Complex vortex-antivortex dynamics in the magnetic superconductor EuFe$_{2}$(As$_{0.7}$P$_{0.3}$)$_{2}$

We report on the investigation of the magnetic superconductor EuFe$_{2}$(As$_{0.7}$P$_{0.3}$)$_{2}$ based on muon-spin spectroscopy and ac magnetic susceptibility ($χ$) measurements. The dependence of the internal field at the muon site on temperature is indicative of a ferromagnetic ordering of Eu$^{2+}$ magnetic moments and only the conventional magnon scattering governs the longitudinal relaxation rate at low temperatures. At the same time, we observe a rich phenomenology for the imaginary component of the susceptibility $χ^{\prime\prime}$ by means of both standard ac susceptibility and a novel technique based on a microwave coplanar waveguide resonator. In particular, we detect activated trends for several features in $χ^{\prime\prime}$ over frequencies spanning ten orders of magnitude. We interpret our results in terms of the complex dynamics of vortices and antivortices influenced by the underlying structure of magnetic domains.

Fermi level tuning and double-dome superconductivity in the kagome metals CsV$_3$Sb$_{5-x}$Sn$_x$

The recently reported \textit{A}V$_3$Sb$_5$ (\textit{A} = K, Rb, Cs) family of kagome metals are candidates for unconventional superconductivity and chiral charge density wave (CDW) order; both potentially arise from nested saddle points in their band structures close to the Fermi energy. Here we use chemical substitution to introduce holes into CsV$_3$Sb$_{5}$ and unveil an unconventionalcoupling of the CDW and superconducting states. Specifically, we generate a phase diagram for CsV$_3$Sb$_{5-x}$Sn$_{x}$ that illustrates the impact of hole-doping the system and lifting the nearest vHs toward and above $E_F$. Superconductivity exhibits a non-monotonic evolution with the introduction of holes, resulting in two "domes" peaked at 3.6\,K and 4.1\,K and the rapid suppression of three-dimensional CDW order. The evolution of CDW and superconducting order is compared with the evolution of the electronic band structure of CsV$_3$Sb$_{5-x}$Sn$_x$, where the complete suppression of superconductivity seemingly coincides with an electron-like band comprised of Sb $p_z$ orbitals pushed above E$_F$.

PULSEE: A software for the quantum simulation of an extensive set of magnetic resonance observables

We present an open-source software for the simulation of observables in magnetic resonance experiments, including nuclear magnetic/quadrupole resonance NMR/NQR and electron spin resonance (ESR), developed to assist experimental research in the design of new strategies for the investigation of fundamental quantum properties of materials, as inspired by magnetic resonance protocols that emerged in the context of quantum information science (QIS). The package introduced here enables the simulation of both standard NMR spectroscopic observables and the time-evolution of an interacting single-spin system subject to complex pulse sequences, i.e. quantum gates. The main purpose of this software is to facilitate in the development of much needed novel NMR-based probes of emergent quantum orders, which can be elusive to standard experimental probes. The software is based on a quantum mechanical description of nuclear spin dynamics in NMR/NQR experiments and has been widely tested on available theoretical and experimental results. Moreover, the structure of the software allows for basic experiments to easily be generalized to more sophisticated ones, as it includes all the libraries required for the numerical simulation of generic spin systems. In order to make the program easily accessible to a large user base, we developed a user-friendly graphical interface, Jupyter notebooks, and fully-detailed documentation. Lastly, we portray several examples of the execution of the code that illustrate the potential of a novel NMR paradigm, inspired by QIS, for efficient investigation of emergent phases in strongly correlated materials.

