Role of Disorder in Governing the Magnetic Properties of Cu2IrO3

Cu$_2$IrO$_3$ is a honeycomb iridate which has been studied recently as a candidate Kitaev quantum spin liquid. Its magnetic ground state however, has been reported to be quantum disordered, spin glassy, or magnetically ordered depending on synthesis details. We have prepared a Cu$_2$IrO$_3$ sample with large antisite disorder and studied in detail its structure (global and local), charge states, and thermodynamic properties to try to quantify and characterize the disorder and its connection to the magnetic ground state. X-ray diffraction, Extended x-ray absorption fine structure(EXAFS) and X-ray pair distribution function analysis revealed a large site disorder ($\sim$25\%), while XPS and XANES reveal mixed valence of Cu and Ir following Cu$^{1+}$ + Ir$^{4+}$ $\rightarrow$ Cu$^{2+}$ + Ir$^{3+}$. This combination of site disorder and charge redistribution generates competing antiferromagnetic interactions and magnetic frustration, resulting in dynamically fluctuating AFM clusters near 80K that freeze below 29K. These results demonstrate the crucial role of synthesis dependent disorder in determining the magnetic ground state of Cu$_2$IrO$_3$.

Anti-site disorder and Berry curvature driven anomalous Hall effect in spin gapless semiconducting Mn2CoAl Heusler compound

Spin gapless semiconductors exhibit a finite band gap for one spin channel and closed gap for other spin channel, emerged as a new state of magnetic materials with a great potential for spintronic applications. The first experimental evidence for the spin gapless semiconducting behavior was observed in an inverse Heusler compound Mn2CoAl. Here, we report a detailed investigation of the crystal structure and anomalous Hall effect in the Mn2CoAl using experimental and theoretical studies. The analysis of the high-resolution synchrotron x-ray diffraction data shows anti-site disorder between Mn and Al atoms within the inverse Heusler structure. The temperature-dependent resistivity shows semiconducting behavior and follows Mooijs criteria for disordered metal. Scaling behavior of the anomalous Hall resistivity suggests that the anomalous Hall effect in the Mn2CoAl is primarily governed by intrinsic mechanism due to the Berry curvature in momentum space. The experimental intrinsic anomalous Hall conductivity (AHC) is found to be 35 S/cm, which is considerably larger than the theoretically predicted value for ordered Mn2CoAl. Our first-principle calculations conclude that the anti-site disorder between Mn and Al atoms enhances the Berry curvature and hence the value of intrinsic AHC, which is in a very well agreement with the experiment.

Atomic disorder and Berry phase driven anomalous Hall effect in Co2FeAl Heusler compound

Co2-based Heusler compounds are the promising materials for the spintronics application due to their high Curie temperature, large spin-polarization, large magnetization density, and exotic transport properties. In the present manuscript, we report the anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in a polycrystalline Co2FeAl Heusler compound using combined experimental and theoretical studies. The Rietveld analysis of high-resolution synchrotron x-ray diffraction data reveals a large degree (~50 %) of antisite disorder between Fe and Al atoms. The analysis of anomalous transport data provides the experimental anomalous Hall conductivity (AHC) about 227 S/cm at 2 K with an intrinsic contribution of 155 S/cm, which has nearly constant variation with temperature. The detailed scaling analysis of anomalous Hall resistivity suggests that the AHE in Co2FeAl is governed by the Berry phase driven intrinsic mechanism. Our theoretical calculations reveal that the disorder present in Co2FeAl compound enhances the Berry curvature induced intrinsic AHC.

Band splitting induced Berry flux and intrinsic anomalous Hall conductivity in NiCoMnGa quaternary Heusler compound

The anomalous transport properties of Heusler compounds become a hotspot of research in recent years due to their unique band structure and possible application in spintronics. In this paper, we report the anomalous Hall effect in polycrystalline NiCoMnGa quaternary Heusler compound by experimental means and theoretical calculations. The experimental anomalous Hall conductivity (AHC) was found at about 256 S/cm at 10K with an intrinsic contribution of ~ 121 S/cm. The analysis of Hall data reveals the presence of both extrinsic and intrinsic contributions in AHE. Our theoretical calculations show that a pair of spin-orbit coupled band formed by the band splitting due to spin-orbit interaction (SOI) at the Fermi level produces a finite Berry flux in the system that provides the intrinsic AHC about 100 S/cm, which is in good agreement with the experiment.

