account the background from Drell-Yan production and perform a Monte Carlo simulation of measurement uncertainties on the signal and background distributions. We obtain that the mixing angle can be determined with an uncertainty of 15 degree (9 degree) at the LHC with an integrated luminosity of 150 inverse fb (500 inverse fb), and with ~4 degree with 3 inverse ab. Future measurements of the scalar-pseudoscalar mixing angle yield direct information on whether or not there is an extended Higgs-boson sector with Higgs-sector CP violation. We analyze this in the context of a number of two-Higgs-doublet extensions of the Standard Model, namely the so-called aligned model and conventional two-Higgs-doublet extensions with tree-level neutral flavor conservation.

Determination of the Higgs CP mixing angle in the tau decay channels at the LHC including the Drell-Yan background

We investigate how precisely the CP nature of the 125 GeV Higgs boson resonance h can be unraveled at the LHC in its decays to tau pairs. We use a method which allows to determine the scalar-pseudoscalar Higgs mixing angle in this decay mode. This mixing angle can be extracted from the distribution of a signed angle, which we analyze for the major charged-prong tau decays. For definiteness, we consider Higgs-boson production by gluon fusion at NLO QCD. We take into account also the irreducible background from Drell-Yan production at NLO QCD. We compute, for the signal and background reactions, angular and energy correlations of the charged prongs and analyze which type of cuts suppress the Drell-Yan background. An important feature of this background is that its contribution to the distribution of our observable is a flat line, also at NLO QCD. By separating the Drell-Yan events into two different sets, two different non-trivial distributions are obtained. Based on this observation we propose to use these sets for calibation purposes. By Monte Carlo simulation we study also the effect of measurement uncertainties on this distribution. We estimate that the Higgs mixing angle can be determined with our method to a precision of 14 degree (5 degree) at the high luminosity LHC (14 TeV) with an integrated luminosity of 500 inverse fb (3 inverse ab).

Determination of the Higgs CP-mixing angle in the tau decay channels

The measurement of possible Higgs sector CP-violation in the tau decay channels at the LHC is investigated. A CP-violating effect would manifest itself in these decay modes in characteristic spin-spin correlations of the tau lepton pairs which can be accessed using the momenta and impact parameters of the charged tau decay particles. We examine a CP-sensitive observable for a 125 GeV Higgs boson resonance in the gluon fusion channel at the LHC. Furthermore, we consider the distribution of this observable for the irreducible Drell-Yan background. By splitting these events into two categories we obtain two different distributions which can be used for calibration purposes. Finally, we estimate the achievable precision of the scalar-pseudo-scalar mixing angle of the tau decay channel for Run II and the high luminosity run of the LHC.
