NNLO constraints on proton PDFs from the SeaQuest and STAR experiments and other developments in the CTEQ-TEA global analysis

We review progress in the global QCD analysis by the CTEQ-TEA group since the publication of CT18 parton distribution functions (PDFs) in the proton. Specifically, we discuss comparisons of CT18 NNLO predictions with the LHC 13 TeV measurements as well as with the FNAL SeaQuest and BNL STAR data on lepton pair production. The specialized CT18X PDFs approximating saturation effects are compared with the CT18sx PDFs obtained using NLL/NLO small-$x$ resummation. Short summaries are presented for the special CT18 parton distributions with fitted charm and with lattice QCD inputs. A recent comparative analysis of the impact of deuteron nuclear effects on the parton distributions by the CTEQ-JLab and CTEQ-TEA groups is summarized.

Impact of LHCb 13 TeV $W$ and $Z$ pseudo-data on the Parton Distribution Functions

We study the potential of the LHCb 13 TeV single $W^{\pm}$ and $Z$ boson pseudo-data for constraining the parton distribution functions (PDFs) of the proton. As an example, we demonstrate the sensitivity of the LHCb 13 TeV data, collected with integrated luminosities of 5 fb$^{-1}$ and 300 fb$^{-1}$, to reducing the PDF uncertainty bands of the CT14HERA2 PDFs, using the error PDF updating package {\sc ePump}. The sensitivities of various experimental observables are compared. Generally, sizable reductions in PDF uncertainties can be observed in the 300 fb$^{-1}$ data sample, particularly in the small-$x$ region. The double-differential cross section measurement of $Z$ boson $p_T$ and rapidity can greatly reduce the uncertainty bands of $u$ and $d$ quarks in almost the whole $x$ range, as compared to various single observable measurements.

Pair production in asymmetric Sauter potential well

Electron-positron pair production in asymmetric Sauter potential well is studied, where the potential well has been built as the width of the right edge fixed but the left side of the well is changeable at different values. We study the momentum spectrum, the location distribution and the total pair numbers in this case of asymmetric potential well and compare them with the symmetric case. The relationship between created electron energy, the level energy in the bound states and the photon energy in the symmetric potential well is used to the studied problem for the created electrons in the asymmetric potential well and its validity is confirmed by this approximation. By the location distribution of the electrons we have also shown the reason why the momentum spectrum has an optimization in the asymmetric well compared with the symmetric one.

New CTEQ global analysis of quantum chromodynamics with high-precision data from the LHC

We present the new parton distribution functions (PDFs) from the CTEQ-TEA collaboration, obtained using a wide variety of high-precision Large Hadron Collider (LHC) data, in addition to the combined HERA I+II deep-inelastic scattering data set, along with the data sets present in the CT14 global QCD analysis. New LHC measurements in single-inclusive jet production with the full rapidity coverage, as well as production of Drell-Yan pairs, top-quark pairs, and high-$p_T$ $Z$ bosons, are included to achieve the greatest sensitivity to the PDFs. The parton distributions are determined at NLO and NNLO, with each of these PDFs accompanied by error sets determined using the Hessian method. Fast PDF survey techniques, based on the Hessian representation and the Lagrange Multiplier method, are used to quantify the preference of each data set to quantities such as $α_s(m_Z)$, and the gluon and strange quark distributions. We designate the main resulting PDF set as CT18. The ATLAS 7 TeV precision $W/Z$ data are not included in CT18, due to their tension with other data sets in the global fit. Alternate PDF sets are generated including the ATLAS precision 7 TeV $W/Z$ data (CT18A), a new scale choice for low-$x$ DIS data (CT18X), or all of the above with a slightly higher choice for the charm mass (CT18Z). Theoretical calculations of standard candle cross sections at the LHC (such as the $gg$ fusion Higgs boson cross section) are presented.

New parton distribution functions from a global analysis of quantum chromodynamics

We present new parton distribution functions (PDFs) up to next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) from the CTEQ-TEA global analysis of quantum chromodynamics. These differ from previous CT PDFs in several respects, including the use of data from LHC experiments and the new D0 charged lepton rapidity asymmetry data, as well as the use of more flexible parametrization of PDFs that, in particular, allows a better fit to different combinations of quark flavors. Predictions for important LHC processes, especially Higgs boson production at 13 TeV, are presented. These CT14 PDFs include a central set and error sets in the Hessian representation. For completeness, we also present the CT14 PDFs determined at the leading order (LO) and the next-to-leading order (NLO) in QCD. Besides these general-purpose PDF sets, we provide a series of (N)NLO sets with various $α_s$ values and additional sets in general-mass variable flavor number (GM-VFN) schemes, to deal with heavy partons, with up to 3, 4, and 6 active flavors.

Higgs Boson Cross Section from CTEQ-TEA Global Analysis

We study the uncertainties of the Higgs boson production cross section through the gluon fusion subprocess at the LHC (with $\sqrt s=7, 8$ and $14$ TeV) arising from the uncertainties of the parton distribution functions (PDFs) and of the value of the strong coupling constant $α_s(M_Z)$. These uncertainties are computed by two complementary approaches, based on the Hessian and the Lagrange Multiplier methods within the CTEQ-TEA global analysis framework. We find that their predictions for the Higgs boson cross section are in good agreement. Furthermore, the result of the Lagrange Multiplier method supports the prescriptions we have previously provided for using the Hessian method to calculate the combined PDF and $α_s$ uncertainties, and to estimate the uncertainties at the $68\%$ confidence level by scaling them from the $90\%$ confidence level.