Persistence of slow dynamics in Tb(OETAP)$_2$ single molecule magnets embedded in conducting polymers

The spin dynamics of Tb(OETAP)$_2$ single ion magnets was investigated by means of muon spin resonance ($μ$SR) both in the bulk material as well as when the system is embedded into PEDOT:PSS polymer conductor. The characteristic spin fluctuation time is characterized by a high temperature activated trend, with an energy barrier around 320 K, and by a low temperature tunneling regime. When the single ion magnet is embedded into the polymer the energy barrier only slightly decreases and the fluctuation time remains of the same order of magnitude even at low temperature. This finding shows that these single molecule magnets preserve their characteristics which, if combined with those of the conducting polymer, result in a hybrid material of potential interest for organic spintronics.

YBCO microwave resonators for strong collective coupling with spin ensembles

Coplanar microwave resonators made of 330 nm-thick superconducting YBCO have been realized and characterized in a wide temperature ($T$, 2-100 K) and magnetic field ($B$, 0-7 T) range. The quality factor $Q_L$ exceeds 10$^4$ below 55 K and it slightly decreases for increasing fields, remaining 90$\%$ of $Q_L(B=0)$ for $B=7$ T and $T=2$ K. These features allow the coherent coupling of resonant photons with a spin ensemble at finite temperature and magnetic field. To demonstrate this, collective strong coupling was achieved by using DPPH organic radical placed at the magnetic antinode of the fundamental mode: the in-plane magnetic field is used to tune the spin frequency gap splitting across the single-mode cavity resonance at 7.75 GHz, where clear anticrossings are observed with a splitting as large as $\sim 82$ MHz at $T=2$ K. The spin-cavity collective coupling rate is shown to scale as the square root of the number of active spins in the ensemble.

Tuning the magnetic and structural phase transitions of PrFeAsO via Fe/Ru spin dilution

Neutron diffraction and muon spin relaxation measurements are used to obtain a detailed phase diagram of Pr(Fe,Ru)AsO. The isoelectronic substitution of Ru for Fe acts effectively as spin dilution, suppressing both the structural and magnetic phase transitions. The temperature of the tetragonal-orthorhombic structural phase transition decreases gradually as a function of x. Slightly below the transition temperature coherent precessions of the muon spin are observed corresponding to static magnetism, possibly reflecting a significant magneto-elastic coupling in the FeAs layers. Short range order in both the Fe and Pr moments persists for higher levels of x. The static magnetic moments disappear at a concentration coincident with that expected for percolation of the J1-J2 square lattice model.

Effect of external pressure on the magnetic properties of LnFeAsO (Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Sm)

We investigate the effect of external pressure on magnetic order in undoped LnFeAsO (Ln = La, Ce, Pr, La) by using muon-spin relaxation measurements and ab-initio calculations. Both magnetic transition temperature $T_m$ and Fe magnetic moment decrease with external pressure. The effect is observed to be lanthanide dependent with the strongest response for Ln = La and the weakest for Ln = Sm. The trend is qualitatively in agreement with our DFT calculations. The same calculations allow us to assign a value of 0.68(2) $μ_B$ to the Fe moment, obtained from an accurate determination of the muon sites. Our data further show that the magnetic lanthanide order transitions do not follow the simple trend of Fe, possibly as a consequence of the different $f$-electron overlap.

Magnetic properties of spin diluted iron pnictides from muSR and NMR in LaFe1-xRuxAsO

The effect of isoelectronic substitutions on the microscopic properties of LaFe1-xRuxAsO, for 0< x< 0.8, has been investigated by means of muSR and 139La NMR. It was found that Ru substitution causes a progressive reduction of the Nèel temperature (T_N) and of the magnetic order parameter without leading to the onset of superconductivity. The temperature dependence of 139La nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T_1 can be suitably described within a two-band model. One band giving rise to the spin density wave ground-state, while the other one is characterized by weakly correlated electrons. Fe for Ru substitution yields to a progressive decrease of the density of states at the Fermi level close to the one derived from band structure calculations. The reduction of T_N with doping follows the predictions of the J_1-J_2 model on a square lattice, which appears to be an effective framework to describe the magnetic properties of the spin density wave ground-state.