ParaColorizer: Realistic Image Colorization using Parallel Generative Networks

Grayscale image colorization is a fascinating application of AI for information restoration. The inherently ill-posed nature of the problem makes it even more challenging since the outputs could be multi-modal. The learning-based methods currently in use produce acceptable results for straightforward cases but usually fail to restore the contextual information in the absence of clear figure-ground separation. Also, the images suffer from color bleeding and desaturated backgrounds since a single model trained on full image features is insufficient for learning the diverse data modes. To address these issues, we present a parallel GAN-based colorization framework. In our approach, each separately tailored GAN pipeline colorizes the foreground (using object-level features) or the background (using full-image features). The foreground pipeline employs a Residual-UNet with self-attention as its generator trained using the full-image features and the corresponding object-level features from the COCO dataset. The background pipeline relies on full-image features and additional training examples from the Places dataset. We design a DenseFuse-based fusion network to obtain the final colorized image by feature-based fusion of the parallelly generated outputs. We show the shortcomings of the non-perceptual evaluation metrics commonly used to assess multi-modal problems like image colorization and perform extensive performance evaluation of our framework using multiple perceptual metrics. Our approach outperforms most of the existing learning-based methods and produces results comparable to the state-of-the-art. Further, we performed a runtime analysis and obtained an average inference time of 24ms per image.

Pressure induced isostructural phase transition in biskyrmion host hexagonal MnNiGa

Magnetic skyrmions are vortex-like spin textures, which can be manipulated by external stress or pressure via magnetoelastic effects. Here, we present the observation of isostructural phase transition in a biskyrmion host hexagonal MnNiGa at a pressure around 4 GPa using pressure-dependent synchrotron x-ray powder diffraction (XRD) data analysis. Our XRD data reveals anisotropic compression behavior with pressure with different compression rates of the a-axis in the basal plane and the c-axis in the prismatic plane. However, the hexagonal symmetry remains unchanged for pressure up to 14 GPa. Fitting of unit cell volume with pressure using a second-order Birch-Murnagan equation of state reveals that the data to fall into two distinct curves for those above and below 4 GPa. The present study contributes to the understanding of crystal structure with the application of hydrostatic pressure in the biskyrmion host MnNiGa, wherein the skyrmion textures can be manipulated by pressure due to their magnetoelastic character.

Role of chemical disorder in tuning the Weyl points in vanadium doped Co$_2$TiSn

The lack of time-reversal symmetry and Weyl fermions give exotic transport properties to Co-based Heusler alloys. In the present study, we have investigated the role of chemical disorder on the variation of Weyl points in Co\textsubscript{2}Ti\textsubscript{1-x}V\textsubscript{x}Sn magnetic Weyl semimetal candidate. We employ the first principle approach to track the evolution of the nodal lines responsible for the appearance of Weyl node in Co$_2$TiSn as a function of V substitution in place of Ti. By increasing the V concentration in place of Ti, the nodal line moves toward Fermi level and remains at Fermi level around the middle composition. Further increase of the V content, leads shifting of nodal line away from Fermi level. Density of state calculation shows half-metallic behavior for the entire range of composition. The magnetic moment on each Co atom as a function of V concentration increases linearly up to x=0.4, and after that, it starts decreasing. We also investigated the evolution of the Weyl nodes and Fermi arcs with chemical doping. The first-principles calculations reveal that via replacing almost half of the Ti with V, the intrinsic anomalous Hall conductivity increased twice as compared to the undoped composition. Our results indicate that the composition close to the 50\% V doped Co$_2$TiSn, will be an ideal composition for the experimental investigation of Weyl physics.

Thermoelectric properties of Fe$_{2}$VAl at high temperature region: A combined experimental and theoretical study

Heusler type compounds have long been recognized as potential thermoelectric (TE) materials. Here, the experimentally observed TE properties of Fe$_{2}$VAl are understood through electronic structure calculations in the temperature range of $300-800$ K. The observed value of $S$ is $\sim-$138 $μ$V/K at 300 K. Then, the $|S|$ decreases with increase in temperature up to the highest temperature with the value of $\sim-$18 $μ$V/K at 800 K. The negative sign of $S$ in the full temperature window signifies the dominating $n$-type character of the compound. The temperature dependent of electrical conductivity, $σ$ (thermal conductivity, $κ$) exhibits the increasing (decreasing) trend with the values of $\sim$1.2 $\times$ 10$^{5}$ $Ω^{-1}$m$^{-1}$ ($\sim$23.7 W/m-K) and $\sim$2.2 $\times$ 10$^{5}$ $Ω^{-1}$m$^{-1}$ ($\sim$15.3 W/m-K) at 300 K and 800 K, respectively. In order to understand these transport properties, the DFT based semi-classical Boltzmann theory is used. The contributions of multi-band electron and hole pockets are found to be mainly responsible for the temperature dependent trend of these properties. The decrement of $|S|$ and increment of $σ/τ$ $\&$ $κ_{e}/τ$ ($τ$ is relaxation time) with temperature is directly related with the contribution of multiple hole pockets. Present study suggests that DFT based electronic calculations provide reasonably good explanations of experimental TE properties of Fe$_{2}$VAl in the high temperature range of $300-800$ K.