Intrinsic Charm Parton Distribution Functions from CTEQ-TEA Global Analysis

We study the possibility of intrinsic (non-perturbative) charm in parton distribution functions (PDF) of the proton, within the context of the CT10 next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) global analysis. Three models for the intrinsic charm (IC) quark content are compared: (i) $\hat{c}(x) = 0$ (zero-IC model); (ii) $\hat{c}(x)$ is parametrized by a valence-like parton distribution (BHPS model); (iii) $\hat{c}(x)$ is parametrized by a sea-like parton distribution (SEA model). In these models, the intrinsic charm content, $\hat{c}(x)$, is included in the charm PDF at the matching scale $Q_c=m_c=1.3$ GeV. The best fits to data are constructed and compared. Correlations between the value of $m_c$ and the amount of IC are also considered.

$π^+π^+$ and $π^+π^-$ colliding in noncommutative space

By studying the scattering process of scalar particle pion on the noncommutative scalar quantum electrodynamics, the non-commutative amendment of differential scattering cross-section is found, which is dependent of polar-angle and the results are significantly different from that in the commutative scalar quantum electrodynamics, particularly when $\cosθ\sim \pm 1$. The non-commutativity of space is expected to be explored at around $Λ_{NC}\sim$TeV.

Relativistic Hydrogen-Like Atom on a Noncommutative Phase Space

The energy levels of hydrogen-like atom on a noncommutative phase space were studied in the framework of relativistic quantum mechanics. The leading order corrections to energy levels 2S_{1/2}, 2P_{1/2} and 2P_{3/2} were obtained by using the θand the \barθmodified Dirac Hamiltonian of hydrogen-like atom on a noncommutative phase space. The degeneracy of the energy levels 2P_{1/2} and 2P_{3/2} were removed completely by θ-correction. And the \barθ-correction shifts these energy levels.

The Aharonov-Casher and scalar Aharonov-Bohm topological effects

We reexamine the topological and nonlocal natures of the Aharonov-Casher and scalar Aharonov-Bohm phase effects. The underlying U(1) gauge structure is exhibited explicitly. And the conditions for developing topological Aharonov-Casher and scalar Aharonov-Bohm phases are clarified. We analyse the arguments of M. Peshkin and H. J. Lipkin (Phys. Rev. Lett. 74, 2847(1995)) in detail and show that they are based on the wrong Hamiltonian which yields their conclusion incorrect.

Proposal and theoretical formalism for studying baryon radiative decays from J/ψ\to B^*\bar B + \bar{B^*}B \to γB\bar B

With accumulation of high statistics data at BESIII, one may study many new interesting channels. Among them, J/ψ\to B^*\bar B + \bar{B^*}B \to γB\bar B processes may provide valuable information of the radiative decays of the excited baryons (N^*,Λ^*,Σ^*,Ξ^*), and may shed light on their internal quark-gluon structure. Our estimation for the branching ratios of the nucleon excitations N^*(1440), N^*(1535) and N^*(1520) from the reaction J/ψ\to N^*\bar p + \bar N^* p \to γp\bar p, indicates that these processes can be studied at BESIII with 10^{10} J/ψevents. Explicit theoretical formulae for the partial wave analysis (PWA) of the J/ψ\to B^*\bar B +\bar B^* B with B^*\to B γand \bar B^*\to \bar Bγwithin covariant L-S Scheme are provided.

Spin Hall effect on a noncommutative space

We study the spin-orbital interaction and the spin Hall effect(SHE) of an electron moving on a noncommutative space under the influence of a vector potential A. On a noncommutative space we find that the commutator between the vector potential A and the electric potential V_1(r) of lattice induces a new term which can be treated as an effective electric field, and the spin-Hall conductivity obtains some correction. In addition, the spin current as well as spin-Hall conductivity have distinct values in different direction. On a noncommutative space we derive the spin-depended electric current whose expectation value gives the spin Hall effect and spin Hall conductivity. We have defined a new parameter ς=ρθ(ρis electron concentration, θis noncommutative parameter) which can be measured experimentally. Our approach is based on the Foldy-Wouthuysen transformation which give a general Hamiltonian of a non-relativistic electron moving on a noncommutative space.

Landau Problem in Noncommutative Quantum Mechanics

The Landau problem in non-commutative quantum mechanics (NCQM) is studied. First by solving the Schr$\ddot{o}$dinger equations on noncommutative(NC) space we obtain the Landau energy levels and the energy correction that is caused by space-space noncommutativity. Then we discuss the noncommutative phase space case, namely, space-space and momentum-momentum non-commutative case, and we get the explicit expression of the Hamiltonian as well as the corresponding eigenfunctions and eigenvalues.

Covariant tensor formalism for partial wave analyses of $ψ$ decays into $γB\bar B$, $γγV$ and $ψ(2S)\toγχ_{c0,1,2}$ with $χ_{c0,1,2}\to K\bar K π^+π^- $ and $2π^+2π^-$

With accumulation of high statistics data at BES and CLEO-c, many new interesting channels can get enough statistics for partial wave analysis (PWA). Among them, $ψ\to γp\bar p, γΛ\bar Λ, γΣ\barΣ, γΞ\bar Ξ$ channels provide a good place for studying baryon-antibaryon interactions; the double radiative decays $ψ\toγγV$ with $V\equiv ρ,ω,ϕ$ have a potential to provide information on the flavor content of any meson resonances (R) with positive charge parity ($C=+$) and mass above 1 GeV through $ψ\toγR \toγγV$; $ψ(2S)\toγχ_{c0,1,2}$ with $χ_{c0,1,2}\to K\bar K π^+π^- $ and $2π^+2π^-$ decays are good processes to study $χ_{cJ}$ charmonium decays. Using the covariant tensor formalism, here we provide theoretical PWA formulae for these channels.