Anomalous Hall effect in Weyl semimetal half Heusler compounds RPtBi (R = Gd and Nd)

Topological materials ranging from topological insulators to Weyl and Dirac semimetals form one of the most exciting current fields in condensed-matter research. Many half-Heusler compounds, RPtBi (R= rare earth) have been theoretically predicted to be topological semimetals. Among various topological attributes envisaged in RPtBi, topological surface states, chiral anomaly and planar Hall effect have been observed experimentally. Here, we report on an unusual intrinsic anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in the antiferromagnetic Heusler Weyl semimetal compounds GdPtBi and NdPtBi that is observed over a wide temperature range. In particular, GdPtBi exhibits an anomalous Hall conductivity of up to 60 ohm-1cm-1 and an anomalous Hall angle as large as 23%. Muon spin resonance (mu-SR) studies of GdPtBi indicate a sharp antiferromagnetic transition (T_N) at 9 K without any noticeable magnetic correlations above T_N. Our studies indicate that Weyl points in these half-Heuslers are induced by a magnetic field via exchange-splitting of the electronic bands at or near to the Fermi energy which is the source of the chiral anomaly and the AHE.

Compressive sensing based privacy for fall detection

Fall detection holds immense importance in the field of healthcare, where timely detection allows for instant medical assistance. In this context, we propose a 3D ConvNet architecture which consists of 3D Inception modules for fall detection. The proposed architecture is a custom version of Inflated 3D (I3D) architecture, that takes compressed measurements of video sequence as spatio-temporal input, obtained from compressive sensing framework, rather than video sequence as input, as in the case of I3D convolutional neural network. This is adopted since privacy raises a huge concern for patients being monitored through these RGB cameras. The proposed framework for fall detection is flexible enough with respect to a wide variety of measurement matrices. Ten action classes randomly selected from Kinetics-400 with no fall examples, are employed to train our 3D ConvNet post compressive sensing with different types of sensing matrices on the original video clips. Our results show that 3D ConvNet performance remains unchanged with different sensing matrices. Also, the performance obtained with Kinetics pre-trained 3D ConvNet on compressively sensed fall videos from benchmark datasets is better than the state-of-the-art techniques.

Effect of chemical and hydrostatic pressure on the coupled magnetostructural transition of Ni-Mn-In Heusler alloys

Ni-Mn-In magnetic shape-memory Heusler alloys exhibit generally a large thermal hysteresis at their first-order martensitic phase transition which hinder a technological application in magnetic refrigeration. By optimizing the Cu content in Ni$_2$Cu$_x$Mn$_{1.4-x}$In$_{0.6}$, we obtained a thermal hysteresis of the martensitic phase transition in Ni$_{2}$Cu$_{0.2}$Mn$_{1.2}$In$_{0.6}$ of only 6 K. We can explain this very small hysteresis by an almost perfect habit plane at the interface of martensite and austenite phases. Application of hydrostatic pressure does not reduce the hysteresis further, but shifts the martensitic transition close to room temperature. The isothermal entropy change does not depend on warming or cooling protocols and is pressure independent. Experiments in pulsed-magnetic fields on Ni$_{2}$Cu$_{0.2}$Mn$_{1.2}$In$_{0.6}$ find a reversible magnetocaloric effect with a maximum adiabatic temperature change of -13 K.

Improved crystallographic compatibility and magnetocaloric reversibility in Pt substituted Ni2Mn1.4In0.6 magnetic shape memory Heusler alloy

We present here the improved crystallographic/geometric compatibility and magnetocaloric reversibility by measurement of magnetic entropy change using different protocols in 10% Pt substituted Ni2Mn1.4In0.6 magnetic shape memory alloy. The substitution of Pt reduces the thermal hysteresis about 50% to the Ni2Mn1.4In0.6. The origin of the reduced thermal hysteresis is investigated by the crystallographic compatibility of the austenite and martensite phases. The calculated middle eigenvalue of the transformation matrix turned out to be 0.9982, which is very close to 1 (deviation is only 0.18%) suggests for the crystallographic compatibility between the austenite and martensite phases in Ni1.9Pt0.1Mn1.4In0.6. A very small thermal hysteresis and crystallographic compatibility between two phases in this alloy system indicate a stress-free transition layer (i.e. perfect habit plane) between the austenite and martensite phase, which is expected to give reversible martensite phase transition and therefore reversible magnetocaloric effect (MCE) as well. The calculated value of the isothermal entropy change (ΔSiso) using the magnetization curve under three different measurement protocols (i.e. isothermal, loop, and isofield measurement protocol) is found to be nearly same indicating a reversible MCE in the present alloy system. Our work provides a path to design new magnetic shape memory Heusler alloys for magnetic refrigeration and also suggest that any of the above measurement protocol can be used for the calculation of ΔSiso for materials satisfying geometrical compatibility condition.

Improved magnetostructural and magnetocaloric reversibility in magnetic Ni-Mn-In shape-memory Heusler alloy by optimizing the geometric compatibility condition

We report an improved reversibility of magnetostriction and inverse magnetocaloric effect (MCE) for the magnetic shape-memory Heusler alloy Ni$_{1.8}$Mn$_{1.8}$In$_{0.4}$. We show that the magnetostriction and MCE crucially depends on the geometrical compatibility of the austenite and martensite phases. Detailed information on the compatibility of both phases has been obtained from the transformation matrix calculated from x-ray diffraction data. The uniqueness of the lattice parameters results in an improved reversibility of the magnetostriction and the MCE. In the thermal hysteresis region of the martensitic transformation, the maximum relative length change is 0.3% and the adiabatic temperature change $ΔT_{ad}\approx -10$ K in pulsed magnetic fields. Our results reveal that the approach of geometric compatibility will allow one to design materials with reversible magnetostriction and reversible inverse MCE at a first-order magnetostructural phase transition in shape-memory Heusler alloys.

Pressure tuning of the anomalous Hall effect in the chiral antiferromagnet Mn3Ge

We report on the pressure evolution of the giant anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in the chiral antiferromagnet Mn$_3$Ge. The AHE originating from the non-vanishing Berry curvature in Mn$_3$Ge can be continuously tuned by application of hydrostatic pressure. At room temperature, the Hall signal changes sign as a function of pressure and vanishes completely at $p=1.53$ GPa. Even though the Hall conductivity changes sign upon increasing pressure, the room-temperature saturation value of 23 ${\rm Ω^{-1}cm^{-1}}$ at 2.85 GPa is remarkably high and comparable to the saturation value at ambient pressure of about 40 ${\rm Ω^{-1}cm^{-1}}$. The change in the Hall conductivity can be directly linked to a gradual change of the size of the in-plane components of the Mn moments in the non-collinear triangular magnetic structure. Our findings, therefore, provide a route for tuning of the AHE in the chiral antiferromagnetic Mn$_3$Ge.

Reversible adiabatic temperature change in the shape memory Heusler alloy Ni2.2Mn0.8Ga: An effect of structural compatibility

The large magnetocaloric effect (MCE) observed in Ni-Mn based shape-memory Heusler alloys put them forward to use in magnetic refrigeration technology. It is associated with a first-order magnetostructural (martensitic) phase transition. We conducted a comprehensive study of the MCE for the off-stoichiometric Heusler alloy Ni$_{2.2}$Mn$_{0.8}$Ga in the vicinity of its first-order magnetostructural phase transition. We found a reversible MCE under repeated magnetic field cycles. The reversible behavior can be attributed to the small thermal hysteresis of the martensitic phase transition. Based on the analysis of our detailed temperature dependent X-ray diffraction data, we demonstrate the geometric compatibility of the cubic austenite and tetragonal martensite phases. This finding directly relates the reversible MCE behavior to an improved geometric compatibility condition between cubic austenite and tetragonal martensite phases. The approach will help to design shape-memory Heusler alloys with a large reversible MCE taking advantage of the first-order martensitic phase transition.

Temperature dependence of the anomalous Nernst effect in Ni$_{2}$MnGa shape memory alloy

We report a detailed investigation of the Ni$_{2}$MnGa shape memory alloy through magnetic, electronic, and thermal measurements. Our measurements of the anomalous Nernst effect (ANE) reveal that this technique is very sensitive to the onset of the pre-martensitic transition in sharp contrast to other transport measurements. With the ANE being sensitive to changes at the Fermi surface, we infer on the link between the structural modulations and the modulation of the Fermi surface via its nesting features, with the magnetic field induced strain being the mediating mechanism.

Simultaneous Eulerian-Lagrangian velocity measurements of particulate pipe flow in transitional regime

We present a unique pipe flow rig capable where simultaneous particle tracking and flow velocity measurements in a dilute, neutrally buoyant particulate pipe flow in regimes of transition to turbulence. The flow consists of solid glass spheres for the disperse phase, and a density-matching fluid for the carrier phase. The measurements are conducted using a bespoke, combined 2D PIV/ PTV technique. The technique takes advantage of a phase discrimination approach that involves separating the disperse and carrier phases based on their respective image characteristics. Our results show that the rig and the technique it implements can be employed to study transitional particulate pipe flows at dilute concentration.

Is Stack Overflow Overflowing With Questions and Tags

Programming question and answer (Q & A) websites, such as Quora, Stack Overflow, and Yahoo! Answer etc. helps us to understand the programming concepts easily and quickly in a way that has been tested and applied by many software developers. Stack Overflow is one of the most frequently used programming Q\&A website where the questions and answers posted are presently analyzed manually, which requires a huge amount of time and resource. To save the effort, we present a topic modeling based technique to analyze the words of the original texts to discover the themes that run through them. We also propose a method to automate the process of reviewing the quality of questions on Stack Overflow dataset in order to avoid ballooning the stack overflow with insignificant questions. The proposed method also recommends the appropriate tags for the new post, which averts the creation of unnecessary tags on Stack Overflow.

Is That Twitter Hashtag Worth Reading

Online social media such as Twitter, Facebook, Wikis and Linkedin have made a great impact on the way we consume information in our day to day life. Now it has become increasingly important that we come across appropriate content from the social media to avoid information explosion. In case of Twitter, popular information can be tracked using hashtags. Studying the characteristics of tweets containing hashtags becomes important for a number of tasks, such as breaking news detection, personalized message recommendation, friends recommendation, and sentiment analysis among others. In this paper, we have analyzed Twitter data based on trending hashtags, which is widely used nowadays. We have used event based hashtags to know users' thoughts on those events and to decide whether the rest of the users might find it interesting or not. We have used topic modeling, which reveals the hidden thematic structure of the documents (tweets in this case) in addition to sentiment analysis in exploring and summarizing the content of the documents. A technique to find the interestingness of event based twitter hashtag and the associated sentiment has been proposed. The proposed technique helps twitter follower to read, relevant and interesting hashtag.

Large ground state magnetic moment and magnetocaloric effect in Ni2Mn1.4In0.6

A large conventional magnetocaloric effect at the second order magnetic transition in cubic Ni2Mn1.4In0.6 Heusler alloy is reported. The isothermal magnetization at 2K shows a huge ground state magnetic moment of about 6.17 μB/f.u. The theoretical calculations show that the origin of the large magnetic moment in cubic Ni2Mn1.4In0.6 results from the strong ferromagnetic interaction between Mn- Ni and Mn-Mn sublattices. The experimental magnetic moment is in excellent agreement with the moment calculated from the theory. The large magnetic moment gives rise to considerably high adiabatic temperature and entropy changes at the magnetic transition. The present study opens up the possibility to explore cubic Heusler alloys for magnetocaloric applications.

Premartensite to martensite transition and its implications on the origin of modulation in Ni2MnGa ferromagnetic shape memory alloy

We present here results of temperature dependent high resolution synchrotron x-ray powder diffraction study of sequence of phase transitions in Ni2MnGa. Our results show that the incommensurate martensite phase results from the incommensurate premartensite phase, and not from the austenite phase assumed in the adaptive phase model. The premartensite phase transforms to the martensite phase through a first order phase transition with coexistence of the two phases in a broad temperature interval (~40K), discontinuous change in the unit cell volume as also in the modulation wave vector across the transition temperature and considerable thermal hysteresis in the characteristic transition temperatures. The temperature variation of the modulation wave vector q shows smooth analytic behaviour with no evidence for any devilish plateau corresponding to an intermediate or ground state commensurate lock-in phases. The existence of the incommensurate 7M like modulated structure down to 5K suggests that the incommensurate 7M like modulation is the ground state of Ni2MnGa and not the Bain distorted tetragonal L10 phase or any other lock-in phase with a commensurate modulation. These findings can be explained within the framework of the soft phonon model.

Residual stress induced stabilization of martensite phase and its effect on the magneto-structural transition in Mn rich Ni-Mn-In/Ga magnetic shape memory alloys

The irreversibility of the martensite transition in magnetic shape memory alloys (MSMAs) with respect to external magnetic field is one of the biggest challenges that limits their application as giant caloric materials. This transition is a magneto-structural transition that is accompanied with a steep drop in magnetization (i.e., 'delta M') around the martensite start temperature (Ms) due to the lower magnetization of the martensite phase. In this communication, we show that 'delta M' around Ms in Mn rich Ni-Mn based MSMAs gets suppressed by two orders of magnitude in crushed powders due to the stabilization of the martensite phase at temperatures well above the Ms and the austenite finish (Af) temperatures due to residual stresses. Analysis of the intensities and the FWHM of the x-ray powder diffraction patterns reveals stabilized martensite phase fractions as 97, 75 and 90% with corresponding residual microstrains as 5.4, 5.6 and 3% in crushed powders of the three different Mn rich Ni-Mn alloys, namely, Mn1.8Ni1.8In0.4, Mn1.75Ni1.25Ga and Mn1.9Ni1.1Ga, respectively. Even after annealing at 773 K, the residual stress stabilised martensite phase does not fully revert to the equilibrium cubic austenite phase as the magneto-structural transition is only partially restored with reduced value of 'delta M'. Our results have very significant bearing on application of such alloys as inverse magnetocaloric and barocaloric materials.

A high resolution synchrotron x-ray powder diffraction study of the incommensurate modulation in the martensite phase of Ni2MnGa: Evidence for nearly 7M modulation and phason broadening

The modulated structure of the martensite phase of Ni2MnGa is revisited using high resolution synchrotron x-ray powder diffraction (SXRPD) measurements, which reveals higher order satellite reflections up to the 3rd order and phason broadening of the satellite peaks. The structure refinement, using the (3+1) dimensional superspace group approach, shows that the modulated structure of Ni2MnGa can be described by orthorhombic superspace group Immm(00$γ$)s00 with lattice parameters a= 4.21861(2) Å, b= 5.54696(3) Å, and c= 4.18763(2) Å and an incommensurate modulation wave vector q= 0.43160(3)c*= (3/7+$δ$)c*, where $δ$=0.00303(3) is the degree of incommensuration of the modulated structure. Additional satellite peak broadening, which could not be accounted for in terms of the anisotropic strain broadening based on a lattice parameter distribution , has been modeled in terms of phasons using fourth rank covariant strain tensor representation for incommensurate structures. The simulation of single crystal diffraction patterns from the refined structural parameters unambiguously reveals a rational approximant structure with 7M modulation. The inhomogeneous displacement of different atomic sites on account of incommensurate modulation and the presence of phason broadening clearly rule out the adaptive phase model proposed recently by Kaufmann et al.[1] and suggests that the modulation in Ni2MnGa originates from soft-mode phonons.

A Novel Method to Calculate Click Through Rate for Sponsored Search

Sponsored search adopts generalized second price (GSP) auction mechanism which works on the concept of pay per click which is most commonly used for the allocation of slots in the searched page. Two main aspects associated with GSP are the bidding amount and the click through rate (CTR). The CTR learning algorithms currently being used works on the basic principle of (#clicks_i/ #impressions_i) under a fixed window of clicks or impressions or time. CTR are prone to fraudulent clicks, resulting in sudden increase of CTR. The current algorithms are unable to find the solutions to stop this, although with the use of machine learning algorithms it can be detected that fraudulent clicks are being generated. In our paper, we have used the concept of relative ranking which works on the basic principle of (#clicks_i /#clicks_t). In this algorithm, both the numerator and the denominator are linked. As #clicks_t is higher than previous algorithms and is linked to the #clicks_i, the small change in the clicks which occurs in the normal scenario have a very small change in the result but in case of fraudulent clicks the number of clicks increases or decreases rapidly which will add up with the normal clicks to increase the denominator, thereby decreasing the CTR.

Incommensurate modulations in stoichiometric Ni2MnGa ferromagnetic shape memory alloy: An overview

This article presents a brief overview of our recent work on the nature of long period modulation in the premartensite and martensite phases of Ni2MnGa ferromagnetic shape memory alloy using high resolution synchrotron x-ray powder diffraction patterns. The commensurate structure model using the Pnnm space group is unable to account for the peak positions of the satellite reflections that appear due to modulations correctly. LeBail and Rietveld refinements using the (3+1)-D super space group $Immm(00γ)s00$ show that the peak positions of all the reflections, including the satellites, can be explained satisfactorily using incommensurate modulations for both the premartensite and martensite phases. The incommensurate modulation vectors are found to be q= 0.33761(5)c* = (1/3+$δ$1)c* and 0.43160(3)c*= (3/7+$δ$2)c*, where $δ$1 and $δ$2 are the degrees of incommensuration for the premartensite and martensite phases, respectively. The periodicity of the closest rational approximant of the premartensite and martensite phases are confirmed to be 3M and 7M, respectively, in agreement with single crystal diffraction results.

Alert-BDI: BDI Model with Adaptive Alertness through Situational Awareness

In this paper, we address the problems faced by a group of agents that possess situational awareness, but lack a security mechanism, by the introduction of a adaptive risk management system. The Belief-Desire-Intention (BDI) architecture lacks a framework that would facilitate an adaptive risk management system that uses the situational awareness of the agents. We extend the BDI architecture with the concept of adaptive alertness. Agents can modify their level of alertness by monitoring the risks faced by them and by their peers. Alert-BDI enables the agents to detect and assess the risks faced by them in an efficient manner, thereby increasing operational efficiency and resistance against attacks.

Detection and Filtering of Collaborative Malicious Users in Reputation System using Quality Repository Approach

Online reputation system is gaining popularity as it helps a user to be sure about the quality of a product/service he wants to buy. Nonetheless online reputation system is not immune from attack. Dealing with malicious ratings in reputation systems has been recognized as an important but difficult task. This problem is challenging when the number of true user's ratings is relatively small and unfair ratings plays majority in rated values. In this paper, we have proposed a new method to find malicious users in online reputation systems using Quality Repository Approach (QRA). We mainly concentrated on anomaly detection in both rating values and the malicious users. QRA is very efficient to detect malicious user ratings and aggregate true ratings. The proposed reputation system has been evaluated through simulations and it is concluded that the QRA based system significantly reduces the impact of unfair ratings and improve trust on reputation score with lower false positive as compared to other method used for the purpose.

Two Way Concurrent Buffer System without Deadlock in Various Time Models Using Timed Automata

Two way buffer system is a system that exhibits transfer of data using two buffers concurrently. It includes processes that synchronize to exchange data with each other along with executing certain delays between these synchronizations. In existing Tiny Two Way Buffer System, both generators produce packets in half duplex manner in no time, deterministic time, and non deterministic time. Analysis of the model for above time options leads the model in deadlock. The model can be out of the deadlock if timings in the model is incorporated in alternative fashion. The generators produce packets after a delay of 10 seconds. However, generator one has an initial shift of 5 seconds after which it begins sending a packet every 10 seconds. Hence, initial delay for generator one is 15 seconds and for generator two it is 10 seconds. Due to this initial shift, both generators produce packets alternatively and is deadlock free as the packets do not meet at the same time instant. Moreover, the existing system model is not concurrent and hence takes more time for packet transfer in every iteration. In this paper we have proposed a model of buffer system using an additional dummy buffer for transfer of data packets, we thus checking the model with various time models as no time, deterministic time and non deterministic time. The results of proposed model under above time models are in deadlock. We achieve deadlock free situation by introducing appropriate delay in various buffers of the proposed system, the delay timing is nondeterministic time. The new approach speeds up the transfer of packets, as a result the transfer of data becomes concurrent, deadlock free and hence the model proposed is time efficient. Simulation results shows that the proposed two way buffer system is fully concurrent and time efficient as compared to the existing buffer system.

A New Generalized Closed Form Expression for Average Bit Error Probability Over Rayleigh Fading Channel

Except for a few simple digital modulation techniques, derivation of average bit error probability over fading channels is difficult and is an involved process. In this letter, curve fitting technique has been employed to express bit error probability over AWGN of any digital modulation scheme in terms of a simple Gaussian function. Using this Gaussian function, a generalized closed form expression for computing average probability of bit error over Rayleigh fading channels has been derived. Excellent agreement has been found between error probabilities computed with our method and the rigorously calculated error probabilities of several digital modulation schemes.

Differentiated QoS with Modified C/I Based Scheduling Algorithm

Second-generation (2G) digital cellular systems constitute the majority of cellular communication deployed today. A variety of services of 2G systems has increased significantly and this will continue to grow even further in the emerging third-generation (3G) systems. Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) is a third-generation mobile communications system which uses the Wide-Band Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) technique to support a wide variety of services, like speech, video telephony, Internet browsing, etc. These services require a wide range of Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. QoS is an important issue as the number of multimedia services increases day by day. Differentiated QoS methods allow the differentiation of users based on their priority levels and channel conditions so that the network can allocate the bandwidth for a particular request based on the QoS requirements. These requirements are controlled by Radio Resource Management (RRM) mechanisms. In this paper we have proposed two RRM algorithms which are modification to the existing scheduling algorithms. One is Prioritized C/I scheduling, which takes the priorities into consideration, and this algorithm serves the user with highest priority. Other algorithm is Modified Inverse C/I scheduling, which takes channel conditions into consideration and serves the users in degraded conditions, thereby improving QoS. The performance evaluation of two algorithms is done with EURANE extensions for NS-2. Simulation results shows the improvement in QoS for the users who are at equidistance from Base Station (BS) but requesting for different services by implementing Prioritized C/I scheduling and also for the users who are in degraded conditions by implementing Modified Inverse C/I scheduling when compared to Max C/I and Inverse C/I scheduling algorithm respectively.

Formal Verification of Safety Properties for Ownership Authentication Transfer Protocol

In ubiquitous computing devices, users tend to store some valuable information in their device. Even though the device can be borrowed by the other user temporarily, it is not safe for any user to borrow or lend the device as it may cause private data of the user to be public. To safeguard the user data and also to preserve user privacy we propose and model the technique of ownership authentication transfer. The user who is willing to sell the device has to transfer the ownership of the device under sale. Once the device is sold and the ownership has been transferred, the old owner will not be able to use that device at any cost. Either of the users will not be able to use the device if the process of ownership has not been carried out properly. This also takes care of the scenario when the device has been stolen or lost, avoiding the impersonation attack. The aim of this paper is to model basic process of proposed ownership authentication transfer protocol and check its safety properties by representing it using CSP and model checking approach. For model checking we have used a symbolic model checker tool called NuSMV. The safety properties of ownership transfer protocol has been modeled in terms of CTL specification and it is observed that the system satisfies all the protocol constraint and is safe to be deployed.

Modeling and Verification of a Multi-Agent Argumentation System using NuSMV

Autonomous intelligent agent research is a domain situated at the forefront of artificial intelligence. Interest-based negotiation (IBN) is a form of negotiation in which agents exchange information about their underlying goals, with a view to improve the likelihood and quality of a offer. In this paper we model and verify a multi-agent argumentation scenario of resource sharing mechanism to enable resource sharing in a distributed system. We use IBN in our model wherein agents express their interests to the others in the society to gain certain resources.

Modeling and Verification of Agent based Adaptive Traffic Signal using Symbolic Model Verifier

This paper addresses the issue of modeling and verification of a Multi Agent System (MAS) scenario. We have considered an agent based adaptive traffic signal system. The system monitors the smooth flow of traffic at intersection of two road segment. After describing how the adaptive traffic signal system can efficiently be used and showing its advantages over traffic signals with predetermined periods, we have shown how we can transform this scenario into Finite State Machine (FSM). Once the system is transformed into a FSM, we have verified the specifications specified in Computational Tree Logic(CTL) using NuSMV as a model checking tool. Simulation results obtained from NuSMV showed us whether the system satisfied the specifications or not. It has also showed us the state where the system specification does not hold. Using which we traced back our system to find the source, leading to the specification violation. Finally, we again verified the modified system with NuSMV for its specifications.

Modulated structure in the martensite phase of Ni1.8Pt0.2MnGa: a neutron diffraction study

7M orthorhombic modulated structure in the martensite phase of Ni1.8Pt0.2MnGa is reported by powder neutron diffraction study, which indicates that it is likely to exhibit magnetic field induced strain. The change in the unit cell volume is less than 0.5% between the austenite and martensite phases, as expected for a volume conserving martensite transformation. The magnetic structure analysis shows that the magnetic moment in the martensite phase is higher compared to Ni2MnGa, which is in good agreement with magnetization measurement.

Performance Analysis of Error Control Coding Techniques for Peak-to-Average Power Ratio Reduction of Multicarrier Signals

Increasing demands on high data rate mobile communications services will inevitably drive future broadband mobile communication systems toward achieving data transmission rates in excess of 100 Mbps. One of the promising technologies which can satisfy this demand on high data rate mobile communications services is the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) transmission technology which falls under the general category of multicarrier modulation systems. OFDM is a spectrally efficient modulation technique that can achieve high speed data transmission over multipath fading channels without the need for powerful equalization techniques. However the price paid for this high spectral efficiency and less intensive equalization is low power efficiency. OFDM signals are very sensitive to non-linear effects due to the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), which leads to the power inefficiency in the RF section of the transmitter. This paper analyzes the relation between aperiodic autocorrelation of OFDM symbols and PAPR. The paper also gives a comparative study of PAPR reduction performance of various channel coding techniques for the OFDM signals. For our study we have considered Hamming codes, cyclic codes, convolution codes, Golay and Reed-Muller codes. The results show that each of the channel coding technique has a different PAPR reduction performance. Coding technique with the highest value of PAPR reduction has been identified along with an illustration on PAPR reduction performances with respect to each code.

Privacy Preserving and Ownership Authentication in Ubiquitous Computing Devices using Secure Three Way Authentication

In todays world of technology and gadgets almost every person is having a portable device, be it a laptop or the smart phones. The user would like to have all the services at his fingertips and access them through the portable device he owns. Maybe he wants some data from the fellow user or from the service provider or maybe he wants to control his smart devices at home from wherever he is. In the present era of mobile environments, interactions between the user device and the service provider must be secure enough regardless of the type of device used to access or utilize the services. In this paper we propose a "Secure Three Way Authentication (STWA)" technique intended to preserve the user privacy and to accomplish ownership authentication in order to securely deliver the services to the user devices. This technique will also help the users or the service providers to check if the device is compromised or not with the help of the encrypted pass-phrases that are being exchanged.

Variance based Scheduling to Improve the QoS Performance at the Cell Edge

Now a days mobile phones are most often used for data communication rather than voice calls. Due to this change in user behavior, there is a need to improve the QoS received by the user. One of the ways of improving the QoS is an efficient scheduling algorithm which incorporates the needs of the users and variation in channel condition. The parameters used to measure the efficiency of the scheduling algorithms are the Jain Fairness Index and the overall system throughput. In this paper we have proposed a variance based scheduling algorithm which selects the user who has the highest variance of data transmitted in a given time frame as a parameter for scheduling. This ensures that eventually, the users transmit almost equal amounts of data regardless of channel condition. The simulation results shows that the proposed algorithm achieves high Jain Fairness Index of 0.92 with a lesser drop in the system throughput 18% as compared to Dynamically altering Proportionally Fair Algorithm's 20% using the Proportionally Fair Algorithm as reference.

Cloud Based Application Development for Accessing Restaurant Information on Mobile Device using LBS

Over the past couple of years, the extent of the services provided on the mobile devices has increased rapidly. A special class of service among them is the Location Based Service(LBS) which depends on the geographical position of the user to provide services to the end users. However, a mobile device is still resource constrained, and some applications usually demand more resources than a mobile device can a ord. To alleviate this, a mobile device should get resources from an external source. One of such sources is cloud computing platforms. We can predict that the mobile area will take on a boom with the advent of this new concept. The aim of this paper is to exchange messages between user and location service provider in mobile device accessing the cloud by minimizing cost, data storage and processing power. Our main goal is to provide dynamic location-based service and increase the information retrieve accuracy especially on the limited mobile screen by accessing cloud application. In this paper we present location based restaurant information retrieval system and we have developed our application in Android.
